Frontrunners?

Priority should be to get someone up and running before the next session starts!
Just as we did in 2010 when John Paul Stevens retired and Elena Kagen was confirmed in August. There was no suggestion from the media or Republicans that Obama had to wait because there was a midterm election.

Amie Parnes, the author of this piece, frames it as Young vs Old, Establishment vs Antiestablishment -- and she isn't wrong. But that framing also skips past the truth of it.

The real story is this: Believers vs the Cynics.

Youthful lefties still believe leftwing nonsense like "democratic" socialism, group identity, and all the rest. The Old Guard doesn't believe in much of anything other than lining their own pockets.

As the Old Guard ages and their numbers dwindle, the youthful believers demand to take over -- and the Left always-always-always devours its own.

Today's Old Guard came of age politically in the 1960s and '70s, after the more-moderate party elders got brushed aside by the radical Boomers and hippies. But you'd be hard-pressed to find a real radical left among them. The Clintons set the modern template: Say or do anything to win and keep power, then use the resulting influence to grow "rich beyond the dreams of avarice." Never before has America given so much to such otherwise unimpressive hustlers.

Even Barack Obama cashed out pretty much the moment he left the White House. Hell, considering Obama's net worth coming into the White House, having produced not one actual good or service aside from a couple of not-very-good books, it's a safe bet that Obama was never the radical he had played at being. It was always about the money, and about corrupting the law and the Constitution to get it.

But he sure did inspire a new wave of Believers, didn't he?

And now they've come to take what they feel is their due -- the cynical husk of the Democratic Party -- and re-radicalize it.

They'll do it, too, over the course of the next two, three, maybe four elections.

And make no mistake: This is a genuine grassroots radicalization. And they're angry, too, feeling robbed by the Clinton Machine of their rightful Bernie nomination two years ago.

I suspect that the party will become further marginalized during this period, until the Cynics take back over and drag it back towards moderation. But you never know. Maybe they'll find a hard lefty charismatic enough to create an illusion of centrism, and then take the country over the cliff.

What I do know is that no matter what George Will says, the Democrats in their current state absolutely cannot be trusted with power. On the off chance of another wave like 2006-08, legislatively and culturally they'll make Obama's first two years look like Reagan's.

So keep that in mind as you're weighing your votes over the next few elections

Top Army Officer Executed For Giving Troops Extra Food In North Korea
4 hrs ago

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un reportedly publicly executed a high-ranking military officer for giving out extra food and fuel to colleagues at the
l.

The leader was infuriated on discovering the fact that 56-year-old Hyon Ju Song, a lieutenant general of the Korean People’s Army, had been giving extra rice and corn rations to his troop and their families.

The officer, who was found guilty of profiting the enemy, engaging in anti-Party acts and abusing authority, was shot with 90 bullets by nine military death-row convicts at the firing range of the Kang Kon Military Academy, located in the capital, Pyongyang.

“We no longer have to suffer and tighten our belts to make rockets or nuclear weapons,” the officer had reportedly said while checking oil supplies for the launching station.

The officer sent out 900 kilograms of fuel, 590 kilograms of rice and 730 kilograms of corn to soldiers at the Launching Station which Kim did not approve of.

“This was considered an anti-Party act violating the Ten Principles for the Establishment of the Party’s One-Ideology System,” a source said, Fox News reported.

“The ideological poisoning that is personal idolization is corrupting the chief personnel in the People’s Army. We must nip the bud of ideological poisoning,” another source quoted Kim as saying.

Kim has a history of ordering executions.

In February 2016, North Korea's military Chief Ri Yong Gil was executed on charges of corruption and for forming a political faction, Reuters reported.
In April 2016, the then Defense Minister Hyon Yong Chol was executed in front of an audience of hundreds for reportedly showing disloyalty to Kim and falling asleep during an event attended by the leader, BBC reported.
In December 2013, Kim executed his uncle Jang Song Thaek for being a counter-revolutionary and on charges of corruption. He was reportedly killed after being stripped naked and fed to a pack of hungry dogs .

“I put no cruelty past the North Korean regime, but it does sound extreme even for them. In the recent past, they did have an effigy of the South Korean president mauled by dogs,” Aidan Foster-Carter, a senior research fellow in Sociology told the Independent, at the time.

“However the killing of Jang Song Thaek has been an episode of state terrorism and the fact they did purge him and it was done so publicly shows that the military and Kim Jong Un is trying to warn people not to revolt and how savage punishments can been,” he added.

In May 2015, a senior official revealed to CNN that Kim had ordered the execution of his aunt and Jang’s wife Kim Kyong Hui for complaining about her husband's execution .

"Kim Jong Un ordered his aunt, Kim Kyong Hui, to be killed. Only his bodyguard unit, Unit 974, knew this — now senior officials also know she was poisoned,” the official said.

North Korea has increased nuclear production at secret sites, say officials

Jun 29th 2018 6:38PM

WASHINGTON — U.S. intelligence agencies believe that North Korea has increased its production of fuel for nuclear weapons at multiple secret sites in recent months — and that Kim Jong Un may try to hide those facilities as he seeks more concessions in nuclear talks with the Trump administration, U.S. officials told NBC News.

The intelligence assessment, which has not previously been reported, seems to counter the sentiments expressed by President Donald Trump, who tweeted after his historic June 12 summit with Kim that "there was no longer a nuclear threat from North Korea."

