Perhaps they shouldn't have run off the old cops?

Minneapolis City Council Voted to Spend $6.4 Million on New Police Months After Defund Vote
The Minneapolis City Council voted to defund the police department after George Floyd’s death. To the shock of no one, crime went up in the city after many left during the protests. Now the city council approved spending $6.4 million to hire more police officers.
Remember when Minneapolis City Council President Lisa Bender claimed the ability to call the police over a robbery “comes from a place of privilege?”
Minneapolis police said they began the year with 817 officers on their payroll, 60 fewer than the previous year. But, only 638 officers are currently available to work, the department said. Some officers resigned or retired early in the year, while another 155 remain on some form of extended leave.
Citizens have begged the city council and other leaders to hire more cops. With so few, many have seen longer response times to reported crimes. The city council began to change course in September.

To be clear, the City Counsel and others within the Minneapolis hierarchy spent most of the post-George Floyd summer attacking police. After they got what they appeared to want (a large reduction of the police force) they apparently do not like the end result, which of course was more crime.

Now the problem is that most potential police officers do not want to come to Minneapolis and work in a hostile environment where most of the politicians demonize them. So you are going to be looking at the leftovers from other departments and those people otherwise do not want.

None of this is a surprise.

While it may cost billions to fix all the businesses and buildings they destroyed it won't take much to fix their signs
