Complainant had professional relationship with Joe Biden

Report: Ukraine Whistleblower Worked With Biden When He was Vice President
The Washington Examiner has learned from intelligence officers and former White House officials the identity of the 2020 Democratic presidential candidate who worked with the Ukraine whistleblower.
Former Vice President Joe Biden.
This news comes a few days after the publication learned that Intelligence Community Inspector General Michael Atkinson discovered the whistleblower behind the phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky worked for a 2020 Democratic candidate.

Not only that, but it would appear that this particular CIA agent was likely assigned to Biden when he was Vice President which may have actually put him on these plane trips between Ukraine and China.

Certainly it could be that this person feels that Biden is being unfairly treated based on his personal knowledge, or it could be that he wants to do whatever he can to prevent these investigations because he knows there is truth to them.

Either way the Inspector General did make the determination that there was a political bias from the complainant, so it was more than the IG just reporting a purely professional working relationship. Nobody objectively believes that this doesn't have to be explored.

The Inspector General not providing this information is a blatant attempt to hide relevant facts that most certainly are required to make an objective call on this situation. Whichever way you view this, it is certainly germane to the issues of motivation and objectivity of the complainant, and at this point the credibility of the Inspector General.

Revealed: The so-called “whistleblower” accusing Trump of misbehavior with Ukraine has ties to Joe Biden, who is himself mired in a Ukrainian corruption scandal involving his son, Hunter Biden.

Serious question: is there a criminal penalty for abuse of whistleblower laws?

Trump Loses Appeal of House Subpoena for Tax Returns
October 11, 2019 at 10:17 am EDT

A federal appeals court on Friday rejected President Trump’s bid to block a House committee subpoena for his income tax returns, CNBC reports.

Trump could seek to challenge this decision by asking the full set of judges in the 2nd Circuit to re-hear the case.

Or he could ask the U.S. Supreme Court to take his appeal.

If Trump asks the Supreme Court to take his appeal, I predict they will turn it down if the conservative judges really are strict constructionists of the Constitution.

What Happened to ‘No Collusion’?
October 11, 2019 at 10:52 am EDT

The Bulwark:
“Team Trump’s ‘no collusion’ tune has gone silent in the latest round of foreign election interference scandals. The evidence is clear from Trump’s own words that he sought to motivate Ukraine to manufacture dirt on Joe Biden and his son by opening a criminal investigation in Ukraine that—to date—has no basis in fact. The silence suggests that Team Trump knows the ‘no collusion’ cry won’t work this time.”

Trump's E.U. ambassador to testify in impeachment inquiry, defying State Dept.
Adam Edelman 1 hr ago

Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, will testify to House committees leading the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, defying the State Department's direction not to cooperate.
"Notwithstanding the State Department's current direction to not testify, Ambassador Sondland will honor the Committees' subpoena, and he looks forward to testifying on Thursday," Sondland's attorneys, Robert Luskin and Kwame Manley, said in a statement.

Sondland's closed-door interview was originally scheduled for earlier this week, but his appearance was blocked by the State Department. In response, the Democratic chairmen of the House committees issued a subpoena for documents and testimony.

Sondland, a Trump political appointee, has emerged as a central player in Trump's bid to persuade Ukraine's new government to commit publicly to investigate corruption and the president's political opponents.

FROM THE WASHINGTON POST:
At rally, Trump tells 5 big lies in under 3 minutes
by Greg Sargent Opinion writer October 11 at 9:56 AM

At his rally in Minnesota on Thursday night, President Trump raged at the media for debunking his lies about Joe Biden, and whipped his supporters into a frenzy by boasting about how many desperate refugees he has kept out of our country. Rage and hate, of course, have long been mainstays of Trump’s rallies.

But what perhaps mattered most is the fusillade of lies he uncorked about the Ukraine scandal. Trump told five big lies about it in under three minutes — and, crucially, they add up to a much larger deception that itself needs attention.

