Opps! Not a bombshell, huh?

Moreover, Morrison stated that it he was one of those who suggested that this conversation be placed on the NSA secured server due to the fact that he believed that it would be leaked by resistance players within the executive branch or provided to Democrats for them to leak. Morrison contradicted the testimony of Taylor with he suggested that the transcripts are entirely accurate and reflect what took place on the call.

Of course, Morrison was wearing a suit, rather than a military outfit.

Morrison suggests that the Zelensky would not have known that any military aid was being held up and that he heard nothing alarming on the call. He also countered several of the points made by Taylor, suggesting that he (Morrison) never met privately with the Ukrainian NSA, and that Sondland never met with or asked Zelensky to make any statements regarding Burisma. Morrison does suggest that the issues with Burisma were discussed and that the Prosecutor General had agreed to look into that case.

Obviously, this is going to be the game. Both sides are effectively going to suggest the same basic known concept (that there were discussions regarding investigations of the 2016 election interference and discussions regarding Burisma and that there was a decision to withhold the last $400 million until the President got a better handle on Zelensky).  But none of this, of course, will be anything "new" or "revealing". It's exactly what we heard on from the transcripts of the call and exactly what is stipulated by both sides.

The difference is that one side is going to see nothing inherently wrong with the process, while the other is going to pretend it's the worst thing any President has ever done in our 242 year existence. After all, in theory, the removal of Trump would be the very first time that has ever happened. Apparently none of the other 44 Presidents (sans Nixon) did anything quite this.....

improper!

Tim Morrison, the top Russia and Europe adviser on President Trump’s National Security Council, on Thursday corroborated the testimony of a senior U.S. diplomat who last week offered House impeachment investigators the most detailed account to date for how Trump tried to use his office to pressure Ukraine to investigate former vice president Joe Biden, according to people familiar with his deposition.
Morrison told impeachment investigators that the account offered by William B. Taylor Jr., the acting ambassador to Ukraine, is accurate. He said that he alerted Taylor to a push by Trump and his deputies to withhold both security aid and a White House visit for the Ukrainian president until Ukraine agreed to investigate the Bidens and interference in the 2016 presidential election, said one person, who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe sensitive discussions.
Morrison, who told colleagues Wednesday that he plans to leave the Trump administration, said he did not necessarily view the president’s demands as improper or illegal, but rather problematic for U.S. policy in supporting an ally in the region.

Trump’s Base Isn’t That Excited About Him
October 31, 2019 at 2:18 pm EDT

Aaron Blake looks at the latest Associated Press/NORC poll and suggests the most troubling finding for President Trump “is this one: 41% of Republicans say that Trump doesn’t make them feel ‘excited.’ A strong majority (58%) says Trump does make them feel excited, but this is still 4 in 10 Republicans who aren't excited about their Republican president.

That's hardly the kind of base discipline you would want to brag about. And it's a far cry from raucous support seen at Trump's rallies."

Tillerson Says Says Climate Change Will Be ‘With Us Forever More’

“It’s rare for a current or former leader of one of the world’s largest energy producers to testify under oath about climate change. That’s why a New York courtroom was packed on Wednesday to see ex-Exxon Mobil Corp. Chief Executive Officer Rex Tillerson take the witness stand and explain that the company knew for years how it was a significant threat to the world,” Bloomberg reports.

Said Tillerson:
“We knew, we knew it was a real issue. We knew it was a serious issue and we knew it was one that’s going to be with us now, forevermore, and it’s not something that was just suddenly going to disappear off of our concern list because it is going to be with us for certainly well beyond my lifetime.”

White House Official Willing to Testify Publicly

ABC News: “Vindman, the first current White House official to cooperate with House impeachment investigators and appear on Capitol Hill for a closed-door deposition, is willing to testify publicly in the next phase of the inquiry.

“Vindman, the first witness to appear on Capitol Hill with firsthand knowledge of the call, has not yet been formally contacted by House impeachment investigators about testifying in public.”

