In a nutshell...

We have a fairly corrupt system in place that allows politically connected figures to earn money in cushy positions where there only real value to a company would be those political connections. Everyone knows it's wrong and possibly illegal, but everyone sort of understands that it is a fairly common occurrence.

One of those examples is the Burisma situation where Hunter Biden (the son of Joe Biden) was provided a $600,000/year position on the board of a Ukrainian energy company, when Hunter had no real connections to either Ukraine or the energy industry to justify the job. The only thing Hunter apparently provided was a billion dollars from a Chinese government subsidized investment company.

We know now that people within the State Department and the Administration found this to be a troubling situation that stunk of conflict of interest. It's said that Joe Biden was defensive about the situation and used the death of his other son as a buffer when people wanted to bring it up. Hunter Biden remained on the board while Joe was Vice President.

So how defensive is our political class regarding these fairly common quid pro quo conflict of interest and possibly illegal arrangements where relatives and friends of high ranking government officials get rich off their ties to that particular official?

Well... in a nutshell... Donald Trump is being impeached today...

Because he asked about it.

“This impeachment represents an unprecedented and unconstitutional abuse of power by Democrat Lawmakers, unequaled in nearly two and a half centuries of American legislative history.”
— President Trump, in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Dec. 17, 2019
Reading President Trump’s impeachment-eve letter to the House speaker seemed very familiar to The Fact Checker. It’s like a written version of his campaign rallies, replete with false claims we have fact-checked many times before either in individual fact checks or in our database of false or misleading Trump claims.
This letter will add a couple dozen new entries to our database, but here are some of the lowlights.
“The Articles of Impeachment introduced by the House Judiciary Committee are not recognizable under any standard of Constitutional theory, interpretation, or jurisprudence. They include no crimes, no misdemeanors, and no offenses whatsoever. You have cheapened the importance of the very ugly word, impeachment!”

There’s nothing in the Constitution that says an impeachment needs to be a specific crime.
“Fortunately, there was a transcript of the conversation taken, and you know from the transcript (which was immediately made available) that the paragraph in question was perfect.”
Trump only released the rough transcript after Democrats announced they would launch a possible impeachment inquiry. Many outside experts say that Trump’s July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was highly unusual. Trump appeared to have no agenda except to ask for the Ukrainian government to work with his private attorney to investigate a potential 2020 presidential rival and also investigate debunked conspiracy theories about possible interference by Ukraine in the 2016 election. Trump made about eight requests for help with some sort of investigation involving either former vice president Joe Biden or the Democrats.
AD

Before the call took place, Trump with no explanation halted the expected delivery of military aid. Some U.S. diplomats believed the halt was connected to the president’s demands for a probe of Biden, text messages released by Congress show. Moreover, The Washington Post reported that at least four national security officials were so alarmed by Trump’s ongoing pressure campaign on Ukraine that they lodged objections with a White House lawyer before and right after the call.
“I said to President Zelensky: ‘I would like you to do us a favor, though, because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it.’”
There is no evidence that Ukraine had any role in the 2016 election interference that intelligence agencies concluded was directed from the highest levels of the Russian government. After making this comment in the call, Trump referenced a debunked theory that CrowdStrike, the Californian company that revealed the hack of the Democratic National Committee, was Ukrainian, to the apparent confusion of Zelensky.

That statement, Roger...

had nothing to do with Hunter Biden.

Are you thinking anyone is dumb enough to fall for that?

added in a s5eparate tweet that he "went on to say that< I would like to have the Attorney General of the United States) call you or your people. This, based on what I have seen, is their big point — and it is no point at all (except for a big win for me!)."

"The Democrats should apologize to the American people!" he continued.

According to a White House memorandum of the July 25 phone call, Trump asked the Ukrainian president for a "favor" after Zelensky talked about buying U.S. anti-tank missiles.

Trump: I would like you to do "us" a favor because "our country" has been through a lot. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say Crowdstrike... ... the server, they say Ukraine has it.

There was no mention of Biden until later in the conversation after Zelensky brought up the fact that he was making personal changes (including the ambassador to the United States) and planned on bringing in new people that would be a better fit for him and for their relationship with the United States

Trump: Good because I heard you had a prosecutor who was very good and he was shut down and that's really unfair.

And let's be clear here. It was the release of the Biden video where BIDEN tells a bunch of people that he (BIDEN) got a prosecutor fired by threatening to withhold Aid.

Again... you believe that "asking" about Hunter Biden's fake position on a Ukrainian energy company and BIDEN'S OWN ADMISSION that he got a prosecutor fired...

is an impeachable offense?

How bad are the facts for Biden... when even mentioning the idea that he or Hunter might have done something wrong is cause to remove a sitting President?

The new leader of Democrats in the Senate says Donald Trump is being "really dumb" for picking a fight with intelligence officials, suggesting they have ways to strike back, after the president-elect speculated Tuesday that his "so-called" briefing about Russian cyberattacks had been delayed in order to build a case.

"Let me tell you: You take on the intelligence community — they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you," said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer "

So far they are winning.

