So let's say the Democrats actually decide to follow through?

Well... so what?

The reality here folks is that by now, there is not a single American who doesn't understand that our so called Congressional leaders are literally nothing but raging partisans who work 24/7 for their Parties and pretty much ignore the people.

Democrats used a set of arguments that by their own account has destroyed any actual meaning that impeachment holds. As we were all taught in Jr High, impeachment is the legal manner in which an office holder is removed from office. In the case of the President (who otherwise cannot be indicted while sitting in office) the impeachment replaces the legal process if it is determined that he commits and is guilty of a crime (High Crimes and Misdemeanors). The House has the responsibility of what would otherwise be known as the indictment, while the Senate actually holds a trial to determine innocence and guilt.

But Democrats have worked double time to create a new standard (that replaces the High Crimes and Misdemeanors) by declaring that impeachment is a now a political (not legal) process and therefor Congress can pretty much make any determination about what is and isn't an impeachable offense. As described in a post the other day, we have had actual elected Democratic office holders who have  demand that actions such as these were impeachable:

  • Criticizing football players for kneeling during the national anthem
  • Mocking someone
  • Creating chaos and division
  • For being abnormal
  • For calling some countries shit holes

Now clearly this is an attempt to "lower the bar" so to speak, in order to determine that they can simply decide to hold an impeachment hearing whenever the President does something that they do not like. They are making the case that breaking the law is no longer a requirement for impeachment.

Now the problem here is that this is a lose/lose argument. For those who actually understand the Constitution and respect the rule of law, they will inherently see an impeachment hearing to be political fodder and a complete disrespect to our Constitution and rule of law. Those who agree that impeachment is not necessary "legal" openly lowers the bar to the point where an impeachment from the House and an acquittal in the Senate will be nothing more than political theater. Moreover the former will certainly not take kindly to the latter's flippant views regarding the constitution and our political process.

Let's be perfectly clear here.

Nobody "actually" believes that the President committed a crime here. Plain and simple.  The idea that this phone call constitutes a crime is just plain silly. People can pretend differently all they want (they can even tell a pollster they believe it because they hate Trump)... but everyone deep down knows that they are just pretending.

Moreover, it never really mattered if a crime was actually committed.

When Pelosi stepped up to announce her decision to hold an impeachment inquiry, it was quite literally a day BEFORE we were going to see any of the evidence of the allegations in question. If Democrats believed that a crime had actually been committed and that this was necessary to hold an inquiry, then they most certainly would have waited the two days to see the transcripts of the calls and the whistle blower complaint. The fact that they wouldn't wait is an obvious indication that they pretty much "knew" that the complaint was going to fall well short of what was needed to show a crime. They had decided that this was the issue (right, wrong, or indifferent) to make stand on. Had they waited and tried to make the move after the transcript and complaint was made public, then they would have most certainly lost people. But doing so when they did, was basically crossing the bridge and burning it behind them.

So here we are. The Democrats have shown their hand. They want to hold impeachment hearings (or whatever) in spite of knowing no crime was committed. They will pretend and they will lower the bar and they will concoct some silly theory that others will pretend to believe, all because they hate the bad orange man.

And it will not matter one bit to the President or most of America. Because it won't mean what it used to mean and people will know it's a farce. The only thing that will be harmed in all of this is our Constitution and our inherent respect for the rule of law and likely the reputation of the Democratic Party.

I know a couple liberals from different areas in my life and both have done the same thing to me. They make a statement against Trump. I explain specifically why their statement is incorrect. But even with that specific knowledge, they dismissed it and insisted that they were still right.

For example, one said that Trump's tax cuts didn't actually cut anyone's taxes. I easily disproved that. Starting with my own taxes, with my marginal rates dropping from 28% to 22%, saving me several thousand dollars.

The other claimed that everyone had in fact, accepted the 2016 Trump election. So I asked him what he thought the resistance and the FBI insurance policy were all about? Or if he had heard any speeches given by Al Green or Maxine Waters, not to mention Schiff and Nadler. His response was that they accept the election results but Trump has committed numerous impeachable offenses and he's ruining the country.

This is the liberal mindset. They've created their own reality. I do think they really do believe what they say. We see it with Roger. I also think we are seriously headed for another civil war because Trump supporters see things very differently. And they getting fed up with mouthy liberals screaming in their faces.