HE HAS NOTHING TO HIDE.

Funny that the federalist did not report the following testimony contradicting he had no concern......BWAAAAAAAAA!!!!

Morison twice reached out to the National Security Council’s attorneys with apparent concerns about Trump’s conversations pertaining to Ukraine policy, according to various witness’ testimony. People familiar with his deposition said that Morrison reported the July 25 call between Trump and Zelensky — as another White House official, Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, had done. In September, Morrison also alerted NSC lawyers about a separate conversation between Trump and Sondland, according to Taylor’s testimony to Congress, though his rationale remains unclear.
Democrats hope Morrison’s testimony will take away an often-cited Republican complaint that many of the accounts from U.S. officials describing a quid pro quo are secondhand. Taylor mentioned Morrison’s name 15 times in the 15-page opening statement of his congressional testimony, portraying him as an official often in the know about critical U.S. policy in Ukraine.

One of these stories is correct.....!!!!!!!

U.S.—Trump recently shared a meme that showed him riding the "Hero Dog" into a space battle against several deadly threats from among the stars.

"AMERICAN HERO!" Trump tweeted when he posted the image, along with a winky face. The picture shows Trump fending off myriad threats, from Dune's gigantic sandworm and the Beast from beloved 1983 classic Krull to a Cylon Basestar and a Xenomorph.

Trump thought the image would be taken in a light-hearted manner, but he couldn't have been more wrong.

A red light began blaring in the offices of The New York Times as soon as the image was posted. "Looks like we've got a live one, boys," said one editor. "Err--I mean, non-gender-conforming persons. Let's fact-check this puppy." An army of fact-checkers then got to work, running the image through advanced fact-checking software. The Times recently had a huge supercomputer installed for this purpose, and they put it to work.

Sure enough, many of the pixels seemed not to line up quite right, plus fact-checkers discovered that several elements of the image were entirely fictional.

"The presence of a Cylon Basestar in the image casts doubt on its authenticity right away," said Bart Tucker, head fact-checker at The Washington Post. "We were also able to trace the image of the sandworm to the cover of Avalon Hill's 1979 board game Dune, so we can discredit that element of the space battle in any case."

Further historical research suggested that nearly every element of the picture was fake, from TIE fighters and the Death Star to the looming Borg Cube.

"This president is trying to mislead the people with this meme," said a CNN spokesperson. "We are only OK with politicians who mislead people with regards to the effects of their healthcare policies or their Native American heritage, not presidents who tell jokes and have fun."

Well Denny...

Did "Morrison" actually testify to any of what these other people claimed he did or didn't do? Just because there is some anonymous source looking to undercut Morrison's testimony, doesn't mean that the testimony didn't happen.

So I would say that the story regarding what Morrison told Congress is entirely true... you might not believe that Morrison is telling the truth (which is your prerogative) but that doesn't' change that it WAS his testimony.

The problem is that many Democrats were thinking this guy was going to help their case, and quite obviously he didn't. Mainly because he put forth an opinion that differs from the opinions of the deep state resistance players.

Again Denny...

This is not that hard.

Everyone is going to testify to pretty much the same set of facts.

The difference is that some people are going to see it as business a usual, while others are demanding it's the worst thing ANY PRESIDENT (besides Nixon) has ever done while in the White House.

I would suspect that the truth is much closer to the former than the latter.

The Federalist reported on Morrison's testimony.

What you suggest they omitted was in regards to what other people testified to. So I guess that depends entirely on your perspective. It's wild speculation and lots of opinion.

Not news reporting.

If Morrison is providing his first hand accounts of events...
Then in any court of law that would take precedent over second hand accounts.

for instance, the idea that Taylor stated he met with someone is less credible than Morrison stating he never did. Unless you can actually prove that a meeting took place, in a court of law the "second hand" testimony would be considered "hearsay" and never even heard. 8

Simple sport:

Person one states: Person two told me A,B, and C happened.
Person two states: I never told Person one this, and A,B, and C never happened.

