How much real movement has there been for impeachment.

Support for impeachment rises (but not like some think)
Trump’s overall job rating stands at 41% approve and 53% disapprove, which is similar to his 40% to 53% rating in August. Over the past 12 months, the president’s approval rating has ranged from 40% to 44% in Monmouth’s polling, while his disapproval rating has ranged from 49% to 54%.
At this time, 44% of Americans feel that Trump should be impeached and compelled to leave the presidency, while 52% disagree with this course of action. These numbers mark a shift from Monmouth’s prior poll in August (35% supported impeachment and 59% did not), but it is not the first time these results have been found in the two years Monmouth has been asking this question. This includes similar findings in March 2019 (42% for impeachment and 54% against) and July 2017 (41% for impeachment and 53% against). Current support for removing Trump from office comes from 77% of Democrats (up from 69% in August but similar to 75% in March), 41% of independents (up from 30% in August but similar to 40% in March), and 9% of Republicans (up from 2% in August but similar to 8% in March)..
“We believe Monmouth has the longest trend line of public opinion on impeachment. This helps give a broader perspective to the recent shifts. Yes, support for impeachment has increased over the last week, but it’s not significantly higher than where it has been at other points in Trump’s presidency. At least not yet,” said Murray.
The public is divided on the veracity of Trump’s claim that Biden pressured Ukrainian officials to keep them from investigating his son’s business ties. The poll finds 42% who say that Biden probably did exert this pressure and 37% say this probably did not happen, with another 22% who are unsure. Independents are slightly more likely to feel that Biden did (43%) rather than did not (31%) pressure Ukrainian officials to keep them from investigating his son.

The main reason I waited to post something regarding the impeachment polling was that most of the polling was misleading. This Monmouth poll asks the "actual" question about whether or not people believe that the President should actually be impeached and removed from office.

If you look closely at other polls, you will see that they are not actually asking if the President deserves to be actually removed from office, but rather they are being asked about whether or not people believe that there should be an impeachment "inquiry".

Let's forget for a second that there is really no such thing as an impeachment "inquiry". It's a made up thing that allows the House Democrats from having to take a vote to start formal impeachment hearings. This way, they can have all of their little meetings, subpoena people, and pretend to be actually doing what we did during previous impeachment hearings, without subjecting anyone with having to go on record.

Of course, people today are too stupid and naive to know the difference.

The reality is that much like everything else, this hysteria is largely made up and I still argue that almost nobody (other than the true blue crazies) really believes that the President committed any sort of crime in talking to the Ukrainian President. The President and many of his supporters were caught pretty flat footed by this situation, whereas many Democrats apparently knew it was coming (and had for several weeks) and therefore had a more organized line of attack.

Once things settle back down, more facts come out, and people take a step back and see this more clearly, these numbers will likely be driven fairly close down to where they have been since the release of the Mueller probe. More to the point, people have been clearly bored and becoming increasingly skeptical of impeachment talk. This might have changed things for a short time period, but I doubt it has much staying power. There simply isn't any honest to goodness crime here. Even Democrats and the liberal MSM are having issues making a phone call to the Ukrainian President seem sinister. (not that some are not trying).

Lastly, there seems to be both a floor and a ceiling on this thing. 44% is the "highest" number we have seen from Monmouth in favor of removal, and is about where things were back when people thought that the Mueller Report might find show a conspiracy. Meanwhile the 52% who oppose impeachment is near an all time low. It seems the President will maintain a clear majority of Americans who do not want to see impeachment used to remove him, and there are enough people bumping back and forth to see that number jump back up near 60%.

Trump’s Attacks Escalate

Mike Allen says President Trump’s threats and attacks against the impeachment inquiry have escalated.

Over the past 72 hours, Trump has:

*Called three times for arresting a House Democratic chair steering his impeachment inquiry, falsely claiming Rep. Adam Schiff broke the law and even suggesting he committed treason. LOL LOL

*Demanded to meet the whistleblower, which violates the anonymity guaranteed by whistleblowing laws. LOL LOL LOL LOL

*Attacked his own watchdogs, pushing an incorrect story about whistleblower forms being shadily changed. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

*Repeatedly defended as “perfect” the Ukraine call where he pushed for investigations into his political rival Joe Biden. LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL LOL

What Trump Said to Putin
October 1, 2019 at 4:01 pm EDT

A former National Security Council official speaks to Politico:
“They were pretty much what you would expect, you can take the first part of the Zelensky call with all of the over the top effusive praise and basically copy and paste onto pretty much any head of state call with Trump, whether it was Emmanuel Macron or Vladimir Putin. Every one of them knew to start the call by praising him for the thing that he had just done that week."

Of the Putin calls, the official said: “They were certainly the type of thing that you would not want in public because they were just really embarrassing from the standpoint of just national pride.”

In his official response to Rep. Eliot Engel, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Pompeo says the subpoena request “raises significant legal and procedural concerns.”

“First, your letter raises fundamental legal questions related to the authority of the Committee to compel an appearance for a deposition solely by virtue of these letters,” Pompeo wrote. “Your letter implies that you have sought to compel Department officials to appear for depositions on the identified dates, yet the Committee has not issued any subpoenas for depositions and we are not aware of any other authority by which the committee could compel appearance at a deposition.”

Pompeo also tells Engel that the subpoena did not give notice of deposition.

“Second, your letter provides a woefully inadequate opportunity for the Department and the requested witnesses to prepare,” Pompeo continued. “These individuals have retained, or may be retaining, private counsel, as is their constitutional right, and in the course of the Department’s discussions with these individuals, several have indicated that they need more time both to retain and to consult with private counsel.”

