“The president never asked me to do anything illegal,” Lewandowski told Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.), though he did confirm his involvement in relaying the message to Sessions.
“The White House has directed me not to disclose the substance of any discussions with the President or his advisors to protect executive branch confidentiality.”
He was not a member of the White House staff, he was a civilian who was the President's enforcer. Because he refused to testify, the committee may change him with contempt.
He was like the enforcer for The Godfather.
He admitted lying to MSNBC "The Beat". When he was directed by the President to tell Attorney General Mathias to fire Muller, although he knew that he would have been breaking the law. Lying to the media is not a crime.
The use of Executive Privilege is going to end up in the courts, if the Democrats pursue further investigations into alleged objection of justice.

The White House is seeking to end the United Auto Workers strike against General Motors with an agreement that would reopen an assembly plant in Lordstown, Ohio that GM shut down in March.
The effort, described to POLITICO by two people close to the matter, would effectively put the White House on the side of the UAW. Some 48,000 GM workers went out on strike Monday demanding higher wages, more generous health care benefits and more job security than management has been willing to offer in a new contract."
During intense questioning by House Judiciary Counsel Barry Berke, former Trump aide Corey Lewandowski was called out for lying on MSNBC about his Mueller report testimony, prompting him to respond: “I have no obligation to be honest with the media, because they’re just as dishonest as anybody else.”
The sharp exchange was yet another contentious moment in a day of confrontational and, at times, absurd public spectacle in the House Judiciary Committee hearing.
At issue in Berke’s line of inquiry was a February 22, 2019 appearance by Lewandowski on MSNBC’s The Beat with Ari Melber, in which Lewandowski claimed that President Donald Trump never asked him to get intervene on his behalf with then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions or the Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation. That claim was directly contradicted weeks later upon the release of Lewandowski’s Special Counsel testimony, which explained how the president had asked him to push Sessions to shut down the Mueller investigation and fire the Attorney General if he did not comply.
Melber himself highlighted Lewandowski’s dishonesty during his May 14, 2019 show when he revisited the Trump aide’s February appearance and called out his former guest for lying.
During his cross-examination for the Judiciary Committee, Berke played the May 14 clip and pressed Lewandowski to admit he had lied.
“That wasn’t true, was it?” Berke asked.
“I have no obligation to be honest with the media, because they’re just as dishonest as anybody else,” Lewandowski shot back.
Berke continued to push Lewandowski to admit he did not tell the truth to protect himself or the president from possible criminal obstruction charges, and Lewandowski continued to try to evade admitting the truth that he lied.
Ultimately, Lewandowski said he tells the truth when under oath, backing sideways into admitting he lies to the press often.
“I have no obligation to candid conversation with the media, just like they have no obligation to cover me honestly and they do it all the time,” Lewandowski claimed.
“You are admitting on national television you are lying?” Berke reiterated.
“I have been inaccurate on many occasions and maybe I was in inaccurate that time,” Lewandowski said.
Most of the congressmen are not prosecutors. They were not able to get Lewandowski to answer questions, because he was directed to not talk about his conversations with the President or his staff.
He ended up admitting lying to the press.
House Judiciary Counsel Barry Berke, was able to get him to actually tell the truth.
Corey Lewandowski was not an employee of the President. He was his campaign manager, and consultant for the President, but not as a member of the staff.
Between the lines: As Axios' Alayna Treene reported last week, Lewandowski was expected to put on a combative performance at the hearing in anticipation of a potential run for Senate in New Hampshire.
"Corey will use [the hearing] as part of the campaign," Thomas Rath, former attorney general of New Hampshire, told Axios. "He will be confrontational to the Democrats. He will be totally loyal to Trump. And he will be playing to the right wing of the party who need to unite behind him in a primary." Trump himself tweeted shortly after the hearing began: "Such a beautiful Opening Statement by Corey Lewandowski! Thank you Corey!"
I don't think he did his campaign any favors. New Hampshire is a swing state.
Separation of powers implies reciprocity. Members of Congress do a great deal of consulting with non-government experts and lay people in the course of legislating. It would be wrong, for example, for the Justice Department (the executive branch’s law-enforcement arm) to subpoena a member of Chairman Nadler’s staff or, hypothetically, a law professor Nadler has consulted on the ins and outs of impeachment. The political branches are supposed to respect each other’s duties, including the benefit to the country of their being able to consult knowledgeable people in carrying those duties out.
Of course, the salient issue is the ambit of the president’s duties. If a president used the presumed confidentiality of his communications with advisers for something other than the execution of his duties — specifically, for some illegitimate or criminal purpose — then executive privilege should not apply.
He goes farther when he said that the Democrats in Congress should be having impeachment hearings, not investigations.
This is the Republican spin on the investigations into this President.
This is less about high constitutional principle than low political theater. We all know what President Trump told Corey Lewandowski to do. We also know the Democrats are not going to impeach the president over it — regardless of where we come out on whether it comes close to an impeachable offense. To be sure, Democrats who control the House are entitled to use their power this way. But let’s be clear that today’s hearing is about the 2020 campaign. It is not a serious impeachment inquiry.
____ The Democrats are trying to overturn the last election, according to the President and his supporters.
Unlike most of the Truthers here I watched a lot of meeting today. I remember watching the Nixon impeachment hearings and the Clinton impeachment hearings.
Most of the Republicans were saying that the whole thing is to overturn the last election.
They didn't give a shit about his use of executive privilege, like they did during the Clinton impeachment hearings.
Hypocrisy is evident again, that Trump is the Republican party, despite many policies contrary to previous policies.
Cory Lewandowski, during Congressional testimony on Tuesday, admitted to lying about Trump on the Ari Melber show, claiming he's under no legal obligation to tell the truth to the press.
What he, and everyone associated with our Liar in Chief, fails to understand is that when one lies to the press, he/she is lying to the American people!... presumably for the corrupt purpose of misleading the public!