President Trump told two senior Russian officials in a 2017 Oval Office meeting that he was unconcerned about Moscow’s interference in the 2016 U.S. presidential election because the United States did the same in other countries, an assertion that prompted alarmed White House officials to limit access to the remarks to an unusually small number of people, according to three former officials with knowledge of the matter.

The comments, which have not been previously reported, were part of a now-infamous meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak, in which Trump revealed highly classified information that exposed a source of intelligence on the Islamic State. He also said during the meeting that firing FBI Director James B. Comey the previous day had relieved “great pressure” on him.

A memorandum summarizing the meeting was limited to a few officials with the highest security clearances in an attempt to keep the president’s comments from being disclosed publicly, according to the former officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive matters.

The former official observed that Trump has “that streak of moral equivalency,” recalling how he once dismissed a question about the assassination of journalists and dissidents in Putin’s Russia by telling Fox News’s Bill O’Reilly: “There are a lot of killers. You think our country’s so innocent?”

Another former official said Trump wasn’t the only one to conflate Russia’s interference in the U.S. elections with U.S. efforts to promote democracy and good governance abroad.

The president and his top aides seemed not to understand the difference between Voice of America, a U.S.-supported news organization that airs in foreign countries, with Russian efforts to persuade American voters by surreptitiously planting ads in social media, this person said.

One former senior official said Trump regularly defended Russia’s actions, even in private, saying no country is pure. “He was always defensive of Russia,” this person said, adding the president had never made such a specific remark about interference in their presence.

“He thought the whole interference thing was ridiculous. He never bought into it.”

The new AP/MTV poll reveals a slim 33 percent of Americans ages 15 to 34 approve of Trump's White House performance. This response comes as Trump's weekly approval stood at 39 percent with Gallup last week. His daily approval with Rasmussen stands at 47 percent as of Friday.

"He doesn’t seem to be really for women. He doesn’t seem to be for Black Lives Matter. He doesn’t seem to be for DACA," 23-year-old Meghan Carnes told AP. "He doesn’t seem to be for the kids worried about guns. It’s extremely disappointing to have a president who doesn’t seem to care."

Trump Caught Off Guard by Impeachment Storm

Los Angeles Times: “By Friday, as the crisis metastasized with cascading disclosures about Trump’s requests for Ukrainian authorities to investigate his political foes, and allegations that the White House tried to “lock down” the evidence, the president was still grasping for a strategic response. Other than issuing a slew of angry tweets, he stayed out of the public eye until an evening event with Hispanic supporters in the East Room.

“One administration official described the president as ‘shell shocked’ by the sudden political gut punch even as he insists the impeachment fight will help him win reelection next year by rallying his base and angering independents.”

Said a Trump campaign adviser: “I think he’s badly wounded right now. I’m suddenly very worried about 2020.”

The Disturbing Reason Why the Dems Really Want to Impeach Trump

Lefties have made it very clear that they would rather, practically or symbolically, reverse the results of the 2016 election than focus on winning in 2020 because of the larger principle at stake. The second part of the principle appears in every media piece pushing impeachment. It hinges on President Trump’s alleged unfitness for office. The first part of the principle is the unfitness of the voters to choose leaders.

Elections are a humiliating process that force lefties to lie to voters, hide their agendas, and appeal to the people they despise to be allowed to rule them. Even when they win, a sour taste lingers afterward.

The Left desperately wants impeachment proceedings because it wants to exercise direct power.

People wonder what the Left really wants? Post-gender bathrooms, banning cows, and paying reparations to drug dealers are just random policies. They’re not the endgame.

Unless the Democrats take the Senate, impeachment would be a meaningless show trial. But Marxist regimes love show trials of political opponents. The Marxist element in the House desperately wants a show trial of President Trump because such a proceeding is an explicit rejection of our political system.

The push to impeach President Trump did not begin organically with a crime allegedly committed in office, but began before he even took office and, in some elements of the media, before he even won. The premise of impeachment has always been an inherent unfitness. The actual basis for impeachment has always been a corollary to that claim of an inherent unfitness that preceded even the election.

Inherent unfitness expresses the idea that the voters never had any right to elect President Trump.

Impeachment is not just meant to be a trial of President Trump, but of the voters who chose him. Its outcome, whatever the composition of the Senate, is meant to be an argument for remaking the system of elections, whether by abolishing the Electoral College or tampering with the judiciary, that would take the power further out of the hands of the voters and concentrate them with the right sorts of people.

