More classic Democratic Media narrative collusion

So quite obviously we have many many people unhappy with how Adam Schiff and the Democrats are running their "impeachment inquiry". Apparently they believe that an impeachment inquiry is a behind the scenes situation where you do things behind closed doors, and with a limited amount of congressional members allowed to participate.

  • The Democrats do not feel it necessary to allow members of Congress to hear testimony or even review the transcripts.
  • But they do find it necessary to leak information to the press. Not objective transcripts or the whole story... just what they want the press to report.

Yesterday the GOP members of the House decided to crash the Party. They were there as Representatives of their constituents to listen first hand to the testimony of whatever witness was going to be on the stand.

Democrats would not allow the testimony to continue, because they do not want other members of Congress to get first hand information. They desperately want to control the narrative and control the procedure. Allowing the full Congress to get involved would take that away.

So let's make one thing clear. THE WITNESS COULD HAVE TESTIFIED! In fact, that was sort of the entire point of these other House Representatives. To be there when she did. The decision to not have her testify was on Schiff and the Democrats.

But Schiff tells WaPo, Politico, and NYT that the talking points memo is NOT that the GOP members wanted to participate, but that they wanted to "shut it down". So that's what you hear, and that is what is parroted.

I hope the GOP continues to show up. Every day. Schiff and the Democrats will then have to make a decision to just stop everything, or continue with a full room (and no chance of being able to sneak things by people).

This is just like Watergate if Watergate happened in 1840 before radio and tv so the public could watch and listen.

And if Trump had actually done anything rising to impeachment level and if the House had voted.

It is also just like a show trial would be run in a banana republic.

Very shameful and the public will soon realize and react.

For those of you in the back, during the impeachment process, the duties of the House House of Representatives are similar to those of a Grand Jury.
Grand jury proceedings are secret. No judge is present and the defendant has no right to present his case or to be informed of the proceedings at all. While the proceedings are documented, the records are sealed.

They are following the law as determined by the house of Representatives.

If a witness’s opening statement were all we could see, think how differently we would feel about Bob Mueller’s testimony in July if all we saw was him reading his statement. The Q&A was revealing, indeed some might say devastating.

Robert Giriadi was sentenced to 97 months in jail for leaking Grand Jury testimony.

I suppose anyone caught leaking any information from these inquiries should be indicted and sent to jail?

No? I thought so...

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Btw the house of Representatives has the authority to conduct their hearings in secret. Members of both parties are present in the hearing room. They each have 45 minutes to cross examine, usually with staff lawyers or the members.

Then they get another 30 minute session.

They can leak information because they are not violating the law.

The house of Representatives sets the rules. Scott A**hole, this is similar to a grand jury investigation, but the house of Representatives sets the rules.

Twelve House Republicans who stormed a closed-door impeachment hearing in protest on Wednesday already had permission to attend.

Almost every one was an old white man.

They did not address the allegations against President Donald Trump in the impeachment inquiry, which centers on his request to Ukraine's president to investigate Joe Biden, the former vice president and a 2020 Democratic challenger to Trump.

But as Business Insider's Kelly McLaughlin highlighted, there are longstanding rules that witnesses are supposed to be interviewed in a way that can stay classified.

Axios and BuzzFeed News reported that 12 of those Republicans were actually already able to attend the hearing because they sit on relevant committees, including the Oversight or Foreign Affairs committee:

Paul Gosar of Arizona

Mark Green of Tennessee

Jody Hice of Georgia

Jim Jordan of Ohio

Fred Keller of Pennsylvania

Carol Miller of West Virginia

Ralph Norman of South Carolina

Mark Meadows of North Carolina

Scott Perry of Pennsylvania

Steve Watkins of Kansas

Ron Wright of Texas

Lee Zeldin of New York

The house of Representatives has the authority to conduct the investigation into high crimes and misdemeanors as they decide.

Personally I think they have to hold public hearings within a week or so. As you should know is that this is how politics work.

They held secret meetings during the Benghazi investigation, and you didn't have a problem with that!