Analysts at the CIA and other intelligence agencies don't see it that way, according to more than a dozen American officials who are familiar with their assessments and spoke on the condition of anonymity. They see a regime positioning itself to extract every concession it can from the Trump administration — while clinging to nuclear weapons it believes are essential to survival.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

June 13th Donald J. Trump ignorantly tweeted:

@realDonaldTrump
Just landed - a long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office. There is no longer a Nuclear Threat from North Korea. Meeting with Kim Jong Un was an interesting and very positive experience. North Korea has great potential for the future!
4:56 AM - Jun 13, 2018
__________

In recent months, even as the two sides engaged in diplomacy, North Korea was stepping up its production of enriched uranium for nuclear weapons, five U.S. officials say, citing the latest intelligence assessment. North Korea and the U.S. agreed at the summit to "work toward" denuclearization, but there is no specific deal. On Trump's order, the U.S. military canceled training exercises on the Korean peninsula, a major concession to Kim.

While the North Koreans have stopped missile and nuclear tests, "there's no evidence that they are decreasing stockpiles, or that they have stopped their production," said one U.S. official briefed on the latest intelligence. "There is absolutely unequivocal evidence that they are trying to deceive the U.S." Four other officials familiar with the intelligence assessment also said North Korea intended to deceive the U.S.

U.S. intelligence agencies have stepped up their collection against North Korea in recent years, and it appears to be paying off with greater insights into a country that has long been the world's hardest spying target, officials say. NBC News agreed to withhold some details of the latest intelligence assessment that officials said could put sources at risk.

"There are lots of things that we know that North Korea has tried to hide from us for a long time," a U.S. intelligence official said.

It's long been understood that North Korea had at least one undeclared facility to enrich nuclear fuel, aside from Yongbyon, its main nuclear site.

"When North Korea constructed the enrichment facility at Yongbyon in 2009, the North Koreans did so at a pace that suggested this was not their first rodeo, i.e. not the first time they had assembled large cascades of centrifuges," said Jeffrey Lewis, director of the East Asia Nonproliferation Program for the James Martin Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies at Monterey.

Joel Wit, who negotiated a 1994 nuclear agreement with North Korea, said the U.S. always believed North Korea had two facilities to enrich nuclear material: Yongbyon and a second site the U.S. is aware of but whose name has not been disclosed.

"People have been open to the possibility there might be more," he said.

James said...

The latest U.S. intelligence assessment concludes that there is more than one secret site, officials tell NBC News. The question is whether Kim will be willing to admit it.

"This is why people want North Korea to declare all its facilities up front," said Wit, a former Clinton administration official and senior fellow at the Stimson Center who founded a web site devoted to North Korea, 38north.com.

The intelligence assessment comes on the heels of a report by 38north.com showing that North Korea was continuing to make improvements at its major disclosed nuclear facility at Yongbyon.

"The observed activity appears inconsistent with a North Korean intent to abandon its nuclear weapons programs," said Bruce Klingner, a former CIA analyst and North Korea expert at the Heritage Foundation. "There seems little reason to continue expansion plans if the regime intended to dismantle them as would be required under a denuclearization agreement."

One senior U.S. intelligence official offered a different view, noting that the decision by Kim to suspend nuclear and missile tests was unexpected, and the fact that the two sides are talking is a positive step.

But that official also acknowledged that intelligence analysts expect the Kim regime to try to deceive the United States.

"Work is ongoing to deceive us on the number of facilities, the number of weapons, the number of missiles," he said. "We are watching closely."

I guess all this is just FAKE NEWS, FAKE INTELLIGENCE.

Or is Donald J. Trump being led around by the nose?

Putin is a nice guy, Trump says.

WATCH: Ex-Clinton aide: 84 percent of Americans support turning undocumented immigrants over to authorities

Hill.TV |

Prominent Democratic pollster Mark Penn said on Thursday that a vast majority of Americans don’t really support so-called sanctuary cities that shield immigrants in the country illegally from deportation.

Penn, who served as chief strategist for Hillary Clinton's 2008 presidential campaign, revealed that 84 percent of Americans favor turning undocumented immigrants over to federal agents.

The Imaginary Constitution

Yet what the Left could not win at the ballot box it won in the high court, again and again and again. It did this by a tremendously successful propaganda effort to reframe the Constitution as a “living Constitution.” Let’s give it a more accurate name: the Imaginary Constitution.

The actual Constitution is a source of frustration and vexation to progressives because it does not mandate the things they want to require, while it does grant clear and unmistakable protection to things they actively hate (guns) or desire strongly to restrict (speech). Their solution, going back decades, is simply to promulgate an Imaginary Constitution more to their liking. When Senator Kamala Harris says, as she did on MSNBC, that should President Trump appoint another originalist to replace Justice Kennedy, “we’re looking at a destruction of the Constitution of the United States,” it makes sense only if you understand that she’s not talking about the actual Constitution. She’s talking about the Imaginary Constitution.

It's why the left is in complete meltdown. They are seeing their one remaining lever of power disappear in a Trumpian extravaganza.

Nobody I knows has a problem with this. Unless of course those huddled masses don't want to follow our immigration laws. For those who would rather break the law than follow it, a vast majority of Americans would tell them to go back and do it legally.

Of course, why have laws at all Roger?