The right sorts of people usually being wealthy and influential lefties in California and New York.

But the real appeal of impeachment is more emotional than strategic. President Trump’s victory threatened lefties by suggesting that, despite the Obama era, they are not actually in control.

"Power is not a means, it is an end. One does not establish a dictatorship in order to safeguard a revolution; one makes the revolution in order to establish the dictatorship," O'Brien tells the hapless Winston Smith in the novel 1984. "The object of power is power."

Marxist regimes love show trials because they allow them to destroy and humiliate their enemies.

"How does one man assert his power over another, Winston?" O'Brien asks.

"By making him suffer," Winston replies.

Judge blocks Trump administration from indefinitely detaining migrant children

The judge found the regulations violated the terms of a 1997 settlement that set standards for the treatment of migrant children, including that they must be released from nonlicensed facilities within 20 days.

A federal judge Friday blocked new regulations that would have let the Trump administration indefinitely detain migrant children and families through the length of their immigration proceedings.

U.S. District Court Judge Dolly Gee of the Central District of California issued a permanent injunction against the Trump administration’s rule, which would have placed no limit on the detention of children and changed the licensing authority for facilities housing them.

Gee found the regulations violated the terms of a 1997 settlement known as the Flores agreement that sets standards for the treatment of migrant children, including that they must be released from non-licensed facilities within 20 days.

“The blessing or the curse — depending on one’s vantage point — of a binding contract is its certitude,” Gee wrote in her order. “The Flores Agreement is a binding contract and a consent decree.”

“Defendants cannot simply ignore the dictates of the consent decree merely because they no longer agree with its approach as a matter of policy,” she wrote.

The judge added that to seek relief from such a decree, the government would have to demonstrate that a change in law or facts rendered their compliance illegal or impossible, or through a change in law from Congress.

“Having failed to obtain such relief, Defendants cannot simply impose their will by promulgating regulations that abrogate the consent decree’s most basic tenets,” she wrote. “That violates the rule of law. And that this Court cannot permit.”

WE ARE STILL A NATION COMMITTED TO THE RULE OF LAW.

So many members of the House majority are befuddled by the hyperventilating over messaging, confused at the pretzels some lawmakers twist themselves into as they pursue impeaching President Trump. They say that what Trump has said in the open is enough to charge him with high crimes and misdemeanors.”

These Democrats suggest this message:
The president tried again to strong arm a sovereign European country into injecting itself into the United States’ electoral process.
Don’t take my word for it — just listen to the president’s own words.”

New Poll Shows Support for Impeachment Probe

A new DCCC poll asked if the respondent would be more likely to vote for a candidate who “sided with Nancy Pelosi and supported an impeachment investigation into Donald Trump,” or someone who “sided with Mitch McConnell and opposed an impeachment investigation into Donald Trump.”

The result: 49% would vote for the candidate who sided with Pelosi, compared to 38% for the candidate who sided with McConnell.

already so much of a tight case there

yup, tight all right.

we know the entirety of the whistle, err, rumor monger third hand, once removed complaint, and we know the entirety of the telephone call transcript. we also know that trump was acting in accordance with a 1999 treaty with ukraine concerning mutual legal assistance in criminal matters. extorting one billion dollar$ in exchange for the termination of a prosecutor is what we call a criminal matter. the fact that the asshole who extorted the billion is now a presidential candidate is, or should be, irrelevant.

furthermore, pencil neck schiff chose to read a lie, a complete fabrication into the congressional record when the actual transcript was already made public. that should be grounds for HIS removal. if it's a crime to lie TO congress, then telling a complete lie on behalf of congress as the fucking chair of a congressional committee should be as well.

additionally, if this case is so "tight" then red state congressional democrats need not conceal their position on this. they should proudly and publicly announce their support for impeachment. their case is, after all, "tight." quite tight. air tight.

the fact is that there is no case. tight or otherwise. this is all being done for show to put an asterisk next to trump's name in the history books. nothing more, nothing less.

the esteemed congressional black thought leader and towering intellect al green recently fucked up and told the truth when he said that democrats must impeach to prevent trump from being re-elected.

really?

so tell me how that is not meddling in the campaign of a presidential candidate when the sole purpose of impeachment is to prevent his re-election?

i can't wait until we get to enjoy the unintended consequences of the precedents being set here. at some point we're going to elect a democrat president. and that president will be subject to all of the oversight, harassment, investigations, special counsels, special prosecutors, special whatevers... because this is now how we roll.

good job democrats. your refusal to accept the results of the 2016 election and subsequent temper tantrums are putting the republic at serious risk. but you just can't help yourselves.

so could the "whistleblower" even have used this revised form??? I think not.

