This is what is called an exercise in futility

Mitch McConnell has already stated that the Senate is not going to remove Trump from the Presidency. While McConnell is only one Senator, he is the Senator that understands the overall position of his caucus. He certainly wouldn't be making these sorts of brash statements unless he was pretty damned confident of the final outcome.

The reality of the situation is that we have become a red/blue country. Forty Four of the Republican Senators represent what can be considered to be very red states, where there is going to be overwhelming support for the President and overwhelming anger with the concept of him being impeached. The closest thing to a Republican representing a "blue" state is Susan Collins in Maine, where Clinton still didn't reach 50% of the overall vote and Trump got one of their electoral college votes by winning part of the state.

But more to the point, this isn't a situation where there is a question of whether or not a person is guilty or innocent of what they are accused of doing. This is a simple disagreement as to whether or not the actions of the President actually constitute something that should be even considered impeachable. You either believe that requesting foreign assistance in American investigations is a criminal action when Trump does it but not when other Presidents do it... or you believe all Presidents should be treated equally.

It's really that simple.

If it was perfectly acceptable for the Obama administration to investigate Trump when he was the actual GOP nominee in 2016, then Trump cannot be impeached for just asking about investigating someone who isn't actually the Democratic candidate for President.

It's a matter of fundamental fairness and equal treatment under the law and politics.

The reality is that no amount of hearings or evidence or testimony, or witnesses, or anything like that is going to change people's minds, because all you are doing is spinning your wheels in regards to completely irrelevant facts that does not alter the actual objections that people have towards impeachment.

In order to change people's minds, you would have to actually make them understand why it was acceptable behavior in 2016, but so unacceptable to be considered impeachable in 2019. You can scream and holler and jump up and down and hold your breath till you are blue in the face and it will do you no good, unless you are able to move past that fundamental objection.

Because this is not an investigation that is attempting to bring people together in agreement. It's an investigation that is completely designed to push people further and further apart. It's not a question of "law" as no Democrat has provided any legal precedent for any previous person in our 240 plus year history to have ever been held legally liable for these sorts of actions.

It's become a partisan disagreement about politics and the actual meaning of impeachment. It literally has nothing to do with "the law".

Trump told reporters Friday that he didn’t know whether Giuliani was still his personal attorney, adding that the two hadn’t spoken since Thursday.

“Well, I don’t know,” Trump said, responding to a question about the lawyer as he prepared to leave the White House for a rally in Louisiana. “I haven’t spoken to Rudy. I spoke to him yesterday briefly. He’s a very good attorney, and he has been my attorney.”

Trump then added, “Yeah, sure,” before moving on to another question.

In a text message to The Washington Post’s Josh Dawsey shortly after the president’s comments, Giuliani confirmed that he’s still representing Trump.

“Yes,” Giuliani wrote. “I am still his attorney.”

Just as I suspected....the proof will come when the details get etched in stone and right now......seems a rather hollow deal by trump.....nothing new about that!!!!

Markets like it. But does the “phase one” trade deal President Trump announced with China pass the Trump Arson Test?

Trump often takes credit for putting out fires he lit himself. And so farm that seems to be the case with the agreement Trump reached with China on Oct. 11. The deal averts a tariff hike Trump had scheduled for October 15, in exchange for increased Chinese purchases of U.S. agricultural products. The stock market rose on the news, since it removes some uncertainty about tariffs rising even higher in the future.

Nothing is in writing, however. Negotiators will work out the details during coming weeks, with a formal deal possible in mid-November, when Trump is scheduled to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Chile. Oh, the two sides also haven’t worked out the biggest issues, which involve fundamental reforms to China’s economy. China will allow more US access to China’s financial sector, but there are no agreements about China halting its theft of foreign technology or its subsidies to huge government-controlled firms. And all of the Trump tariffs now in place will stay there.

Greg Daco, chief US economist for Oxford Economics, called the agreement an “itsy-bitsy-teeny-weeny handshake deal” and said, “Behind the hype, this is nothing more than a partial and ostensibly unsustainable deal lacking in real enforcement mechanisms. For businesses this will mean less damage, not greater certainty.”

The deal also fails the Trump Arson Test. It averts any further escalation in the trade war, for now, but it still leaves substantial barriers to trade that weren’t there before Trump started the trade war in 2018. The Trump-o-meter is unimpressed, giving Trump a MEDIOCRE score this week, the third highest.

Today's NYT is spot on to the stupidity of trump.......!!!!!!

It has often been noted that President Trump holds a vision of his job more befitting a Latin American caudillo than the leader of the world’s oldest democracy. His geopolitical idols trend toward the autocratic — Kim Jong-un, Rodrigo Duterte, Mohammed bin Salman, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Vladimir Putin. He suffers delusions of grandeur, proclaiming himself “the Chosen One” and having “great and unmatched wisdom.” He accuses those who challenge him of treason, and he regularly wipes his feet on the constitutional principle of checks and balances.

Witness the over-the-top letter his White House counsel, Pat Cipollone, sent House Democrats this week, the gist of which was: Your impeachment investigation is illegitimate, and we will not participate. As if this were the president’s prerogative. Legal experts mostly dismissed the letter as a political stunt. Gregg Nunziata, a former counsel to Senator Marco Rubio, Republican of Florida, called it “bananas.” Walter Shaub, who resigned as head of the Office of Government Ethics in 2017 over the administration’s glaring lack of ethics, said that it “mistakes Trump for a king.”

Fortunately, Mr. Trump’s dreams of dominance tend to bump up against the hard realities of incompetence — his and that of his cronies. It has long been apparent that the president has a peculiar eye for talent. The repercussions of this were on display this week as the Ukraine scandal at the heart of the impeachment inquiry continued to unspool, spotlighting a fresh batch of colorful characters and questionable behavior.

In one of the more bizarre impeachment twists to date, two businessmen involved in the president’s efforts to dig up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden were arrested on campaign finance violation charges as they were trying to leave the country on Wednesday. Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman are Soviet-born naturalized Americans who have been working closely with Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, to investigate Mr. Biden, one of the president’s chief political rivals, and his son Hunter, who had business dealings in Ukraine. The men were also helping search for evidence to support a (debunked) conspiracy theory blaming Ukraine for the 2016 hacking of the Democratic National Committee.

Indicted Giuliani Associate Attended Private Trump Party
October 11, 2019 at 5:40 pm EDT

“Donald Trump tried to distance himself from the latest scandal that threatens his presidency on Thursday by saying he didn’t know either of the foreign-born Rudy Giuliani associates that his own Justice Department had just indicted for alleged campaign finance violations,” Politico reports.

“But that’s not what one of the men said three years ago — while attending Trump’s invite-only 2016 election night party in New York. In fact, Lev Parnas described himself to a foreign correspondent at the cash-bar event in midtown Manhattan as a friend of the president-elect who didn’t live far from his south Florida winter home.”

Oh, she was upset alright. And she clearly laid out how and why that was an unethical and unconscionable decision on the part of Trump simply because she did not carry out the kind of activities that Giuliani, at Trump's behest, wanted from her, activities that, had she done them, SHOULD have gotten her fired.
