Isn't this obstruction of justice?

Since when does Congress get to decide who, what, and how our law enforcement investigates?

This is what this boils down to. Democrats instinctively understand that there side is now on the other end of the investigations here, and they simply don't like it. But there is a legal line that cannot be crossed when it comes to playing politics. You are not allowed to question the Department of Justice about their motivations regarding investigations into your Party's actions. Not without serious allegations of obstruction, tampering, and pretty much trying to overplay your authority.

The idea that you have immunity from investigations, by charging that any investigations into Democrats is "election interference" is the worst argument I have heard in quite some time. Certainly it makes no sense considering Trump and much of his campaign staff spent the entire 2016 election "under investigation" and "under surveillance".  But make no mistake, the entire left has gone full court press with this basic premise.

The State Department had not disclosed that Pompeo had been on the call with Zelensky. Democrats are also seeking to learn if State Department Counselor Ulrich Brechbuhl was listening in as well. On Friday, Democrats subpoenaed Pompeo for documents related to the administration’s dealings with Ukraine.

Thirteen minutes after the Wall Street Journal’s story on Pompeo was published, the New York Times reported that Trump sought additional foreign help with his political troubles. In a recent phone call with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, the Times reported, Trump sought information that could help discredit former special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russia’s attempts to influence the 2016 presidential election. That investigation was kicked off, in part, by the disclosure that former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos had discussed the Russian efforts with an Australian diplomat in London.

At 5:11 p.m. ET, the Washington Post reported that Attorney General William Barr also sought foreign assistance in building a case to discredit the Mueller report, by contacting British intelligence officials and personally traveling to Italy last week to meet with officials.

DOJ investigations are not election interference and any attempts to interfere with an ongoing investigation is called obstruction.

That's the law. Plain and simple.

He said our Country will never heal,” Trump tweeted, adding his own parenthetical to a quote from Robert Jeffress, an evangelical pastor and ardent Trump supporter who appeared on “Fox & Friends Weekend.”

The invocation of a civil war was met with outrage from Rep. Adam Kinzinger, R-Ill., an Air Force veteran who served in Iraq and
“I have visited nations ravaged by civil war,” Kinzinger tweeted, tagging Trump’s Twitter handle. “I have never imagined such a quote to be repeated by a President. This is beyond repugnant.”

Trump, though, did not seem interested in toning down the rhetoric.

Shortly before quoting Jeffress, Trump fired off a series of tweets attacking House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, who during a congressional hearing last week paraphrased the White House memo summarizing Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The memo was part of a whistleblower’s complaint against the president, which led to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s announcement of a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump.

“Like every American, I deserve to meet my accuser, especially when this accuser, the so-called ‘Whistleblower,’ represented a perfect conversation with a foreign leader in a totally inaccurate and fraudulent way,” Trump tweeted. “Then Schiff made up what I actually said by lying to Congress.

“His lies were made in perhaps the most blatant and sinister manner ever seen in the great Chamber,” the president continued. “He wrote down and read terrible things, then said it was from the mouth of the President of the United States. I want Schiff questioned at the highest level for Fraud & Treason.”

In his opening remarks at a committee hearing Thursday, Schiff paraphrased Trump’s message to Zelensky on the July 25 phone call in which Trump asked for help in finding dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden. Schiff didn’t claim to be quoting Trump directly and later described the remarks as part parody.

On Monday morning, Trump’s suggestion that Schiff be “questioned” for treason was escalated to the suggestion he be arrested.

“Rep. Adam Schiff illegally made up a FAKE & terrible statement, pretended it to be mine as the most important part of my call to the Ukrainian President, and read it aloud to Congress and the American people,” Trump tweeted. “It bore NO relationship to what I said on the call. Arrest for Treason?”

An impeachment trial would take place in the Senate with Chief Justice Roberts presiding and ruling on any motions.

The first motion would be motion to dismissed based on a lack of an actual crime that rises to the standards set forth in the constitution. If Democrats impeach "without" citing an actual real tangible crime that someone else has actually been convicted of... The Chief Justice could rule in favor of dismissal.

Right now the Democrats are suggesting that the President's constitutional right to have unfettered conversations with foreign leaders is criminal and rises to the level of being removed. It quite literally allows for the GOP to make up whatever the hell they want to and just impeach the next Democrat just for spite.

