The polling on impeachment.

Fox News pollster Braun Research misrepresented impeachment poll: analysis
Princeton, New Jersey, pollster Braun Research, which conducted the survey, noted 48% of its respondents were Democrats. But the actual breakdown of party-affiliation is 31% Democrat, 29% Republican and 38% independent, according to Gallup.
A poll weighted for party affiliation would have concluded that 44.9% favored impeachment and 44.4% opposed it, a Post analysis has concluded.

So according to Gallup (in real time), the party affiliation is 31% Democrat, 29% Republican and 38% Independent. If we look at the party affiliation breakdown from exist polling for every election between 2004 and 2018, the average has been approximately 37.1% Democrat, 34.1% Republican, and 28.4% Independent.

Only 31% of Americans are telling Gallup today that they are Democrat, the highest percentage of Democrats to have voted in a recent election is 39% (during the 2008 Obama election), and the past two elections have put them at 36% and 37%. So if you see any poll that allows for a sample that has more than 40% Democrats in it, then that poll is going to be oversampling Democrats.

When you see a poll that suggests nearly half of their sample is Democrats, then it cannot possibly be taken seriously. I don't care if it is Zogby, FOX, Rasmussen, or your mother taking the poll, the reality is that it means "nothing" other than the pollster either is very lazy, took a bad sample, or is looking to push a narrative.

To be clear, this tends to happen during serious news cycles. Those who are excited by recent news (in this case excited about the President facing impeachment) will be eager to talk to a pollster. Those who are not excited about this, are simply less likely to want to talk to a pollster. That is why pollster generally "weigh" their samples to come up with more realistic demographics.

But even this isn't going to totally solve the issues. You will probably see more left leaning independents respond than right leaning independents. You may see more never-Trump Republicans jumping in with their opinions, than Trump Republicans. So even adjusting for the demographics may not cover the entire problem.
________

Let's also dive into some of the other problems with some of these impeachment polls. Every poll taken that I have looked into are mixing in the questions regarding impeachment with a bunch of specific questions designed to make people question the President. Does he lie, was this or that right or wrong, etc, etc. Most of it relating to the non-stop negative coverage retarding Ukraine (which almost nobody I talk to actually understands other than they believe that the President did something wrong but are not exactly sure why).

But when you ask a dozen negative questions designed to solicit possible negative responses about Trump, and then end with questions about impeachment and who they plan to vote for, it would certainly seem to push that person "towards" the idea that the President should be impeached or not reelected. It's what is called a "push poll" and is generally used to create a narrative as much as it is used to report on something.

So as a little experiment - let's take the most recent FOX News poll (which also shows Biden and Warren leading by ten points) and replace their own demographics with the average demographics over the past eight elections, and guess what? The lead is actually approximately four percent, and that four percent is right smack dab in the middle of probably Trump's worst news cycle since his Presidency. If you split the difference between the real time Gallup affiliation and the previous averages, the Warren lead slips down into a margin of error style race.

So when it comes to getting excited about these polls (one way or the other) I would offer that you first understand that this comes with a giant load of caveat emptor.

This is why I'm not paying much attention to the polling this early out since most media polling is to fit a predetermined narrative.

However this sucks even for media polling and should be a deep embarrassment to Fox News. The firm should be fired.

i treat 95% of the polling out there as push polling, not at all used to interpret sentiment but to drive it in a particular direction.

to me it became most noticeable the night of the 2004 election when all of the early exit polls were in kerry's favor, and i mean ALL of them. it was obvious that polling was designed with a singular purpose - to drive down republican turnout, giving the illusion, or should i say DElusion of "KERRY BY A LANDSLIDE!!!11!"

"We have discovered in short order not only the contents of that call, but also the preparatory work that went into the call. The effort to condition something the Ukrainian president deeply sought, and that was a meeting with the president to establish that this new president of Ukraine had a powerful patron in the president of the United States that was of vital importance to Ukraine, was being conditioned on digging up dirt on the Bidens," Schiff told to Margaret Brennan.

"So, you see that as the quid quo pro, not just the military aid," she replied.

