The more Trump wins, the more desperate the left gets

Let's cite the facts:
  • 4% GDP growth
  • 4% unemployment
  • Record unemployment for minorities
  • Higher participation rate
  • Rising wages
  • Consumer confidence at record highs
  • Markets at record highs
  • NATO allies ponying up
  • Better trade deal with Mexico
  • Trade concessions from Europe
  • Illegal immigration down
  • No talk about terrorists
So in lieu of all this American success, what is our media talking about? Impeachment. Having the President declared incompetent. Most recently, Robert Reich is arguing that we should "annul" Donald Trump from his presidency.
Impeachment would remedy Trump’s “high crimes and misdemeanors.” But impeachment would not remedy Trump’s unconstitutional presidency because it would leave in place his vice president, White House staff and Cabinet, as well as all the executive orders he issued and all the legislation he signed, and the official record of his presidency. The only response to an unconstitutional presidency is to annul it. Annulment would repeal all of an unconstitutional president’s appointments and executive actions, and would eliminate the official record of the presidency. Annulment would recognize that all such appointments, actions and records were made without constitutional authority.
Now the irony here is that Reich concedes that the President will not step down, that Congress will not remove him under impeachment,  and that his supporters will not abandon him. In fact, Reich concedes that Trump may be favored to win again in 2020. He also concedes that annulment is not in the constitution, but suggests that the constitution could be amended specifically to deal with Trump.

So why "exactly" should we be annulling his Presidency (other than the wild hypothetical hope that Robert Mueller will find compelling evidence that Trump colluded with Putin and that such collusion could be proven to have altered the outcome)? Well the fact that he met with Vladimir Putin in Helsinki. The fact that there was a riot in Charlottesville and some people believed he didn't say the politically correct things. The fact that DHS followed judges orders in separating children from adults at the border containment areas for illegal aliens. Apparently Reich believes that "all of the firings from Trump's staff" is a big issue. He also demands that there is "clear corruption", whatever the heck that actually means. Oh, and let's not forget that Trump is "attacking the press".

Here is what I would like to see. Some good old fashioned honest transparency. Why can the left just not come out and admit that they are sore losers, that they are throwing a temper tantrum, and that they just can't stand that a business tycoon reality television show tabloid star was elected President over Hillary Clinton?

Why won't they simply admit that they would rather see the country fall into the abyss, fail miserably, and have Americans suffer... than to see the country prosper under a Donald Trump presidency?

His popularity is his base not the economy. The Democrats don't want the country to suffer an economic downturn in order to defeat the Republican candidates in November. If the Democrats take back the house, the economy will not spiral down and make everyone poor if they impeach him or not. The seven year and continuing recovery from the Great Recession under President Bush.

His base is the 90% of the Republican party. The percentage of Americans who call themselves Republican is not increasing.

(The fact that there was a riot in Charlottesville and some people believed he didn't say the politically correct things.) A vast majority of the people don't agree that "There are good people on both side ". You not so subtle endorsement of the white supremacist movement is hyperbolic and disgraceful.

"[If] reality isn't tolerable, it should be banned," Carlson said in characterizing Reich.

He added that ex-CIA Director John Brennan reiterated his characterization of Trump as having committed "treason," adding that Brennan again accused the president of a "death penalty offense."

Carlson said that Brennan and Reich show that leftist ire toward Trump has gone from calling him a racist to calling him a traitor to calling him a "non-person who must be erased from our collective memory."

"The left is out of epithets, all that's left is physical harm," Carlson warned.

The Democrats don't want the country to suffer an economic downturn in order to defeat the Republican candidates in November.

then perhaps you can explain the logic behind rolling back the tax cut as their first order of business if they win.

it's only crumbs, right alky? your problem and the problem on the left is that you cannot politically afford for trump to succeed. with each victory the left slides further into obscurity. you don't have an honest platform you can run on. all you have is hatred for trump papered over with leftist platitudes like democratic socialism.

iow, you're fucked, you know it, and you can't stand it.

the source of today's alky talking points:

5:05:12 p.m. Eastern

TODD: Michael, you know where he's trafficking. He's trafficking in this part of the Republican base-- It's not fair to call it the Republican base, although that's what it is now.

