Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi reported dead! (Updated)

This would be a big body blow to ISIS

So what are the politics of this?

Some people will no doubt view this as the President attempting to "distract" the country from the more serious double secret impeachment inquisition taking place in a basement bunker somewhere in D.C. area. It's almost not hard to imagine our military having an easier time killing the leader of ISIS than getting into Schiff's dark probe of secrecy!

It could also be suggested that the President has decided to concentrate on more serious matters than whether some whiny State Department employee (who is upset in his/her decreased level of importance) has second hand information, or whether it might actually be third hand. As President...Trump still has a responsibility to "be" President, and let the so called "impeachment inquiry" run out of gas on it's own.

Either way it's obviously a good thing for the Country and a good thing for the world in general. If everyone could get together on that and simply congratulate everyone involved on a very, very important job well done, that would be the best possibly thing. But we'll see if that becomes the case. No doubt many on the left will have an extremely tough time giving any credit to anyone.

It's genuinely fascinating watching Democrats in real time struggle to figure out what to say about this. They want to be patriotic and anti-ISIS, but also need a way to malign Trump without contradicting their gushing Obama praise over OBL: not an easy balancing act. Good luck!

Trump repeatedly commending intelligence professionals and special ops who organized and executed the raid. Not self-congratulatory, which is undoubtedly making the press crazy.

Good time to remind everyone that in 2016, John Brennan held briefings in the White House Situation Room not on ISIS but about the Trump campaign. These briefings were attended by top Obama aides including VP Joe Biden. It’s an outrage that our national security was at risk...

while Brennan, Clapper, Comey, Rice, Lynch, Biden AND Obama focused on Carter Page and George Papadopoulos rather than the legitimate, deadly threats to the public and to our troops. For that alone they should all be held in contempt by the American people.

You could feel the unmistakable rumble of a geopolitical earthquake this week.

Though the tremors have long been evident, it's growing clearer with each day that we're experiencing a seismic shift that is threatening the political and economic world the United States did so much to create.

What's also clear is that those countries challenging American leadership most – China most profoundly and Russia with increasing intensity – see new opportunities to accelerate their gains in the face of a polarized and distracted Washington through November 2020 elections – and beyond.

From Syria to Ukraine, and from Afghanistan to Africa, the tectonic plates are shifting in a manner that threatens not only the credibility and durability of US global leadership but also the democratic values, the Western institutions and the alliance structures that it has inspired for the past seventy years and since World War II.

you left out the best part, alky:

One shouldn't exaggerate the lasting impact of any the above events – and many more could be included – on U.S. global leadership. It's also true that the United States continues to enjoy unique advantages that have served it well in the past and would do so again in the future – resilient institutions, a dynamic and job-creating economy and overwhelming military capabilities.

It's also true that authoritarian systems like those of China and Russia have built in disadvantages that could undermine them over time. China faces aging demographics, slowing growth, Hong Kong protests, and authoritarian structures that may prove brittle in the face of new challenges. Russia's structural problems are far deeper, and no one can predict the shape of a post-Putin world.

That said, it's time to recognize the fact that a geopolitical earthquake is under way. Its consequences will grow only greater the longer we are distracted by our own domestic political ferment and fail to respond with a seriousness and strategy that is equal to the challenge.

distracted by our own domestic political ferment = jerking off on impeachment.

Trump’s tweet has some truth to it: “I pointed him out in my book just BEFORE the attack on the World Trade Center.”

But the book, with only a passing mention of bin Laden, did not do more than point to the al-Qaida leader as one of many threats to U.S. security. Trump’s book, “The America We Deserve,” came out more than 1½ years before al-Qaida’s deadly attack on the U.S. on Sept. 11, 2001, not just before.

Up Thursday is Timothy Morrison, a top Russia and Europe adviser on the National Security Council. He’s due to corroborate that Trump pressed Ukraine for political help in return for US aid.

Hunter Biden received over $700,000 from a New York-based capital management company that held equity in a Chinese investment firm with close ties to the Bank of China, a Daily Caller News Foundation review of Hunter Biden’s Chinese, Ukrainian and American business dealings has found.

And despite the deluge of media reports saying Hunter Biden received $50,000 a month for his work on the board of the Ukranian natural gas company Burisma Holdings, the records tell a much different story.

Hunter Biden, the son of former Vice President Joe Biden, did not receive any compensation directly from Burisma, according to available records. The oft-cited $50,000 a month figure is actually based on payments he received from a New York-based company called Rosemont Seneca Bohai, which was owned and controlled by his longtime business partner, Devon Archer.

Rosemont Seneca Bohai’s Morgan Stanley bank records are publicly available because they were submitted in an unrelated criminal case that involved Archer and an alleged scheme to defraud millions from an American Indian tribe. Archer was found guilty in the case in 2018, but his conviction was later overturned.

The bank records show that in each month between June 2014 and October 2015, Rosemont Seneca Bohai wired between $10,000 and $150,979 to Hunter Biden for undisclosed purposes. In total, Hunter Biden received $708,302 from Rosemont Seneca Bohai, which was under Archer’s care at all times.

During that 17-month timeframe, in June 2015, Rosemont Seneca Bohai obtained a 20% equity stake in Bohai Harvest RST, the Chinese private equity firm that Hunter Biden has been a board member of since its founding in 2013. Hunter Biden announced Sunday he would resign from that position by the end of October.

Bohai Harvest RST is often referred to as BHR Partners in English news reports.

Just four months prior, in February 2015, Archer’s associate, investment banker Dan McClory, said he, Archer and BHR Partners CEO Jonathan Li, were pictured meeting with a leader of the Chinese State Assets Commission (SASAC), which as of 2017 managed $26 trillion in Chinese state assets.

“Group shot with the Director General of Chinese State Assets Commission. He’s the short guy at center,” McClory emailed his associates after the meeting. “Sasac is the largest controlling shareholder in the world … I brought them to BHR. Jonathan Li of BHR is third from right.”

“Fun times in Beijing,” McClory added. “Devon was stellar.”

But Russia’s response was muted, with the defense ministry in Moscow saying merely that it had no reliable information on the U.S. raid.

Trump’s Vivid Account of the Baghdadi Raid
October 27, 2019 at 4:59 pm EDT

“The White House script on the death of brutal terrorist Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was short. But with two words, President Trump turned the somber announcement into a vivid 40-minute news conference that included bravado, detailed descriptions of military operations, questionable statements and self-promotion,” the Washington Post reports.

“Any questions?”

“Trump eschewed the serious televised statement his predecessors might have offered. Obama, for example, said about 1,390 words when announcing the death of Osama bin Laden, and took no questions.”

“Trump, in contrast, uttered almost 8,000 words and took a dozen questions, offering an unfiltered and, at times, vivid account of the raid.”

Even my NC father called my sister while this was going on and said, "Why can't he just shut up?"
