Does anyone actually understand this?

LA teachers union slams California schools plan as 'propagating structural racism'
California's largest local teachers union on Monday slammed the state's new school reopening plan as "a recipe for propagating structural racism" hours after Gov. Gavin Newsom and Democratic lawmakers unveiled their compromise proposal.

The United Teachers of Los Angeles' strong condemnation is a bad sign for Newsom and Democrats who spent months working to strike a deal on legislation they believe will spur districts to reopen. Los Angeles Unified is the second largest district in the nation with about 600,000 students — and by far the largest in the state with roughly 10 percent of California's public schoolchildren.
Myart-Cruz accused white, wealthy parents of increasing that political pressure and "driving the push behind a rushed return."

It seems every time a liberal disagrees with any policy, idea, or action they simply label it as racist. If there is no apparent reasoning behind such a claim, they simply put a term such as systemic or structural in front of the word racist, making it seem as if the general public is just not woke or smart enough to see the subliminal racism.

At the end of the day, most private schools are conducting in person classes. In fact, of those who go to alternative or private schools that I know, almost all of them have been in person for quite some time. The fact of the matter is that if anyone is being left behind and not getting the proper education that they need, it would be those in the public school system, who cannot afford to make a different choice.

The only way this is racist is to suggest that minorities are less likely to value an in-person education and would prefer to continue schooling remotely. To make this sort of argument is basically racist if I am judging this at face value. There is zero evidence at this point that Covid is dangerous to school aged children at all, and no real statistics that would suggest that minority children are effected differently than white children in the same area or school districts.

As far as I know there is only one group of people who are adamantly against reopening of the schools, and that would be the teachers union. A group of people who are harming an otherwise stellar reputation that they have enjoyed ever since I can remember.

I just posted about this on last thread. I don't like Newsom. But his proposal looks thoughtful and reasonable. That the union is rejecting it and calling it racist is why so many people do not like unions.

Systematic analysis

Here is the most glaring hypocrisy at the moment: Republican opposition to President Biden’s $1.9 trillion proposed spending plan to deal with the damage done by the COVID pandemic.

The principal objection from GOP senators is that the bill will drive up the deficit.

Yet almost all of these same Republicans agreed to explode the deficit when they voted for Trump’s polices. A combination of tax cuts and spending added twice as much, $3.9 trillion, to the deficit, according to The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, a nonpartisan group.

This kind of hypocrisy is contagious.

Look at how badly it is infecting young Senate Republicans.

Republican Sens. Josh Hawley (Mo.), Ted Cruz (Texas) and Tom Cotton (Ark.) delight in demonizing liberal, coastal elites — but each of them holds not one but two degrees from elite, coastal universities.

They don’t bother to apologize for the hypocrisy.

They know their political ambition will not be rewarded by truthfulness, or by working across the aisle to better the lives of their constituents.

Their political role model is Trump.

California teachers union head slammed as hypocrite for taking kid to school

The head of a California teachers union has been blasted as a hypocrite after he was caught dropping off his 2-year-old daughter at her private preschool — despite saying it was unsafe for children to be back in classrooms, according to a report.

“Meet Matt Meyer. White man with dreads and president of the local teachers’ union. He’s been saying it is unsafe for *your kid* to be back at school, all the while dropping his kid off at private school,” a group known as Guerilla Momz said on Twitter.

The vast percentage of the $1.9 trillion package is covid relief.

State governments need assistance to distribute the vaccines. They need assistance for the police departments and firefighters. Without the covid-19 package to avoid laying off police officers and firefighters.

They need assistance to clean up the schools and provide ventilation systems and the barriers on the desks in the classrooms.

All of this is in response to the covid-19 pandemic. Every single penny is helping people who need unemployment benefits and avoid evictions from their apartments and home mortgages.

As far as I have seen it is not based upon where the money is being sent. No longer red and blue states but the United States of America.

Guidelines for schools

Mechanical Ventilation – HVAC system should operate at total supply air flow throughout the day as appropriate.2. Natural Ventilation – Open windows if operable and no mechanical ventilation is available.3. Increased Ventilation (Flush Period) – A break should be scheduled between classes to allow room air to be flushed between classes.4. Supplemental Filtration – An air purifier can be used to increase ventilation. Multiple units may be necessary depending on the size of the classroom.5. Supplemental Ventilation – A window-mounted box fan can efficiently exhaust indoor air outdoors. The fan can be positioned by the teacher if teaching without a mask.6. Physical Barriers – Plexiglass dividers can be positioned between students. Dividers should extend a few inches off the table to provide a physical barrier when students are sitting back in their chairs.7. Noise – Students should be asked to talk quietly to reduce aerosol germs released when speaking. A sound monitor with a visual display mounted on a wall or in easy view can be used as a noise level reminder.8. Outdoor Spaces – Move classes outdoors if possible.9A. Physical Distancing – Modify smaller classrooms to allow for live-streaming of classes into a second room. Allow teachers to move easily between classrooms.9B. Physical Distancing – Teachers should maintain at least 6 feet of physical distancing with students.9C. Physical Distancing – Arrange desks to be at least 6 feet apart, ideally in a zig-zag configuration.10. Hand Hygiene – Place hand sanitizer in easily accessible locations. Encourage students to disinfect hands before touching shared items.11A. Cleaning and Disinfecting – Make disinfectant wipes available for students to wipe down surfaces before and after use.11B. Cleaning and Disinfecting – Students should use their own supplies and disinfect shared supplies.