MICHAEL STEEL: True. Trump’s base. It’s Trump voters.

TODD: The Trump voters. He's trafficking in their conspiracies. Antifa, an issue in Portland, Oregon. I will grant you that. And is some places else. But this is not a giant issue.

STEEL: This reminds me of his reaction, initial reaction, to Charlottesville. This desire to talk about violence on the left as somehow equal to or perhaps greater than violence on the right when there is no evidence for that.

TODD: Or to rationalize violence!

STEEL: Right.

TODD: I think he just wants to rationalize violence.

well alky, when it's all you've got then i suppose it is.

i mean, you guys can't come right out and run on open borders, tax increases, and destroying the economy, now can you? that is, outside of districts where numbskulls like alexandria fucktardio cortez are running in.

but back to the topic of the post, i would expect an honest liberal (if one can be found) to admit that erasure of the trump presidency from history is the undisputed frontrunner of dumbest fucking ideas offered by a liberal to date.

and yet another example to bolster my belief that liberalism is a mental illness.

The President's base is the people who voted for him. If they vote for him again (an polling shows that nearly all of them will) then he will very likely win again.

Because let's face it... he's done almost nothing that would piss off his voters and he has converted quite a few Republicans who were not Trump fans. I didn't vote for Trump in 2016, but what has he done so far that would push me away from voting for him in 2020?

Unlike you, I can think for myself and I am not manipulated by the sort of silly rhetoric that makes the weak minded fly off the handle about every little perceived issue.

and you DO understand the difference between a news story and an op/ed, right alky?

and you picked a great story.

MSNBC’s Ali Velshi chose to ignore how the Jacksonville shooter bought his gun in Maryland, a state with some of the strictest gun laws in the country, instead of focusing on the gun laws in Florida, which played zero role in the attack. Why? Because Florida has a Republican governor while Maryland’s laws, the ones that failed, were written and passed by Democrats. Former Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley, the man responsible for the restrictive Maryland laws, also chose to blame Florida and the NRA. If he wants to assign blame maybe he should find a mirror.

CNN’s Jeffrey Toobin claimed President Trump’s criticism of Antifa is racist because he thinks the violent left-wing gang is “predominantly African-American.” It’s not, it’s so white their camouflage in a snow storm is nudity. But that fact did not matter, as no one on the panel, not even host Wolf Blitzer, bothered to correct him. We did.

No Roger...

People who think for themselves don't spend all their time "cutting and pasting" stories or following complete nonsense because others are making the same claim.

If you thought for yourself, then you would provide "different" arguments than other people do. You certainly wouldn't be defending Citizen's United. Certainly it's not a coincidence that Trump makes a statement about Google, and suddenly every liberal in the country is against regulating corporate speech - after spending the past 10 years demanding regulation.

Do you really expect that you (on your own and thinking for yourself) suddenly abandoned your position on corporate political speech?

Btw... I love the fact that suddenly the left believes that a story that includes "anonymous sources" is not considered "evidence" of anything. I guess that means that pretty much "nothing" published by the NYT or WaPo since Trump has become President can be believed... since 99% of what they print comes from "anonymous sources".

But another good example of how the sheep follow the herd on something like this... even if it is 180 degree turn from what you have always suggested in the past.

Don't be upset with me, simply because you are weak minded.

AS EVERY CARBON-BASED life form on this planet surely knows, Barack Obama, the junior Democratic senator from Illinois, is running for president. Since making his announcement, there has been no end of commentary about him in all quarters — musing over his charisma and the prospect he offers of being the first African American to be elected to the White House.

But it's clear that Obama also is running for an equally important unelected office, in the province of the popular imagination — the "Magic Negro."

