NBC Falsely reports!

FBI has not contacted dozens of potential sources in Kavanaugh investigation
More than 40 people with potential information into the sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh have not been contacted by the FBI, according to multiple sources that include friends of both the nominee and his accusers.
The bureau is expected to wrap up its expanded background investigation as early as Wednesday into two allegations against Kavanaugh — one from Christine Blasey Ford and the other from Deborah Ramirez.
But sources close to the investigation, as well as a number of people who know those involved, say the FBI has not contacted dozens of potential corroborators or character witnesses.
Apparently NBC (and presumably others) are upset that the comprehensive list of witnesses provided by the attorneys of the accusers are not all being contacted. They are also upset that certain people are attempting to contact the FBI themselves and were not allowed a proper forum.

Good grief.

The entire point of involving the FBI was to have an third party agency split the difference between what certain GOP Senators would have liked investigated (nothing) and what the Democrats and liberal news media wanted investigated (everything).

What is clear is that the FBI actually did interview anyone who could have possibly corroborated the Christine Ford story. By all accounts they also interviewed anyone who could have possibly corroborated the Deborah Ramirez story. It remains fairly clear that there was nobody able to corroborate the Julie Swetnick story, including Julie Swetnick.

By corroborate, that would mean anyone who was suggested to be there and could provide eye witness testimony.

What the FBI didn't do (and shouldn't be interested in) is interviewing people who learned about these allegations anytime after the turn of the millennium. They were not there and cannot factually provide any information as to what happened in 1982. The other thing that they didn't do was interview anyone who might have had an "opinion" as to what might have happened. There are enough "opinions".

If the FBI were to interview everyone who opined that they believe Kavanaugh could have committed assault, do they then interview the 130 people (from his high school days) who came forward to claim that he could not have done this? How about calling a few hundred character witnesses who would say the same thing (who knows him today).

If you want to compare "opinions" then the nays (he didn't do it) have it over the yays (he did do it) by a pretty substantial margin.

Moreover, the FBI has access to all potential witnesses (including these forty people). They know what they potentially had to provide, possibly even have sworn statements. This was not an issue of not having enough time, or enough resources. This was not an issue of not wanting to do their job.

This is a complete and utter misunderstanding and misrepresentation of what the FBI is supposed to do. They are not journalists looking under every rock in hopes of finding someone willing to tell them a story. They are the Federal Bureau of Investigations, and unlike the media, they have protocol, laws, and common sense to guide them.

More than 40 potential sources have not been contacted by the FBI in Kavanaugh investigation

WASHINGTON — More than 40 people with potential information for the investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh have not been contacted for interviews by the FBI, NBC News has learned.

More than 20 individuals who know either Kavanaugh or Ramirez, who has accused the nominee of exposing himself to her while the two attended Yale University, have not heard from the FBI despite attempts to contact investigators, including Kavanaugh's roommate at the time and a former close Ramirez friend.

Ramirez's attorney, John Clune, tweeted Tuesday that the FBI "is not conducting — or not being permitted to conduct — a serious investigation." Clune added, "we are not aware of the FBI affirmatively reaching out to any of those witnesses."

The supplemental background investigation was reopened in the wake of last week's Senate Judiciary Committee hearings over Ford's accusation.

The White House has said this week that it has authorized the FBI to expand its initially limited investigation into sexual misconduct allegations against Kavanaugh by interviewing anyone it deems necessary as long as the review is finished by the end of the week, NBC News has reported.

Meanwhile, nearly 20 people with potential information about Dr. Ford's allegation that Kavanaugh sexually assaulted her while the two were in high school, including Ford herself, have not been interviewed by federal investigators.

Attorneys for Ford said Tuesday that she had not been interviewed by the FBI. She received "no response" after reaching out again to the bureau, according to a letter from her attorneys.

Her team also submitted a list of nearly 20 people to the FBI to turn to, including the polygraph examiner who interviewed Ford, her therapist and friends she confided in about the allegation. According to people familiar with the names on the list, none of them have yet been interviewed by the FBI.

Julie Swetnick, who has accused Kavanaugh of being at parties where boys took turns having sex with inebriated girls in high school, has not been interviewed by the FBI, according to her attorney, Michael Avenatti.

Kavanaugh has strongly denied all three accusations.

WORTH REPEATING HERE

FBI Not Allowed to Talk to Kavanaugh or Ford

“The FBI hasn’t interviewed Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh or Christine Blasey Ford because it doesn’t have clear authority from the White House to do so,” Bloomberg reports.

“Instead, the White House has INDICATED TO THE FBI that testimony from Kavanaugh and Ford, who has accused him of attempting to rape her when they were in high school, before the Senate Judiciary Committee last week is SUFFICIENT.”
______________

Yet Trump lied that the FBI was free to examine as they saw fit.

hilarious:

Press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders all but confirmed a report Wednesday that the White House is barring the FBI from interviewing Brett Kavanaugh and Christine Blasey Ford as part of its investigation into sexual assault allegations against the beleaguered Supreme Court nominee.

“Both Judge Kavanaugh and Dr. Ford were questioned in the most public way possible by the members of the Senate who are ultimately the ones who have to make the termination on whether or not they vote for Judge Kavanaugh,” Sanders told reporters at her first press briefing in nearly a month, referring to their testimony before the Judiciary Committee last week. “If they had additional questions for either one of them, they had a time and opportunity certainly to ask those.”

Sanders’ non-denial came in response to questions about a Bloomberg News report that the FBI hasn’t interviewed Kavanaugh and Ford in its reopened background probe because the White House didn’t give the bureau proper authority to do so.

So James...

This FBI update is done for the Senator's benefit. Not yours.

The Senate has spent almost 40 hours talking to Kavanaugh, and spent several hours talking to Ford.

Why would they need the FBI to talk to them again.

I think you are missing the entire point here. This is the Senate asking the FBI for help. This is not a law enforcement investigation where the FBI can go get warrants and demand to talk to people.

The FBI "not being allowed" assumes that the FBI has an agenda above and beyond helping the Senate with a background check.

The FBI has no agenda here, other than to provide the Senate with the additional information (which would be to interview other witnesses that have not previously been interviewed)

C.H. Truth said...

Oh Wait...

What you are saying here James, is that the FBI is not really an objective organization taking cues from the Senate for this requested background check.

What you are saying is that they have some interest in bringing down Kavanaugh and are "not being allowed" to do so?

Just curious...
