The stages of grief...

Are some Democrats reaching acceptance?

As our liberal scribbler used to demand in the run up to election day: the right would feel "devastation" when Hillary Clinton was elected President. As it turned out, it was left who got to feel "devastation" when Donald Trump was elected President.

What's interesting to watch from afar is how quickly some liberals have moved through the stages of grief, and how some appear to be just getting started.

1) Denial - Quite obviously this one was certainly prevalent the night of the election, where a subdued CNN team continued to hold off calling states that others had calleed, while repeating over and over that Clinton still had an Electoral College lead. Many people went to bed, still hoping to wake up to good news. Not too terribly surprisingly, it has continued for many who demand that "Donald Trump is not my President" and it's even more prevalent with those already arguing for immediate impeachment hearings. Keith Olbermann has volunteered himself to lead the "resistance" (or perhaps it's better to suggest he is leading the denial).

2) Anger - Well some went directly to this stage. Watch Van Jones, and how close his head came to exploding on election night, when it became evident that Trump was going to win. Apparently Jones wasn't bothering with denial, and shot straight to anger. I still feel a lot of this out there, and I have a feeling it will continue to last.

3) Bargaining - This is what you see when people start to obsess about how things could have been different and how they can be different in the future. In this case, you see the left justify the loss as both out of their control (FBI, Electoral College) and as something that could have easily been prevented (better candidate, better strategy). Some still demand that it was the evil forces of racism and that somehow those 5000 estimated KKK members were the difference in the election. Either way, it's difficult for the left to imagine that Donald Trump beat their candidate straight up. So they spend lots of time coming up with a reasonable alternative (in their minds) for his win, and very simple changes they can make to turn the tide. Listening to a less smug Bill Maher pointing out very obvious, easy to change behavior that could have made a difference is a manner in which he can personally promise to behave a little better in the future, if that's what it takes to win elections again.

4) Depression - Many, especially your beautiful snowflake liberals, went straight to the Play-doh, hot chocolate, and counseling. This comes from the realization that your view of the country and the world is not necessarily shared by everyone, and the forces that disagree with you are now in control. The fact that much of what you saw as progress might be stripped away (or at least pushed to the back burner) causes issues with your own self importance. The fact that you no longer wield any power to push your views (while those you pushed against are now in control) is very hard. In fact, it can be seen as quite "devastating".

5) Acceptance - There are some within the liberal ranks who are looking to use this election as a wake up call. These people have accepted what happened, and are looking for the best way foreword. They instinctively understanding that this election was not a fluke, and they understand that having Obama at the top was masking the fact that the Democrats have been becoming the minority Party at every other level. Most importantly, they understand the need to make consequential changes to turn things around for the Party moving forward. At this point, they may come across a lot of resistance from those still in the other stages. Those who still deny that Trump won legitimately, still argue that it was a fluke, still are mad at how they believe racism stole the day, still believe that they just need to tweak an otherwise solid core, or are simply too messed up emotionally to come to terms with it.

Obama sets new record for regulations

President Obama has just set a new record for rules and regulations, his administration spitting out 527 pages worth in just one day, as he races to put his fingerprint on virtually every corner of American life and business.

According to the Competitive Enterprise Institute, the administration has just shattered the old record for pages of regulations and rules published by the in-house journal, the Federal Register.

At 81,640 total pages for 2016, it ranks first and 235 pages more than all of those published in 2010, the previous record.

Kudos to Trump for getting Ford to halt their planned move to Mexico. He threatened to slap a 35% tarriff on all Ford compact cars made in Mexico. He and Bill Ford know each other and met to discuss it.

He's a already getting more done economically than Obama did in eight years.

President Obama, who has done less for Europe than any American president since Calvin Coolidge, cannot stop telling Europeans what to do. As he sets out on his final European tour as president, with his political party back home in a state of near collapse, and with Putin inflicting yet another painful humiliation on the least successful American president in the history of the modern Middle East, nothing seems able to shake President Obama’s serene confidence that he knows more than other people, sees farther than they do, and that other people are eager to gather up his pearls of insight.

Not everything Obama is recommending to Europe is bad, but his words no longer have a significant impact from a continent battered first by his failures in foreign policy and now by the collapse of his legacy at home.

In total, Republicans control nearly 1,000 more legislative seats than they did when Obama took office. The Republican share of state legislative seats has grown from just under 44 percent in 2009 to 56 percent after Tuesday’s election.

