CBO scare tactic on Obamacare Individual mandate

turned out to be as wrong as critics suggested

This seems to be a recurring theme with the CBO. The CBO is tasked to provide insight for Congress, but time and time again these reports sounds more like a Democrat talking point than objective analysis. Whether it be the underlying assumption that tax cuts never produce any economic stimulus, or the assumption that government spending will always provide a multi-layered multiplier for how much economic impact government spending produces.

But never has the CBO been more wrong than dealing with their analysis of the Affordable Health Care Act.  The fact that you can task the CBO with predicting how many people would be signing up is bad enough. The fact that you continue to task them with this job, after being dead wrong over and over just rubs salt in the wound.

But one of the most blatant so called analysis was the CBO doomsday predictions about how many people would lose coverage if we repealed Obamacare. Now these numbers were generally bundled together (likely for purposes of political gaslighting) but were almost exclusively driven by their prediction of a mass exodus of people who would stop buying coverage if the individual mandate was repealed.

The analysis was so ridiculous that the CBO actually predicted that millions of Americans would opt out of free insurance like Medicaid if not for the mandate to have insurance. The final tally put forth by the CBO was that if we repealed the Individual mandate that 14 million Americans would "lose insurance" by the end of 2018. Losing insurance, of course, meant that people would choose not to purchase it.

So where are we at? According to the Health and Human Services, there are approximately 2.5 million people who ACTUALLY dropped their insurance in the aftermath of repealing the individual mandate. That falls far short of the 14 million predicted. Moreover, the HHS is predicting very little impact moving forward, whereas the CBO continued to believe that people would either drop or opt out of insurance year after year.

It would appear that the CBO overestated this number by a cool 560%.

Where else (other than the Government) can you continue to be this wrong? Where else (other than the Democratic Party) will you see people rushing again and again to defend an organization that is wrong more often than they are right.

Time to disband the CBO once and for all and actually create a non-political organization with people who are professional, objective, non-political, and ultimately accountable for errors.

i wonder how much of this is sheer incompetence and/or political hackery coming out of the CBO, vs. the very real possibility that the data they're being provided by CMS is complete and total garbage.

just a thought.

cali is our health insurance sage. i'm sure he can provide a definitive perspective on this.

You better eliminate the IRS because they are reporting bad news for millions of middle class Americans.

The average refund through Feb. 15 was $2,640, which is 16.7 percent smaller than the average refund through Feb. 16, 2018, according to the IRS data.

The administration said that timing issues were a factor in the difference between the refund sizes.

Friday's release was the third such publication of weekly tax-filing data. Every batch of weekly filing data the IRS has released so far has shown smaller average refunds compared to 2018.

Treasury has cautioned that the early filing season data shouldn't be given too much weight. Still, a senior Treasury official said earlier this month that the administration expects average refunds to be slightly smaller overall in 2019 than they were in 2018.

Democrats have seized on the early filing-season data, saying that it's proof that the GOP tax law was a "scam" that mainly benefits the wealthy and corporations.

But the Trump administration and GOP lawmakers have stressed that most people are getting a tax cut, even if their refund is smaller.

"The size of someone’s tax refund says nothing about whether their taxes have gone up or down," the Treasury spokesperson said. "As we have said, most people are seeing the benefits of the tax cut in larger paychecks throughout the year, instead of tax refunds that are the result of people overpaying the government."

Wages have not increased sufficiently yet to cover the costs of the lower tax refunds.

President Trump, who has made combatting election fraud one of his signature issues, didn’t want to discuss the most egregious example in recent American history, the documented instances of ballot tampering that on Thursday led North Carolina officials to invalidate the results of the 2018 election to Congress from the Ninth District.

“I condemn any election fraud,” said Trump, speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, where he was asked about the North Carolina case, in which operatives for the Republican candidate illegally collected and altered or destroyed absentee ballots.

But Trump quickly turned to discussing unproven allegations of voting irregularities that hurt Republicans. “When I look at what’s happened in California in the votes, there was just a case of where they found a million fraudulent votes…”

Trump and his administration have pushed the conspiracy theory that there were millions of illegal votes in California to explain why he lost the national popular vote to Hillary Clinton in 2016. Republicans have raised suspicions about the results of the 2018 midterms, when election-night leads by some GOP candidates evaporated after additional ballots were counted. There is no evidence historically to support Trump’s assertion, and multiple studies have found instances of voting fraud to be vanishingly small. A comprehensive 2014 report examining years of elections turned up

Thanks Mr. MAGA.

In 2018, at least 40 people in the U.S. and Canada were killed by individuals who were either motivated by or attracted to far-right ideologies.

That included the shooting in Parkland, Florida; the van attack in Toronto; the massacre at Tree of Life synagogue in Pittsburgh, and a brutal stabbing outside a Pittsburgh nightspot.

We enumerated those attacks and others in the Spring issue of the Intelligence Report in a piece called “The ‘Alt-Right’ Is Still Killing People.”

“That 2018 became the deadliest yet confirms the danger posed by alt-right propaganda and its widespread circulation enabled by social media platforms,” the article explains.

40 murders huh?