That makes person one's testimony hearsay and inadmissible.

Opening Statement of Timothy Morrison

Before the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the House Committee on Oversight and Reform

October 31, 2019

In my current position, I understood our primary U.S. policy objective in Ukraine was to take advantage of the once-in-a-generation opportunity that resulted from the election of President Zelensky and the clear majority he had gained in the Ukrainian Rada to see real anti-corruption reform take root. The Administration’s policy was that the best way for the United States to show its support for President Zelensky’s reform efforts was to make sure the United States’ longstanding bipartisan commitment to strengthen Ukraine’s security remained unaltered, it is easy to forget here in Washington, but impossible in Kyiv, that Ukraine is still under armed assault by Russia, a nuclear-armed state. We also tend to forget that the United States had helped convince Ukraine to give up Soviet nuclear weapons in 1994. United States security sector assistance (from the Departments of Defense and State) is, therefore, essential to Ukraine. Also essential is a strong and positive relationship with Ukraine at the highest levels of our respective governments.

In my role as Senior Director for European Affairs, I reported directly to former Deputy National Security Advisor, Dr. Charles Kupperman, and former National Security Advisor, Ambassador John Bolton. I kept them fully informed on matters that I believed merited their awareness or when I felt I needed some direction. During the time relevant to this inquiry, I never briefed the President or Vice President on matters related to Ukrainian security. It was my job to coordinate with the U.S. Embassy Chief of Mission to Ukraine William Taylor, Special Representative for Ukraine Negotiations Kurt Volker, and other interagency stakeholders in the Departments of Defense and State of Ukrainian matters.

My primary responsibility has been to ensure federal agencies had consistent messaging and policy guidance on national security issues involving European and Russian affairs. As Dr. Fiona Hill and I prepared for me to succeed her, one of the areas we discussed was Ukraine. In that discussion, she informed me of her concerns about two Ukraine processes that were occurring: the normal interagency process led by the NSC with the typical department and agency participation and a separate process that involved chiefly the U.S. Ambassador to the European Union. Dr. Hill told me that Ambassador Sondland and President Trump’s personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, were trying to get President Zelensky to reopen Ukrainian investigations into Burisma. At the time, I did not know what Burisma was or what the investigation entailed. After the meeting with Dr. Hill, I googled Burisma and learned that it was a Ukrainian energy company and that Hunter Biden was on its board. I also did not understand why Ambassador Sondland would be involved in Ukraine policy, often without the involvement of our duly-appointed Chief of Mission, Ambassador Bill Taylor.

My most frequent conversations were with Ambassador Taylor because he was the U.S. Chief of Mission in Ukraine and I was his chief conduit for information related to White House deliberations, including security sector assistance and potential head-of-state meetings. This is a normal part of the coordination process.

Titled "Trump lures GOP senators on impeachment with cold cash," the article outlined how the president is turning to his large network of donors to raise funds for a few senators facing difficult re-election campaigns in 2020. as with free speech, i'm an absolutist when it comes to our other constitutional rights including due process. i might personally despise a particular defendant, but would insist upon a fair trial because that's how we operate around here.

the part that you're missing in this entire debacle is that schiff, pelosi et. al., MUST game the fucking rules because their case is a joke. if their case against trump had even a modicum of merit, the facts allowed in evidence from both sides would be allowed to speak for themselves, democrats would have a significant amount of momentum and facts on their side, and the chance for actual impeachment would be far greater. and your prediction of several GOP'ers joining the dems in the vote might have had a chance.

iow's, by behaving as they have been, schiff and pelosi have made it clear that they really don't have a case. not one that stands up to scrutiny and has any chance of securing a conviction.

this entire clusterfuck is being done FOR SHOW.

as al green made clear on MSDNC recently, you guys cannot beat trump at the ballot box. your field of candidates is the biggest fucking joke we've seen since forever. and specific to your favorite - that whore kamalatoe - she's fucking DONE.

