Democrats Speed Towards Impeaching Trump Again
11:28 am
“House Democrats are moving quickly toward impeaching President Donald Trump early next week, a reflection of the seething outrage that remains over his incitement of deadly riots inside the U.S. Capitol,” Politico reports.

“Timing remains in flux and Speaker Nancy Pelosi has yet to make a decision on exactly how to proceed, including whether to pursue a constitutional process that could remove Trump without impeachment. Top Democrats are still in talks with all their members and will hold a caucus-wide call at noon. But they are expected to decide today on their next steps, according to several lawmakers and aides.
Even if the House does impeach Trump, it’s far from clear the GOP-controlled Senate would act before his presidency runs out in 12 days.”

Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), quoted by the Associated Press:
“Every day that he remains in office, he is a danger to the Republic, and he should leave office immediately, through resignation, the 25th Amendment or impeachment.”

_____

If it happens, Trump will have the honor of being the only President impeached twice.

You do realize, Reverend...

That eventually people will see this panty wadding and pearl clutching and total naked blatant hypocrisy for what it is?

Trying to "rush" to impeach a President who will no longer be actually in office by the time the process would be done? All he has to do is "object" and that is eight days.

Could it be more BLATANTLY POLITICAL and irrelevant?

If I was Joe Biden at this point, getting ready to be sworn in, I would be "pissed" that once again Donald Trump is living rent free in every liberal's head and quite literally sucking all of the air out of everyone and completely overshadowing and dominating Joe Biden at this point. Nobody seems to even care that a new President is being sworn in.

Everyone is too raged out and incapacitated by their hatred of the bad orange man!

The ONLY thing that appears realistic to me... is that they are truly scared of Trump and are looking at one last chance to delegitimize him for future purposes. Otherwise, it's nothing but hypocrisy and spite.

If Mr. Trump wants to avoid a second impeachment, his best path would be to take personal responsibility and resign. This would be the cleanest solution since it would immediately turn presidential duties over to Mr. Pence. And it would give Mr. Trump agency, a la Richard Nixon, over his own fate.

Scott, The Wall Street Journal too, is raged out and incapacitated by their hatred of the bad orange man!

I don't think they're scared of him. I think they hate him do much thst they're trying to destroy his reputation for thr rest of history. So to go through impeachment... The house would have to:

1) create articles of impeachment
2) create a committee
3) create a committee report
4) debate the articles of impeachment
5) vote

that is before it goes to the Senate

It took Pelosi and gang nearly three months from start to finish to approve two articles of impeachment against Trump. Both the Jackson and Clinton impeachments took between 2-3 months.

Trump's "conflagration" (really his self immolation) [in simple language, he set himself on fire] will surely keep him from being a serious candidate for 2024.

And as for his lawyers, they aren't crazy clowns, for they made PLENTY of money defending (as best they could) Trump's insanities.

Your "unlikely to be true" list seems to be unsubstantiated hearsay or unsubstantiated hear"see."

Scott, you seem to be saying that you are far, far more clever than all the judges who looked at all the arguments for an unfair election and found them either unconvincing or GROSSLY unconvincing. (Some of them used some very strong language in their rejections.)

You're saying the public is being manipulated (not by the media which you say doesn't "work") --but BY THOSE JUDGES?
[There Roger seems right. You're out of your mind.)

You seem to be saying that the invasion of the Capitol Building was a peaceful protest that may have had some bad elements in it. DUH?

Biden was inciting violence? You're out of your mind.

Pre-inauguration Trump did indeed do a wonderful thing: He promised that he was going to tax the wealthy more because, he said, they "should" pay more.

Trouble is, he did not keep that lofty promise (that got a lot of the Tea Partiers' votes).

But that has never seemed to trouble you at all.

The police officer who later died was indeed injured by a protestor. Others were injured by protestors.

You see "bad health" as the reason.

I just wasted an hour listening to your bunko talk.

You say, if you were a police officer, you would know that the pushback would be strong if you shoot a black person, and that would deter you.
Let me just ask you this: How many white men do you know of who were shot repeatedly in the back by either white or black police officers? I know of none. Of black men who were so shot I know of three, all of them running or moving away from the shooter.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Continue to lie about me Reverend?

Other than hate and lies, what do you bring?

Let me quote "myself" from a post from just yesterday.

While I make no qualms about the fact that there were many statistical and logical inconsistencies with this particular election, I have never once suggested that I believed that the election would be overturned. However, believing that election contests like this can almost never be won, doesn't mean that you should not file the contest. For no other reason than to highlight and bring these allegations to the light of day.

That being said, understanding that these election contests were primarily for show should have been obvious to most everyone. But, of course, it was not obvious to the President (as we learned) and it was not obvious to many Trump supporters who were led to believe that these election challenges had a real chance to succeed. I have had this discussion with many Trump supporters who I attempted to convince (mostly unsuccessfully) that the challenges were ultimately an exercise in futility.

