Shooter unsuccessfully sued newspaper for defamation

While one probably has nothing to do with the other, it becomes ironic that the very people who have been writing editorials and opinion articles about how liberals need to "fuck civility" will be the same ones who are the most "shocked" to see a crazy person open fire on employees of a local newspaper.

Meanwhile, Maxine Winters now has death threats against her, after spending the past few days promoting and encouraging the same sort of harassment that the shooter was originally arrested for.

I certainly understand that there are politicians, media members, and rank and file liberals who are very upset over a booming economy, near record low unemployment, almost no mention of terrorism, and the fact that the adults in the USSC spend the past few weeks slapping down liberal court activism. But perhaps we should all understand that public calls for incivility, high ranking elected leaders demanding that people break the law, and a general feeling that anything goes is not a healthy one for society as a whole.

This particular shooting is not a gun law deal. It's not something that can be blamed on Trump. It's very likely just a crazy person who somehow got the idea that shooting up a news room is a reasonable action to take in today's uncivil society.

It's the normalization of violence we've been getting from the left. None of them cared when steve scalise was nearly shot to death.

They'll start caring when it blows back on them. You reap what you sow.

The week before Thanksgiving in 1985, a 39-year-old Donald Trump announced his plan to make sure nobody would ever forget him.

At a showy news conference at his sleek, glass-wrapped Grand Hyatt in midtown Manhattan, and later that evening at a cramped, tense community meeting in the cafeteria of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice on the Upper West Side, Trump unveiled drawings and models of his vision for the old Penn Central rail yards on the bank of the Hudson River. It wasn’t just the largest undeveloped tract of land in Manhattan; it was “the greatest piece of land in urban America,” he crowed. And on those 76 acres, he intended to build nearly 8,000 apartments and condominiums for up to 20,000 people, almost 10,000 parking spots, some 3.6 million square feet of television and movie studio space, and some 2 million square feet of “prestigious” stores. There would be no fewer than six 76-story towers, and looming atop it all one unprecedented skyscraper twice that height. It was a behemoth endeavor meant to go, his promotional materials proclaimed, “beyond the grandeur and excellence that has become synonymous with projects bearing the Trump name.”

This was supposed to be his legacy. Not Trump Tower. Not a clutch of casinos. Certainly not a political office of any kind.

In a metropolis of superlatives, he was striving to be New York’s biggest builder, a cocksure maker of tangible, unmissable things—and here, now, he wanted to build a city within the city, a conspicuously separate entity, of a style and scale no one had accomplished, not even the man who had shaped modern New York, Robert Moses. It was, in the words of the New York Times, his “bid for immortality.” First, he called it Television City; then, simply and unsurprisingly, Trump City. That centerpiece skyscraper would be the world’s tallest building, and he was going to live at the top.

And he failed.

He took his failures out on the United States.....

He is the largest failure in history. And we are paying the price.

The victims, notably not Donald J Trump per Scott.

The victims were identified as Rob Hiaasen, 59, a former feature writer for The Baltimore Sun who joined the Capital Gazette in 2010 as an assistant editor and columnist; Wendi Winters, 65, a community correspondent who headed special publications; Gerald Fischman, 61, the editorial page editor; John McNamara, 56, a staff writer who had covered high school, college and professional sports for decades; and Rebecca Smith, 34, a sales assistant hired in November.

Roger, may I point out that their deaths by your personal standards are meaningless, but for a political use.

"The victims were identified"

Very sad, and also shows that any psychopath with a grudge can "get even" unless we are pathologically vigilant. It's a "violence thing" and psychopathy is NOT a treatable mental illness.

Also sad is that "violence" lessons get lost in the inevitable cry for gun control and blaming the gun, not the person. This murderer used a hunting-type shotgun. Shotgun~! Not an AR-15, nor a pistol, nor an AK-47-----all of which are deemed especially dangerous.

Fact is, the shotgun is the MOST dangerous of all inside buildings. Well...even V.P. Biden advised homeowners to buy a shotgun for defense. It is the most popular hunting arm in America, and is found in the most homes. Yet, many persist in calling for a "ban"~!