Roberts will have an interesting decision. If he rules that such a thing is okay then he will effectively be ruling that Congress can just impeach for whatever they want. He will be personally responsible for the political carnage moving forward. But if he rules for dismissal, it will be met with outrage from the left (which he seems highly sensitive to).

The House has the power of impeachment but it must be for "high crimes and misdemeanors". The senate has to sole power to try impeachments.

Roberts could very well rule that there is no high crime or misdemeanor in the article of impeachment but the senate will still have to vote on conviction or acquittal.

However if Roberts rules there is no high crime then the Democrat senators would be put in the uncomfortable position of trying to railroad a president without any legal justification. It could very well be a massacre for the Democrats that are up in this election cycle.

Offenses by officials also include ordinary crimes, but perhaps with different standards of proof and punishment than for nonofficials, on the grounds that more is expected of officials by their oaths of office. The word "High" refers to the office and not the offense. Indeed the offense may not even be a breach of criminal statute. See Harvard Law Review "The majority view is that a president can legally be impeached for “intentional, evil deeds” that “drastically subvert the Constitution and involve an unforgivable abuse of the presidency” — even if those deeds didn’t violate any criminal laws."

The real story:

Joe, Hunter Biden seen golfing with Ukraine gas company exec back in 2014, photo shows

EXCLUSIVE: A photo obtained by Fox News' "Tucker Carlson Tonight" shows former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter golfing in the Hamptons with Devon Archer, who served on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company Burisma Holdings with Hunter.

Earlier this month, Joe Biden told Fox News in Iowa that he never discussed his son’s foreign business dealings with him.

“I have never spoken to my son about his overseas business dealings,” Biden said, pointing the finger at President Trump. “I know Trump deserves to be investigated. He is violating every basic norm of a president. You should be asking him why is he on the phone with a foreign leader, trying to intimidate a foreign leader. You should be looking at Trump.”

Hunter Biden told The New Yorker previously that he and his father had spoken “just once” about his work in Ukraine.

A source close to Archer told Fox News the photo was taken in August 2014. Contemporaneous news reports indicate the vice president was in the Hamptons at the time.

Hunter Biden and Archer joined the Burisma Holdings board in April 2014.

This is why the Democrat are desperate to gin up impeachment.

TYPICAL GOAT FUCKING BS.....YEAH, HE'S A TEACHER IN KANSAS....NO WONDER WHY THE STATE IS SOOOOO FUCKED!!!!

Trump, of course, chose to focus on Biden’s son, not his own daughter. He has claimed that Hunter Biden “made millions of dollars from China” and “took money from China — a lot of money.” He also said that Hunter Biden walked out of China with “$1.5 billion in a fund … after one quick meeting and he flies in on Air Force Two.”
So let’s back up a bit. Hunter Biden launched a consulting firm in 2008. Then, in 2009, he co-founded another company, Rosemont Seneca Partners, with Christopher Heinz, stepson of then-Sen. John F. Kerry (D-Mass.), and Devon Archer, a Yale classmate of Heinz’s. At times, Hunter Biden and Archer did deals that did not include Heinz, who apparently was more wary of business arrangements that might attract public attention.
Archer and Hunter Biden, for instance, connected with Jonathan Li, who ran a Chinese private-equity fund. In June 2013, according to the New Yorker, Li, Archer and other partners (including Chinese entities) signed a memorandum of understanding to create a fund called BHR Partners. Hunter Biden originally was on an advisory board for BHR and was not an equity owner in the fund while Joe Biden was vice president. He later acquired a 10 percent interest in the entity overseeing the fund.

Affiliates of the advisory firm had said they planned to raise $1.5 billion, but it appears the fundraising fell far short of that.

In December 2013, Hunter Biden and one of his daughters flew from Japan to China with Joe Biden on Air Force Two. (This is what Trump referred to when he said: “He’s there for one quick meeting and he flies in on Air Force Two, I think that’s a horrible thing.”)
The vice president had diplomacy on his agenda. Hunter Biden was not spotted much, though Schweizer makes a big deal about Hunter following his father into a shop as the vice president buys an ice cream bar.

