So on a day Trump admin killed leader AND spokesman of ISIS (rapists and terrorists both), media newsrooms & blue ticks spent their time writing puff piece bios, and spreading conspiracy theories about staged photos?

I know the bar was already low but man, you guys get under it.

When will Joe Biden drop out? Only real question remaining.

Another attempt to overturn the Constitution.

impeachment inquiry Monday as a former deputy national security adviser defied a subpoena for a closed-door deposition at the outset of another busy week.

Charles Kupperman, who served as a deputy to former national security adviser John Bolton, filed a lawsuit on Friday, seeking guidance from a federal judge about whether he should listen to the executive branch, which has told him not to attend, or to Congress. Since there has not yet been a ruling, he declined to appear.

Kupperman listened in to the July 25 call in which Trump pressed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his son Hunter Biden. That call is at the center of the impeachment inquiry.

Jury tampering?

Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) met with a former Ukrainian diplomat who circulated conspiracy theories that Trump wants to have investigated about the 2016 election.

Sen. Ron Johnson met in July with a former Ukrainian diplomat who has circulated unproven claims that Ukrainian officials assisted Hillary Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign, a previously unreported contact that underscores the GOP senator’s involvement in the unfolding narrative that triggered the impeachment inquiry of President Trump.

In an interview this week, Andrii Telizhenko said he met with Johnson (Wis.) for at least 30 minutes on Capitol Hill and with Senate staff for five additional hours. He said discussions focused in part on “the DNC issue” — a reference to his unsubstantiated claim that the Democratic National Committee worked with the Ukrainian government in 2016 to gather incriminating information about then-Trump campaign chairman Paul Manafort. Telizhenko said he could not recall the date of the meeting, but a review of his Facebook page revealed a photo of him and Johnson posted on July 11.

Sen. Johnson has defended Trump and co-sponsored Sen. Lindsey Graham’s impeachment resolution, but he has also been outspoken on the need for military aid to Ukraine. A key question is why was US Senator who is at the middle of congressional Ukraine policy meeting and discussing debunked 2016 conspiracy theories that are being used to argue that Russia did not attack the 2016 election?

Johnson is in the middle of the impeachment scandal. He will also be one of the jurors at Trump’s impeachment trial.

Republicans Anxious and Adrift Defending Trump

Washington Post: “Republican senators are lost and adrift as the impeachment inquiry enters its second month, navigating the grave threat to President Trump largely in the dark, frustrated by the absence of a credible case to defend his conduct and anxious about the historic reckoning that likely awaits them.

“Recent days have delivered the most damaging testimony yet about Trump and his advisers commandeering Ukraine policy for the president’s personal political goals, which his allies on Capitol Hill sought to undermine by storming the deposition room and condemning the inquiry as secretive and corrupt.

Democrats In Trump Districts Outraising Challengers

CBS News: “Incumbent House Democrats in Trump districts raised a total of more than $14.3 million in direct contributions in the third quarter, which just ended in September, compared to the $6.08 million raised by their Republican challengers.

“Of the Democrats in Trump districts, 28 have surpassed Republican challengers, while two are looking at races in which GOP challengers have the upper hand in terms of combined cash raised in the most recent quarter.”

Not a Surprise Trump Was Booed

Playbook: “Nobody ought to be surprised that the president was booed at Nats Park, in a city where more than 90% of voters choose his opponent in 2016. What was striking, though, was that the reaction came only hours after President Trump proudly announced the death of Abu Omar al-Baghdadi, the leader of ISIS, in a U.S. military raid.

“We’re not sure what the president expected to happen, but closeups of his face during the crowd’s reaction as name was announced on the stadium PA show a smile hardening into a slight scowl. How will he react today?

“It’s a sign of the president’s isolation, too, that he took only his staunchest Republican allies with him to the game, along with the first lady. Nats Park is perhaps one of the only gathering places in town that draws Republicans and Democrats in equal measure — but his box was all red."

What Trump Really Saw of the Baghdadi Raid

New York Times: “Mr. Trump described the video footage he watched from the White House Situation Room as ‘something really amazing to see.’ The experience, the president said, was ‘as though you were watching a movie.’

“What the president saw, according to military and intelligence officials, was overhead surveillance footage on several video screens that, together, provided various angles from above, and in real time… Those surveillance feeds could not show what was happening in an underground tunnel, much less detect if Mr. al-Baghdadi was whimpering or crying.”

EXCHANGE OF THE DAY

Joe Biden was interviewed by Norah O’Donnell on 60 Minutes:

O’DONNELL: President Trump has said publicly, ‘Joe Biden and his son are stone cold corrupt.’ And chances are, he’s watching this interview. Anything … you want to say to him?

BIDEN: Yeah. Mr. President, release your tax returns. Let’s see how straight you are, okay old buddy? I put out 21 years of mine. So show us your tax returns, bud, what are you hidin’? You want to deal with corruption? Start to act like it. Release your tax returns or shut up.

Trump May Release Video of Baghdadi Raid

President Trump said that he is considering releasing portions of the video of the U.S. military raid that led to the death of ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi over the weekend, The Hill reports.

Said Trump: “We’re thinking about it. We may. We may take certain parts of it and release it, yes.”

Doubts Grow Over Trump’s Dramatic Account of Raid

U.S. officials who also watched the feed of the raid on Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi’s Syrian compound “have declined to echo details” of President Trump’s macabre account of the Isis’s leader death on Saturday, including that Baghdadi was “whimpering, crying and screaming all the way,” the Guardian reports.

Will Trump Get a Baghdadi Bounce?

Jonathan Bernstein: “Trump’s extended remarks on Sunday may well have precluded that possibility. By comparing himself to previous presidents in a partisan way, Trump made it more likely that viewers would react along party lines, and that Democrats who might otherwise have praised him will now be less likely to do so. What’s more, Trump as usual got the facts wrong. Especially when what he gets wrong is self-praise — no, Trump didn’t call for killing Osama bin Laden in a 2000 book — the media is going to track it down and report it, thereby weakening the president’s intended message. It can’t help either that he revealed more about the raid than professionals think was wise, or that his own policy may have made the mission more difficult.

“That said, Trump’s approval rating has recently fallen to the lower end of his average range over the past 18 months, which suggests that some voters who tend to support him have recently turned against him. It wouldn’t be surprising if they flipped back after this.”
_____________

Sure, he'll get some bounce from this, but it won't be enough to counter the barrage that will continue to come against him from the impeachment investigation.

The top Republican on the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee will not seek reelection next year — another sign that GOP lawmakers are pessimistic about retaking the House majority in 2020.
Rep. Greg Walden (R-Ore.) served as chairman of the Energy and Commerce panel from 2017 until Democrats reclaimed control of the House early this year. In that position he helped formulate the GOP’s ultimately ill-fated plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and worked closely on bipartisan efforts to address the national opioid crisis. An owner of radio stations, he has also shepherded telecommunications legislation through the House, including a bill this year to stop robocalls.