The Magic Negro is a figure of postmodern folk culture, coined by snarky 20th century sociologists, to explain a cultural figure who emerged in the wake of Brown vs. Board of Education. "He has no past, he simply appears one day to help the white protagonist," reads the description on Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magical_Negro .

He's there to assuage white "guilt" (i.e., the minimal discomfort they feel) over the role of slavery and racial segregation in American history, while replacing stereotypes of a dangerous, highly sexualized black man with a benign figure for whom interracial sexual congress holds no interest.

As might be expected, this figure is chiefly cinematic — embodied by such noted performers as Sidney Poitier, Morgan Freeman, Scatman Crothers, Michael Clarke Duncan, Will Smith and, most recently, Don Cheadle. And that's not to mention a certain basketball player whose very nickname is "Magic."

Huh? Did this statement actually make any sense to you when you wrote it?

Bottom line Roger:

My stances have not changed.

Going all the way back to Bill Clinton, I was arguing that you don't have to be a good husband, or a righteous person, or anything else to be a good President. Being a good President is about making the correct decisions for the county, standing by what you campaigned on, and standing strong to what you believe. Clinton might have been a bad man, but he was a fairly decent President.

I didn't like Obama's policies, but I never demanded he be impeached. He believed (probably) in what he was doing. I thought he was overly partisan and self absorbed. When he had majorities, he demanded that the electorate gave him a mandate. When they took it away and put his Party in the minority, he demanded it didn't matter and said he would govern with a pen and phone. He obviously used the "agencies" to do things he couldn't do legislatively (but that's a different story). He always believed he knew better (even when it was proven he was wrong). He would have been a better President if he had more Bill Clinton in him, and was capable of working with conservatives (if only to take credit). But he was either too stubborn, or just... too self righteous. Not sure.

George W Bush was good guy. Probably be a great neighbor. He put good people around him who believed in what "they" were doing. But the neoconservatives fucked some things up (their theories were not so good in reality) and Dick Cheney was responsible (IMHO) for most of the deception that lead us to war. But ultimately Bush got blamed for a bunch of stuff that wasn't his fault, and the rest is history. He might have been a better President if he had a little more Donald Trump in him and fired a person or two. Stood up for George Bush, rather than allow Cheney and gang to run everything.

No President is perfect. They are not meant to be. In today's society, you are not going to see approvals into the 60's anymore. You are lucky to see approvals in the 50s. But you have to separate what's important (such as jobs, trade, and the economy) from what doesn't matter one bit (like Twitter).

That is the difference between you and I on this one, Roger.

I couldn't care less about crowd sizes, twitter, 10 year old crimes, or marriage infidelity. I don't care if he lives up to the liberal standards of political correctness. If fact, I sort of like the fact that he doesn't and shoves it in your face. I really, really, really, really, really, really don't give a bigger flying fuck about Russia and their $100,000 of facebook ads. Oh and if the DNC and John Podesta are dumb enough to get hacked by password reset issues... then that's on them. Not on anyone else.

I care that my job is more secure, that my stocks are doing better, that my sons have a better chance of finding work, and that our country is growing again... after Paul Krugman and gang told us that 1% growth was going to be the new norm.

The two men who beat John McCain in his two presidential campaigns will be at his funeral at the National Cathedral this Saturday. But the woman who joined him on the ticket in 2008, the year he was the Republican nominee for the presidency, will not.

According to multiple reports, Sarah Palin was not invited to McCain’s funeral. “Out of respect to Senator McCain and his family we have nothing to add at this point,” a “Palin family source” told NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell. “The Palin family will always cherish their friendship with the McCains and hold those memories dear.”

The reason for Palin’s snubbing isn’t publicly known, but McCain had, in his last days, begun to come around to the idea that choosing her as his vice-presidential pick in 2008 was a bad idea. Not because she was a substance-free attack dog with a blatant disregard for facts, but because he wishes he would have chosen former senator Joe Lieberman instead.

The good news for Palin is that she wasn’t the only one snubbed from McCain’s service Saturday. President Trump wasn’t invited either.