Good luck with getting the USSC to rule against executive privilege, which has been a legal standard for generations.

Has the Times forgotten about Edward Snowden? Obama responded to Snowden’s stunning revelations of the National Security Agency’s vacuuming up millions of Americans’ personal data by going on the Jay Leno Show and proclaiming: “There is no spying on Americans.” But NSA’s definition of “terrorist suspect” was so ludicrously broad that it includes anyone “searching the web for suspicious stuff” (maybe including presidential lies). Obama’s verbal defenses of NSA spying collapsed like a row of houses of cards.
In early 2009, Obama visited Mexico and, in a spiel calling for the renewal of the assault weapon ban, asserted that “more than 90 percent of the guns recovered in Mexico come from the United States.” This vastly overstated the actual problem, since that statistic measured only firearms that Mexican authorities sent to the U.S. for tracing.
His administration then acted as if 90 percent was a goal, not a lie, launching a secret Fast and Furious gunwalking operation masterminded by the Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives agency, deluging Mexican drug gangs with high-powered weapons. At least 150 Mexicans were killed by guns illegally sent south of the border with Obama administration approval.
Obama’s animosity to the Second Amendment spurred some of his most farcical whoppers. In July 2016, Obama asserted: “We flood communities with so many guns that it is easier for a teenager to buy a Glock than get his hands on a computer or even a book.” Glocks are the Lexus of handguns, and a person could buy hundreds of volumes of used books via Amazon for the price of a Glock.
A year earlier, Obama bewailed “neighborhoods where it’s easier for you to buy a handgun and clips than it is for you to buy a fresh vegetable.” Obama never offered a single example of a locale where carrots are rarer than .38 Specials. But his false claim helped frighten clueless suburbanites to support Obama’s anti-gun agenda.
The Times column lists only one Obama falsehood on the Affordable Care Act: “If you like your doctor, you'll be able to keep your doctor; if you like your health care plan, you'll be able to keep your health care plan.” Obama’s dozens of variations and recitals of this lie were disregarded. The Times also ignored the fact that the ObamaCare legislation was carefully crafted to con Congress and the public. As its intellectual godfather, MIT economist Jonathan Gruber, explained:
“Lack of transparency is a huge political advantage. And basically, call it the stupidity of the American voter or whatever, but basically, that was really, really critical to get this thing to pass.”
@thebradfordfile
No serious person in Washington ever believed Trump conspired with Vladimir Putin. These congressional show trials are disgusting.
Declassification will end the charade.
Jerry Nadler and Adam Schiff can then exit public life in shame.
And the real trials can begin.
