The Kentucky Derby decision was not a good one. It was a rough & tumble race on a wet and sloppy track, actually, a beautiful thing to watch. Only in these days of political correctness could such an overturn occur. The best horse did NOT win the Kentucky Derby - not even close!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) May 5, 2019

No, it's more difficult to control the horse on a sloppy track were the footing is treacherous. The stewards should have accounted for that and for the probability the results wouldn't have changed one iota .
I think the problem is that you are punishing everyone for a horse being a horse. The Jockey was not the one who moved the horse over, and the horse doe not understand the "rules" a horse race.
After watching the NHL playoffs and how much people beat the crap out of each other... to disqualify the winner because he "got in someone's way" seems pretty petty.
I think that's somewhat true even though the jockey is suppose to have control of the horse. But a horse is not like a race car. It has a mind of it's own and can be spooked by crowds and poor footing.
the sport has issues, the least of which is yesterday's ruling. this summer several horses will die at saratoga... all for the purposes of our entertainment. i've been around racing all my life - both thoroughbred and standardbred - and never really got past the notion that we're exploiting these horses with little consideration for their wellbeing.
Way to go sleepy joe
Biden mixes up British PM Theresa May with Margaret Thatcher, who left office in 1990
Slow Joe is a Fucking perverted hot mess.
Wrong in the facts.
"But as you know, 72,000 votes in PA WI and MI gave Trump the electoral college victory."

Roger, where is the Recession you predicted was sure to happen?
4th Quarter 2018 numbers had you jumping for Joe, "The Trump Recession is coming, The Trump Recession is coming, The Trump Recession is coming.
This was a real interesting call and one I'm sure the stewards didn't want to make. If this had been a low level claiming race it would have been a no-brainer, the horse gets disqualified for causing another horse a better placement (the 1 horse). If this was a UAE race horses are placed by how they physically finish and any fines/punishments are doled out after the race no immediate stewards judgement is needed. This can work both ways, sometimes the winner is the best horse (as the KD) sometimes he is not. In this case I don't think anyone would argue that the winner didn't change the order of finish behind him by his actions. Hence the DQ.
On the other hand in more popular sports such as football there is no doubt that rules are changed based on circumstances. A game ending hail mary pass is often met with blatant pass interference infractions but no penalties are called. They are not even reviewed. And like CHT says horses don't know the rules, have never heard the crowd roar, or run at full speed with a herd of other horses in the slop. It may have been an intentional horse move to prove he was the king, and he was. Though it got him DQ'd.
I think it was the proper call, but if I had been a steward I wouldn't have made it.
just noticed this was the presidents tweet, not CHT... but my comments still stand
CKO
I think the major problem is that 99.99% of the American public doesn't follow horse racing close enough to understand the nuances of the "rules". The issue for most Americans is ultimately going to be about fairness. The fastest horse didn't win and there didn't really seem like there was any purposeful effort by either the jockey or the horse to do anything wrong. In political terms, the stewards would not have found any real "corrupt intent" by anyone to change the outcome of the race.
It just seems to play out once again how addicted our entire country is to the concept of a "victim" status. Somebody feels that they were wronged (another horse impeded their horse's progress), and therefore the victim's feelings are going to be more important than whatever else happened.
It may actually "be" the rule and it may actually "be" the technically correct call. But that only exposes that the rule itself is flawed.
