Liberals change their tune

From collusion to meddling...

So the "NEW" talking points memo from the left is that the Mueller investigation wasn't about finding Trump/Russian collusion and that Trump was not defending himself all along...

Apparently the "NEW" talking points memo from the left is that the Mueller investigation was about finding evidence that the Russians meddled, and that Trump was wrong all along to call it a witch hunt. Apparently, Trump wasn't defending himself and his campaign. He was defending the "Russians".

Really. Seems many of these outlets share a brain.

MSNBC
Trump’s “hoax” talking point is clearly dead. The indictment specifically says the accused Russians “knowingly and intentionally conspired” to interfere with “the U.S. political and electoral process, including the presidential election of 2016.”
CNN
Robert Mueller just made it impossible for Trump to call the special counsel probe a 'total hoax'
NBC News
Democrats lashed out Friday at President Donald Trump after the investigation he has called a "hoax" and a "witch hunt" resulted in the indictment of 13 Russian nationals on charges of interfering in the 2016 election.

So, yeah... apparently we appointed a multi-million dollar special counsel to tell us that there were Russian internet trolls, and indict a whole bunch of people who will never stand trial. Go figure.
_______

If you had asked 100 liberals six months ago if they would feel vindicated if the Mueller investigation revealed that there was Russian meddling, but no collusion with the Trump campaign. How many say yes? Any?

Trump Has Helped Putin Cover Up a Crime

David Corn: “This means that Mueller’s probe could yield additional information regarding the details and breadth of the Russian campaign to intervene in the election to assist Trump. The president, who has yet to say anything in public showing he is committed to preventing Russian meddling in this year’s election, can continue to dismiss such material as ‘fake news’ produced by a ‘witch hunt.’ (According to the Washington Post, in his first year as president, Trump said the Russia probe was a Democratic hoax 44 times.)

“Hours after Friday’s indictment, Trump issued a statement once again dismissing the Russia investigation for producing ‘outlandish partisan attacks, wild and false allegations, and far-fetched theories.’ But with this indictment—and possibly others—Mueller has demonstrated that Trump, by refusing to acknowledge fully the Russian assault of 2016, has been helping Putin cover up a crime. “

“Special counsel Robert Mueller’s office has told a federal judge it has found evidence that Paul Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman, committed bank fraud not addressed by the indictment last October in which he was charged with money laundering and failure to register as a foreign agent,” Politico reports.

New White House Policy Could Impact Kushner

“White House Chief of Staff John Kelly announced that beginning next week, the White House will no longer allow some employees with interim security clearances access to top-secret information — a move that could threaten the standing of Jared Kushner, President Trump’s son-in-law,” the Washington Post reports.

“Kushner, a senior adviser to the president, has been able to see some of the nation’s most sensitive secrets even as his background investigation has dragged on for more than a year.”
“White House officials have privately discussed concerns that Kushner’s clearance faces obstacles… Among the potential problems: repeated amendments that he had to make to a form detailing his contacts with foreign officials. Two U.S. officials said they do not expect Kushner to receive a permanent security clearance in the near future.”

Another thing to ponder as mueller gets the next shoe ready....R's have no spine....only want the NRA money to ensure they get elected.....

The answer to this particular scourge — a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines — is staring us in the face. We have done it before. It worked.

In the 10-year period before the assault weapons ban of 1994 to 2004, 19 gun massacres (six or more fatalities) took 155 lives.

In the 10 years the ban was in effect, 12 massacres took 89 lives.

In the 10 years after the ban lapsed lapse — a period when overall crime was declining sharply, but the prevalence of AR-15s and their likes was exploding — 34 massacres took 302 lives.

Rarely are public policy experiments so stark, their results so persuasive.

Republicans in Congress have a clear choice: Finally, finally, finally reinstate the ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, and save American communities from future killing sprees, or admit they are leaving Americans, including schoolchildren, vulnerable to spree killers with military equipment.

If they had a shred of integrity about facing the consequences of that decision, they would at the very least find $10 billion in the couch cushions — a fraction of what it will cost to fund President Trump’s wall — to buy bulletproof vests for each the nation’s 50 million public-school children.

A depressing, disgusting expenditure that would be, but at least it would be honest about the world they have created.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Far different my friend.

I made it abundantly clear that the report is just a first step into the investigation of possible cooperation of Trump's campaign members and the strong possibility the candidate Trump.

The tin hat is obviously upon those who believe that this was the conclusion of the investigation into the Russian intervention into the election and cooperation with the Trump campaign. They are deceiving themselves.

Trump and his attorneys signaled in the hours after the indictment’s release that they were vindicated by where it stopped. “Very happy,” the president’s personal lawyer, John Dowd, told POLITICO. Trump himself celebrated on Twitter, saying that Mueller’s showed that his campaign “did nothing wrong - no collusion!”

But veterans of criminal investigations said the president’s celebration may be premature.

