Debate two

This looks much like the last debate, only one of the frontrunners (Biden) is actually part of what one pundit described as "the white guy crowd who sounds Republican". Last night it was Delany, Ryan, Hickenlooper who fell into that category, while tonight it is Biden and Bennet (with one t).

But basically it's the high flying liberals who stress things have to be bold vs the more pragmatic Democrats who want to be more realistic. Then there are the court jesters. Last night you had a kooky book author who wants everyone to join a yoga class, tonight you have a goofy guy who wants to give everyone a $1000.00 a month (where do I sign up?).

Who's winning?

There is a difference if you watch the passion of someone like Harris (who continues to finish her points over the moderator calling for time) vs Biden who stops at the end of his time like he has been chastised for talking too loud in church. The "bold" liberals are getting the louder response from the audience, while the pragmatics are making points that garner polite applause.

That being said, Biden said the word "malarkey" which scored him lots of style points with the senior citizen crowd. Moreover, Biden sounds "more" like someone I would vote for, which unfortunately for Biden means that he probably isn't making much sense to most of the Democratic primary voters.

The losers so far are those being left out. I am not surprised that Yang, Inslee, Gabbart and Gillibrand are not getting much time. But Cory Booker being left out of the mix is sort of surprising. Meanwhile Bennet is getting tons of talking time for someone in his position. Not sure if it's helping or hurting, but nobody will be able to say he wasn't given a chance.

But Harris so far is dominant in time (for a ten way field), with Biden a close second. Those two keep sparing back and forth and I would guess that whichever one you favored coming in is probably the one you see winning those exchanges.
_______

Seriously? More about bussing and Eric Garner? Eric Garner died in 2014 and a grand jury refused to bring any indictments against the police involved... way back in 2014.  Funny how they all point their fingers at each other as well as at Donald Trump (who apparently had some odd control over the Justice Department before he was President).  The idea that a different President would simply order the Justice Department (seven years later) to bring Federal charges against a police officer who a NY grand jury failed to indict is the "very" misuse of the legal system that many on the left accuse Trump of doing. Oh, and let's be fair. It wasn't a federal crime, and it's not going to be revisited. Why are they talking about it?

Oh and btw... Biden has been running out of steam slowly but surely while those around him are getting stronger. He's become the weak jr high kid being picked on by all the bullies.

_______

Booker got a lot more time during the second half of the debate, and Harris sort of fell off. Biden (largely because he was constantly being attacked ended the night with the most time on the microphone).  Bennet, Wang, Castro, De Blasio, Gabert, and Inslee ended up at the bottom of the barrel.

Biden was mediocre at best. He failed finish many thoughts (in some cases he almost seem to welcome the time coming to a close to make it seem like was forced into stopping short of making a point). Harris had a tougher time tonight, as she was attacked as much as she was the attacker. Cory Booker "might" have bumped himself up into the mix. I guess plenty were impressed with Castro, but time will see if he can make it out from the bottom of the barrel polling wise.

Perhaps the biggest winner of the second debate was those from the first debate (Warren and Sanders), and quite frankly the winner of it all might be Trump, who sat back while these Democrats spent more time attacking each other (and at times Obama) than the President himself.

I would think we will see some people drop out, but then again.... it's so much more fun to have twenty plus candidates than six or seven!

That is America in 2019.

Political discourse nowadays is enough to depress anyone, and the media don’t help by ignoring good economic news. But buck up, Americans: Worker wages are growing much faster than previously reported.

The Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA) on Tuesday published its annual revisions to personal income data, and the surprise was the huge jump in disposable income and employee compensation.

The revisions show that employee compensation rose 4.5% in 2017 and 5% in 2018—some $4.4 billion and $87.1 billion more than previously reported. The trend has continued into 2019, with compensation increasing $378 billion or 3.4% in the first six months alone. Wages and salaries were revised upward to 5.3% from 3.6% in May year over year. And in June wages and salaries grew at an annual rate of 5.5%, which is a rocking 4.1% after adjusting for inflation. . . .

The BEA also revised overall personal income up by 1.7% for 2017 and 2018 and transfer receipts down 0.7%. In sum, Americans are earning more and relying less on government. Personal savings estimates were also increased by $217 billion for the last two years and are now $1.3 trillion, which means Americans are socking away more of their earnings.

The personal savings rate was revised upward to 8.1% from 6.1% in May, which is much higher than the roughly 5% before the last two recessions. This should make the current economic expansion more durable since consumption isn’t being pumped up largely by increased household debt. Instead consumer spending has increased as wage growth has accelerated amid a tight labor market.