under the current set of circumstances, no. of course not.

you're demanding that schiff be allowed to subpoena information, cherry pick through it to cobble together evidence without context, allow no exculpatory evidence in the process, not allow the white house to testify to the information provided in a public hearing, and otherwise give full advantage to schiff as to how he proceeds with the information subpoenaed.

a first year law school student residing at the bottom of their class in a fourth-rate law school could tell you that this was a fucking sham, alky.

this is truly a soviet style kangaroo court. having said that, i can see why democrats are so quick to embrace this process as it's the way the left has been conducting themselves regarding Title IX proceedings against students in our universities for years. this shit was accelerated within higher ed during the 0linsky regime so as a point of fact, it's really nothing new. students falsely accused of a myriad of offenses were offered no ability to question their accuser, offer evidence in their own defense, have legal counsel represent them, etc. this is no different other than it's playing out at the highest levels of our government.

democrats MUST squelch dissent and hinder free speech and our constitutional rights in order to achieve their goals since they can never achieve their desired outcomes via an honest and truthful due process.

(CNN)A group of climate activists crossing the Atlantic by sailboat to a UN summit in Chile were shocked to learn the event was canceled -- four weeks into their grueling voyage.

The 36 young environmentalists set off from Amsterdam on October 2, using a sailboat in order to highlight the impact of flying on greenhouse gas emissions.
They had completed more than half of their seven-week journey to the UN Climate Conference (COP25) in Santiago, Chile, which was scheduled to take place in early December.
However Chile's President Sebastián Piñera announced Wednesday that the country would no longer host the summit, amid protests that have left at least 20 people dead and led to the resignation of eight cabinet ministers.

Now that the sham impeachment vote has taken place, some are telling Trump to start releasing transcripts of pres Obama's calls with Russia, Ukraine and Iran. Good idea.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

If during the Senate trial, of course Schiff should appear if he is requested to appear.

Commonsense said...

Well one doesn't generally contribute to the campaign of their political opponents but other than that there is no "condition" on the donation and it's perfectly legal.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

their case is a joke.

Multiple witnesses, including one who actually participated in the phone call stated that the President solicited interference in the next election, from a foreign power.

Even though quid Pro quo is not a crime, it is unconstitutional. He should be indicted and convicted and removed from office. Preferably in hand cuffs.

Winning;

Nonfarm payrolls rose by 128,000 in October as the U.S. economy overcame the weight of the autoworkers’ strike and created jobs at a pace well above expectations.

Even with a decline of 42,000 in the motor vehicles and parts industry, the pace of new jobs well exceeded the estimate of 75,000 from economists surveyed by Dow Jones. The loss of jobs came due to the General Motors strike that has since been settled. That job loss itself was less than the 50,000

A mixed bag but overall good news.

*Change in non-farm payrolls: +128,000 vs. +85,000 expected and 180,000 in September

*Change in manufacturing payrolls: -36,000 vs. -55,000 expected and -5,000 in September

*Unemployment rate: 3.6% vs. 3.6% expected and +3.5% in September

*Average hourly earnings month-on-month: +0.2% vs. +0.3% expected and 0.0% in September

*Average hourly earnings year-on-year: +3.0% vs. +3.0% expected and 3.0% in September

Since part of the defense is that Trump is not doing anything that was done by past presidents, information on Obama's abuse of power is going to be introduce.

Including authorizing a spy operation on the Trump presidential campaign. That's a classic abuse of power example.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

That is purely political.

The house of representatives shall determine if the President has committed high crimes or misdemeanors.

Solicitation of information to influence the election is Unconstitutional.

You are parroting the talking points by the President and his pathological supporters who lost the last election in the house of representatives.

Probably going to have a real interesting conversation with a "whistler" soon too. Schiff will then shit bricks till his eyes pop out.

LOL KD, everyone including bleeding hearts say the same things, varying only on WHO is getting lower taxes, and WHICH regulations. And Trump hasn't even said that much. If that's your idea of Trump's agenda, you've proven that you don't really have a clue about what he's going to do. Trump himself doesn't have a clue about it, as much as he's changed his mind during and since the election."