"Well, first of all, there doesn't need to be a quid pro quo," Schiff told her. "But it is clear already, I think, from the text messages that this meeting that the Ukrainian president sought was being conditioned on their willingness to intervene in the U.S. election to help the president."

For weeks now, we've been told that the transcript was evidence of a quid pro quo, and now Adam Schiff is saying "there doesn't need to be a quid pro quo." Does anyone see this a huge concession on Schiff's part?

So, I guess Schiff has flip-flopped on whether there was a quid pro quo after all, and in true Democrat fashion is moving the goalposts to justify his party's witchhunt. Everything that's been happening with this impeachment inquiry is because of that phone call, how can anyone justify that this impeachment inquiry proceed when Schiff has conceded that the phone call is exculpatory?

Yep, and Rat only quotes a portion of Schiff's statement that does not really represent what he said. The GOP’s fiscal hawks have finally flown the coop.
This week, the Congressional Budget Office released its latest estimate for the federal budget deficit for the fiscal year that just ended. Lo and behold, the deficit likely reached nearly $1 trillion — $984 billion, to be precise. Final numbers are due from the Treasury Department any day now.
To put this in context: This was the largest annual deficit in both raw dollar terms and as a share of the economy since 2012, when we were still recovering from the aftermath of the financial crisis and ensuing Great Recession. It was also a huge jump from where it was when President Trump first took office; the deficit is up by 26 percent since fiscal 2018 and a whopping 48 percent since 2017.
This is, needless to say, not what either Trump or others in his party told us to expect under Republican leadership. For years, the GOP cast itself as the party of fiscal responsibility, fighting tooth and nail against virtually any Obama-era expense even when the struggling economy desperately needed more fiscal stimulus.

When he ran for president in 2016, Trump promised to not only shrink deficits but to actually eliminate the entire federal debt — that is, to pay down all the accumulated deficits we’ve had over the years, which now add up to about $23 trillion.
The King of Debt’s promise to wipe out government debt was always nonsense. But reducing deficits? That seemed at least theoretically possible.
We’re more than a decade into an economic expansion, after all. For most of the postwar period, when unemployment was low, budget deficits fell or even flipped into surpluses.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) revealed in a new interview that House Democrats have discussed jailing allies of the president who do not comply with congressional subpoenas, an escalation of the House's efforts to force White House compliance with an impeachment inquiry.

Tlaib told Deadline Detroit that such an action, known as inherent contempt, would be "uncharted territory" for Congress but added that "serious conversations" about taking the step have occurred within the Democratic caucus.

"There have been actual serious conversations about what the logistics would look like ... if we did have to force someone through a court order to come before the Congressional committee," she said. "This is pretty uncharted territory for many of us and even for Congress.”

“In the same area on Sunday, hundreds of Islamic State sympathizers escaped from a low-security detention camp in the region, taking advantage of the chaos caused by the Turkish ground invasion and the accompanying strikes.

“Both developments underscored the pandemonium unleashed by President Trump’s sudden decision to order American troops to evacuate part of the Syrian region bordering Turkey.”

AND NOW, LADIES AND GENTLEMEN (AHEM) COMPARE CH'S THREAD ARTICLE WITH THE FOLLOWING:

Polls Show Support for Impeachment but Not Removal, Yet

NBC News Oct 13th 2019
WASHINGTON - The Ukraine/impeachment saga has been topping the news for weeks now, but a raft of new polls released this week offer the first real read on where the public stands on the complicated story. The common headline: Most people want an investigation and a formal inquiry, but Republicans are not on board – at least not yet.

Inside the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal, however, there are a few numbers that reveal how important the next few weeks of news could be in the impeachment story and suggest that the White House has a few areas of deep concern.

First, the overall findings in the latest survey. A majority of Americans, 55 percent, favor an impeachment inquiry for President Trump and 39 percent believe there isn’t enough evidence to impeach.

But that 55 percent can be broken into two groups on the question. There is a group of 24 percent who believe there is enough evidence to remove the president from office right now. And there is another 31 percent who believe the correct course of action is holding an inquiry “to determine if there is enough evidence to see if he should remain or be removed from office.”