The House letters gave State Department officials one week to prepare.

Pompeo also excoriated Engel for trying “to circumvent the Executive Branch’s unquestionably legitimate constitutional interest in protecting potentially privileged information related to the conduct of diplomatic relations” by preventing State Department counsel from participating in House Democrats’ depositions of former State employees.

Pompeo also took Engel to task for providing State little time to prepare for his demands and then claiming that failure to produce the documents within that limited time “shall constitute evidence of obstruction.”

“There is no legal basis for such a threat,” Pompeo wrote. “Given the serious substantive and procedural deficiencies in the Committee’s requests, including the Committee’s apparent effort to circumvent Executive Branch constitutional interests in having Department counsel present at any depositions, the Committee’s assertion lacks any recognized legal basis. I urge you to exercise restraint in making such unfounded statements in the future.”

Like the President that you love, "we will see".

When I talk to strangers in the stores, or just around my friends, they are getting sick and tired of this President.

You are correct about one thing, is that impeachment is not based upon a difference in opinions on how to govern the country. We have elections to make that decision. Just because he's given the top one percent a tax cut.

But he is putting the nation at risk, because his policies are designed to help him win again. Asking for assistance from a foreign nation is not acceptable behavior by the President, and if he house finds that he has committed high crimes and misdemeanors, he should be impeached and removed from the office.

you've posted a variation of this claim hundreds of times, never once offering a single detailed example. and newsflash dumbass - every president seeking re-election has policies designed to forward that effort.

Asking for assistance from a foreign nation is not acceptable behavior by the President

not only is it acceptable, in this case it speaks directly to a law enforcement treaty we entered into with ukraine in 1999.

trump took an oath to protect our nation from all enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC. if the biden's are suspected of having committed crimes, that deserves investigation. the fact that joe is running for president is not relevant.

When I talk to strangers in the stores, or just around my friends, they are getting sick and tired of this President.

any stranger that your psycho ass approached would likely call a cop. and friends? you might have had a couple at one point, but like mail order, your home, your caddy, and your liver, they're long fucking gone, alky. so i'm calling bullshit on that little claim.

0linsky took the nation on a four year ride, fucking the populace every other day. and he got re-elected.

the democrats conduct themselves the way they do because they can. and they can because 95% of the media will fight tooth and nail to keep the truth from the country.

if mitch sits back and lets trump unleash the fury of hell in his own defense in the senate, trump should be fine. what we don't know is how many traitorous republicans there are. and what mitch's play will be.

The Inspector General requested an urgent visit to the house committee and the Senate committee tomorrow.

The State Department inspector general is expected to meet with staff from multiple congressional committees on Wednesday and brief them on documents related to the Trump administration's dealings with Ukraine, according to multiple reports.

Key congressional committees were notified Tuesday of the inspector general's desire to meet with them, according to a letter obtained by The Washington Post. The letter reportedly stated that Steve Linick's office wanted "to discuss and provide staff with copies of documents related to the State Department and Ukraine."

A Democratic Senate Intelligence Committee aide confirmed to The Hill that the State Department inspector general asked the panel to send staff to a meeting Wednesday but did not disclose the topic.

Another committee aide said the request involved "multiple committees" and would be "one meeting with the House and Senate." The aide did not describe the topic or the nature of the request.

A Senate Foreign Relations staffer said that committee staff will be attending the meeting.

ABC News noted that the inspector general would brief staffers on documents obtained by the department's Office of the Legal Adviser.

Pompeo has been resisting members of his staff to testify. This seems to be the senior members of the state department to testify. When he was on the Benghazi investigation, he got staff members to testify before the committee hearings.

Pompeo is putting himself in a position to defend the President.

Our President is out of his mind. It's almost like rrb is the President!

WASHINGTON — The Oval Office meeting this past March began, as so many had, with President Trump fuming about migrants. But this time he had a solution. As White House advisers listened astonished, he ordered them to shut down the entire 2,000-mile border with Mexico — by noon the next day.

The advisers feared the president’s edict would trap American tourists in Mexico, strand children at schools on both sides of the border and create an economic meltdown in two countries. Yet they also knew how much the president’s zeal to stop immigration had sent him lurching for solutions, one more extreme than the next.

Privately, the president had often talked about fortifying a border wall with a water-filled trench, stocked with snakes or alligators, prompting aides to seek a cost estimate. He wanted the wall electrified, with spikes on top that could pierce human flesh. After publicly suggesting that soldiers shoot migrants if they threw rocks, the president backed off when his staff told him that was illegal. But later in a meeting, aides recalled, he suggested that they shoot migrants in the legs to slow them down. That’s not allowed either, they told him.

“The president was frustrated and I think he took that moment to hit the reset button,” said Thomas D. Homan, who had served as Mr. Trump’s acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, recalling that week in March. “The president wanted it to be fixed quickly.”

Mr. Trump’s order to close the border was a decision point that touched off a frenzied week of presidential rages, round-the-clock staff panic and far more White House turmoil than was known at the time. By the end of the week, the seat-of-the-pants president had backed off his threat but had retaliated with the beginning of a purge of the aides who had tried to contain him.

Today, as Mr. Trump is surrounded by advisers less willing to stand up to him, his threat to seal off the country from a flood of immigrants remains active. “I have absolute power to shut down the border,” he said in an interview this summer with The New York Times.

In the Oval Office that March afternoon, a 30-minute meeting extended to more than two hours as Mr. Trump’s team tried desperately to placate him. He was cursing and shouting in frustration about the limitations on the President!

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...