Recall how liberals blamed “secular stagnation” as the reason worker incomes weren’t growing faster during the latter years of Barack Obama’s Presidency. Yet employee compensation has increased by $150 billion more in the first six months of 2019 than all of 2016. Compensation increased 42% more during the first two years of the Trump Presidency than in 2015 and 2016. This refutes the claim by liberals that the economy has merely continued on the same trajectory since 2017 as it was before.

The economy barely skirted recession in the final Obama years, and economic policy changed in 2017. Deregulation has unleashed repressed animal spirits, especially in energy. Tax reform has also spurred business investment in new facilities and equipment, which over time should translate into higher worker productivity and wages.

https://www.wsj.com/articles/the-99-get-a-bigger-raise-11564529382

and in the face of this great economic news, democrats LIE to us, tell us the economy sucks, and our only path to prosperity is to become enslaved to them in exchange for an avalanche of free shit.

oh, and a swarm of illegal beaners because votes.

More fake data pertinent to the show last night

https://www.washingtonpost.com/weather/2019/07/31/greenland-ice-sheet-is-throes-one-its-greatest-melting-events-ever-recorded/?utm_term=.0093303f5a47

The same heat dome that roasted Europe and broke national temperature records in five countries last week has shifted to Greenland, where it is causing one of the biggest melt events ever observed on the fragile ice sheet.

By some measures, the ice melt is more extreme than during a benchmark record event in July 2012, according to scientists analyzing the latest data. During that event, about 98 percent of the ice sheet experienced some surface melting, speeding up the process of shedding ice into the ocean.

The fate of Greenland’s ice sheet is of critical importance to every coastal resident in the world, since Greenland is already the biggest contributor to modern-day sea level rise. The pace and extent of Greenland ice melt will help determine how high sea levels climb and how quickly.

As a result of both surface melting and a lack of snow on the ice sheet this summer, “this is the year Greenland is contributing most to sea level rise,” said Marco Tedesco, a climate scientist at Columbia University.

To illustrate the magnitude of ice contained in Greenland, consider that if the entire ice sheet were to melt, it would raise sea levels by 23 feet. Scientists are using aircraft, field research, satellites and other tools to improve their understanding of how quickly ice is being lost.

Jason Box, a climate scientist who studies Greenland’s ice sheet, examined recent field data from two locations on the ice sheet, both of which showed more ice loss so far during this event than in 2012.

At one location, 75 miles east of Nuuk, Greenland’s capital, the equivalent of 8.33 feet of water (2.54 meters) had melted as of July 31, slightly exceeding the value of 8.27 feet (2.52 meters) from 2012.

By Eli Rosenberg July 31 at 3:19 PM
Rep. Denver Riggleman has tallied a complicated record on LGBT rights in his brief stint in Congress.

Riggleman (R-Va.), elected in 2018, opposed the Equality Act, which would have banned discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. And he voted against a resolution opposing President Trump’s ban on transgender service members.

Still, he says he is a supporter of the right of gay people to marry, and he put actions behind his words when he officiated a same-sex wedding in his district this month.

But that did not sit well with members of his party who sought to formally rebuke him this weekend.

The Cumberland County Republican Committee unanimously passed a motion of no confidence in Riggleman on Monday because of his role at the wedding. It also attributed the measure to Riggleman’s not being “tough” enough on “border security and immigration measures.”

The committee attempted but failed to censure him Saturday for similar reasons, the Roanoke Times reported.

[Conservative GOP congressman presides at same-sex wedding in Virginia]

Diana Shores, chairwoman of the committee, declined to comment, pointing to statements she had previously given to reporters. She told NBC News in a statement that Riggleman’s choice to officiate the wedding “contradicted his promises to represent the district.”

“Mr. Riggleman, who claims to want government out of marriage, acted as an elected official to perform a marriage,” she said. “Then, he made it clear in the communications that followed to the leadership of the district that he didn’t care what we thought about the actions. Each district committee can decide if they have further confidence in Congressman Riggleman representing their values. As for me, he doesn’t represent mine.”

Rep. Denver Riggleman (R-Va.), center, officiates at the wedding of Alex Pisciarino, left, and Anthony LeCounte in Crozet, Va., on July 14. (Christine Riggleman)
Riggleman, a former Air Force intelligence officer and distillery owner with a libertarian streak, did the honors for Anthony LeCounte and Alex Pisciarino, former campaign volunteers, in July at a vineyard in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

"My real belief is that government shouldn’t be involved in marriage at all, but if it is, everybody has to be treated equally before the law,” he told The Washington Post this month. “And that is part of our Republican creed. And it also comes down to love is love. I’m happy to join two people together who obviously love each other.”