So the largest part of that majority is really backing the start of a process. Remember, impeachment does not mean removal from office, it means starting the formal course of action (in the House) that can lead to a president being removed (by a vote in the Senate).

Looking at those numbers through a partisan frame shows some fault lines and, perhaps, unexpected areas of agreement.

For instance, the poll shows that a plurality of Democrats, 45 percent, and independent voters, 40 percent, believe Congress should hold the impeachment inquiry and see where it leads. The number for outright removal now is higher among Democrats, 42 percent, than it is among independents, 20 percent. Still, it’s worth noting that both groups favor starting the inquiry process over simple removal.

Republicans are the outlier here, as you might expect, with 76 percent saying that currently there is not enough evidence to even start a formal impeachment inquiry.

That’s a high number, of course, and probably a comfort to the White House. However, it should be noted that 76 percent is eight points lower than Trump’s job approval number among Republicans, 84 percent.

In other words, there are some small signs of discomfort with what the president did on the Ukraine story, even among his biggest boosters. And even small signs of discomfort could be troubling for a president who won the Electoral College by a narrow 78,000 margin in three states while losing the popular vote by about 2.8 million ballots.

There are other points of concern in the NBC/WSJ poll for Team Trump.

Among people who get their news from conservative news outlets – people who are more likely to hear coverage sympathetic to the president – 41 percent believe an impeachment inquiry is warranted. That’s more than twice the 20 percent of Republicans overall who believe that.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

And when you dig deeper into the number for Republicans, their attitudes on impeachment are less cut-and-dried.

The NBC/WSJ survey asks Republican respondents whether they consider themselves to be more supporters of President Trump or more supporters of the Republican Party. Those two groups make up 48 percent and 39 percent of the GOP respectively – and they have very different feelings about impeachment.

Among “Trump Republicans,” there is an incredibly powerful desire to end the entire impeachment story now – 91 percent say “there is not enough evidence to hold an impeachment inquiry of Trump and he should finish his term as president.”

But among “party Republicans” the end impeachment now figure is 33 points lower, only 58 percent say the there is not enough evidence to hold an impeachment inquiry. And in that “party Republican” segment of the GOP, 26 percent say the inquiry should go forward and 13 percent say there is enough evidence to remove the president right now.

Those “party Republicans” may be the critical part of the GOP to watch going forward. A large portion of them is already open to impeaching the president. Further erosion among them could signal a fundamental challenge to Trump’s presidency.

With all these numbers, keep in mind that we are still likely quite early in the impeachment game. All these data points are, as pollsters always like to say, snapshots of a moment in time – in particular, they are the views from October 4th through 6th, when this survey was taken. That was several twists and turns ago in the story.

It’s not yet clear whether these numbers have captured public opinions and attitudes as they are in the process of moving, or whether the data are simply a new baseline on this issue that will stay locked in place.

To better understand that, the real test is what these figures look like a few weeks or a month from now.

Kurds Cut Deal with Syrian Government

October 13, 2019 at 8:41 pm EDT

“America’s former Kurdish allies in Syria on Sunday announced a new deal with the government in Damascus — a sworn enemy of Washington that is backed by Russia — after President Trump ordered the withdrawal of American forces from northern Syria,” the New York Times reports.

“For five years, United States policy relied on collaborating with a Kurdish-led militia both to fight the Islamic State and to limit the influence of Iran and Russia…”

“On Sunday, after Mr. Trump abruptly abandoned that approach, American leverage appeared all but gone. That threatened to give President Bashar al-Assad and his Iranian and Russian backers a free hand. It also jeopardized hard-won gains against the Islamic State — and potentially opened the door for its return.”

“Trump would tell ErdoÄŸan that if he wanted to invade Syria he would have to own whatever mess ensued… ErdoÄŸan would have to take care of ISIS and manage international condemnation, trouble from Capitol Hill, and the quagmire with the Kurds. And when Trump put it in such stark terms to ErdoÄŸan, the Turkish leader would demur. Until last Sunday, that is, when he told Trump he was moving ahead with the invasion of northern Syria.

