Read it and weep?

At first glance, this seems a lot more damning than early liberal reports were suggesting.

This is one of those examples where the meat of the report and the executive summary seem to reach alternative conclusions. The actual report itself finds multiple errors by multiple people, and there is every reason to believe that without those errors that the FISA warrants and other actions would not have been justified. The repeated phrase of a "low threshold predicated" seems to be used as a crutch to justify what otherwise seems to be extremely dubious behavior.

I understand that Barr, Duhnam and others are suggesting that this is not the "final say" on the subjects at hand. While I appreciate that there were things done that probably deserve more than just a report that seems to simply assume that the mounting evidence of misdeeds and the undercutting of FBI regulations are simply "mistakes" and can be justified under the "low threshold predicated"...  I wonder if we are simply past the political and social "statute of limitations" for this sort of action.

Perhaps it is time to just "move on".

I think Comey, McCabe, Strzok, Page, and others will forever live with the fact that they tarnished the FBI in ways that it will never fully recover from. Perhaps it doesn't help to keep delving any deeper into this dark period in our American history.

@Zaggs

Here is the kicker. If you want to believe that there was no bias against Trump in crossfire hurricane, then you have to accept that these "inaccuracies and omissions" happen all the time in FISA warrants. Who is ready to make that argument?

US Attorney Durham objects to IG findings on Russia probe origins in stunning statement

The U.S. attorney who is conducting a wide-ranging investigation of the origins of the Trump-Russia probe released a rare statement Monday saying he disagrees with conclusions of the so-called FISA report -- after DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz found in that review that the probe's launch largely complied with DOJ and FBI policies.

“Based on the evidence collected to date, and while our investigation is ongoing, last month we advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened,” U.S. Attorney John Durham said in a statement.

“I have the utmost respect for the mission of the Office of Inspector General and the comprehensive work that went into the report prepared by Mr. Horowitz and his staff,” Durham said. “However, our investigation is not limited to developing information from within component parts of the Justice Department. Our investigation has included developing information from other persons and entities, both in the U.S. and outside of the U.S.”

Doesn't look like Durham is ready to move on.

All I know is that if I was Comey or Brennan I would rather have Durham stating there was no Bias and Horowitz objecting than the other way around.

They are in some legal jeopardy and if I was their lawyer I would tell them to just shut up.

As suggested by most everyone. Horowitz is an Obama appointee, a Democrat, and fairly ingrained in the community. Some may even go so far as to say he is a part of the deep state.

On the flip side, while is summary leaves much to question, he didn't hold much (if anything) back in his actual findings. The FISA warrants were littered with errors, and those errors were bad enough to question whether a Judge would have approved a clean FISA application that did not contain these errors.

C.H. Truth said...

Also... the rumors were pretty clear that Horowitz and Durham were in agreement and that there was only really one person (low level) who was in any sort of legal jeopardy.

Those portions of the rumor were wrong.

The term "split the baby" seems to be a fairly common phrase going around.

I still question how much traction this gains moving forward.

I think most everyone would like to move on from 2016 election, the FBI issues, as well as the stupid impeachment crap.

The court rejected the case without comment or noted dissent by any of the justices."

‘The Truth Is Finally Out’
December 9, 2019 at 5:21 pm EST

Former FBI Director James Comey gave MSNBC his reaction on the Justice Department inspector general’s report that found no FBI bias in the Russia probe.

Said Comey:
“It was all made up. Two years of sitting silently at the FBI while you are lied about and finally the truth is out. It was lies. There was no treason. There was no conspiracy. There was no tapping of Trump’s wires. There was no putting informants in the campaign. It was all nonsense. And the FBI finally has its day with the American people and I hope they pay attention to it.”

Paul Waldman and Greg Sargent:
The inspector general report just blew up Trump’s lies. So Barr is rushing to the rescue.

Trump: IG report documents 'attempted overthrow' of government
NBC News
Dec 9th 2019 3:59PM

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump said Monday that a new Justice Department report that found a solid legal basis for the original FBI investigation of his 2016 campaign had actually documented an "attempted overthrow" of the government that was "far worse than I ever thought possible."