First, the big lies themselves, which came in a rant that lasted under 3 minutes:

Trump Obfuscates and Misleads to Make His Case
October 11, 2019 at 11:23 am EDT

“President Trump’s propensity to mislead, misconstrue and obfuscate is escalating as he confronts the threat of becoming just the third president in U.S. history to be impeached,” the Washington Post reports.

“For days, Trump and his allies have repeatedly charged that the whistleblower — whose complaint about Trump’s call with the president of Ukraine set off the current impeachment inquiry — made up a ‘false story,’ even though many of the claims have been shown to be accurate. The president has insisted that his top Democratic and Republican critics on Capitol Hill should be impeached for their efforts against him, despite a centuries-old precedent that prevents such an action.

“And, White House lawyers this week sent congressional leaders an eight-page letter vowing not to cooperate with the House Democrats’ impeachment inquiry that was laden with imprecise or misleading interpretations of congressional oversight powers and the chamber’s constitutional right to impeach, according to legal experts.”

This is not just being reported by the Washington Examiner, but by many sources. I would have more concern about the unidentified sources, if not for the fact that the person in question (the complainant) is an unidentified source.

At this point there is a real reason for someone to remain anonymous and there is almost "no" possibility at this point that certain people have already figured out who the complainant is.

People know. This isn't some one time event such as something the President supposedly said that can never be proven (or disproven). This person does exist and the identity will not change, and whoever this person is will eventually be made to public.

The state department has been hollowed out.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Marie L. Yovanovitch, who was recalled as the American ambassador to Ukraine, testified to impeachment investigators on Friday that a top State Department official told her that President Trump had pushed for her removal for months even though the department believed she had “done nothing wrong.”

In a closed-door deposition that could further fuel calls for Mr. Trump’s impeachment, Ms. Yovanovitch delivered a scathing indictment of his administration’s conduct of foreign policy. She warned that private influence and personal gain have usurped diplomats’ judgment, threatening to undermine the nation’s interests and drive talented professionals out of public service.

According to a copy of her opening statement obtained by The New York Times, the longtime diplomat said she was “incredulous” that she was removed as ambassador “based, as far as I can tell, on unfounded and false claims by people with clearly questionable motives.”

She spoke to investigators on Capitol Hill in defiance of the White House’s declaration that administration officials would not cooperate with the House impeachment inquiry.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Equally fictitious is the notion that I am disloyal to President
Trump. I have heard the allegation in the media that I
supposedly told the Embassy team to ignore the President’s
orders “since he was going to be impeached.” That
allegation is false. I have never said such a thing, to my
Embassy colleagues or to anyone else.
• Next, the Obama administration did not ask me to help the
Clinton campaign or harm the Trump campaign, nor would
I have taken any such steps if they had.
• I have never met Hunter Biden, nor have I had any direct or
indirect conversations with him. And although I have met
former Vice President Biden several times over the course
of our many years in government, neither he nor the previous
Administration ever, directly or indirectly, raised the issue
of either Burisma or Hunter Biden with me.
• With respect to Mayor Giuliani, I have had only minimal
contacts with him—a total of three that I recall. None related
to the events at issue. I do not know Mr. Giuliani’s motives
for attacking me. But individuals who have been named in
the press as contacts of Mr.Giuliani may well have believed
that their personal financial ambitions were stymied by our
anti-corruption policy in Ukraine.
• Finally, after being asked by the Department in early March
to extend my tour until 2020, I was then abruptly told in late
April to come back to Washington from Ukraine “on the next
plane.” You will understandably want to ask why my
posting ended so suddenly. I wanted to learn that too, and I
tried to find out. I met with the Deputy Secretary of State,