Scott, a senior Republican Senator dares to differ with you on the whistleblower.

Senate Finance Committee chair Chuck Grassley (R-IA) defended the whistleblower at the center of President Donald Trump’s Ukraine scandal on Tuesday.

Without explicitly mentioning Trump, Grassley pushed back against the President’s demands to “find out” the identity of the whistleblower who revealed Trump’s attempt to pressure the Ukrainian government to investigate 2020 rival Joe Biden.

Grassley has long championed whistleblower rights, having co-sponsored legislation to expand protections for whistleblowers and even publishing an op-ed as recently as July praising whistleblowers’ “critical part in Congress’s oversight efforts.”

“This person appears to have followed the whistleblower protection laws and ought to be heard out and protected,” Grassley said in an official statement on Tuesday. “We should always work to respect whistleblowers’ requests for confidentiality.”

The Republican senator slammed “uninformed speculation wielded by politicians,” saying that such speculation is “counterproductive and doesn’t serve the country.”

Grassley also corrected Trump and his allies’ claim that the whistleblower’s complaint was somehow illegitimate because it contained second-hand information.

“Complaints based on second-hand information should not be rejected out of hand, but they do require additional leg work to get at the facts and evaluate the claim’s credibility,” he said.

not really any ADVERTISING (unlike TDS roger)

but they did have a "reason" They were trying to get an old rich man to provide false testimony to avoid spending the rest of his life in jail.

And while he may have committed financial crimes in the past (like many politicians) he did the honorable thing and stuck to the truth. Maybe the same standard should be used on Biden and we will see how long it will take him to "sing", only difference is that he would be "singing" the truth

In other words no rush to judgement, unlike what the dems are doing. Pelosi didn't even wait for the transcript.

Glad you agree

I respectfully disagree with senator Grassley.

A whistleblower's request for confidentiality doesn't take precedent over the accused right to confront his accusers.

Otherwise, it's just star chamber justice.

Now that the ICIG has released an official statement, the “IG whistleblower form” controversy is very simple to explain

And the fact most of the media are obscuring and lying about it instead is very revealing

—The law does NOT require “firsthand knowledge” of an issue in order to report it as a “whistleblower”

But the DNI/ICIG *interpreted* the statute as requiring firsthand knowledge on at least some of the forms, even including specific guidance saying “ONLY” it would be allowed

—The ICIG admits that the “whistleblower” used the May 2018 version of the form. That’s the **same form where the guidance notes explicitly state that firsthand knowledge is required**

—So what the ICIG needs to explain is: why did it allow the “whistleblower” to submit a disclosure that (at least based on the public reporting so far) appears to be almost entirely secondhand? If the answer is “the law allows it”, OK, but your *interpretation* of that law DIDN’T

—The ICIG admits that in response to “press inquiries”, it updated its most recent whistleblower disclosure form to *eliminate* the requirement for firsthand knowledge to make it “consistent with the statute”

—In other words, the ICIG just admitted that the previous form the “WB” used was *inconsistent* with the statute because it required firsthand information

—What the ICIG/DNI also now need to explain: if the “WB” using the old May 2018 form was 100% fine & legit, why did you the specifically update the forms in response to the press asking questions about it? And not publish them with clear change/version control for transparency?

—Another question for the ICIG/DNI: why did you treat certain media differently?

You ignored @seanmdav questions about changes to the form (key point of which has since been admitted & proven accurate: that the form was changed to eliminate a firsthand knowledge requirement)

—Yet you quietly overhauled your forms & disclosure processes when a different type of media came asking questions: Collusion Media Hoaxers

And you mounted a PR offensive using those same outlets (a source tells me by giving off the record briefings “explaining” the talking pts)

—FYI those initial press inquiries appear to pre-date most public reporting on the issue suggesting like the Collusion Hoax, the “WB” story was being seeded into the media in advance. Which isn’t something you’d do if you were concerned about confidentiality or “safety” of the WB

Undercover Huber said...

