Former Trump Adviser: Giuliani’s Ukraine-DNC Conspiracy Theory Has ‘No Validity’

Tom Bossert, who worked in the Trump administration until April 2018, said he’s “deeply frustrated” by the president’s personal attorney.

Tom Bossert, a former homeland security adviser to President Donald Trump, said a conspiracy theory pushed by Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal attorney, that Ukraine was behind the 2016 cyberattack against the Democratic National Committee is “completely false.”

Bossert, who joined ABC News as an on-air analyst after resigning from the administration in April 2018, said Sunday that he’s “deeply frustrated” that Giuliani continues to peddle the unsubstantiated theory.

“It’s not only a conspiracy theory, it is completely debunked,” Bossert told ABC’s George Stephanopoulos during Sunday’s episode of “This Week.”

“I am deeply frustrated with what [Giuliani] is doing in repeating that debunked theory to the president,” he continued.

The conspiracy theory was drawn into the national spotlight last week after the White House released a summary of Trump’s July phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

During the call, which would become the focus of a U.S. intelligence official’s subsequent whistleblower complaint, Trump allegedly pressured Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden as well as Crowdstrike, the cybersecurity company that investigated the DNC hack.

Giuliani has claimed that Crowdstrike falsely accused the Russians of carrying out the cyberattack and that Ukraine was actually behind it. There’s no evidence to support these allegations. Multiple U.S. intelligence agencies have determined Russia was responsible for the hack.

“It has no validity,” Bossert said of the Ukraine-DNC conspiracy theory. “The United States government reached its conclusion on attributing to Russia the DNC hack in 2016 before it even communicated it to the FBI.”

Bossert said he’s “deeply disturbed” by Trump’s call with Zelensky, which Democrats say amounts to a U.S. president seeking foreign assistance in his bid for reelection.

“It is a bad day and a bad week for this president and this country if he is asking for political dirt on an opponent,” Bossert told ABC. He added, however, that he’s not totally convinced Trump delayed military aid to Ukraine for the purpose of persuading Ukraine to meet his political demands.

Stephanopoulos asked Bossert whether it’s appropriate for Ukraine to investigate a debunked conspiracy theory and to investigate a political rival of a foreign leader.

“The DNC server and that conspiracy theory has got to go,” Bossert said. “They have to stop with that. It cannot continue to be repeated in our discourse.”

He warned Trump against continuing to focus on “past grievances” from Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

“If he continues to focus on that white whale, it’s going to bring him down,” Bossert said. “Enough.”

If articles of impeachment do pass then it's going to be scorched earth with a street fighter the Democrats never had to face.

However, it's quite possible that after the Jerry and Adam clown show in the house there might not be the appetite among Democrats to pass them.

Either way it's lose lose for them.

I SAID:
The evidence itself will be very public and open to all.

CH SAID:
Not if the witness is not allowed to be cross examined under oatch with all of America there to view it.
(With William Barr and a cop with handcuffs sitting in the audience if he/she lies)

I SAY:
How dramatic!

Ch, you are surely not that stupid. I don't know whether the whistleblower will eventually have to testify publicly, but even if he or she would, what good would it do?

She of he does not CLAIM to have firsthand evidence.
He or she was quite open about that.
And so the only people who need to be cross examined are those the whistleblower has said actually expressed in his or her hearing their deep concern that the President committed an illegal, impeachable offense.

How hard is that to understand?

Commonsense said...

Well James part of the cross examination is getting the name of those people since he hasn't given them yet.

For all we know he/she made everything up.

Also his/her motivation since there was nothing illegal and from what I can gather this person does not like Trump's foreign policy. But it's not his/her job to dictate policy.

Commonsense said...

Just a question James. Why are you so afraid to have he/she cross-examine.

You know if it goes to a trial in the senate then he/she will have to testify. And it will have to be in public and under oath.

So, you want to turn the impeachment trial in the Senate, into an investigation of President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

You don't give a shit about the Constitution, because you're political bias against people who dare to disagree with Trump are enemies of the people.

You want them charged with treason and put to death.

Country over politics is patriotic.

You don't give a shit about the Constitution

On the contrary, it's quite constitutional. The president may avail himself of any and all witnesses and/or pieces of evidence he feels will assist his defense.

Wait until he starts calling reporters to the stand and demanding they reveal their sources of classified leaks. And when the reporter refuses, Chief JUSTICE John Roberts says, bailiff take the witness into custody.

There's no appeal from the Chief Justice's ruling.

More like Pelosi values her power over her caucus over control of the house.

She will weed her garden and there are three or four particularly troublesome weeds to pull.

Giuliani could be facing multiple violations of the campaign finance laws.

*Giuliani had with both US and Ukraine government officials to push Trump's personal agenda.

*He met with Zelensky's aide Andriy Yermak in Madrid in August, according to the complaint, as part of a "direct follow-up" to Trump's call with Zelensky about the "cases" they had discussed.

