First and foremost, the WaPo ed/op misses the entire point that the allegations against the President are unserious, as well as without any actual real evidence to support them. The "abuse of power" and "obstruction of Congress" not only represent actions that fail to rise to the level of criminal, but the actual "articles" of impeachment are not actual defined crimes.
They are literally made up.
Moreover the House had a duty to provide some sort of evidence or proof of the allegations (even if they didn't rise to crimes). One might say that the fact that their allegations don't rise to the level of criminal is all the more reason they needed to find real tangible first hand information of actual corrupt intent (rather than a line up of people who provided anti-Trump sentiment, opinion, and unfounded speculation).

This isn't about Trump, nor should it be. It should be about our process of impeachment, our rule of law, and our Congressional decorum. What we can all state (or admit to) without question is that other Presidents (or in the case of Joe Biden, Vice Presidents) have done all of these things and more, and nobody ever even gave impeachment a second thought. We are here today because Democrats and liberals in general hate Trump more than they love the Country, and they are willing to tear down whatever they need to, if it means that Trump comes down with it.
The fact that idiots from the WaPo believe that it's up to McConnell to play along with this nonsense is why WaPo is no longer a serious newspaper.

The captain has been put away for the night.” The words from the movie “The Caine Mutiny” came to mind on Friday when House leaders announced that Speaker Nancy Pelosi would not move until next week in submitting the impeachment of President Trump to a Senate trial. While various Democrats have publicly grumbled about the delay, going into its fourth week, without any sign of success in forcing the Senate to call witnesses, Pelosi continued a strategy that could jeopardize not just any trial but the rules governing impeachment. Indeed, she may force the Senate into a couple of unprecedented but well deserved rulings.
From the outset, the ploy of Pelosi withholding the House impeachment articles was as implausible as it was hypocritical. There was no reason why Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell would make concessions to get an impeachment that he loathed. More importantly, just a couple of days earlier, House leaders insisted that some of us were wrong to encourage them to wait on an impeachment vote to create a more complete record. Pelosi previously insisted that House committees could not pursue direct witnesses like former national security adviser John Bolton because there was no time to delay in getting this impeachment to the Senate. She then waited a month and counting to send the articles on to the Senate.
The delay now seems largely driven by a desire to preserve the image of Pelosi as a master strategist despite a blunder of the first order. Senator Diane Feinstein expressed the frustration of many members in saying, “The longer it goes on, the less urgent it becomes. So if it is serious and urgent, send them over. If it is not, do not send it over.” But she and other members were quickly pressured to “correct” their earlier statements by stating the exact opposite and praising the brilliant strategy of Pelosi.
Perhaps the most pathetic change was House Armed Services Committee Chairman Adam Smith, who correctly stated, “At the end of the day, just like we control it in the House, Mitch McConnell controls it in the Senate. It does not look like that is going to happen. I think it is time to send the impeachment to the Senate and let Mitch McConnell be responsible for the fairness of the trial. A group of Iranian protesters demanded that the country’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei step down on Saturday after the government said its military had by mistake shot down a Ukrainian plane, killing all 176 people on board.
Those aboard the doomed flight included 82 Iranians, 63 Canadians and 11 Ukrainians, including the nine crew members. Ten passengers were from Sweden, four from Afghanistan, three from Germany and three from the United Kingdom.
The protesters in Iran expressed anger at what they perceive as an initial cover-up.
Prior to Iran's admission Saturday, it had denied shooting down the Ukraine International Airlines flight, which crashed shortly after it took off from Tehran early Wednesday.
But U.S. intelligence officials had said earlier that evidence suggested that the plane was shot down by an Iranian missile by mistake, multiple officials said.
"Commander-in-chief (Khamenei) resign, resign," videos posted on Twitter showed hundreds of people chanting, in front of Tehran’s Amir Kabir university.
The crowds included middle-class professionals as well as students.