And a relevant fact is that Trump uses the word "favor" a LOT. I heard someone who said he had documented hundreds of times. I guess you can try new impeachment strategies using "favor" till you are BLUE in the FACE. Which you obviously are.

Too bad you will never get the chance to do that to QUID PRO JOE or QUID PRO HO. Trump will crush any democrat opponent. Especially when apparent facts are confirmed and the democrats having jumped off the cliff.

U.S. Code § 30121.Contributions and donations by foreign nationals

One could make the argument that the law itself is an unconstitutional violation of the first amendment but we'll leave that for another time. Assuming that it is constitutional:

1. No money was donated to the Trump campaign from a foreign entity.
2. No foreign even promise to contribute money.
3. So that leaves "thing of value". In order for it to be a thing of value you have to be able to place a monetary value on it. Nowhere in the conversation was a thing of value mention. What Trump did was ask for Ukraine help in an investigation into foreign interference in the 2016 election and the accusation that he withheld military aid until Ukraine publicly declare they are starting an investigation. There are two problems with this. a) If the accusation is true it's just a standard diplomatic quid pro quo and not a campaign contribution so it doesn't fall under the law and b) The "quid" and the "pro quo" never happened. Ukraine never started an investigation nor was military aid held up. It was delivered as originally scheduled.

Morrison Confirms Quid Pro Quo
October 31, 2019 at 4:32 pm EDT

“A National Security Council aide testified on Thursday that a top diplomat who was close to President Trump told him that a package of military assistance for Ukraine would not be released until the country committed to investigating Mr. Trump’s political rivals, corroborating a key episode at the center of the impeachment inquiry,” the New York Times reports.

“The closed-door deposition by Timothy Morrison, who announced his resignation on Wednesday on the eve of his appearance before impeachment investigators, suggests that a Trump-appointed ambassador proposed a quid pro quo in which security assistance money allocated by Congress would be provided only in exchange for the political investigations the president was seeking. His account confirmed the one given last week by Ambassador William B. Taylor Jr., the top American diplomat in Ukraine, during his private testimony.”

Aaron Blake: If Republicans think Tim Morrison’s testimony is good news for Trump, they’re grasping at straws.

A guy told a guy an opinion. That didn't age well.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Where did you steal that?

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The problem with this is that the solicitation of help from a foreign nation is unconstitutional, whether or not the money was withheld or not.

I didn't steal this.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Federal law prohibits a foreign national from directly or indirectly making a “contribution or donation of money or other thing of value” in connection with a U.S. election, and prohibits a person from soliciting, accepting or receiving such a contribution or donation from a foreign national. Federal law defines “contribution” to include “any gift … of money or anything of value made by any person for the purpose of influencing any election for Federal office.” And the FEC by regulation defines “solicit” to mean “to ask, request, or recommend, explicitly or implicitly, that another person make a contribution, donation, transfer of funds, or otherwise provide anything of value.”

And that’s all the law requires. Whether or not Ukraine came through, whether or not the communications involved a quid pro quo, the solicitation of a thing of value from the Ukraine President in connection with a Ukraine is a violation of the law.

https://www.justsecurity.org/66277/the-quid-is-a-crime-no-need-to-prove-pro-quo-in-ukrainegate/

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

But we have a person who listened to the conversation with the President of Ukraine.

Commonsense said...

The problem with this is that the solicitation of help from a foreign nation is unconstitutional

Well we're in luck because it is not unconstitutional. In fact practically the only limit the constitution puts on a president's authority to conduct foreign policy is that treaties have to be confirmed by the senate.

Something that was regularly ignored by Barack Obama by the way.

Presidents can ask favors of foreign nations until the cows come home and it's perfectly legal and proper. And in return the president can grant favors to foreign nations. There's term for that.

Oh yeah, quid pro quo.
