Oh, btw... there was a Democratic Debate last night!

  • Beto O'Rourke won by his own accounts. Said he gave himself  an A+ and was compared to Obama.
  • Liz Warren was dynamic, Presidential, and also won the night.
  • Cory Booker was the second coming of MLK and his debate performance will likely make him the favorite
  • Amy Klobuchar was Amy Klobuchar.
  • Julian Castro hit a single, double, triple and home run or he hit into a double play. Not sure.
  • And the rest... they were all awesome! Everyone one improved their chances, and likely the whole field will now be in double digits (even though it's mathematically impossible.
Seriously, I couldn't have cared less. But by all accounts O'Rourke and Warren were bad, Booker was good and pretty much everyone else was forgettable.

I was out last night with my wife having a nice dinner in Capitol Hill. But then again, pretty much any other activity would have taken precedence over that fiasco!

Who won by "your" account.

Experts Agree Loser Of First Dem Debate Was America

MIAMI, FL—Experts around the country and numerous poll results revealed Wednesday evening that the decisive loser in the Democratic debate was the American people.

A poll found that an overwhelming majority of respondents believed that America lost the debates by a wide margin, with 5% of Americans believing Americans won last night and a whopping 62% stating that "oh my gosh America is doomed." 33% elected to turn off the TV and just watch neighborhood cats fight instead of watching the debate once it became clear that America was going to get decimated.

"America really needed a win out there tonight, but only fell further behind," said one commentator, adding that he didn't have "high hopes" for the country's chances moving forward. "Things are not looking good for America's prospects in the 2020 campaign at this point. If America doesn't pull out a win tonight, we can only expect America to drop out of the race entirely."

"It's not looking good. Honestly, I don't know if I can watch."

Julian Castro stole the show.

Elizabeth Warren was the most clear on her agenda as President.

Your Senator Klobuchar stood out with her description of why she should be President.

Castro stole the show so much that he's out today clarifying that he did not advocate for open borders. Lol. He shit the bed up there.

Gabbard and Ryan distinguished themselves as the moderate options to Biden.

The debate was a fiasco. Chuck Todd spoke more than 7 of the 10 candidates. Maddow was her usual self, which doesn't work as a newsworthy debate moderator. Then there was the technical problem.

“Watching that image of Oscar and his daughter Valeria was heartbreaking,” said former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro. “It should also piss us all off.”

The former San Antonio mayor was unequivocal that Trump administration policy forcing asylum-seekers to wait on the Mexican side of the border for weeks, even months, resulted in these horrific deaths. “This metering policy is what basically prompted Oscar and Valeria to make that risky swim across the river,” he said. “Oscar and Valeria went to a port of entry, and then they were denied an ability to make an asylum claim. So they got frustrated, and they tried to cross the river, and they died because of that.”

He didn't support open borders.

They died there, not in the USA.

Oh and will he also look in horror of others that drown in Mexico?

The daddy that led his child to her death had not filed with the US for Asylum.

Why doesn't Mexico take care of them? After all, they could stop them at the Southern Border if they so chose to do so? The fact that they let them into their country, knowing full well that many of them are not going to garner asylum in our country... is sort of "their" responsibility.

Not ours.

There are probably a billion people on this planet who would move to the U.S. in a heartbeat. What responsibility does the United States owe to those who "want" to move here, but otherwise have no real claim to do so?

Trump offered to ship them to Sanctuary cities... and they all said no. So once again, liberals want to complain, but they don't have a practical solution.

AP: The Father And Daughter Who Drowned Crossing The Rio Grande Were Economic Migrants Who Planned To Claim Asylum

Having an economic motive for migrating to the US doesn’t make the death of a father and his young daughter any less tragic. But it does highlight an aspect of what is happening at the border that Democrats and the media have often seemed eager to ignore (the AP seems to be whitewashing it even now).

Central Americans who want a better life in America are gaming our immigration system by the thousands every day, completely overwhelming the system. Claims of asylum do not extend to economic migrants, but these migrants have learned that if they cross the border and then turn themselves into Border Patrol and make an asylum claim, they won’t be deported. It’s a quick shortcut to get into the country and then get released. And that’s especially true if you’re traveling with a child.