Anonymous said...

Instead Trump brought up something very early far more significant to him and ultimately to his Democratic Party and media opponents -- CrowdStrike. If you read the transcript, he was focussed on it before anyone was mentioned:

The President: I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike... I guess you have one of your wealthy people... The server, they say Ukraine has it. There are a lot of things that went on, the whole situation. I think you're surrounding yourself with some of the same people. I would like to have the Attorney General call you or your people and I would like you to get to the bottom of it. As you saw yesterday, that whole nonsense ended with a very poor performance by a man named Robert Mueller, an incompetent performance, but they say a lot of it started with Ukraine. Whatever you can do, it's very important that you do it if that's possible.

President Zelenskyy: Yes it is very important for me and everything that you just mentioned earlier. For me as a President, it is very important and we are open for any future cooperation. We are ready to open a new page on cooperation in relations between the United States and Ukraine. For that purpose, I just recalled our ambassador from United States and he will be replaced by a very competent and very experienced ambassador who will work hard on making sure that our two nations are getting closer

No Biden, only CrowdStrike (in the transcript with a lowercase s). Biden doesn't come up until minutes later, almost as a segue, after Zelensky had mentioned Giuliani.

Why was CrowdStrike on Trump's mind? Because it is one of the linchpins in the investigation into the provenance of the Russia probe, much of which is starting to emerge.

Among other things, this is the cloud-based company that assured Comey's FBI (they apparently never checked themselves for some reason) that it was Russia behind the hacking of the Democratic National Committee's server. CrowdStrike has done very well lately, but the question remains -- why would the FBI outsource an investigation like this? Why didn't they handle it themselves? They're supposed to have excellent cyber facilities.

And why would the Ukrainians then know anything about this? Well, CrowdStrike was also involved with promulgating a calumny against Ukraine that the Ukrainian army had inadvertently, via computer error, killed thousands of their own troops. This was ultimately walked back by CrowdStrike, which is owned by a noted Putin opponent. A Ukrainian oligarch is also involved. CrowdStrike is deeply in the mix of Russiagate.

No, it didn't go the way the Faux News commentator was hoping:

"Yeah, I think that's gross. It's the kind of thing we see too often in Washington. It's the kind of thing that you would hope we would be able to root out here in Washington. The appropriate way to attack that, I think, were Joe Biden to be the Democratic nominee, would have been for Donald Trump to raise exactly that point, and say, 'Hey, look. I came here to drain the swamp. I may not have been able to drain the swamp as much as I wanted to, but look at this access trading that the Vice President and his son seem to be involved in.' That to me would have been an appropriate attack. I mean, I think the President has some questions to answer about his own "swampy" behavior, but that would have been an appropriate, above board attack. Sending your personal attorney, however, to get involved in this kind of dirt digging against a prominent political opponent is grossly inappropriate, and I think should send shudders down the spines of all people, Republicans and Democrats, conservatives and liberals, that the President was apparently engaged in the activities that the phone call reflected yesterday."

Trump’s Fate Is In the Hands of Fox News

David Von Drehle: “Ordinarily, I’m skeptical of the power of media organizations — even Fox News. Though it is the most-watched cable (shall we say) ‘news’ channel in the United States, its average primetime viewership of about 2.5 million people is less than 1 percent of the nation. The audiences for MSNBC and CNN are typically even smaller. Most Americans have better things to do with their evenings than to be harangued about politics.

“However, those Fox News viewers punch far above their weight in one regard: They are the core of any hard-right primary challenge that might be waged against an incumbent Republican senator. I believe based on conversations with knowledgeable Republicans that Trump is neither popular nor admired among the Senate majority, but he is feared, therefore tolerated. The fear stems from his firm grip on that Fox News-viewing core and the belief that he could turn the core into an incumbent-crushing machine.

“To the extent that Trump’s grip begins to loosen, the fear will begin to lift and the president’s Senate firewall will begin to crumble.”

For example, by June, 44% in the Gallup Poll thought he should be removed from office, while 41% disagreed.”