Wonder how long the red state farmers will put up with welfare to grow goods for storage????? So sad!!!

American farmer: Trump 'took away all of our markets'
Yahoo Finance Adriana Belmonte,Yahoo Finance 20 hours ago

Farmer: We're tired of being 'jerked' back and forth by rhetoric on both sides

The White House recently announced that it would be providing an additional $16 billion in aid to American farmers affected by the trade war between the U.S. and China.

But the problem for American farmers has becomes bigger than something a bailout can fix.

“This trade thing is what’s brought on by the president and it’s really frustrating because he took away all of our markets,” Bob Nuylen, a farmer from North Dakota who grows spring wheat and sunflowers, told Yahoo Finance. “We live in an area where we’re kind of in the middle of nowhere. It costs us a lot of money — over $1 a bushel to get our grain to markets.”

In this July 13, 2017, photo, farmer John Weinand surveys a wheat field near Beulah, N.D., that should be twice as tall as it is. Drought in western North Dakota this summer is laying waste to crops _ some of which won't even be worth harvesting. (AP Photo/Blake Nicholson)

‘As low as I’ve seen them in a long time’

Since trade tensions began in 2018, farmers have faced major financial challenges, since China was once a major U.S. agriculture buyer.

And losing customers has become a major issue. Soybean farmers have been dealing with this, as China has turned to other countries like Brazil for soybeans. Nuylen said this is also happening for wheat farmers, as China has begun importing wheat from Russian regions.

“All these countries went to different countries to get their grain,” Nuylen said. “How are we going to get the relations back with them to buy our grain again and be our customers?”

Between 2016-2017, China was the fourth-largest wheat buyer in the world, importing more than 61 million U.S. bushels. In 2019, the top U.S. export destinations for wheat include Mexico, the Philippines, Japan, and Nigeria — China is not even among the top 10.

“Our prices are probably as low as I’ve seen them in a long time,” he told Yahoo Finance. “We were losing just about $70 an acre just by putting our crop in [the ground] this spring.”

While a deal between the U.S. and China would take months to be reached, farmers are remaining “cautiously optimistic,” Glenn Brunkow, a Kansas-based corn and soybean farmer said.

The whole discounting of any questions about the far left "bold" policies (like medicare for all) as being "Republican talking points" is very interesting. It seems like this angle will be the go to defense of unrealistic proposals. Demand that the questions are talking points which they believe will allow them to not have to actually answer the questions.

Extremely hard to push each other off questions by claiming it's a Republican talking point. If a Democratic Presidential candidate is bringing it up, then by nature it can no longer be called a Republican talking point. Are people smart enough to see through it? Well probably not Democratic primary voters, but we'll see with the rest of the country.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., said at Wednesday night’s Democratic debate that she could go to the suburbs and explain what white privilege is to white women who voted for President Trump.

“I can talk to those white women,” she said in response to a question about how she would heal race relations in the country. “When their son is walking down the street with a bag of M&Ms in his pocket, wearing a hoodie, his whiteness is what protects him from not being shot.”

Oh, and check Biden's numbers. He said he would have $1000 deductible and cap out of pocket expenses to a percent of income. If you do the math, it turns out his plan leave people susceptible to more out of pocket expenses than most of the plans out there.

All seems wonderful when they talk about it in generic terms. But when you dig into these so called solutions, you will find that it's smoke and mirrors explained by rhetoric.

Marianne Williamson Not Sure What She's Doing Up Here With All These Crazy People

DETROIT, MI—Presidential candidate Marianne Williamson reported Tuesday that she was not sure what she was doing up on stage with "all these crazy people" after CNN's first Democratic debate.

Williamson pointed out that between a guy who praised the Soviet Union, a woman who pretended to be Native American to get ahead in life, and a woman who beats her staffers with a wooden spoon, she was clearly the adult during the debate.

"I mean, these guys are really far out there," Williamson said with a concerned look on her face as she smelled a crystal to calm her down. "It was pretty obvious I didn't belong up there. Man, where did the Democrats find such nutcases?"

"I'm starting to worry the crazy might rub off on me," she added. "I need to purge myself of the negative energy we just witnessed up there. Does anyone have a goat, a knife, and some candles?"

The Bee is on fire

Second Democratic Debate Turns Into Tense Minimum Wage Bidding War

DETROIT, MI—The second night of CNN's Democratic debates was intended to be a substantive debate on policy but quickly descended into a tense minimum wage bidding war.

It began when Cory Booker suggested a $15 minimum wage and was immediately shouted down for being a Christian-sympathetic bigot. Other candidates started shouting higher and higher numbers, each trying to one-up everyone else.