Will I get a relief check?

It depends on how much money you make. Individuals earning under $75,000 per year and married couples earning less than $150,000 would receive the maximum available, which is $1,400 per household member. The amount phases out the more money you make, and no individual earning more than $100,000 or couple earning more than $200,000 would receive money. The Senate may lower those income thresholds, to reduce the package’s cost by making fewer people eligible.

There are tweaks to previous eligibility requirements. Previously, only children listed as dependents on a federal tax return could receive a payment. Now all adult dependents, such as college students, can be counted as a household member and receive money.

What happened to the $2,000 checks we were promised?

Congress approved $600 payments in December, so the $1,400 proposal is intended to bring the total to $2,000 per person.

I lost my job. What’s in this legislation for me?

The federal government would boost weekly unemployment compensation by $400, up from the current $300 but lower than the $600 increase that was available at the beginning of the pandemic.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Unemployed people would also be able to receive financial support for a longer time. Freelancers and gig workers could get help from the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance program for 74 weeks, while other out-of-work individuals who participate in traditional state unemployment programs could get 48 weeks of payments. The increased benefits would be available until Aug. 29.

My family needs more help than that. What else would the government do?

The House legislation would pump additional money into federal, state and local programs to assist struggling families with housing, food and healthcare costs. For example, the 15% increase in food stamp benefits would be extended through September, rather than expire in June. More than $19 billion would be provided for help paying rent and utility bills, and $10 billion for aid with mortgages and property taxes. The child tax credit would increase to $3,000, or $3,600 for a child under 6 years old. If you receive healthcare through the Affordable Care Act, subsidies would cover more of the cost.

The legislation would not require schools to reopen, but it would provide money to make it safer for them to do so.

I want my child’s school reopened. What will this legislation do?

The measure does not require schools to reopen, but it does provide money to make it safer for them to do so. Roughly $130 billion is proposed for schools to buy equipment, upgrade facilities and hire more staff. Schools would be required to use some of the money to help students catch up, with programs like summer classes.

Republicans have been critical of the proposed sum for schools because the money would be available through much of 2023, suggesting it’s not targeted at getting children back into classrooms. Democrats say that schools need the longer-term support to address budget shortfalls and other lingering challenges from the pandemic.

My business is hurting. What will this do for me?

The legislation would fund a variety of programs to help businesses. Small businesses could apply for some of the $15 billion for low-interest federal loans, and a new $25-billion program would prop up struggling restaurants. Another $7 billion would be injected into the Paycheck Protection Program, which was formed last year to help prevent layoffs.

My local and state officials says they’re facing budget shortfalls because of the pandemic. What would this legislation do?

The House package includes Biden’s proposed $350 billion for cities, states, territories and tribal governments. Most of the money would go to states. This provision may well not survive, at least not the full amount; Republicans are opposed and some Democrats note that a number of states — including California — are projecting budget surpluses.

Will this legislation help fight the virus?

The measure would fund a variety of actions to combat the pandemic. There’s $46 billion to expand testing and contact tracing, $7.5 billion for distributing vaccines, $5.2 billion for vaccine development and $500 million to track how vaccines work on new COVID-19 variants.

Every single penny is in response to the covid-19 pandemic and recovery.

Border Dems Warn Biden Border Policies Will Be ‘Catastrophic for Our Party, for Our Country’

He noted that while thousands have waited two years south of the border for their chance to enter the country, that migrants who made it across the Rio Grande Valley recently were processed and released.

“If that is the message that we send to Central America and around the world, I can assure you it won’t be long before we have tens of thousands of people showing up to our border and it will be catastrophic for our party, for our country, for my region, for my district,” he said.

“I think we need to have a better plan in place,” he added. “I think asylum seekers should be able to ask for asylum and be processed in their home country or a neighboring country and we shouldn’t have a policy in place that influences people to make this 2,000-mile trek where cartels and human traffickers are enriching themselves.”

Every single penny is in response to the covid-19 pandemic and recovery.