“This time, ErdoÄŸan called Trump’s bluff, having waited for international forces to wipe out the ISIS caliphate.”

The CIA Mole has to be known.
Simple as that. "Democrat Grand Jury" , what the fuck is that?
"SCHIFF: –the- the Republicans would like nothing better because they view their role as defending the president being the president’s lawyers. If witnesses could tailor their testimony to other witnesses. They would love for one witness to be able to hear what another witness says so that they can know what they can give away and what they can’t give away. There’s a reason why investigations and grand jury proceedings for example, and I think this is analogous to a grand jury proceeding, are done out of the public view initially. Now we may very well call some of the same witnesses or all the same witnesses in public hearings as well. But we want to make sure that we meet the needs of the investigation and not give the president or his legal minions the opportunity to tailor their testimony and in some cases fabricate testimony to suit their interests.

BRENNAN: You’ve been- well, the whistleblower has made these complaints and hand them- handed them over. Why push for this whistleblower to come before Congress? Because a- Republicans are calling for it and some Democrats would like to ask questions too but this information’s already out there. Can’t the committee do its own investigation without risking the identity of this person being–

SCHIFF: We can–

BRENNAN: –public?

SCHIFF: You know and I think initially, before the president started threatening the whistleblower, threatening others calling them traitors and spies and suggesting that you know we used to give the death penalty to traitors and spies and maybe we should think about that again. Yes we were interested in having the whistleblower come forward. Our primary–

BRENNAN: Not anymore?

SCHIFF: Well our primary interest right now is making sure that that person is protected. Indeed, now there’s more than one whistleblower, that they are protected. And given that we already have the call record, we don’t need the whistleblower who wasn’t on the call to tell us what took place during the call. We have the best evidence of that. We do want to make sure that we identify other evidence that is pertinent to the withholding of the military support, the effort to cover this up by hiding this in a classified computer system. We want to make sure that we uncover the full details about the conditionality of either the military aid or that meeting with Ukraine’s president. It may not be necessary to take steps that might reveal the whistleblower’s identity to do that. And we’re going to make sure we protect that whistleblower."

Peter Wehner said there’s a reason why many of President Donald Trump’s most loyal supporters won’t turn on him.

“It is almost like a hermetically sealed world,” he said on CNN’s “Reliable Sources.” “Facts are like BBs, they’re just bouncing off of a brick wall. They just don’t penetrate.”

Wehner, who served in the administrations of presidents Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush and as a senior aide in the White House of President George W. Bush, said it comes down to a concept called the psychology of accommodation.

“People decided early on for a variety of reasons to accommodate themselves to Donald Trump, some of them thinking that things would get better, that he would grow in office, that he would be surrounded by good people,” he said.

Instead, Trump has gotten worse. But because of their early accommodation of the president, these voters are essentially stuck with him.

“Now it’s not just a defense of Trump. It’s a defense of their defense of Trump,” Wehner said. “To indict him is to indict themselves, and to indict their own judgment, and that’s hard for any human being.”

The result: “They will defend him regardless of what happens, come hell or high water.”

In 2016, Trump bragged that his supporters were so loyal that not even murder could shake them.

https://www.yahoo.com/finance/news/ap-fact-check-trumps-premature-050459880.html

WASHINGTON (AP) — It was a week of caustic rhetoric by President Donald Trump over Syria and the impeachment inquiry, and truth often took a beating.

Seeking to justify pulling U.S. troops out of Syria, Trump spread false information about the total defeat of the Islamic State and misrepresented the scope of the original U.S. mission, saying it was only supposed to last "30 days."

He stepped up political attacks on his Democratic investigators, contradicting himself in the process.

First he accused a Democratic lawmaker of concocting a dramatic account of a Trump phone call with Ukraine's president without having seen a rough White House transcript of what was actually said in the conversation. Then he accused the same lawmaker of concocting his account only after reviewing the rough transcript and deciding it wasn't interesting enough.