The frantic CNN host quickly took on the role of auctioneer.

"$15, do I hear $15, $15! Fifteen dollars is the current bid, $20 do I hear $20... $20 to the woman in the white suit, $25, do I hear $25, thank you to the elderly man sniffing the woman in the white suit's hair, $25, $25 is the current bid," he began breathlessly as the bidding kicked off.

At one point Andrew Yang shouted out $1000, causing a gasp to be heard from the other bidders. He later clarified he was just saying everyone should get $1000, not putting in a bid of $1000/hour, but it was too late. Everyone continued the bidding from $1000, driving the bid well into the five-digit range within just a few minutes.

At the end of the intense bidding war, Joe Biden came out on top with a bid of $1.4 million per hour.

"Sold to the geriatric man giving a massage to the lady in pink, thank you sir!" the CNN host concluded.

lo iq said "I did ask when was the last time the feds lowered rates that resulted in such a Dow loss"

No you said "Anyone mention the 300 point dow crash with a prime rate decrease????"

So much stupidity in two short statements.

You didn't say "loss" you said "crash"

You assign a cause to an event that was widely predicted in advance. The actual market reaction was to what Powell was saying at the press conference he gave later.

Also the Fed may influence rates but they do not set the prime rate. That is done by individual banks.

WHY DO YOU CONSTANTLY POST SUCH LO IQ DRIVEL ? Are you impressing yourself for yourself?

Everyone here know you are lo iq, you don't have to constantly prove it.

but you will.

ROFLMFAO !!!

Have We No Decency? A Response to President Trump
July 30, 2019

The escalation of racialized rhetoric from the President of the United States has evoked responses from all sides of the political spectrum. On one side, African American leaders have led the way in rightfully expressing outrage. On the other, those aligned with the President seek to downplay the racial overtones of his attacks, or remain silent.

As faith leaders who serve at Washington National Cathedral ¬– the sacred space where America gathers at moments of national significance – we feel compelled to ask: After two years of President Trump’s words and actions, when will Americans have enough?

As Americans, we have had such moments before, and as a people we have acted. Events of the last week call to mind a similarly dark period in our history:

“Until this moment, Senator, I think I never really gauged your cruelty or your recklessness. … You have done enough. Have you no sense of decency?”

That was U.S. Army attorney Joseph Welch on June 9, 1954, when he confronted Senator Joseph McCarthy before a live television audience, effectively ending McCarthy’s notorious hold on the nation. Until then, under the guise of ridding the country of Communist infiltration, McCarthy had free rein to say and do whatever he wished. With unbridled speech, he stoked the fears of an anxious nation with lies; destroyed the careers of countless Americans; and bullied into submissive silence anyone who dared criticize him.

In retrospect, it’s clear that Welch’s question was directed less toward McCarthy and more to the nation as a whole. Had Americans had enough? Where was our sense of decency?

We have come to accept a level of insult and abuse in political discourse that violates each person’s sacred identity as a child of God. We have come to accept as normal a steady stream of language and accusations coming from the highest office in the land that plays to racist elements in society.

This week, President Trump crossed another threshold. Not only did he insult a leader in the fight for racial justice and equality for all persons; not only did he savage the nations from which immigrants to this country have come; but now he has condemned the residents of an entire American city. Where will he go from here?

Make no mistake about it, words matter. And, Mr. Trump’s words are dangerous.

These words are more than a “dog-whistle.” When such violent dehumanizing words come from the President of the United States, they are a clarion call, and give cover, to white supremacists who consider people of color a sub-human “infestation” in America. They serve as a call to action from those people to keep America great by ridding it of such infestation. Violent words lead to violent actions.

When does silence become complicity? What will it take for us all to say, with one voice, that we have had enough? The question is less about the president’s sense of decency, but of ours.

As leaders of faith who believe in the sacredness of every single human being, the time for silence is over. We must boldly stand witness against the bigotry, hatred, intolerance, and xenophobia that is hurled at us, especially when it comes from the highest offices of this nation. We must say that this will not be tolerated. To stay silent in the face of such rhetoric is for us to tacitly condone the violence of these words. We are compelled to take every opportunity to oppose the indecency and dehumanization that is racism, whether it comes to us through words or actions.

There is another moment in our history worth recalling. On January 21, 2017, Washington National Cathedral hosted an interfaith national prayer service, a sacred tradition to honor the peaceful transfer of political power. We prayed for the President and his young Administration to have “wisdom and grace in the exercise of their duties that they may serve all people of this nation, and promote the dignity and freedom of every person.”

That remains our prayer today for us all.