You’re a buffoon

$1.5 million earmarked for the Seaway International Bridge, which connects New York to Canada. Senate Leader Chuck Schumer hails from New York.
$50 million for “family planning” – going to non-profits, i.e. Planned Parenthood, or public entities, including for “services for adolescents[.]”
$852 million for AmeriCorps, AmeriCorps Vista, and the National Senior Service Corps – the Corporation for National and Community Service – civic volunteer agencies. This includes $9 million for the AmeriCorp inspector general to conduct oversight and audits of the largess. AmeriCorps received a $1.1 billion FY2020 appropriation.

People of goodwill can debate each of these goals, but is it truly emergency spending or funding related to Covid-19?

For example, what is the public purpose for a hike in the minimum wage to $15 per hour – which the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says will cost the economy 1.4 million jobs?

Certainly, the coronavirus stimulus bill does provide $473 billion in payments to individuals, $75 billion in cash for vaccines, $26 billion to restaurants, $15 billion to help fund airline payrolls, and another $7.2 billion in Paycheck Protection Program funding for small businesses.

However, The Wall Street Journal editorial board estimated that only $825 billion was directly related to Covid-19 relief and $1 trillion was “expansions of progressive programs, pork, and unrelated policy changes.”

For example, separately, our auditors found that $470 million in the bill doubles the budgets of The Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment of the Arts and the Humanities.

$200 million in the bill to The Institute of Museum and Library Services (FY2019 budget: $230 million). This agency is so small that it doesn’t even employ an inspector general.
$270 million funds the National Endowment of the Arts and the Humanities (FY2019 budget: $253 million) – In 2017, our study showed eighty-percent of all non-profit grant making flowed to well-heeled organizations with over $1 million in assets.
A quick spotlight on agencies and entities receiving “coronavirus recovery” money in the bill includes:

$350 billion to bailout the 50 States and the District of Columbia. The allocation formula uses the unemployment rate in the fourth quarter of 2020. Therefore, states like New York and California –who had strict economic lockdown policies and high unemployment – will get bailout money. States like Florida and South Dakota – who were open for business – will get less.
$128.5 billion to fund K-12 education. The CBO determined that most of the money in education will be distributed in 2022 through 2028, when the pandemic is over.

$86 billion to save nearly 200 pension plans insured by the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. There are no reforms mandated while these badly managed pensions are bailed-out. Many of these pension plans are co-managed by unions.

$50 billion goes to the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). A portion of these funds is earmarked to reimburse up to $7,000 for funeral and burial costs related to Covid-19 deaths.

$39.6 billion to higher education. This amount is three times the money – $12.5 billion – that higher ed received with the massive CARES Act funding from last March.

$1.5 billion for Amtrak – the National Railroad Passenger Corporation. In FY2020, Congress appropriated $3 billion for Amtrak ($2 billion in annual appropriations, plus an additional $1 billion in the CARES Act COVID relief bill). In the three years before the pandemic, AMTRAK lost $392 million – even after a $5 billion taxpayer subsidy (FY2017-FY2019).

FBI director says domestic terrorism cases have soared to 2,000 in recent months
By Devlin Barrett and Matt Zapotosky
March 02 at 8:46 AM PST
FBI Director Christopher A. Wray said Tuesday that his agents are pursuing roughly 2,000 domestic terrorism cases — a huge spike as the FBI tries to show it is taking the threat of such attacks seriously in the wake of January’s pro-Trump riot at the U.S. Capitol.
“We have significantly grown the number of investigations and arrests,”
Wray told the Senate Judiciary Committee, noting that the number of such cases has more than doubled since he became the FBI director in 2017. He had testified in September that the number of such cases was about 1,000. By the end of 2020, there were about 1,400 such cases, and after Jan. 6 the figure ballooned again, the director said.

The overall bill would provide millions of Americans with $1,400 direct payments to help them weather the pandemic that’s stalled much of the economy for a year and killed half a million people. It contains billions of dollars for vaccines and COVID-19 testing, schools, state and local governments and emergency jobless benefits while providing tax cuts or payments for many families with children.

Full Coverage: Coronavirus pandemic

In a sign of hardball politics ahead, top Republicans suggested that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Schumer squeezed money into the bill for their own states.

McCarthy said the bill had $100 million to help extend the San Francisco area’s BART commuter rail system south to San Jose. That project was approved previously by the Trump administration and is not in Pelosi’s San Francisco district, a top Democratic aide said.

McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., suggested Schumer had won money for a bridge connecting upstate New York to Canada. A senior Democratic aide said the bill contains $1.5 million for the bridge, which is in the district of Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y. The aide said it was requested in 2020 by the Trump administration’s Transportation Department, which was headed by Elaine Chao, McConnell’s wife.