The Dark Winter Presidency is starting to effect gasoline prices as they rise.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Friday she has spoken to the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff about preventing President Donald Trump from initiating military actions or a nuclear strike.

Pelosi said in a statement to colleagues that she spoke with Gen. Mark Milley “to discuss available precautions for preventing an unstable president from initiating military hostilities or accessing the launch codes and ordering a nuclear strike.”

She said, the situation of “this unhinged President could not be more dangerous.”

Pelosi is meeting with the House Democratic caucus Friday to consider impeachment proceedings against the president.

She and Democratic Senate leader Chuck Schumer have called on Vice President Mike Pence and the Cabinet to invoke the 25th Amendment to to force Trump from office. It’s a process for removing the president and installing the vice president to take over.

Trump is set to leave Jan. 20 when Democrat Joe Biden is to be inaugurated.

Democrats are discussing whether to act quickly to impeach Trump as soon as next week if his Cabinet doesn’t first try to remove him after he encouraged loyalists who ransacked the Capitol in a siege that has left five people dead.

The articles are expected to be introduced on Monday, with a vote as soon as Wednesday, according to a person familiar with the planning and granted anonymity to discuss it.

If Trump, whose term ends Jan. 20, were to be impeached by the House and convicted by the Senate, he could be prevented from running again in 2024 or ever holding the presidency again. Trump would be only the president to be twice impeached.

Scott, I said you were gaslighted, but I keep proving it regularly! Impeachment by Wednesday +

What will happen next is obvious: A total crushing, anti-free speech effort that treats Trump-supporting groups like Branch Davidians. An effort to restore the fundamentally unserious neocons as the voice of reason in the room. A hardening of the bounds of the People’s House to keep people away from politicians. A use of any levers of government power — including audits, regulation, and lawfare — to harass conservatives now categorized as seditionists and terrorists by the incoming president who falsely claims to want to unite the country. And above all, a doubling down on all the policies and efforts put in place to crush exactly the type of people who showed up at the Capitol yesterday in a foolish, desperate attempt to make themselves heard.

The rioters failed in their effort and ensured their marginalization. But marginalization doesn’t mean evaporation. They’re still here. They’re still Americans. And they’re not going away. How our politicians handle that will dictate a lot about the next several years. And that shouldn’t give people a lot of hope, considering that four years after his election and two weeks before his departure, the only person they’ll apparently listen to is still Donald Trump.

Perdue Concedes Defeat to Ossoff
3:07 pm
David Perdue (R) conceded to Jon Ossoff (D) on Friday, ending Georgia’s runoffs for control of the U.S. Senate days after his campaign floated potential legal action to contest his narrow defeat, the Atlanta Journal Constitution reports.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Jon Ossoff: Jewish upbringing gave me ‘conviction to fight for the marginalized’

Ossoff may well be the most high-profile Jewish Democrat in the United States right now.

“I’m descended from Ashkenazi immigrants who fled pogroms in the early 20th century, and I grew up among relatives who were Holocaust survivors,” he told Haaretz in an exclusive interview last week. “So my Jewish upbringing instilled in me a conviction to fight for the marginalized and oppressed, and also to be vigilant where there’s the risk that authoritarianism may emerge.”

He says the Trump era has seen a dangerous rise in right-wing extremism, noting that “ethno-nationalism had been a threat to Jewish people throughout the world and our history, and a threat to minorities in American society.” However, he adds that since Trump was elected in 2016, we’ve also “seen a renaissance of civic engagement. It rejects right-wing extremism and now has served to defeat Donald Trump. The task at hand is to ensure that this movement blossoms and continues as more than mere opposition, but as a movement to help provide jobs and justice for all people in Georgia and across the country.”

While the runoff elections may have been unprecedented in this Southern state, they were not a fluke, but the culmination of years of work by activists and state officials to make the Democratic Party viable again in the South. President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in Georgia last month, by some 12,000 votes, was the first by a Democratic presidential candidate since Bill Clinton in 1992. And the fact that both Ossoff and his fellow Democratic candidate, Rev. Raphael Warnock, have unseated the two incumbent Republican senators is a remarkable turnaround.

“In the last decade, we’ve been building a multiracial, multigenerational coalition across race and faith lines committed to lifting working people of all backgrounds,” says Ossoff, 33. “The coalition in Georgia has invested in voter registration, volunteer mobilization and community outreach to grow this new Southern coalition.”

He adds: “I’m reflecting on the first meal I ever shared with [the late Georgia] Congressman John Lewis. He wanted to talk to me about the alliance between Jews and Blacks in the civil rights movement, and how he had marched alongside rabbis and Jewish activists for civil rights in the South in the mid-1960s. He stressed how important it was to sustain this alliance.”

What’s happening now, Ossoff believes, “is the emergence of this alliance coming out for health, jobs and justice for all people in this state. And that the standard bearers in these historic runoffs are a young Jewish son of an immigrant, mentored by John Lewis, and the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, a Black preacher who holds Dr. [Martin Luther] King Jr’s pulpit and who pastored John Lewis, is a continuation of this tradition."