The house majority sets the rules.

Pelosi is playing a smart sophisticated approach to the investigation into the abuse of power by the President.

Trump actually wants the house to keep having secret meetings, because people like you will never desert him if they keep holding secret meetings.

But Pelosi is playing a better game of poker than he can. Remember that Trump is not an experienced politician. She is.

"I got into this race in April to really give voice to the forgotten people of our country: the workers who have been left behind, the businesses who have been left behind, the people who need health care or aren’t getting a quality education, or are saddled by tremendous debt. I'm proud of this campaign because I believe we’ve done that. We’ve given voice to the forgotten communities and the forgotten people in the United States."

Pentagon official corroborated damning quid-pro-quo testimony against Trump: reportPublished 1 min ago on October 24, 2019By Brad Reed

Pentagon official Laura Cooper testified on Wednesday at the House of Representatives’ impeachment inquiry, and one reporter says that she largely corroborated the damning testimony delivered by ambassador Bill Taylor.

Kate Brannen, the managing editor at Just Security and a former reporter at Foreign Policy and Politico, says her sources claim that Cooper told House investigators that “there was unanimous support from Trump’s Cabinet and the interagency to supply Ukraine with security assistance” but “the White House withheld it anyway.”

Even more damning, reports Brannen, Cooper testified that “she was made aware of a quid pro quo between the security assistance and a commitment from Ukraine to investigate the Bidens” and she said that the Pentagon “made it clear to the White House that by withholding funds without congressional authorization, it was at risk of violating the law.”

Cooper this week defied instructions from the Department of Defense to not cooperate in the House impeachment probe, and she testified even though Republicans led by Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) disrupted her hearing by storming into the SCIF located in the House of Representatives.

From a friend and a lawyer.

Maybe some people understand this but I feel like a lot of people don’t. As usual, also, the mainstream media is not helping. If I weren’t in the legal field, I wouldn’t know this.

The House is not conducting “hearings.” These are depositions and depositions are private. It’s a procedure that is undertaken before a trial, that puts testimony of witnesses on the record so there are no surprises at a trial.

The parties, in this case, are the committees involved and the witnesses. The committee members are all allowed to have counsel in attendance to ask questions on their behalf. Any and all questions they want to ask.

Many House members, including republicans do in fact have attorneys with them in these depositions.

Despite the claims of the Brooks Brothers who staged dramatic theater yesterday at the depositions, there are even republicans with attorneys in the depositions.

There are 47 republicans in these depositions. Trump supporters, feel free to fact check me on that number.

These depositions are on the record. They will be transcribed and there will be public testimony from these witnesses.

Just be aware when the media and certain politicians are making this out to be more dramatic than it really is, this is standard legal procedure. It takes place in legal venues everyday.

Stay focused everyone and most importantly, stay informed.

Republicans’ defense of President Trump grew more frantic and disjointed Wednesday, with House members storming a closed-door meeting, delaying the testimony of an impeachment witness as the GOP grappled with a growing abuse-of-power scandal centered on the president.
A group of Trump’s congressional allies escalated their complaints about the impeachment inquiry by barging into a secure facility on Capitol Hill where a Pentagon official was to testify before the House Intelligence Committee.
Their intrusion, which caused the testimony to be delayed for about five hours over security concerns, came a day after the top U.S. diplomat in Ukraine testified under oath that the White House had threatened to withhold military aid unless the Ukrainian government announced investigations for Trump’s political benefit.

The testimony undercut Trump’s claims of his “perfect” dealings with Ukraine and appeared to push Republican lawmakers into a more aggressive stance as they sought to defend the president from his greatest legal and political threat yet.

“I led over 30 of my colleagues into the SCIF where Adam Schiff is holding secret impeachment depositions,” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said Wednesday morning on Twitter, referring to the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility. “Still inside — more details to come.”
The lawmakers staged the dramatic protest while making process arguments that sidestepped the substance of the central allegations underpinning the impeachment inquiry. Democrats accused the protesting members of compromising security by taking their phones into the secure area, where cellphones are barred.
