Pretty good economic news

Making Black America Great Again!!

  • Nonfarm payrolls increased by 164,000 in April
  • The unemployment rate fell to 3.9 percent in April (an 18-year low)
  • The unemployment rate for black workers dropped to 6.6 percent, beating the previous record low of 6.8 percent set in December.
  • The jobless rate for Hispanics fell to 4.8 percent, tying the record reached last year and in 2006.
  • Average hourly earnings number rose by 4 cents, equating to a 2.6 percent annualized gain

One of those good, but not great jobs reports. The best news is that we are at (or reaching) the point of full employment. Almost everyone who wants a job probably has the chance right now to get a job. We would all like to see wages increase a little more (after a long tepid patch the past few years), but at least it is moving in the right direction.

The unemployment rate is actually pretty good, though labor force participation is still lower than we'd like and that partially accounts for it.

Barring unforeseen events, I expect that to hold steady or even improve a bit more because a lot of the workforce "aged out" - retirement, disability, due to the prior difficulty in finding jobs - and that still leaves openings for younger workers taking those positions. That could last another few years even.

Fatty 38 times the lost years book less jobs in a month.

As for the 3.9 % unemployment. The Lost Years Prez . Never book that. The bootlicking press called 5 % full Employment and the "new normal".

Mueller Probe Could Boost GOP Midterm Candidates

Donald Trump's shake-up of his legal team this week suggested he is prepared to go to war with special counsel Robert Mueller. As observers of all stripes assess potential outcomes for the president, Republican voters are cheering Trump on, signaling that the longer the investigation continues, the more they see themselves as fellow soldiers in his battle with an overreaching prosecutor.

The Trump-Mueller clash is intensifying as primary voters head to the polls in key races that will ultimately shape the balance of power in Congress. Candidates seeking the Republican nomination next week for U.S. Senate seats in West Virginia and Indiana, for example, have been echoing Trump's "witch hunt" rhetoric. And party strategists say base voters could be motivated not just through the primary season but into the general election by the continued investigation, which they perceive to have ventured beyond its mandate -- and was possibly unwarranted in the first place.

Black Unemployment at historic low.

Republican Donald Trump again made a direct appeal to black voters on Friday night, urging them to abandon the Democratic party and give him a chance.

Speaking at a rally in Dimondale, Michigan, an overwhelmingly white suburb outside of Lansing, the GOP nominee argued that Democrats, including his rival Hillary Clinton, have taken advantage of African American voters and taken their votes for granted.

“Tonight, I’m asking for the vote of every single African American citizen in this country who wants to see a better future,” Trump told the crowd.

“What do you have to lose by trying something new, like Trump?” he asked them. “You’re living in your poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58% of your youth is unemployed, what the hell do you have to lose?”