And from what we know, it appears that’s exactly what Oscar and his family were doing. They were economic migrants who considered claiming asylum at a port of entry even though they had no real grounds for making such a claim. When that approach appeared to take too long, they tried to cross the river. Presumably, if they had all made it and were caught on the US side, they would have claimed asylum as they initially intended.

But the asylum process was not intended to apply to thousands of people per day who are, in fact, economic migrants. We don’t have enough Border Patrol agents to give “credible fear” interviews to all of these people and we definitely don’t have enough immigration judges to hear all of these cases in a timely manner. Most of these economic migrants will have their cases denied and many (at least 1/3 but possibly more) will have an adverse decision made in absentia because they won’t even show up for their hearing. In theory, they will be liable for deportation at that point but in practice, Democrats will scream about injustice whenever ICE tries to remove anyone for deportation who isn’t caught at the border.

What motivated Oscar and his family was the belief that he could have a better life in the US and that if he a) made it across the border unnoticed or b) got caught but made a bogus claim for asylum, he’d never have to leave the US. That’s not how our immigration system is supposed to work. Unfortunately, that’s how it does work at present and that loophole is leading tens of thousands of people to risk their lives and that of their children on a long and perilous journey to the United States.

Their deaths are solely the responsibility of the Democrats in Congress who fail to address these loopholes in the immigration laws.

we have zero responsibility and zero obligation. shove your fucking sob story up your third world ass....

...the DEMOCRATS on the other hand...

they're so desperate for votes my senate and assembly tried to slip automatic voter registration into their 'licenses for illegal beaners bill.'

and they got caught, calling it a typo. a typo that never in a million fucking years would have happened if there was even the slightest chance those beans vote GOP.

so let me meet the alky halfway on this topic -

i propose we round up every fucking illegal beaner in the nation. every fucking one. and we ship them ALL to california. sir gavin the fucktard would gladly take them. housing would not be a problem. homelessness is now a thing in CA. let em pitch a tent. sanitation? also no problem. shitting in the street is also now a thing.

and as we build the wall west towards the pacific, it takes a hard right turn up the eastern border of california.

you want 'em alky, you got 'em. and when they're not harvesting lettuce full of e-coli they can harvest ballots on election day tainted with typhus.

there you go. there's my compromise.

"The House cleared a $4.6 billion emergency aid package Thursday to address the humanitarian crisis at the southern border, sending the bill to President Donald Trump for his signature after Speaker Nancy Pelosi bowed to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.

The 305-102 vote in favor of the legislation came after Pelosi fought Republicans and members of her own caucus to push for additional language to protect migrant children as part of the package, but then was forced to take up the Senate bill, which didn't include such restrictions."

The Democratic candidates have to address this issue.

Sanders said that he supports Medicaid for everyone. Including those who get their insurance coverage from their employers. I don't think that the Democrats can go along this path.

Trump and people like you are going to scream, Socialism . It's very popular among Democrats. But despite the numbers, it's not something that the Democratic candidate will be called a Socialist. The costs are huge. It might take some of the defense budget. To pay for it will take a tax increase on the top one percent.

I actually support this, but I think that Trump would win if the Democrats go that far left.

Unless there is a candidate who can cause a sea change in American politics.

That's why there debates matter. Is there a next generation Reagan or FDR?

Kamala Harris breaks out

MIAMI — For the first half of Thursday’s presidential debate, Joe Biden looked as if he would somehow be able to stand at center stage yet not be the center of the bullseye of other candidates’ attacks.

California Sen. Kamala Harris changed that, taking Biden to task for his opposition to busing and his working relationships decades ago as a U.S. senator.

The testy exchange, during which both raised their voices, highlighted a racial as well as a generational divide between the two candidates and solidified Harris as the buzziest candidate onstage. Earlier, she was the voice of reason when she quieted squabbling colleagues.

“Guys, you know what? America does not want to witness a food fight,” Harris said. “They wanna know how we’re gonna put food on their table.”

The debate hall erupted in applause.

Couple of things about Harris's busing story.

1. Berkeley voluntarily integrated their schools in 1968 when Harris was 4 years old. Her mother was a scientist researching breast cancer and her father was an economics professor at UC Berkeley.

Although her biography does specific which primary school she attended, she was a child of privileged parents so it is reasonable to assume she attended a private school.

2. At age 12 her parents divorced and she move to Quebec, Canada. So there was not way she was "bus" during her high school years.
