So for a reduction of his jail time, Michael Cohen has suggested he has proof regarding Moscow Trump Tower "collusion" and evidence that Trump told him to lie about it. Cohen has stated under oath (at least twice now) that he was not directed by Trump to lie. He has continually offered that this order was implied.
Oddly, nobody else (Donald Jr or the President himself) lied to authorities about the Moscow project. Donald Jr stated under oath that the project when on well into 2016 and the same question was given to the President (in writing).
Cohen's evidence is said to be found in a secret code that he has recently uncovered. The logical disconnect is that if he just figured out the secret code "recently" - then how was it that he can claim to be told to lie back then? Wouldn't he have had to have broken the secret code back then?
But the strangest thing about this is if Cohen really had evidence of his innocence, he could bring that to authorities. But instead, he is offering it to Congressional Democrats who have no authority under any laws to reduce his sentence. This seems little more than a blatant political act by a desperate man who finds himself without many friends.

Cummings is now investigating why Fox News did not publish a story in October 2016 about an alleged 2005 affair between then-candidate Donald Trump and porn star Stormy Daniels.
According to former Fox News editor Ken LaCorte, the story, filed by celebrity reporter Diana Falzone, was “half-cooked.” The nine-paragraph piece she filed was based on an item that had appeared online briefly in 2011, before being pulled under legal threat, on a website that publishes reader-contributed rumors. Given that Daniels had publicly denied any affair with Trump at that point, LaCorte decided that the story needed more confirmation than the anonymous second-hand and third-hand sources that Falzone had dug up.
“The story wasn’t close to being publishable,” LaCorte recently wrote for Mediaite, “and my decision to hold it was a no-brainer. I didn’t do it to help Trump and never said nor implied otherwise. It was such an easy call that I never even informed my direct boss or anyone in management about it.”
Cummings now believes he should be using his congressional powers to second-guess a news editor’s judgment. He is summoning journalists to be interviewed by his committee staff. (Perhaps soon he will follow up by proposing a bill requiring more salacious news coverage in general.)

The house of Representatives has the authority to get the tax returns from the President or anyone else.
Section 6103(f)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) reads:
Upon written request from the chairman of the Committee on Ways and Means of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Committee on Finance of the Senate, or the chairman of the Joint Committee on Taxation, the Secretary [of the Treasury] shall furnish such committee with any return or return information specified in such request, except that any return or return information which can be associated with, or otherwise identify, directly or indirectly, a particular taxpayer shall be furnished to such committee only when sitting in closed executive session unless such taxpayer otherwise consents in writing to such disclosure.4
In short: The Treasury Secretary, which, for practical purposes, means the IRS as the relevant agency within the Treasury Department, “shall furnish” each of the tax committees with “any return or return information” requested in writing by its chairman. “Return information” includes related information such as the status of any IRS audits and the files containing documents produced in the process of audits.5 As law scholar Harry Litman explains, the term “shall” means exactly what it says: “The language [‘shall’] is the well-established norm, across a range of legal settings, used to denote an absence of discretion on an official’s part. It leaves no room for quibbles.”6 As Litman notes, Congress’ power to obtain tax returns parallels prosecutors’ ability to inspect tax records upon an ex parte order from a court, derived from Section 6103(i). A "closed executive session" requires it to be done confidentially and those who attend the "closed executive session" are not allowed to disclose any of the information that they got.

First. His lawyer has already contested the request. It could well end up in the Supreme Court. He will, in my opinion, that the IRS will be compelled to provide the tax returns to the house committee.

Remember that during the campaign, he repeatedly said that he would provide his tax returns. You of course will agree with the President if he declines to consent to reveal his taxes to the public.