That energy would be best spent on studies to find out why "people are increasingly violent towards others". After all, copious murders are done with knives, fists, household items, and even cars. And if you want to expose what preventable thing causes the most deaths? Medical malpractice/errors reportedly kills about 1000 of us DAILY. Hmmm.....

On the Upper West Side, Trump was overbearing, tactless and tone-deaf. His proposals were extreme, offensive and ill-conceived. Many of the people who fought him thought they beat him. They prevented him from doing what he actually wanted to do. But those buildings were built. That money was money he made. It’s the Trump paradox: He’s the most successful failer of all time.

Elected by a minority. Enabled by a cowardly Republican party and he may have the largest impact upon the United States in history.

He is dismantled the economic and military successful alliance in history that has kept the world out of another World War in favor of an alliance with the most brutal dictatorships around the world. Russia, China, North Korea and counting.

And we've had riots ever since.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Perhaps we should all call for public civility, the highest ranking elected leader stop tweeting lies, demand that he cannot break the law as he stated and provide a genuine attempt to unite the country instead of appealing to his base with every single comment he makes.

Loretta said...

"Elected by a minority."

Duly elected by a MAJORITY of electoral votes.

C.H. Truth said...

Perhaps we could stop riling people up with lies about how the President is breaking the law and how you demand he should be impeached.

Or did you forget that the USSC pretty much reinforced the President's authority in pretty much every area liberals claim he is breaking the law?

I guess we now believe it's up to liberal commentators (and not the USSC) to make the determination if the President is breaking or following the law?

I don't believe you fully grasp the idiocy of continuing to demand that completely legal actions taken by this President are illegal (because you don't like them).

Obama was worse with children than Trump at the border.

FALSE

Fact Check Politics
Did Barack Obama Oversee the Separation of 89,000 Children From Their Parents?
A right-wing Facebook page publishes a grossly misleading meme that compares the immigration policies of the 44th and 45th presidents.

Facebook1.4kRedditTwitterWhatsAppEmailMore

CLAIM
Under President Barack Obama, 89,000 children were separated from their immigrant parents at the United States border.

RATING
FALSE
ORIGIN
The Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” immigration policy became the leading political issue of the summer of 2018, with images and accounts of children being separated from their detained immigrant parents causing widespread outrage and fierce debate.

In light of this outrage, some commentators — many but by no means all supporters of U.S. President Donald Trump — sought to highlight the immigration policies of former president Barack Obama and leveled allegations of hypocrisy against Trump’s liberal opponents, reminding them that some critics of Obama referred to him as the “Deporter-in-Chief” during his administration due to the record number of deportations that took place during his two terms — which was due in part, but not entirely, to a change in the definition of the word.

On 23 June 2018, the right-wing “Federalist Papers” Facebook page published a widely-shared meme which claimed that Obama had overseen the separation of 89,000 children from their parents at the United States border with Mexico, alleging a “double standard” and “media bias” against Trump.

Compare:
[Donald Trump] 1,900 children separated from parents at border. Result — MEDIA FRENZY.
[Barack Obama] 89,000 children separated from parents at border. Result — SILENCE. FALSE

This exposes the huge double-standard and media bias against Trump.
FALSE

The two figures included in the meme do not describe the same thing, and the meme is fundamentally compromised by a gross misrepresentation of the differing immigration policies of the Obama and Trump administrations.

The administration of President Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions introduced a new “zero tolerance” immigration policy in April 2018. Whereas previously, those found crossing the border into United States illegally were largely subjected to administrative proceedings, before being deported, the zero tolerance policy instructed border agencies and immigration courts to arrest immigrants for violating U.S. immigration laws, and subject them to criminal trial, prosecution and incarceration, before their eventual deportation.

One necessary and foreseen consequence of this new policy was that adults who crossed the border from Mexico into the U.S. along with their children would have their children taken away from them while they were detained, pending criminal trial, and during their period of incarceration.

In a speech about the zero tolerance policy, in May 2018, Sessions made it clear that the separation of children from their parents was a foreseen and intended component of the policy.

I have put in place a “zero tolerance” policy for illegal entry on our Southwest border. If you cross this border unlawfully, then we will prosecute you.

well alky, for a "failer" he seems to be doing a pretty good job of absolutely trouncing the democratics every single fucking day.