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

who informed me of the curtailment of my term.He said that
the Presidenthad lost confidence inme andno longer wished
me to serve as his ambassador. He added that there hadbeen
a concerted campaign against me, and that the Department
had been under pressure from the President to remove me
since the Summer of 2018. He also said that I had done
nothing wrong and that this was not like other situations
where he had recalled ambassadors for cause. I departed
Ukraine for good this past May.
• Although I understand that I served at the pleasure of the
President, I was nevertheless incredulous that the U.S.
government chose to remove an Ambassador based, as best
as I can tell, on unfounded and false claims by people with
clearly questionable motives. To make matters worse, all of
this occurred during an especially challenging time in
bilateral relations with a newly elected Ukrainian president.
This was precisely the time when continuity in the Embassy
in Ukraine was most needed.
*******
Before I close, I must share the deep disappointment and
dismay I have felt as these events have unfolded. I have served
this nation honorably for more than 30 years. I have proudly
promoted and served American interests as the representative of
the American people and six different presidents over the last
three decades. Throughout that time,I—likemy colleagues at the
State Department—have always believed that we enjoyed a
sacred trust with our government.
Statement of MarieL.Yovanovitch— Page 8

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

We make a difference every day on issues that matter to the
American people—whether it is war and peace, trade and
investment, or simply helping with a lost passport. We repeatedly
uproot our lives, and we frequently put ourselves in harm’s way
to serve this nation. And we do that willingly, because we believe
inAmerica and its special role inthe world. We also believe that,
inreturn, our government will have our backs and protect us if we
come under attack from foreign interests.
That basic understanding no longer holds true. Today, we see
the State Department attacked and hollowed out from within.
State Department leadership, with Congress, needs to take action
now to defend this great institution, and its thousands of loyal and
effective employees. We need to rebuild diplomacy as the first
resort to advance America’s interests and the front line of
America’s defense. I fear that not doing so will harm our nation’s
interest, perhaps irreparably.
That harm will come not just through the inevitable and
continuing resignation and loss of many of this nation’s most
loyal and talented public servants. It also will come when those
diplomats who soldier on and do their best to represent our nation
face partners abroad who question whether the ambassador truly
speaks for the President and can be counted upon as a reliable
partner. The harm will come when private interests circumvent
professional diplomats for their own gain, not the public good.
The harm will come when bad actors incountries beyond Ukraine
see how easy it is to use fiction and innuendo to manipulate our

Trump’s Minneapolis rally was a window into how ugly his 2020 campaign will be
Trump attacked Somali refugees, including Ilhan Omar, in one of the country’s Somali population centers.

By Aaron Rupar on October 11, 2019 11:00 am

Trump in Minneapolis on Thursday. Photo by Stephen Maturen/Getty Images
President Donald Trump’s rally on Thursday night in Minneapolis served as a window of sorts into the strategy he hopes will win him a second term in office. The picture that emerged was not a pretty one.

It wasn’t surprising that Trump attacked one of his most regular targets of abuse, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) while rallying in the heart of her district in downtown Minneapolis. But what was jarring was not only how extreme his attacks were, but also the fact that he went out of his way to demonize the Somali community more broadly in a city that has one of the country’s largest Somali populations.

Citing articles from a fringe right-wing Minnesota-based blog, Trump called Omar “a disgrace to our country” and pushed unfounded conspiracy theories about her marital history. He also attacked the community of Somali refugees in Minneapolis of which Omar is a part.

“For many years, leaders in Washington brought large numbers of refugees to your state from Somalia without considering the impact on schools and communities and taxpayers,” Trump said, as his mostly white crowd broke out in boos — in effect jeering their neighbors.

Trump’s attacks on Omar and Somalis illustrated how, with an impeachment inquiry underway in the House and the legal net tightening around his associates, the president is doubling down on the sort of barely varnished bigotry that got him there in the first place. But Omar wasn’t the only Democrat who received the Hillary Clinton treatment.

“Maybe ‘lock her up’ goes to ‘lock him up’”
The Bidens served as another major target of Trump’s abuse on Thursday night in Minneapolis. The event began with Eric Trump warming up the crowd by bringing up Hunter Biden and musing that “maybe ‘lock her up’ goes to ‘lock him up’” in remarks that prompted the audience to break out in rabid “lock them up!” chants.

Those chants were especially disquieting coming as they did amid the backdrop of an abuse of power scandal involving the Trump administration’s efforts to leverage diplomacy into making foreign governments investigate the president’s political rivals — a scandal that has prompted impeachment hearings.