After the latest losses, Democrats will hold just 42 percent of legislative seats in the nation.

Beginning next year, Republicans will control 67 of the 98 partisan legislative chambers, after winning new majorities in the Kentucky House, the Iowa Senate and the Minnesota Senate. Democrats picked up control of both the state Assembly and Senate in Nevada, and the New Mexico state House.

Since Obama took office, Republicans have captured control of 27 state legislative chambers Democrats held after the 2008 elections. The GOP now controls the most legislative seats it has held since the founding of the party.

oh, wouldn't that be sweet. unlikely though...

In conversations with a host of conservative legal experts at this week’s Federalist Society convention in Washington, what emerged was a striking consensus of a two-horse race to replace the late Justice Antonin Scalia on the Supreme Court. According to these sources — many of whom have had discussions with President-Elect Donald Trump’s transition team and therefore requested anonymity — it will come down to either Diane Sykes or William “Bill” Pryor.

Donald Trump has made it clear that he's not interested in uniting the county.

He is going to ignore the law and appoint his son in law to a federal office.

He has nominated for the Secretary of Justice who has a long history of racist and opposition to the civil rights and voting rights laws. He has also come out against the Supreme Court decision that made marriage legal for all\ consulting adults. I strongly believe that he would have been against the Love vs Virginia law the Supreme Court overturned the laws that did not recognize interracial marriage. I will bet anyone here that he will proceed with the "Lock her up" campaign theme.

His CIA appointment has no intelligence experience, but he is pro torture.

His appointment for the Secretary of Defense was fired and was denounced by non the less than Collin Powell.

This is just the beginning.

I'm sorry to pop you bubble. I have 1,638 days, one day at a time.

I went to my AA meeting this morning. People are invited to share their lives and how to maintain their sobriety. I'm humble about it, I'm not perfect, I leave that burden to our esteemed host. I am usually asked to speak last, as I usually have something to say things that people like to hear, and I like to do it because I want to help those who may be struggling with their recovery. I spoke of what is going on and got a big round of applause.

After the meeting, I was passing by some of the fellow members and they were talking about me. This made me feel wonderful yet humble. They were talking about what he attendees see or feel what they hear me speak. They were saying how interesting it is, that when I'm sharing, everyone in the room pays close attention, and it's like the room in their words, not mine, that there seems to be a feeling of strength and faith that fills the room.

I know some of you hope the worst for me, but I don't let that bother me. I'm better than those who hold those feelings toward another fellow human being.

BTW, Trump is going to be the craziest man to ever hold the office, and before it all plays out, if he hasn't started World War III and killed us all, you will regret supporting he son of a bitch.

Roger. Trump is going to be President because too many people were willing to swallow lies - the Republican lies about Obama put Trump in position, and the Democratic lies about Clinton propelled his victory. That she was accomplished, or qualified, or even her knowledge or temperament. The Democrats doubled down on identity politics, and deserved to lose.

Of the two, I blame the Democrats more. Not just the leaders, but all of the voters who, knowing the extent of the DNC and Clinton's deceit, supported her anyway.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Pompeo's nomination to lead the CIA also opens the prospect of the U.S. resuming torture of detainees. Trump has backed harsh interrogation techniques that President Barack Obama and Congress have banned, saying the U.S. "should go tougher than waterboarding," which simulates drowning. In 2014, Pompeo criticized Obama for "ending our interrogation program" and said intelligence officials "are not torturers, they are patriot

Pompeo is in favor of so called enhanced interrogation techniques, aka, torture, that violates international law.

The CIA director should not be partisan, but a dispassionate advisor to the President. This man does not appear to be qualified.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

wp, I agree with the first part of your post.

As to the Democrats a Hillary Clinton. The lies, oh yes, and most of the folks here either don't believe that Donald lies about everything, or they just don't care.

I look at the election and the Democrats from a wider range.

They lost the White, working class voters, in 1980. Hell, I voted for Reagan. Never since, but I'm in the minority. For the most part, they haven't been able to recover them. And Clinton never really put any effort into that.
I am drifting to sleep now,

U.S. Code 3110 - 3 would prohibit Trump's son-in-law from any paid position in the federal government but is silent on unpaid positions such as an informal advisor.

However, it wouldn't prevent Trump's ex wife Ivana from being appointed ambassador to Czech Republic.

Ex wives are no longer relatives in the eyes of the law.

And IMO she would be a good appointment. Far better than some of the embarrassments Obama appointed as political payback.