While the indictment says three Trump campaign officials may have played “unwitting” roles in the specific Russian election interference it describes, the document draws no broader conclusions about any potential Trump campaign ties to the Kremlin — which has been alleged to take many different forms beyond the focus of Friday’s charges.

And they noted that Mueller’s latest move appears to establish the critical basis to charge American co-conspirators in the Russian election effort. Before Friday, it was unclear what crimes any U.S. persons might have been aiding or abetting. Now, a legal framework exists for criminal charges against Americans — including ones who do not show up in Friday’s court document.

The indictment mentions conspirators both known and "unknown" to the grand jury, legal experts noted.

“This language is purposeful,” said Elizabeth de la Vega, a former assistant U.S. attorney from the Northern District of California. “It unmistakably indicates there is much more to the story.”

Any one who now believes trumps no russian meddling, needs to take that tin hat off....

On their face, the indictments have little to say about the possibility of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, a fact that has already led to much rejoicing in MAGAland. Rosenstein's comments at the press conference, however, do not foreclose the possibility that this could change. "There is no allegation in this indictment that any American was a knowing participant in this illegal activity," he said, and no assertion that the activities described altered the election's result. The indictment also takes care to note that the defendants conspired with "persons known and unknown to the grand jury." Together, these facts may very well mean that no one in the campaign broke the law. But Mueller's investigation isn't over, said Rosenstein, which means that more names—maybe even big ones—could be implicated in the future.

In any event, the indictments are a firm rebuke to those who believe that the Russia story is a hoax, a conspiracy theory to which Trump was reportedly clinging as recently as a few days ago. Collusion or no collusion, his own Department of Justice—remember, Rosenstein is a Trump appointee—is now on the record on the subject. The president cannot continue to refuse to treat Russia as a threat and/or to take meaningful action to protect the i

Three Islamic groups rallied together under The South Florida Muslim Federation, Inc. banner to launch an online crowd funding site.

They said the money would be given to an education fund to help those caught up in the “tragic events”.

President Donald J. Trump has been fully briefed on this matter and is glad to see the Special Counsel’s investigation further indicates — that there was NO COLLUSION between the Trump campaign and Russia and that the outcome of the election was not changed or affected,” the White House said in a statement.

Unfortunately, as usual, CH takes the party line.

"If you had asked 100 liberals six months ago if they would feel vindicated if the Mueller investigation revealed that there was Russian meddling, but no collusion with the Trump campaign. How many say yes? Any?"

1: Mueller team has alleged no active collusion.

2: For the rest of America, the takeaway is much worse.

They attempted to change the outcome of the election. There is no way to determine if it changed the 72,00 votes in PA, WI and MI.
But they have been successful. They have sewn doubt into our fundamental rights to choose our President.

This completely devastated the "hoax" invented to explain why the Democrats lost the election. The President's White House counselor stated that the Russians have been actively engaged in disruption of the election system. He stated dozens of time that it was a "hoax" and a "fabrication". They were incorrect to be polite.

He never took the threats to our esteemed elections seriously, because to do that is to call into question, the legitimacy of his election as President.

Any more than to claim that this is proof that there is no collusion is denial that the sun rises in the east. The unawares and others were, to be honest unknown, actually involved in the Russians are the subject of the investigation that is still underway.

This isn't the last episode of the "Reality Show Administration".

Just Another ‘Infrastructure Week’

“Another bitter week that took Washington to the brink of exhaustion landed Donald Trump at the epicenter of more tragedy, scandal and rancor than a conventional president would hope to face in a full year,” CNN reports.

“The White House was sent reeling by the Florida school massacre, new indictments in the Russia probe, its own mishandling of domestic abuse claims against a top staffer, allegations that Trump covered up extra-marital affairs and another huge immigration fail.

“All of this unfolded when the administration hoped to focus on infrastructure — when the big headlines would involve the President pushing his next big agenda item.”

James said...

“The indictment is packed with details of how Russian nationals duped Donald Trump campaign volunteers and grass-roots organizations in Florida into holding rallies they organized and helped fund with foreign cash… During the heat of the 2016 race, Trump campaign officials in Florida said they were surprised by all the grass-roots support for the president — which seemed entirely organic at the time.”

U.S. Must Fight Russian Meddling Without a Leader

New York Times: “After more than a dozen Russians and three companies were indicted on Friday for interfering in the 2016 elections, President Trump’s first reaction was to claim personal vindication… He voiced no concern that a foreign power had been trying for nearly four years to upend American democracy, much less resolve to stop it from continuing to do so this year.

“The indictment secured by the special counsel, Robert S. Mueller III, underscored the broader conclusion by the American government that Russia is engaged in a virtual war against the United States through 21st-century tools of disinformation and propaganda, a conclusion shared by the president’s own senior advisers and intelligence chiefs. But it is a war being fought on the American side without a commander in chief.

“In 13 months in office, Mr. Trump has made little if any public effort to rally the nation to confront Moscow for its intrusion or to defend democratic institutions against continued disruption.”

