This is worth taking a closer look at

Brought up by sense in a comment thread...

I think this gets to the heart of the matter here. I believe that you have your partisans on either end of the spectrum representing the 38%  who say this is an "impeachable offense" and the 31% who say there was "nothing wrong".  These are the sorts of cut and dried, open and closed, absolute answers you would expect from the Never-Trumpers (who believe his daily breathing is an impeachable offense) and the true Trump fans (who probably believe he could shoot someone and get away with it). While I wouldn't generally think of our country being nearly 70% partisan, I think we are getting much closer to that number since President Trump was elected.

The other answer, however, is the one that Democrats and their liberal cronies in the media do not want to allow. Making it a "binary" choice is how they want to frame this debate. Basically they want to lump anyone who is generally believe his actions were "improper" or "outside the norms of the office" with those who believe the actions are illegal, and impeachable. In their minds, only those who see absolutely nothing wrong with his action should be opposed to impeachment. If you take "any" issue with what he did, then you need to be on the side of impeachment... as if impeachment is little more than a scolding.

Nonsense.

The fact of the matter is that politicians do things that are improper, unethical, and even borderline illegal every day. I probably found literally dozens of actions by the Obama Administration that were obviously unethical and outside the bounds of normal behavior, but I never once called for impeachment. I believe that Adam Schiff's actions throughout this entire charade have been unethical to the degree that he couldn't find "proper" and "normal" with GPS and a self driving car. But that doesn't mean I feel he needs to be impeached. You want "abuse of power" then look no further to how the House Majority is treating the House Minority and the man they are lynching? The entire impeachment process concocted by the Democrats is improper, abnormal, and more than just borderline unethical. They have been secretive, breaking their own rules, and placing the President on trial without any real process, much less any due process. It's a travesty.

So let's admit that what the President did was dubious, even if it was fundamentally legal. I take zero issue with him asking the Ukrainian Government to assist with any DOJ investigation into the 2016 election. No issue what-so-ever. Nobody should take issues with that. But in terms of the Burisma Holding investigation, I think he showed bad judgement. While I understand that it might have some relevance to possible corruption by people with the last name of Biden, it's basically a request for a country to open an investigation into one of their own companies, which quite frankly should be none of our business.

But make no mistake, asking Ukraine to reopen an investigation (that the US Government is not involved in) isn't fundamentally different from demanding Ukraine fire a prosecutor (that was not working with the US Government). In other words, Trump did nothing better or worse than what Quid Pro Joe Biden did when Biden threatened to withhold aid if Ukraine did not make an internal employment termination. Both Trump and Biden should have stayed out of Ukrainian business, but neither of them deserve to be impeached because of it.

At the end of day, the most certainly can be a very large area of grey where people can agree that politicians do things that are improper, outside the norms, and even unethical, but that those actions are not going to lead to impeachment. As strange as it may seem (considering most people would get fired for being unethical on the job) we have accepted that politicians are somewhat corrupt and that their ultimate judgement falls on that day in early November when the public goes to the polling places and casts their vote. They are either reelected or they are not. That is their trial.

Vindman Testified Trump Personally Blocked Ukraine Aid
October 30, 2019 at 4:27 pm EDT

Top White House Ukraine expert Alexander Vindman told congressional investigators he was convinced President Trump was personally blocking $400 million in military aid to Ukraine to force that country to publicly announce an investigation into Joe Biden and his family, CNN reports.
_____________

John Bolton Called to Testify in Impeachment Probe

“House impeachment investigators on Wednesday summoned John Bolton, President Trump’s former national security adviser, and two other top White House officials for depositions early next month,” the New York Times reports.

“The letters took the form of voluntary requests, rather than subpoenas.

“Based on the accounts of witnesses who have already spoken with investigators, Mr. Bolton could be a marquee witness. They have described how he was alarmed in real time about the actions of Mr. Trump’s private lawyer, Rudolph W. Giuliani, and other administration officials close to Mr. Trump. Mr. Bolton left his position in September amid disagreements with Mr. Trump.”

well, if democrats get their way one thing is certain -

going forward, every single presidential conversation, discussion, contact, memo, letter, email, or whatever that contains all or in part anything related to foreign aid is now an impeachable offense.

several precedents are being set here and in the future ALL must be enforced.

in fact, when the next democrat is sworn in as president they need to be handed articles of impeachment as soon as they say "so help me God."

Your a very good dancer who has avoided the Coldheartedtruth about the President.

The house of Representatives has the authority and the right to investigate and impeach the President for high crimes and misdemeanors.

Comparing the allegations against Biden family members is irrelevant because right now Donald Trump is the President of the United and he swore allegiance to the Constitution.

He has violated his oath and should be impeached and convicted of a high crime or misdemeanor.

It's not a coup. It's not an attempt to overturn the last election, because Hillary Clinton will not be the President.

If any future President solicits dirt on his opponents should be impeached and convicted.