That's about 0.2% of our murders

Considering you believe that about 44% of Americans are racists because they approve of Trump... 0.2% is a pretty small number.

You should probably compare that 0.2% with the fact that 12% of all murder sentences went to people who are illegal immigrants?

Since you are math challenged, I will add it up for you.

That's approximately sixty murders by illegal aliens for every one of those murders you claim were hate crimes from the right.

Add to it that these illegals make up only 3.5% of the population but are sentenced in 12% of the murders...

And Trump fascists make up 44% of the population but only commit 0.2% of the murders...

That would mean that illegals are approximately 750 times more likely to commit a murder than a Trump lover would be to commit one of those 40 hate murders?

How can you live with yourself Roger?

Supporting that sort of murder, while condemning 40 murders... all in the name of mindless politics?

You should be ashamed, if you had the ability!

After years of smearing good people with false charges of bigotry, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) has finally been held to account. A former Islamic radical named Maajid Nawaz sued the center for including him in its bogus “Field Guide to Anti-Muslim Extremists,” and this week the SPLC agreed to pay him a $3.375 million settlement and issued a public apology.

The SPLC is a once-storied organization that did important work filing civil rights lawsuits against the Ku Klux Klan in the 1970s. But it has become a caricature of itself, labeling virtually anyone who does not fall in line with its left-wing ideology an “extremist” or “hate group.”

Nawaz is a case in point. Since abandoning Islamic radicalism, he has advised three British prime ministers and created the Quilliam Foundation, to fight extremism. He is not anti-Muslim. He is a Muslim and has argued that “Islam is a religion of peace.”

So how did he end up in the SPLC’s pseudo-guide to anti-Muslim bigots? His crime, apparently, is that he has become a leading critic of the radical Islamist ideology he once embraced. Thanks to his courage, the SPLC has been forced to pay a multimillion-dollar penalty and acknowledge in a statement that it was “wrong” and that Nawaz has “made valuable and important contributions to public discourse, including by promoting pluralism and condemning both anti-Muslim bigotry and Islamist extremism.”

Let’s hope this settlement is the first of many, because this is not the first time the SPLC has done this. In 2010, it placed the Family Research Council (FRC) — a conservative Christian advocacy group that opposes abortion and same-sex marriage — on its “hate map.” Two years later, a gunman walked into the FRC headquarters with the intention to “kill as many as possible and smear the Chick-fil-A sandwiches in victims’ faces.” He told the FBI that he had used the SPLC website to pick his target.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/the-southern-poverty-law-center-has-lost-all-credibility/2018/06/21/22ab7d60-756d-11e8-9780-b1dd6a09b549_story.html?noredirect=on&utm_term=.652df75b1f0c

even honest brokers on the left, of which there still are many, reject the SPLC.

their credibility is less than zero. so i comes as no surprise that the alky is waving their flag.

ee that speck there?” retired Lt. Gen. William G. “Jerry” Boykin says, directing my gaze to the ceiling of the Family Research Council’s lobby in Washington. I spy a belly-button-size opening in the plaster. “That’s a bullet hole.”

The blemish has been preserved for six years. “See that?” he asks, now indicating a cratered fire alarm panel near the reception desk. “That’s a bullet hole. That’s the first round. The second went through the arm of the building manager. The third round hit the ceiling. … Fired on August 15th, 2012, by Floyd Lee Corkins.”

The hero of that day was the building manager, Leo Johnson, who tackled Corkins and was shot in the arm as they scuffled. Asked by an FBI agent how he came to single out the FRC, Corkins replied: “Southern Poverty Law lists anti-gay groups.” The gunman, who was found to be mentally ill, was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

“He came in here to kill as many of us as possible because he found us listed as a hate group on the Southern Poverty Law Center website,” continues Boykin, FRC’s executive vice president, who is dressed today in a leather vest over a shirt and tie. “We and others like us who are on this ‘hate map’ believe that this is very reckless behavior. … The only thing that we have in common is that we are all conservative organizations. … You know, it would be okay if they just criticized us. … If they wrote op-eds about us and all that. But listing us as a hate group is just a step too far because they put us in the same category as the Ku Klux Klan. And who are they to have a hate-group list anyhow?”

Actually Roger...

I condemn all murders and believe we should do whatever is necessary to prevent them. I condemn the 40 murders that you speak of, the 2000+ committed by illegal aliens, as well as the other 15,000 committed by a whole bunch of other people.

I have no problem shipping anyone who murders due to hate right straight down to death row. I also have no problem trying to PREVENT as many murders as we can.

Putting an end to our outlandish open border policy that allows MS13 gang members and other border bandits to cross over into our country and kill people is something I believe strongly in.

I would look the parents of the murder victims in the eye and tell them so.

On the flip side, you would flip them the bird and tell them to suck it up, butter cup... because open borders is a good liberal thing!

You'd tell them that their son or daughter killed by an illegal criminal is just collateral damage in the larger liberal war.

But the reality here Rog, is that 40 murders is a drop in the bucket. If you cannot get riled up over 2000 murders a year (committed by illegals) then how is it that these particular 40 murders gets under your skin?

Just looking for a little consistency from you Rog. That's all.