*Giuliani reached out to several other Zelensky advisers, but it's unclear whether they ultimately met or what was discussed.

*Multiple US officials told the whistleblower that at least two of Zelensky's aides planned to travel to Washington, DC, in mid-August.

*Giuliani spoke with Yuriy Lutsenko, Ukraine's prosecutor general at the time, at least twice this year

*In 2018, Giuliani spoke with former and corrupt Ukrainian Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin, who is at the center of Trump's and Giuliani's unsubstantiated allegations of corruption against Biden.

*He planned to travel to Ukraine in May to press the Ukrainian government to investigate Biden but called off the trip at the last minute after a public firestorm.

*US officials told the whistleblower they were deeply concerned by Giuliani dealing with Ukraine, viewing it as a circumvention of normal national-security processes.

*They said State Department officials spoke with Giuliani to try to "contain the damage" to national security.
Multiple US officials told the whistleblower Ukraine was led to believe that a call or meeting between the two presidents "would depend on whether Zelensky showed willingness to 'play ball' on the issues that had been publicly aired by Mr. Lutsenko and Mr. Giuliani."

*The complaint also discusses Giuliani's public criticism of Marie Yovanovitch, a career diplomat who served as US ambassador to Ukraine from 2016 until she was recalled by the State Department in May.

The statutes of limitations has not run out on this.

Obama himself can now be charged for a crime of "accepting" foreign assistance in an investigation of a political opponent. While he wasn't running for President, it's certainly a campaign contribution to the Democrats as much as an investigation into Joe Biden would be a contribution for someone's reelection. (heck Biden probably won't be the nominee).

Certainly if it is a crime for Giuliani looking into something, then it's a crime for Obama to have done it.

These stories show that the country itself does not want impeachment and that it would likely produce a backlash at the polls.

So if the Democrats were interested in the Country, then they would listen to the Country. Rather, the Democrats are interested in their own hate.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

There you go again. It's not hatred of the Orange man. It is the actions of the President, that are a violation of the Constitution, misdemeanors and criminal offenses.

Right now, we can't prosecute a sitting President.

Mike Pence has said that we should never get help from a foreign nation.

You really have lost your mind Scott.

Dictators go back and try to imprison their opponents.

If Moscow Mitch let's the Republicans turn the impeachment trial into a trial of Obama and Hillary Clinton, the people will destroy the Republican party.

Since Trump has taken over the Republican party, history will see this as the biggest threat to the country since the civil war.

Giuliani falsely claims it’s “appropriate” for the President to bully a foreign country into investigating his political rival.

The problem with Trump’s conduct isn’t a quid pro quo. It’s the abuse of presidential power to get aid from a foreign nation in an election. https://twitter.com/rudygiuliani/status/1175582307941605378 …

So, you want to turn the impeachment trial in the Senate, into an investigation of President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

no alky. we call it offering a robust defense of himself. trump that is. gee, you seem worried that queen cankles cunt and 0linsky might have something to hide, something they themselves might be guilty of.

Dictators go back and try to imprison their opponents.

indeed.

dictators like 0linsky truly did try to destroy and imprison paul manafort, mike flynn, and roger stone.

If Moscow Mitch let's the Republicans turn the impeachment trial into a trial of Obama and Hillary Clinton, the people will destroy the Republican party.

mitch presides over the senate and will manage the rules as he sees fit. trump is constrained by those rules. however, since the rules DO allow him to mount an aggressive defense, i'd say that all of the suspects who had knowledge of or approved, or facilitated your little palace coup are now exposed.

Since Trump has taken over the Republican party, history will see this as the biggest threat to the country since the civil war.

your sides flat out refusal to accept the result of the 2016 election set the table for another civil war. if you were truly country over party we wouldn't be where we are right now. but you fucking assholes simply can't help yourselves. every time you lose you pull shit like this. and usually the cowardly republicans roll over and you get what you want.

not this time.

There you go again. It's not hatred of the Orange man. It is the actions of the President, that are a violation of the Constitution, misdemeanors and criminal offenses.

bullshit.

you started going after this guy the day after the election. before he was sworn in or had a single day as a sitting president.

disrupt J20 ring a fucking bell? still sporting your pussy hat alky?

it IS a pure, raw, unadulterated, seething, burning hatred for this man.

you fucked with the wrong guy alky because trump WILL burn this motherfucker to the ground. and rightfully so in my opinion.

'don't start none, won't be none' are words of wisdom that you should've heeded. but like i said, you just couldn't help yourselves.

well here comes the fucking storm, alky. here comes the fucking storm.

nothing says respect the constitution and party over country quite like this -

Joe Biden’s presidential campaign demanded on Sunday that major TV networks stop booking Rudy Giuliani, accusing President Donald Trump’s personal lawyer of spreading “false, debunked conspiracy theories” on behalf of his client.

what were you saying about dictators, alky?