McMaster Says Evidence of Meddling Is ‘Incontrovertible’

White House National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster said evidence of Russian meddling in the 2016 election is “now really incontrovertible,” CNN reports.

McMaster has said previously it had been difficult to say definitively because “technically it was difficult” but “also you didn’t want to divulge your intelligence capabilities.”

He added: “But now that this is in the arena of a law enforcement investigation it’s going to be very apparent to everyone.”

Students to Boycott Schools Until Congress Acts on Guns
3 hrs ago

In response to Wednesday's school shooting in Florida, high school students and teachers across the country are planning walkouts this spring to push Congress to act on guns.

On Twitter, students used the hashtags #NationalSchoolWalkout, #April20 and #April20Walkout to plan mass boycotts on the anniversary of the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999, as well as a separate walkout on March 14.

Thousands have signed a petition from the Twitter account "National School Walkout." The goal: to make Congress listen to a population that, for the most part, doesn't have voting rights.

It's unclear where, exactly, the movement started, and there's a separate school walkout planned for March 14, which was circulated by the Twitter account "Women's March Youth." That walkout will last for 17 minutes, to honor the 17 victims in the Parkland, Florida, shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School.

"Enough is enough!" the post reads. "Women's March Youth EMPOWER is calling for students, teachers, and allies to take part in a #NationalSchoolWalkout for 17 minutes at 10am on March 14, 2018."

On a Facebook event page with thousands of attendees, organizers of the Women's March urged not only students but also parents, teachers and administrators, to join in for the 17 minutes.

"Parents have the right to send their kids to school in the mornings and see them home alive at the end of the day," they wrote.

It's a call to action from a demographic that has been vocal during this week's tragedy. Twitter accounts from classmates of those killed on Wednesday featured strong words for anyone who doubted the need for gun laws.

In a response to a tweet from President Donald Trump offering "thoughts and prayers" for the victims, a student of the high school tweeted: "Why was a student able to terrorize my school mr president."

THIS COULD BE A GAME CHANGER.

"Nothing has changed since Columbine," reads the petition on change.org. "Let us start a movement that lets the government know the time for change is

ask the FBI, child.

17 kids are dead because of the Famous But Incompetent shitheels who have time to depose a president, but no time to stop the a killer. a killer they received multiple warnings about.

maybe if the killer had naked pictures of donald trump he might have been stopped.

there you go again, alky. assuming anyone here gives a shit.

btw, to your earlier point that this is only "step one," let's assume that it is. two years, and we're at step one. what if it's a ten step investigation, and each step is two years? that's 20 years, alky. odds are you won't live to see the end of it.

THE SUPREME COURT: DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Justices Rule Police Do Not Have a Constitutional Duty to Protect Someone
By LINDA GREENHOUSE
JUNE 28, 2005
WASHINGTON, June 27 - The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm, even a woman who had obtained a court-issued protective order against a violent husband making an arrest mandatory for a violation.

The decision, with an opinion by Justice Antonin Scalia and dissents from Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg, overturned a ruling by a federal appeals court in Colorado. The appeals court had permitted a lawsuit to proceed against a Colorado town, Castle Rock, for the failure of the police to respond to a woman's pleas for help after her estranged husband violated a protective order by kidnapping their three young daughters, whom he eventually killed.

For hours on the night of June 22, 1999, Jessica Gonzales tried to get the Castle Rock police to find and arrest her estranged husband, Simon Gonzales, who was under a court order to stay 100 yards away from the house. He had taken the children, ages 7, 9 and 10, as they played outside, and he later called his wife to tell her that he had the girls at an amusement park in Denver.

Ms. Gonzales conveyed the information to the police, but they failed to act before Mr. Gonzales arrived at the police station hours later, firing a gun, with the bodies of the girls in the back of his truck. The police killed him at the scene."

The investigation was always about Russian meddling and preventing it from happening again (evidence points to Russia planning further meddling in this year's election and beyond).

Which is why those opposed to the investigation of the established fact of Russian meddling have always been, at best, useful idiots for a foreign enemy power, and at worst, knowing and willing traitors to the United States of America.

Collusion and obstruction, simply, are avenues of investigation that needed and need to be followed as evidence for them arises.

No names revealed of who Russians contacted. As the indictment detailed efforts by the Russians to set up events for Trump supporters in Florida, there were contacts made with people on the Trump Campaign. The indictment doesn’t list the names of those who were contacted by the ‘joshmilton024@gmail.com’ account – instead, they are referred to as “Campaign Official 1,” “Campaign Official 2” and so on. But let me play devil’s advocate for a minute. Why not reveal who those people were? Is it really that big of a deal?

It ain't close to over....Saw btw that floriduh social services visited the shooter and deemed him nutty, but not a threat....Wonder if trump will now blame Scott for the failure like he did with the FBI?????

Why expose any American to unwanted attention in the indictment, since it's not that big a deal. I try not to read too much into what is NOT included in an indictment, because there are too many possible reasons. That's the mistake CH et al are making.