On the economy, the president declared a premature victory for farmers over the weekend, incorrectly suggesting that China's pledge to buy up to $50 billion in U.S. farm products was a signed, done deal.

Here's a review, also covering statements about Hunter Biden, judges and the auto industry:

TRADE

TRUMP: "The deal I just made with China is, by far, the greatest and biggest deal ever made for our Great Patriot Farmers in the history of our Country." — tweet Saturday.

TRUMP: "Start thinking about getting bigger tractors!" — tweet Saturday.

THE FACTS: Not so fast. No final trade agreement has been reached.

It's true that U.S. and China declared a temporary truce in their 15-month trade war. As part of a cease-fire deal announced Friday, China agreed to buy up to $50 billion in U.S. farm products, while the Trump administration said it would suspend a tariff increase on $250 billion worth of Chinese imports that was set to take effect Tuesday.

However, negotiators reached their tentative agreement only in principle. No documents have been signed. A final deal could still fall through, though Trump told reporters Friday he didn't think that would happen.

As President Trump approaches his 1,000th day in office Wednesday, he has significantly stepped up his pace of spouting exaggerated numbers, unwarranted boasts and outright falsehoods.
As of Oct. 9, his 993rd day in office, he had made 13,435 false or misleading claims, according to the Fact Checker’s database that analyzes, categorizes and tracks every suspect statement he has uttered. That’s an average of almost 22 claims a day since our last update 65 days ago.
One big reason for the uptick: The uproar over Trump’s phone call with Ukraine’s president on July 25 — in which he urged an investigation of former vice president Joe Biden, a potential 2020 election rival — and the ensuing House impeachment inquiry. We’ve added a new category of claims, Ukraine probe, and in just a few weeks it has topped 250 entries.
AD

In fact, Trump earned his fastest Bottomless Pinocchio ever with his repeated false statement that the whistleblower compliant about the call was inaccurate. The report accurately captured the content of Trump’s call and many other details have been confirmed, yet Trump has repeated this Four-Pinocchio claim 29 times. (It takes 20 repeats of a Three or Four-Pinocchio claim to merit a Bottomless Pinocchio, and there are now 27 entries.)
Another false claim — that Biden forced the resignation of a Ukrainian prosecutor because he was investigating his son Hunter — just barely missed the cutoff for inclusion. (Trump has said it 18 times.) We presume the falsehood will earn a spot on the Bottomless Pinocchio page in the next update.

WHO WILL GO DOWN IN HISTORY AS THE LYINGEST AMERICAN PRESIDENT?

THAT'S EASY.

Trump’s Pace of Lies Keeps Growing
October 14, 2019 at 8:10 am EDT

“As President Trump approaches his 1,000th day in office Wednesday, he has significantly stepped up his pace of spouting exaggerated numbers, unwarranted boasts and outright falsehoods,” the Washington Post reports.

“As of Oct. 9, his 993rd day in office, he had made 13,435 false or misleading claims… That’s an average of almost 22 claims a day since our last update 65 days ago.”

First Victim
October 14, 2019 at 6:48 am EDT

Washington Post: “Victimization has long been central to Trump’s political identity, rooting him in the grievance politics of the right and inspiring in his millions of followers a duty to protect the president from any perceived threat. But Trump’s feelings of oppression and persecution have been especially pronounced during the impeachment crisis.

“As Trump tells it, he is the victim of a corrupt, ‘deep state’ whistleblower who, along with other perceived enemies, has orchestrated a broad conspiracy to claim malfeasance in his July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky — which, in the president’s estimation, was ‘perfect’ and ‘totally appropriate.'”

POOR, POOR MISTREATED, VICTIMIZED PRESIDENT. 😊HIS CALL WITH ZELENSKY WAS SO PERFECT AND TOTALLY APPROPRIATE THAT TRUMP'S OWN MINIONS IMMEDIATELY STARTED TRYING TO COVER IT UP, KEEP IT HIDDEN.