"We're lucky we caught 'em," he said at the White House, following the release of the long-awaited report by the Justice Department's watchdog that rebutted his regular depiction of a politically biased plot against him.

The report by the Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz concluded that the FBI and the Justice Department launched their investigation into the 2016 campaign not for political reasons, but due to evidence the Russian government was using go-betweens to reach out to the Trump campaign as part of its efforts to influence the election.

The finding undercut repeated claims by Trump and his allies that the Russia investigation was a politically-motivated "witch hunt" designed to prevent him from becoming president and that his campaign was spied on by the Obama administration.

Trump sought to shift focus to the report's finding that the FBI mishandled parts of its application to monitor a former Trump campaign aide as it probed possible Russian interference in the 2016 election, rather than focusing on the conclusion that the overall investigation was justified and not politically motivated.

Just months into his presidency. Trump claimed that President Barack Obama had his phones lines tapped in Trump Tower, a claim he said earlier this year "turned out to be true," despite no evidence of any such action. Today's report said that was not the case.

Before the report was released, Trump had looked to promote it over the impeachment hearings taking place the same day.

"I.G. report out tomorrow. That will be the big story!" he tweeted Sunday.
TRUE, MR. PRESIDENT. TRUE!!!!

Trump has also been seeking to shift the focus to another report being carried out by U.S. Attorney John H. Durham, who was appointed by the attorney general to look into the origins of the investigation.

In an unusual move for an investigator who has yet to conclude his work, Durham said in a Monday statement that he had "advised the Inspector General that we do not agree with some of the report’s conclusions as to predication and how the FBI case was opened.”

LOOK AT THE VIDEO ABOVE AND WEEP. For some EIGHTEEN YEARS the American people WERE LIED TO, BY LEADERS WHO KNEW BETTER, MUCH AS IT WAS AS WITH VIETNAM, EXCEPT WE LOST "ONLY" MORE THAN 2,400 SOLDIERS ALONG WITH MORE THAN $2,000,000,000,000.

What Did the U.S. Get For the More Than $2 Trillion ($2,000,000,000,000) We Spent In Afghanistan?
December 9, 2019 at 11:58 am EST

New York Times:
“There is little to show for it. The Taliban control much of the country. Afghanistan remains one of the world’s largest sources of refugees and migrants. More than 2,400 American soldiers and more than 38,000 Afghan civilians have died.”

“Still, life has improved, particularly in the country’s cities, where opportunities for education have grown. Many more girls are now in school. And democratic institutions have been built — although they are shaky at best.”

"Failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton would be the leading choice among registered Democrat voters for the White House if she jumped into the crowded primary field, according to a recently released poll.

The latest Harvard-Harris presidential poll shows Clinton at 21 percent support, edging out former Vice President Joe Biden with 20 percent. The survey shows Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) in third place with 12 percent and Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) placing fourth at nine percent. Tied for fifth place with fice percent support are South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg (D) and former Secretary of State John Kerry, who has ruled out a White House bid of his own and recently thrown his support behind Biden."

Saturday Donald Trump gave a speech to the Israeli American Council in which he asserted that many in his audience were “not nice people at all,” but that “you have to vote for me” because Democrats would raise their taxes.

Was he peddling an anti-Semitic stereotype, portraying Jews as money-grubbing types who care only about their wealth? Of course he was. You might possibly make excuses for his remarks if they were an isolated instance, but in fact Trump has done this sort of thing many times, for example asserting in 2015 that Jews weren’t supporting him because he wasn’t accepting their money and “you want to control your politicians.”

Well, it’s not news that Trump’s bigotry isn’t restricted to blacks and immigrants. What is interesting, however, is that this particular anti-Semitic cliché — that Jews are greedy, and that their political behavior is especially driven by their financial interests — is empirically dead wrong. In fact, American Jews are much more liberal than you might expect given their economic situation.