SUMMARY

—ICIG recently updated its forms to eliminate firsthand knowledge for WB’s (& did so only after certain media asked)

—“WB” used May 18 form which discourages secondhand disclosures (yet ICIG accepted it)

—The IC is spinning, aided by Collusion Media, as usual

/ENDS

N.B. 1. I still think the WB claim should have been taken seriously and investigated by the ICIG/DNI given it is clear the WB held a position affording them access to privileged information and they seem to be being leaked info from multiple high ranking White House officials

N.B. 2. But such an investigation would likely have revealed the WB only had largely (or all) secondhand information, the actual transcript didn’t back up their complaint, their complaint had multiple errors (at least X5) and they and their sub-sources have a major strain of #TDS

ICIG News Release tried to clarify 1 thing & almost accidentally clarified another. Neither is new.
1. An employee who has only 2nd hand info may FILE a complaint & receive WB protection.
2. ICIG will not TRANSMIT a complaint based only on 2nd hand info. https://bit.ly/2oFJ1ZO

well alky, fortunately for America, there will never be a president felonia von pantsuit, therefore the feckless cunt never has to fear the impeachment process.

If the ICIG had not transmitted the complaint within 14 days, the WB could have submitted the complaint to the congressional intelligence committees directly but w/o the verification of the ICIG. https://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/text/50/3033 …

Most of the time I would guess that if the ICIG doesn't verify the complaint, congress wouldn't welcome the WB. In this case though, I'd bet you dollars to doughnuts the Dems would have rolled out the red carpet.

precisely. the WB is nothing more than a rumor monger with third hand knowledge of what we don't really know.

the alky - as usual - committed a significant lie of omission re: the CNBC poll:

Americans by a narrow margin oppose impeachment hearings to remove President Donald Trump from office, according to the latest CNBC All-America Economic Survey.

But the CNBC poll of 800 Americans nationwide conducted last week found a significant shift where fewer Americans are opposed to impeachment. It also found a large decline in the president’s overall and economic approval ratings.

The survey found 47% opposing impeachment hearings and 44% approving. The difference is within the poll’s 3.5% margin of error.

The results are much closer than when an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll asked the same question in December 2017, finding 41% approving of impeachment hearings and a majority 54% disapproving.

“The American people are not jumping towards impeachment,” said Micah Roberts, a partner in Public Opinion Strategies who serves as the Republican pollster for the CNBC survey. “They are cautiously moving away from opposing impeachment.”

With 9% of Americans unsure about impeachment, compared with 5% in the NBC/WSJ poll, Roberts notes slightly more growth among the percentage of Americans who are unsure about impeachment as those who favor it.

not likely voters? not registered voters?

so the alky - again, as usual - is touting a meaningless poll.

It is deeply disturbing that Adam Schiff appears to have coordinated with the “whistleblower” before the complaint was filed.

Now that would be very significant. As would if Pelosi had really seen the transcript before her 60 minute interview that she appeared to slip on.

Maybe a patriotic deep state whistleblower will emerge. Or a patriotic democratic staffer. So many threads to this and some are starting to already unravel. No need for speed.

Big need for the IG report and Barr.

American manufacturers posted the biggest contraction in September since the end of the 2007-2009 recession, reflecting a slowdown in the U.S. and global economies made worse by a tense trade war with China.

The Institute for Supply Management said its manufacturing index fell to 47.8% last month from 49.1%, marking the lowest level since June 2009. That’s when the Great Recession ended.

Impeachment support approaching danger zone for Trump: polls Oct 1st 2019

President Trump reportedly told his advisers last week that he would start worrying if national polls showed more than 50 percent of Americans supporting his impeachment. Five surveys released in the past two days show that public support for Trump’s impeachment is approaching a majority — and rising.

The polls were taken after the release of a memo summarizing a phone call in which Trump asked Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son Hunter, the basis for the impeachment inquiry launched last week by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, but before a flurry of developments late Monday afternoon gave added impetus to the investigation. Those included a report that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was among those who listened in on Trump’s July 25 call and the news that Trump also pressured Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison for information that could help discredit former special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

The surveys were framed slightly differently — some asking about support for the inquiry, others about impeachment outright — and the results varied, but in all cases the trends were unfavorable to the president.

• A CBS News poll found that 55 percent of Americans support the impeachment inquiry, while 45 percent disapprove. Among Democrats, 87 percent support the inquiry versus 13 percent who do not. Among Republicans, 23 percent support the impeachment inquiry, while 77 percent do not. In terms of Trump’s impeachment, 42 percent of those polled believe he deserves to be impeached, while 36 percent believe he does not. About a quarter (22 percent) feel it’s too soon to say.