Trump later brought up Joe Biden and said he “was only a good vice president because he understood how to kiss Barack Obama’s ass.” It was a particularly juvenile attack but also possibly a revealing one, hinting at what Trump prioritizes in members of his own administration.

Trump followed that up with a bizarre comedy routine of sorts in which he mocked Hunter Biden’s intelligence.

That wasn’t the only time Trump waded into dark comedy. At another point, he did a mean-spirited dramatic reading of texts sent to each other by Lisa Page and Peter Strzok, two anti-Trump FBI agents who have been the subject of right-wing conspiracy theories about the origins of the Russia investigation. He smeared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as “either really stupid or she’s really lost it.”

Of course, it’s not exactly breaking news at this point that Trump’s brand of politics is all about dividing and conquering, not bringing people together. But if you expected after nearly three years in office that he would campaign for reelection based on his actual record, Thursday’s rally indicated you will be disappointed. As was the case in 2016, Trump’s 2020 campaign is shaping to be all about demonizing the opposition, race-baiting, and warning of dire consequences if he loses.

“Democrats are on a crusade to destroy our democracy,” Trump said at one point on Thursday. “That is what is happening. We will never let it happen. We will defeat them.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Trump was especially incoherent
Trump’s rally in Minneapolis was also remarkable for just how incoherent it was. The president, who has spent the past couple weeks pretending to be deeply concerned about corruption abroad, at one point made a full-throated defense of his own corruption at home by dismissing the conflicts of interest that result from foreign governments spending money at hotels he still owns and profits from.

“If somebody stays, from let’s say a Middle East country, in one of my hotels, and we charge him $392.53 for staying, and I’ve never heard of the guy and I don’t want to hear about him, they say, ‘Trump is getting rich from our nation,’” Trump said. “If somebody rents a room someplace and they pay me two months in rent or hotel fees — I never heard of the people, I never know who they are — they say, ‘emoluments!’ Nobody ever heard of the word ‘emoluments’ before. ‘Emoluments!’ It’s the craziest thing I’ve ever seen.”

The televangelist Pat Robertson stood by Donald Trump in 2016 during the storm over the “Access Hollywood” tape of the Republican candidate boasting about assaulting women, dismissing the remarks as “macho talk.” As recently as last month, he defended Trump’s attempt to get Ukraine to discredit Joe Biden, calling the idea of impeachment “absurd.” But this week, finally, Trump did something that “absolutely appalled” Robertson, leading him to warn that the president was in danger of losing “the mandate of Heaven”: He moved a small contingent of American troops from the Syrian-Turkish border, signaling to Turkey that it could begin an assault on territory held by Kurdish guerrillas.

And within days the assault began, with Turkish air and ground forces attacking towns along the border Thursday, tens of thousands of civilians fleeing and a half-million at risk of being caught in the fighting.

Bassam Ishak, president of the Syriac National Council of Syria, an organization that advocates for the rights of Syriac Christians and other Syrian minorities, told Yahoo News he has been receiving photos and videos of the damage caused by Turkish airstrikes in the region once protected by U.S. forces.

John Hayward (Doc Zero) has a thoughtful message for george will, david french, bill kristol, et. al. -

I wonder if any of the super-duper-principled True Conservatives are going to criticize the totalitarian Democrats for their LGBT town hall, which was filled with vows to shred the Constitution and use raw State power to socially engineer the American people.

We hear a lot of nasty cracks from that crowd about religious conservative voters selling their souls to support Trump. Let them explain how conservative purity requires handing the country over to the left-wingers who just spent all night vowing to destroy religious freedom.

This was never difficult to understand, and it was never hypocrisy from evangelicals. The handwriting was on the wall during the Obama administration. They knew perfectly well what a President Hillary would unleash upon them.

It's not just a religious freedom issue, either. Criticize Trump however you like, but he isn't aggressively trying to use the power of the State to forcibly remake the electorate. His most aggressive uses of executive power have been efforts to PREVENT others from doing so.

