It pays to be on the winning side

SUSAN COLLINS SET A PERSONAL FUNDRAISING RECORD AFTER HER PIVOTAL VOTE FOR KAVANAUGH
GOP Sen. Susan Collins of Maine set a personal fundraising record after casting the decisive vote to confirm Justice Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court in October 2018. The Maine Republican will stand for re-election in 2020. Democrats hope that race will be one of the marquee contests of the cycle.
Collins raised $1.8 million in the closing months of 2018 — most of which came from out-of-state donors — an improvement on her prior personal record of $1.2 million in the second quarter of 2007.
Collins won her past election by 37 points back in 2014. Maine is also trending red in recent times. Trump only lost the state by 3 points in 2016. This was originally thought to be a pretty big target for the Democrats, but perhaps they misread the tea leafs on this one.

I think the idea was to put enough pressure on Collins to have her decide not to run, which would make this a big pick up opportunity? Otherwise, Collins is pretty popular as an independent voice in Maine, and she will likely start off as a very strong favorite.

Very sad how the alleged holy rollers here who constantly lie about infanticide and women both embrace the Party of Lincoln with its current history of abject racism by defending these assholes, the KKK and other extremists that vote R

took almost 16 years for House Republicans to reprimand Steve King of Iowa for his frequent expressions of explicit racism, by stripping him of his committee assignments. The catalyst? An interview with The New York Times in which he expressed sympathy with racist ideas. “White nationalist, white supremacist, Western civilization — how did that language become offensive?” King said.

Compare that slow-moving response with the quick dismissal of Michael Ertel, the Republican secretary of state in Florida, who resigned the same day that photos of him in blackface were revealed to the public. Taken at a Halloween party in 2005, they show Ertel with a painted face and a costume that make clear he was mocking survivors of Hurricane Katrina.

The reaction after the discovery of a racist image on the medical school yearbook page of Ralph Northam, the governor of Virginia, has been almost as swift. As the world now knows, the photo, taken at a party in 1984, shows one person in blackface and another dressed as a member of the Ku Klux Klan, both holding beers and gazing at the camera. Northam initially said he was in the photo, although he couldn’t say which figure he was. He later backtracked, claiming he wasn’t in it and vowing to finish his term.

Nothing to worry about.....yet.....

Whether they're in your teeth or in an Antarctic glacier, cavities are a bad sign.

The Thwaites Glacier in West Antarctica has developed a cavity roughly two-thirds the size of Manhattan and about 1,000 feet tall, according to a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory study published Thursday. This empty space has the negative effect of speeding up the rate at which the glacier melts and, in turn, how quickly sea levels rise.

SEE ALSO: Climate change made these 17 extreme weather events radically worse
An investigation by the New York Times from 2017 looked at the Thwaites Glacier, which is roughly the size of Florida, and how much ice it's regularly shedding and feeding into the sea. The problem with this glacier is that it's shedding a lot and accounts for about 4 percent of total sea level increase around the world according to NASA.

The newly discovered cavity previously contained 14 billion tons of ice, which is now water, and it means that the Thwaites Glacier is melting faster than anyone thought. If the whole glacier melts, it would raise the sea level by more than two feet.

In 2018, a report from over 40 earth sciences agencies looking at ice loss in Antarctica found that the continent has lost three trillion tons of ice over 25 years, primarily from West Antarctica. This has had a dramatic effect on the sea level, which has risen 7 and a half millimeters from the continent alone.

Again, those with their heads stuck up trumps ass, have nothing to worry about....!!!

The icy peaks of the Himalayas are under threat from climate change caused by human action – and two-thirds of Himalayan glaciers could melt.

If global warming continues, the melt would disrupt water supplies for billions of people, as the mountains transform into bare rock by 2100.

The region is known as the world’s ‘Third Pole’, and is home to Everest and K2.

Even if the world succeeds in cutting carbon emissions, a third of the glaciers will still melt, rising to two-thirds if we continue as we are.

Even if Paris climate agreement goals are met, scientists say the Himalayas are set to lose more than 30 percent of their glaciers by 2100.
Floods from the melting glacial ice could also disrupt crops along rivers such as the Ganges and the Indus, the researchers warn.

Philippus Wester, a scientist with the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development said, ‘This is the climate crisis you haven’t heard of.

‘Global warming is on track to transform the frigid, glacier-covered mountain peaks … to bare rocks in a little less than a century.

Anyone who defends black face as an innocent endeavor and everybody did it should read this....

The most popular form of entertainment in 19th-century America, which continued well into the 20th, blackface minstrelsy was defined by its caricature of and gross hostility toward black Americans. In the minstrel show, blacks — and free blacks in particular — were objects of ridicule, lampooned for seeking equality and respectability. Beyond simple mockery, the pleasure of blackface for white performers and their audiences lay in the vicarious experience of an imagined blackness — a wild, preindustrial “savage” nature that whites attributed to black Americans.

“Painting oneself hearkened back to traditional popular celebrations and to paint oneself as a Black person, given American realities at the time, was to throw reason to the winds,” the historian David Roediger wrote in his 1991 book, “The Wages of Whiteness: Race and the Making of the American Working Class.” He notes later that blackface was a form that “implicitly rested on the idea that Black culture and Black people existed only insofar as they were edifying for whites and that claims to ‘authentic’ blackness could be put on and washed off at will.”

In other words, blackface is so thoroughly associated with the worst of American racism that we should expect immediate condemnation of politicians and public figures who have any association with it, even if it’s a decades-old offense.

dr. cray cray's legal team just picked up a new client...

According to an early Tuesday morning NPR report, the woman who accused Virginia’s Democratic Lieutenant Governor of sexual assault has retained legal counsel, and is considering “next steps.”

“NEWS: A California woman accusing Virginia Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax of sexual assault has hired Christine Blasey Ford’s legal team – Katz, Marshall and Banks – and is consulting with them about next steps, according to a source close to the legal team,” said NPR correspondent Sarah McCammon.

And now Mary Poppins is racist

“Mary Poppins Returns,” which picked up four Oscar nominations last week, is an enjoyably derivative film that seeks to inspire our nostalgia for the innocent fantasies of childhood, as well as the jolly holidays that the first “Mary Poppins” film conjured for many adult viewers.

Part of the new film’s nostalgia, however, is bound up in a blackface performance tradition that persists throughout the Mary Poppins canon, from P. L. Travers’s books to Disney’s 1964 adaptation, with disturbing echoes in the studio’s newest take on the material, “Mary Poppins Returns.”

One of the more indelible images from the 1964 film is of Mary Poppins blacking up. When the magical nanny (played by Julie Andrews) accompanies her young charges, Michael and Jane Banks, up their chimney, her face gets covered in soot, but instead of wiping it off, she gamely powders her nose and cheeks even blacker. Then she leads the children on a dancing exploration of London rooftops with Dick Van Dyke’s sooty chimney sweep, Bert.

yup. and jussie what's his name might've been attacked but probably wasn't, and some ms-13 scumbag shot a guy in the face and killed him ON CAMERA at a NYC subway stop, but ms-13 is not a problem.

what a fucking stupid time to be alive.

if we can only figure out a way to get ms-13 to kill babies born alive we can close this loop and get everything to work out.
