Jonathan Turley believes we are "one witness away from potential catastrophe".

To be clear, this one witness would not prove collusion, or prove obstruction, or prove much of anything tangible. Turley is focused on the recent Michael Cohen claims that the President knew about the Trump Tower meeting before it happened.

Now realistically, and by basically all accounts (even Turley's) this would not bring us any closer to any real "collusion". But as it stands there are approximately a half dozen witnesses (including Cohen) who have testified previously that the President was not involved prior to the meeting. Turley believe that if another witness (other than Cohen) were willing to change their story, that the others could face possible "process crimes" which in Turley's opinion would lead to a series of events that would bring the downfall of Donald Trump.

Turley believes that Don Jr could be specifically targeted for perjury.  Turley believes that the President would attempt to fire Robert Mueller, which would lead to multiple resignations, loss of support in congress, and ultimately prove obstruction and (presumably) lead to his impeachment.

The logical problem with this is that why would the prosecutor believe anyone who "changed" their story, rather than those who stuck with their original testimony. By nature, someone who changes their story seems like a less believable witness. Not to mention, that the only person who changed his story (Cohen) says he has no proof, and has not actually testified under oath.

The second logical problem would be that the President's reaction would not be to fire Mueller, but rather wait for any sort of indictment of Donald Jr and quickly pardon him (Same would hold true for Jared Kushner). While this would probably create a massive melt-down from the left, it would not cause any "constitutional questions" about whether a Special Counsel can be fired. Quite frankly, most everyone would "expect" Trump to pardon his own son or son-in-law over a "process crime" for an investigation that has otherwise come up empty.

President Trump is going to give pleasure to the top 1% and increase the deficit. But I'm sure that they will spend the money in a way that tax cuts will stimulate more jobs like Reagan said in 1980. Supply Side economics. A Republican mantra that has been proven incorrect with massive deficits.

President Donald Trump is considering a massive new tax cut, but the administration's plan to implement the tweak to the tax system is on shaky legal ground.

The New York Times reported Monday that the Trump administration was considering a change that would index capital-gains taxes to inflation.

The administration wants to fulfill this longtime Republican goal by adjusting Treasury Department rules, bypassing Congress.

What's the plan?

For instance, an investor who made a $100,000 real-estate investment in 1990 and sold today for $1 million must pay taxes on the $900,000 difference.
But Under Trump's new plan, the $100,000 investment would be adjusted for inflation.

Based on the consumer price index inflation rate between 1990 and today, the value of the initial investment would be adjusted to about $198,000.
That means the investor would owe taxes on the $802,000 difference, a significant savings compared with current law.
According to independent analyses, Trump's plan would mainly benefit wealthy Americans, who make up a larger portion of asset sales. The Penn-Wharton Budget Model estimated that the change would cut taxes by $102 billion over 10 years, with 97.5% of the benefit from capital-gains inflation indexing going to the top 10% of income earners. In fact, according to its estimate, 63% of the benefit would go to just the top 0.1% of income earners.

Why the plan is probably not feasible
This idea has come up before, but it was scrapped because it appeared to be on shaky legal grounds.

To implement the tweak, the Treasury Department would adjust the meaning of the word "cost" from the Revenue Act of 1918. Capital-gains indexing advocates say the original meaning of "cost" has not been clearly defined.

But in 1992, the administration of President George H.W. Bush considered making the same change Trump has now proposed and found that the Treasury Department had no legal grounds to make the switch.

In a report from the Justice Department, Assistant Attorney General Timothy Flanigan determined that the meaning of the word "cost" was not ambiguous, since the term had been defined over time by a series of legal rulings and additional legislation from Congress.

"The Department of the Treasury does not have legal authority to index capital gains for inflation by means of regulation," the report concluded.

Turley added that "it's not that the meeting will establish a crime of collusion, even if what Cohen is saying is true, but what it would mean is that Donald Trump Jr. would be in serious jeopardy of a criminal charge."

"If Mueller was to go after Donald Trump Jr., I think we would see a very rapid chain of events and it would not end well for anyone," he said, adding that Trump could react to an event like this by firing multiple people, which could lead the country closer to potential impeachment.

Hoaxes and Witch Hunt are thrown under the bus by VP Pence.

Vice President Pence on Tuesday affirmed the U.S. intelligence community’s assessment that Russia sought to influence the 2016 election, stating firmly what President Trump has been reluctant to say.

“While other nations possessed the capability, Russia meddled in our 2016 elections,” Pence said, speaking at a government cybersecurity conference here hosted by the Department of Homeland Security.

“That is the unambiguous judgment of our intelligence community, and as the President said, we ‘accept the intelligence community’s conclusion,’ ” Pence said.