But any conversations about foreign policy decisions with allies or even enemies, are perfectly legal. Solicitation of dirt from a foreign nation is not Constitutional.

the first whistle liar has a name -

Federal documents reveal that the 33-year-old Ciaramella, a registered Democrat held over from the Obama White House, previously worked with former Vice President Joe Biden and former CIA Director John Brennan, a vocal critic of Trump who helped initiate the Russia "collusion" investigation of the Trump campaign during the 2016 election.
Further, Ciaramella (pronounced char-a-MEL-ah) left his National Security Council posting in the White House’s West Wing in mid-2017 amid concerns about negative leaks to the media. He has since returned to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.

"He was accused of working against Trump and leaking against Trump," said a former NSC official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

...

And he worked with a Democratic National Committee operative who dug up dirt on the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, inviting her into the White House for meetings, former White House colleagues said. The operative, Alexandra Chalupa, a Ukrainian-American who supported Hillary Clinton, led an effort to link the Republican campaign to the Russian government. "He knows her. He had her in the White House," said one former co-worker, who requested anonymity to discuss the sensitive matter.

'Whistleblower' Exposed: Close to Biden, Brennan, Schiff's Staff, and DNC Operative

For a town that leaks like a sieve, Washington has done an astonishingly effective job keeping from the American public the name of the anonymous “whistleblower" who triggered impeachment proceedings against President Trump — even though his identity is an open secret inside the Beltway.

More than two months after the official filed his complaint, pretty much all that’s known publicly about him is that he is a CIA analyst who at one point was detailed to the White House and is now back working at the CIA.

But the name of a government official fitting that description — Eric Ciaramella — has been raised privately in impeachment depositions, according to officials with direct knowledge of the proceedings, as well as in at least one open hearing held by a House committee not involved in the impeachment inquiry. Fearing their anonymous witness could be exposed, Democrats this week blocked Republicans from asking more questions about him and intend to redact his name from all deposition transcripts...

… Further, Ciaramella (pronounced char-a-MEL-ah) left his National Security Council posting in the White House’s West Wing in mid-2017 amid concerns about negative leaks to the media. He has since returned to CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia.
“He was accused of working against Trump and leaking against Trump,” said a former NSC official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss intelligence matters.

Also, Ciaramella huddled for “guidance” with the staff of House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, including former colleagues also held over from the Obama era whom Schiff’s office had recently recruited from the NSC. (Schiff is the lead prosecutor in the impeachment inquiry.)

And Ciaramella worked with a Democratic National Committee operative who dug up dirt on the Trump campaign during the 2016 election, inviting her into the White House for meetings, former White House colleagues said

Exposing this "whistleblower" for who he really is should bring down this whole charade, that's why Schiff is trying to quickly build a false narrative behind closed doors before this comes crashing down.

Desperation.

Sperry talks to Fred Fleitz, who says that literally everyone knows who the fake whistleblower is. They're not hiding his name for safety reasons -- everyone who wants to know the name does know his name -- but because they don't want anyone to ask him questions about his history with Brennan, Biden, and Chalupa.

So they're keeping him anonymous -- well, fake anonymous for a fake whistleblower -- merely as a tactic to avoid having him questioned.

Adam Schiff forbid the second fake whistleblower, Vindman, from answering Republican questions -- questions about who he's been leaking to.

Did he leak to Ciaramella? Did he leak to Ciaramella with the understanding that Ciaramella would play messenger service for him and leak to Schiff and the partisan press?

Did Vindman also leak those phone calls with foreign leaders? Does he know who did leak them?

We can't ask him -- Adam Schiff has forbidden his witness from answering questions.

If they're doing that for Vindman, but still want him to talk at all, imagine what they're so afraid of Ciaramella that they're hiding him like a dead hooker's corpse.

Graham on Wednesday also downplayed the testimony of Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, who told House investigators that a transcript of a July 25 call between Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was edited to remove a reference to Burisma Holdings, a Ukrainian company that paid former Vice President Joe Biden's son Hunter Biden tens of thousands of dollars to serve on its board.

"I have no doubt that he's doing what he thinks is right," Graham said of Vindman, who testified for hours on Capitol Hill on Tuesday. "I appreciate his service but I've read the transcript and if you add his corrections in it doesn't change anything for me."

Graham said the corrections Vindman proposed for the transcript of the July 25 call "don't change the substance at all."

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who is overseeing the ongoing illegitimate impeachment inquiry set in motion by Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is reportedly telling witnesses testifying not to answer questions asked by Republican lawmakers.

Speaking to reporters on Capitol Hill, House Minority Whip Steve Scalise, R-La., slammed the hidden process claiming Schiff was instructing witnesses testifying behind the closed doors of the SCIF not to answer questions asked by Republican members.

“He’s directing witnesses not to answer questions that he doesn’t want the witness to answer if they’re asked by Republicans,” Scalise charged. “He’s not cut off one Democrat. He’s not interrupted one Democrat and told a witness not to answer Democrat members’ questions but today he started telling witnesses not to answer questions by certain Republicans.”