Simulated “misery index” in Australia on Dec. 17, 2019. (earth.nullschool.net)
By Andrew Freedman December 18 at 11:10 AM
Australia had its hottest day on record Dec. 17, with a nationally averaged temperature of 105.6 degrees (40.9), according to the country’s Bureau of Meteorology. This beats the old record of 104.5 degrees (40.3 Celsius) on Jan. 7, 2013.

However, it’s a record that may not stand for long — perhaps for just 24 hours, as forecasters anticipate it could be broken both Wednesday and Thursday eastern time, as a searing, early-season heat wave roasts the country.

“This hot air mass is so extensive that preliminary figures show that yesterday was the hottest day on record in Australia,” said BOM meteorologist Diana Eadie.

It’s highly unusual for a national temperature record to be broken, but to be broken on two to three straight days is even more rare.

Numerous locations in inland Australia exceeded 115 degrees (44.8 Celsius) on Dec. 17, with even higher temperatures expected Wednesday. The hottest temperature ever recorded in Australia, which was 123 degrees (50.6 Celsius), set on Jan. 2, 1960, in Oodnadatta, may be in jeopardy during this event.

The heat is combining with drought conditions and burning wildfires to lead to severe to “extreme” fire danger in parts of Victoria, South Australia and New South Wales on Thursday local time. The extreme fire danger warning includes metropolitan Sydney, where the heat is ramping up.

The heat is forecast to peak Friday in Adelaide, where the forecast high temperature is 113 degrees (45 Celsius), as well as Melbourne, which is predicted to reach 109 degrees (43 Celsius).

The BOM is also forecasting that many locations will break monthly records for the hottest temperatures in December. In fact, some places in New South Wales could see their hottest temperature on record for any time of the year, particularly Saturday, according to BOM meteorologist Blair Trewin.

the use of "us" and "our country" tips off an intelligent person that trump is not looking for anything for himself, but for something - justice perhaps - for our nation which was put through hell because of a clinton 'bought and paid for' lie.

i'm not surprised at all at your inability to comprehend this alky.

Important Safety Tip

A bunch of climate idiots decided it would be a super-genius idea to play chicken with a train. Hint: The train always wins. It’s called momentum. Look it up sometime.

This is what happens when you teach people “social justice” rather than basic physics.

Compounding the stupidity was the fact that they were trying to shut down shipment of coal to a power plant in Bow, New Hampshire, where the temperature is supposed to hit 6°F tomorrow. There’s nothing that convinces ordinary people of the justness of your cause quite like forcing them to freeze to death.

https://www.battleswarmblog.com/?p=42914

Soon after the 9:30 p.m. calls, activists willing to risk arrest stepped onto the tracks, flashlights and headlamps pointed toward the oncoming train. About a minute later, the first blares from the train's horn could be heard from where they stood.

Lila Kohrman-Glaser, an organizer with 350 New Hampshire Action, said she felt "anxious" standing on the tracks. "But I feel way more anxious about the climate crisis and the fact that coal is still being used in New Hampshire. And if I have to stand in front of a train and be a little anxious, that feels like a really fair trade-off."

By 9:45 p.m., the lights from the train were visible in the distance, as were flashing red and blue lights from law enforcement vehicles. West Boylston Police Sargent Anthony Papandrea confirmed that three officers in three cars responded to a call about an "out of place" vehicle.

Shortly before 9:50 p.m., the train came into view, blaring its horn as it approached the protesters. Those standing on the track began to wonder out loud whether the train was going to stop.

Activists stationed about a mile and half-mile away tried to warn the driver with flags, but the train gave no indication of slowing down.

With the train about 50 feet away, the group ran off the track.

"If we were locked to the tracks, they wouldn't have had time to slow down by the time they saw us," one of the protesters said. "They went through two sets of flaggers."

Sorry Scott, all you saw on the Republicans was a lot think of angry white men. No one of them defended the President and his actions.

Every 90 seconds or so another member of the House stepped up to the microphone to bless or condemn the impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump.

Hour after hour (after hour) it went on. Familiar faces. Not-so-familiar faces. Angry people. Somber people. A moment of silence for Trump voters. Citations of Scripture.

This was history, yes. Six hours of open debate split between the two parties in advance of a vote that would make Donald Trump only the third president ever impeached by the House.

But it was also a telling glimpse of where our politics is -- and a glimpse into what it will look like for the near future.

As soon as one Republican would finish slamming the articles of impeachment as a product of a Democratic Party that has never been able to get over its loss in 2016, a Democrat insisting that Trump had knowingly sought to pressure a foreign power for his own benefit would begin.

They all believe your deep state conspiracy theories. Tweets from a few Democrats who tweeted impeachment hearings on January 20th of 2017: 3:00 EST.

You pack it up, admit your defeat and move on! I think it's time forever Scott A**hole, because you hate liberals so badly that you have not defended the president's actions no matter what he said about anything. Including walking down 5th street alone tomorrow and shooting Moose Limbs and beaners.