You want to talk about bedrock conservative principles? Intrinsic to the very notion of conservatism is resisting the use of coercive force to make people abandon their beliefs and live according to the whims of those who have power over them.

This is the core reason for "conserving" anything. Conservatism is not thoughtless, stubborn resistance to new ideas. It is determined resistance against the use of force to make people kneel to ideas they disagree with. It is respect for the sovereign individual.

Conservatism is about understanding why long-cherished ideals are held and respecting those who embrace them; knowing why the fence is there before you tear it down. Change should come through PERSUASION, not compulsion, and the answer might be "no."

If you're not ready to do whatever it takes to protect the Bill of Rights, the 1st and 2nd Amendments - and that VERY CLEARLY requires defeating the Democrat candidate in 2020 by all means necessary - then in what sense are you an American "conservative?"

If you're willing to put the totalitarian social engineers on the Democrat stage last night in power, then at BEST you're a progressive with a few qualms about their uglier methods and most extreme goals. You've conceded defeat to them and just want to negotiate a few details.

Everyone is disgusted with the NBA kowtowing to Communist China right now. Well, there isn't much difference in principle between Beijing and the Democrats on the topic of political supremacy over religion and individual conscience. The ChiComs are more brutal and efficient.

If you can't resist the spread of that toxic ideology into American politics with every fiber of your being, with every word you write, then you're not much of a conservative. This IS the hill you should be ready to die on. It's really the only hill there is. All else is valleys.

All that snark about "but muh judges" reflects the same basic misunderstanding of the situation. Yes, it matters VERY MUCH to the future, indeed the very survival, of conservatism that Donald Trump has been appointing and nominating all those judges, not Hillary Clinton.

It matters VERY MUCH that the ugly totalitarians on that Democrat stage do not get to appoint judges for the next 4 years, or use executive power to punish their ideological enemies, or nullify laws inconvenient to their agenda, or use migration to remodel the electorate.

Our elections are binary choices. Wishing it were not so and fantasizing about third-party ideological crusades does not change that reality. Your choice in 2020 will be between totalitarianism and whoever the GOP candidate is. The Dems are making that painfully clear.

If you can find a better champion against totalitarianism in the GOP primary and persuade voters to support them, great. That's what primaries are for. Make your case with all due passion and all necessary honor. Realistically, all but impossible to beat incumbent president.

But once the candidates are chosen, your choices are either using all of your conservative intellect and energy to defeat the Democrat, or endorsing the use of raw government force to inflict mortal wounds on conservatism. Defense doesn't get to sit out red-zone plays.

If any of these Democrats gets into the White House, conservatism is going to become a stuffed and mounted animal on the wall of a drawing room where academics can while away their days discussing What Might Have Been if things had gone better after Reagan left office.

Conservatism is going to become a very small banner under which a few influential writers and politicians can gather to demand payoffs for their cooperation from the permanent left-wing masters of the total State. It will have no relevance to the lives of average working people.

I'm a lifelong reader of conservative publications, a fan of some people that will not like what I've written here. And I tell you: if you aren't willing to fight to conserve the most basic of American rights, I'm not that interested in hearing what you DO want to conserve. /end

By Friday, it became official that Giuliani was part of a criminal investigation, ABC reports.

Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman had lunch with Giuliani at the Trump hotel in Washington, D.C. before they fled to Dulles airport with one-way tickets out of the country. Giuliani was also slated to follow with his own international flights, but the federal investigators stopped them all.

President Donald Trump’s team played Prince’s “Purple Rain” during a rally in Minneapolis, Minnesota on Thursday, violating an agreement made by Trump’s campaign and the Prince Estate in 2018. The Prince Estate shared the written agreement on Twitter. The letter from the campaign’s legal representatives said it would not use any Prince songs in connection with Trump campaign events, per the estate’s request that was made after Trump used the song during pre-Election Day rallies.

“President Trump played Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ tonight at a campaign event in Minneapolis despite confirming a year ago that the campaign would not use Prince’s music,” the Prince Estate wrote on Twitter. “The Prince Estate will never give permission to President Trump to use Prince’s songs.”