• A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 45 percent of American adults believe Trump should be impeached, up from 37 percent who did a week ago. The survey found that 41 percent believe he should not be impeached; 15 percent said they “don’t know.” Among Democrats, 74 percent said Trump should be impeached — up 8 points over the past week — while 13 percent of Republicans said they supported impeachment, up 3 points.

• A CNN poll found that 47 percent believe Trump “should be impeached and removed from office,” up from 41 percent in May. The survey found that 45 percent disagree, down from 54 percent in the May poll. Part of the shift can be attributed to younger Republicans. Among Republicans and Republican-leaning independents under age 50, support for impeaching Trump and removing him from office has risen from 9 percent in May to 22 percent now, CNN’s poll found, while views among older Republicans and Republican leaners have held about even.

• A Quinnipiac poll showed a split (47 percent to 47 percent) among voters who support impeaching and removing President Trump from office and those who do not. But it represented a 10-point jump in support for his impeachment and removal compared with last week, when the same survey found just 37 percent supported it, compared with 57 percent who did not. The poll also asked respondents whether they thought Trump believes he is above the law. A majority (56 percent) said yes; 42 percent said no.

• A Monmouth University poll found support for Trump’s impeachment (44 percent) up 9 points since August, when just 35 percent supported it. Monmouth’s survey was the ONLY ONE that found a majority (52 percent) not supporting the president’s impeachment.

1/ This article proves that the CIA whistleblower's claims about procedures to safeguard transcripts of POTUS phone calls with foreign officials is false.

https://www.politico.com/news/2019/10/01/white-house-trump-leaks-code-015194

2/Read this: "The Trump White House upgraded the security of the National Security Council’s top-secret codeword system in the spring of 2018, according to two former Trump White House officials familiar with the matter, as part of an effort to ferret out and deter leaks."

3/ So we now know this did NOT occur after the transcript of the Ukraine call was written up.

4/ I didn't know the timing of this security upgrade since I started at the NSC in late May 2018. I knew these transcripts were tightly controlled and that steps to do this started in the spring of 2017 after at least 2 of them were leaked.

5/This was an appropriate decision to protect sensitive information at great risk of being leaked. The president is free to do this since he has ultimate classification authority. The whistleblower's charge that the transcripts were "locked down" as part of a coverup is a fraud.

****************************
Another BIG problem with the fraudulent "whistleblower". Almost like he had an agenda...

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Oh and I thought the "pastor" said this included first-hand information and he still has been silent about what that information was.

LOL LOL LOL I never said I myself had any first-hand information. I said the whistleblower heard from people who had first-hand information from other people, and the preliminary examiners have already found the whistleblower's claims to be "credible" and so those people will be investigated for the first-hand information they possess.

Poor, poor Cowardly.

He will believe the Liar in Chief no matter what.

"The IC IG cannot transmit information via the ICWPA based on an employee's second-hand knowledge of wrongdoing."

But the whistleblower offered both first-hand and second-hand information that held up to investigation as "credible."

But DO repeat the lie again. It worked for Hitler and for Goebbels.
September 30, 2019 at 9:10 PM

So I simply asked what that first hand information is that you are posting about? And you must have heard about the form getting changed based on press complaints after this WB came up. Or the now 6 errors in his report. Or the fact he footnoted a group financed by Soros multiple times. And that the IG disagreed with the IC IG. And that the IC IG has connections to the Russian collusion HOAX.

No one I have heard has said he has important and credible first hand information. So are you saying he has insignificant first-hand information?

You do sure repeat things like Hitler and Goebbels did. And I think they are lies. And you are projecting like democrats routinely do. So I ask again what is that first-hand information you are claiming? I didn't see mention of it. And it is supposed to be URGENT. Or are just posting blindly from your political savior sites?

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

cowardly king Obama is too stupid to see that what he is "demanding" is irrelevant.

The question is not whether I have first-hand information. The question is only whether the whistle-blower told the truth regarding the people whom he said he heard report that THEY have first-hand information of Trump's malfeasance.

The initial examination of the whistleblower's claims found them "credible."

cowardly king obama said...