Christine Todd Whitman served as administrator of the EPA from January 2001 until June 2003 and as the Republican governor of New Jersey from 1994 until 2001.

Calling my fellow Republicans: Trump is clearly unfit to remain in office

President Trump’s disgraceful performance in Helsinki, Finland, and in the days since is an indication that he is not fit to remain in office. Trump’s 2016 “America First” platform might be more aptly named “Russia First” after the disaster that occurred last week.

Trump’s turn toward Russia is indefensible. I am a lifelong Republican. I have campaigned and won as a member of the party, and I have served more than one Republican president. My Republican colleagues — once rightfully critical of President Obama’s engagement strategy with Russian leader Vladimir Putin — have to end their willful ignorance of the damage Trump is doing both domestically and internationally. We must put aside the GOP label, as hard as that may be, and demonstrate the leadership our country needs by calling on the president to step down.

Trump’s sycophantic relationship with Putin is unsurprising given his previous comments about Russia and its dictator. What is shocking is how long he has possessed — and disregarded — hard evidence of Putin’s direct role in undermining our elections. According to New York Times reporting, he saw dispositive emails and texts early in January 2017.

Trumps’ repeated public dismissals of the intelligence coming from his own deputies is deeply disturbing. Along with his walk back of statements last week, and then walking back the walk backs, it’s impossible to keep up, and his behavior warrants a fresh evaluation of whether the president can be trusted with the future of the United States. His apologists will argue that the current outcry is just another attempt by moderates and “establishment” Republicans to discredit the president. But what does this man have to say or do for his supporters to finally see that his actions are detrimental to the country?

She is saying most of what I have been saying. NATO, Putin, love of dictators, etc.

Trump’s avowed respect for the word of a dictator who has spent decades undermining the U.S. and its allies is utterly dangerous. Putin is not our ally. Despite the president’s dismal attempt to change the narrative by explaining that he misspoke in Helsinki, the pattern is clear: As a candidate and as president, he has constantly praised Putin just as he has constantly undercut the core institutions of our democracy — the courts, the media and the FBI. He has a history of discrediting members of his own Cabinet and the agencies they lead. These are not the actions of someone who should be navigating delicate diplomatic discussions and setting foreign policy.

federal judge has blocked the public availability of blueprints that provide instructions for making guns using 3-D printers, just hours before the documents were expected to be published online.

U.S. District Court Judge Robert Lasnik granted a temporary restraining order on Tuesday night barring a trove of downloadable information about creating the do-it-yourself weapons.

Eight attorneys general and the District of Columbia argued the instructions posed a national security threat. New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo (D) on Tuesday also issued a cease-and-desist order against the man who was scheduled to post them online.

“In a major victory for common sense and public safety, a federal judge just granted our request for a nationwide temporary restraining order — blocking the Trump administration from allowing the distribution of materials to easily 3-D print guns,” New York Attorney General Barbara Underwood said in a statement. “As we argued in the suit we filed yesterday, it is — simply — crazy to give criminals the tools to build untraceable, undetectable 3-D printed guns at the touch of a button. Yet that’s exactly what the Trump administration decided to allow.”

Or as most observers believe (and what I suggested) is that Trump would simply pardon Donald Jr.

Others have made the point that if Mueller goes after Jr or Kushner that Trump would then use it as an excuse to retaliate by pardoning everyone involved... Flynn, Papadopoulos, and possibly even Manafort.

That would be a big hoot and it would send your ilk into madness!

MORE RUSSIAN MEDDLING appears to have influenced Roger

In briefings on Capitol Hill, Facebook has told lawmakers that it suspects a Russian group is behind more than 30 pages advocating US political stances, according to a congressional source briefed on the matter. One page promoted a “No Unite the Right 2” march — a counter demonstration to a planned “Unite the Right” event to coincide with the one-year anniversary of the march in Charlottesville in which a woman was killed. There was also an effort to amplify the “Abolish ICE” message pushed by liberals, the source said.

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official had to explain to a Democrat senator during a hearing on Tuesday that illegal aliens are illegal aliens because they have broken federal immigration laws.

....
"Mr. Albence, would you send your children to FRCs?" Hirono asked.

"Again, I think we’re missing the point," Albence replied. "These individuals are there because they have broken a law. There has to be a process."

"They have broken a law but only as deemed so by the president with his --" Hirono tried to claim.

"No ma’am," Albence fired back. "They are there for violation of Title 8 of the U.S. Nationality Act. Okay. U.S.C. 1325. That’s illegal entry is both a criminal and civil violation. They are in those FRCs pending the outcome of that civil immigration process. They have broken the law.""