Impeachment Will Hurt Trump More Than Democrats
October 13, 2019 at 10:35 pm EDT

David Leonhardt:
“Trump deserves to be impeached on the merits, and, if he is, it will probably further sully him in the eyes of swing voters, much as it did to Clinton. The big question now is how well will Democrats handle the process. They should move quickly to hold more public hearings, rather than the private sessions they held last week, so Americans can better understand how Trump has perverted American foreign policy and national security for his own benefit.

“Ultimately, impeachment may well hurt some Democrats from Trump-friendly districts, much as it hurt several Republicans 20 years ago. But it is also very likely to damage Trump — as his own sullen reaction suggests that he realizes. That’s a trade-off worth making.”

EXACTLY. DRAG THIS THING RIGHT OUT INTO THE PUBLIC AS TRUMP'S DEFENDERS ARE ASKING FOR IT TO BE.

Wonder why this investigation of Ivanka seems to have died?????? Yep....the trump crime family strikes again!!!!

U.S. counterintelligence officials are looking into Ivanka Trump's business deal in Vancouver as her security clearance continues to hang in the balance, according to a report.
Ivanka played a key role in hammering out the deal for the Trump International Hotel and Tower in Vancouver, which opened just one month after her father entered the White House.

It remains unclear exactly why Ivanka's deal with a Malaysian real estate developer on behalf of Trump Organization has piqued the interest of U.S. counterintelligence, but two sources told CNN the FBI has been looking into both the negotiations and financing of the building.

When is a deal not a deal....when trump starts bragging he has one.....as I thought and now confirmed......

Stock futures fell Monday after a report that Beijing is seeking more talks before signing a preliminary trade deal trounced earlier optimism over slackening tensions between the U.S. and China.

Here were the main moves during the pre-market session, as of 8:00 a.m. ET:

S&P 500 futures (ES=F): -0.24%, or 7 points
Dow futures (YM=F): -0.25%, or 66 points
Nasdaq futures (NQ=F): -0.29%, or 22.5 points
Crude oil (CL=F): -1.99% to $53.61 per barrel
Gold (GC=F): +0.79% to $1,500.40 per ounce
China is looking to meet to work out more details of the “phase one” trade deal President Donald Trump presented late last week, Bloomberg reported Monday, citing unnamed people familiar with the matter. China reportedly wants the Trump administration to do away with a planned tariff hike in December, on top of its existing plan to scrap a tariff increase previously scheduled to take place Tuesday.

Later Monday, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin told CNBC that he expects the tariffs will take effect in December if no deal materializes between the two countries.

“But I expect we’ll have a deal,” Mnuchin said on CNBC.

But the lying will continue and the goat fucker will keep swallowing!!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Trump now wants to run Fox News.....anyone think he is trying to take over the media so he alone can control the news???? Just like a dictator.....and the slurping will continue unabated......so sad you are all soooooo fucking dumb!!!!!!

Now that President Donald Trump doesn’t have Shepard Smith to kick around at Fox News any longer, he’s attacking “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace.Wallace is one of the few remaining news hosts at Fox who routinely presents a balanced perspective, and who often challenges Trump’s policies and statements. Smith abruptly resigned from Fox on Friday after being repeatedly criticized by Trump.

Following Wallace’s program Sunday, Trump fired off a tweet demanding that “somebody please explain to Chris Wallace” that Trump’s July phone call with Ukraine’s president “was a congenial & good one.” In the call, now the focus of an impeachment inquiry, Trump pressed the Ukrainian leader to investigate his political rival Joe Biden and his son — while withholding military aid from the nation.

Trump also slammed Chris Wallace as someone who “will never be his father,” the late “60 Minutes” stalwart Mike Wallace, whom Trump claimed was “my friend.”

Somebody please explain to Chris Wallace of Fox, who will never be his father (and my friend), Mike Wallace, that the Phone Conversation I had with the President of Ukraine was a congenial & good one. It was only Schiff’s made up version of that conversation that was bad!

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 14, 2019
Trump slammed Wallace shortly after his program with Defense Secretary Mark Esper questioning the president’s phone call — and challenging Trump’s order pulling U.S. troops out of Syria to cede the battlefield to Turkey in that nation’s assault on America’s longtime Kurdish allies.