One question that Schiff barred a witness from answering reportedly came from Ohio Republican Congressman Jim Jordan, who asked Vindman to disclose the individuals with whom he shared information about the July 25 phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymr Zelensky.

“Adam Schiff says, ‘no-no-no we’re not going to let him answer that question,’” Jordan said as reported by Fox News.

The witness is Army Lt. Col. Alexander S. Vindman. Vindman listened to the July 25 call between Trump and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Commentators, primarily on Fox News, have questioned Vindman’s motives. One Fox News guest said the word "espionage" might apply. Donald Trump, Jr. cast him as "a leftist."

In a text of his prepared remarks to the House Intelligence Committee, Vindman wrote that he found Trump’s and Zelensky’s conversation concerning.

"I did not think it was proper to demand that a foreign government investigate a U.S. citizen, and I was worried about the implications for the U.S. government’s support of Ukraine," Vindman wrote.

He wrote that he thought that Trump’s request would politicize aid to Ukraine and "undermine U.S. national security." Vindman wrote that he reported his concern to the top lawyer for the National Security Council.

Here’s what we know about Vindman, his connection to the Ukraine investigation, and the criticisms about his motives.

Why was Vindman listening to the call?
Vindman joined the National Security Council in July 2018 to implement the administration’s policy on Ukraine. He reported to Fiona Hill, who in turn reported to John Bolton, Trump’s then-National Security Adviser. A Ukrainian speaker, Vindman listened to the call from the White House Situation Room, along with other security officials and members of the vice president’s staff.

Is there any evidence that Vindman opposes Trump.

None has emerged. The White House has provided none, and several top Republicans have defended his integrity. The third ranking House Repulican Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., decried attacks on Vindman’s motives.

"We're talking about decorated veterans who have served this nation, who have put their lives on the line," Cheney said Oct. 29. "It is shameful to question their patriotism, their love of this nation, and we should not be involved in that process."

Tim Morrison, the top Russia official on President Trump's National Security Council, who is scheduled to testify in the impeachment inquiry on Thursday, is expected to leave his White House post imminently, three sources familiar with the plan told NPR.

Morrison, a conservative hawk who has served as the senior director for European and Russian affairs on the National Security Council, will be replaced by Andrew Peek, the deputy assistant secretary of state for Iraq and Iran in the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs, according to the sources.

Morrison and Peek could not immediately be reached for comment by NPR. The National Security Council declined comment.

Morrison started his job in July, chosen by Trump's former national security adviser, John Bolton, to fill the role when Fiona Hill — another witness in the impeachment inquiry — announced her plans to leave the White House in August.

Morrison is a crucial figure in the House Democratic investigation into whether Trump pressured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy to launch an investigation of a political rival.

The President will not be able to keep him from testifying before the house committee.

During recent political discussions with certain people, it has been more than suggested, but outright stated that my political views about President Trump amount to nothing more than "Orange Man Bad". I believe that this assertion is a ridiculously convenient oversimplification of the views I hold, and such an oversimplification is merely a comforting coping mechanism for Trump zealots who have very little justification for their vehement, unwavering support of the President. Considering the current status of Congressional investigations, and the testimony arising from the investigating committee hearings, I'm left to conclude that not only is "Orange Man Bad" (nod to the over-simplifying Trumptards), Trump is a shameless liar, an incompetent executive, and has egregiously abused the power of the Office of the President of the United States. He not only deserves to be impeached, he deserves to be found guilty at trial, and removed from office. The way I see it, Congressional Republicans should be scurrying to avail themselves of perhaps this last opportunity for them to reclaim some measure of the integrity and character they have voluntarily and foolishly surrendered to the benefit and purpose of Donald J. Trump, and to the profound detriment of the American people.

I mean, you do realize this, correct?"

You will regret losing your mind.

I am in the Rules Committee room where Democrats are marking up their impeachment resolution.

@RepDLesko offered an amendment requiring any evidence which is exculpatory regarding the President to be given to the Judiciary Committee.

Democrats rejected it.

The House will vote on a resolution Thursday to guide the impeachment process as it heads into a more public phase.

The house majority has the authority to conduct the investigation under the rules passed during the Clinton impeachment process.

When your party wins the election, they can set the rules.

The President’s lawyers would be able to respond to the presentations related to the probe given to the House Judiciary Committee. They may also be able to cross-examine witnesses in the Judiciary Committee and raise objections to the evidence being presented in those proceedings. Additionally, under the procedures, the President may offer evidence or request other testimony for the proceedings, but whether such evidence is “necessary or desirable to a full and fair record in the inquiry,” will be up to the committee. not Congressman Schiff.

Put down the PBR.

Schiff would have veto over any gop witness. That is unacceptable.

And stupid auto correct.

Well Roger...

I wonder where else in the world that the prosecutor has veto power over what the defense plans to do in defense?

This is why nobody with a brain takes this seriously.
