What to make of this?

So several Republicans are now pushing for the Bolton manuscript to be circulated in a private manner to the Senate, so that the Senate members could review it for themselves. The argument is that they would then have "all" have the information required to make a determination whether Bolton should be called to testify (or not), rather than relying on the "leaked" information from the NY Times.

The other argument is that having the manuscript would provide a full understanding of what Bolton is claiming, and would be superior to simply calling him as a witness (which could largely become a media circus). Republicans could then make the honest case that they were willing to take into account what the Bolton book has to say before calling for a vote. Of course, who is to say whether the book will provide more answers than questions. There could be a huge disagreement regarding that.

However, guess who doesn't like this idea? Senate Democrats! Chuck Schumer has called the idea an "absurd proposal" and believes that there should not be any preliminary private reading by the Senate.

I will offer two things to keep in mind.

  • The first is that if the NYT and WaPo have inside information on this, then so do the Senate Democrats. No way this was "just" leaked to the press. It's likely that Schumer already knows details of the book that are not part of the NYT WaPo story line.
  • The second is that the book "will" come out and Bolton will make his media rounds. If the book is as explosive as the NYT demands that it is, then the Senate Republicans would have little choice but to acknowledge as much after reading the manuscript.

So the question becomes... are the Democrats looking for this information to be carefully vetted and considered in the impeachment vote or are they just more interested in getting another anti-Trumper on the witness stand to potentially damage the President?

Since the Republicans are so certain of Trump's innocence, why not simply bring in Bolton to testify under oath?

But if the Repugs want to read the book first, that's okay.

The Dems will also be reading it, and after that the fun can begin.

Well Reverend Hypocrite...

Why not let the Senators have ALL of the information before they decide? Better to let them read it for themselves, than for the Senate impeachment trial to be influenced by an illegal leak to the NY Times.

But I appreciate your admission here that it's not about knowing the facts, but rather just about getting an anti-Trump witness on the stand.

But don't you find it odd that Schumer would be against GOP Senators reading the Bolton transcript for themselves? Seems to me that if it is everything that it's claimed to be that it would "force" them to call him...

or so you might argue?

Not that it is going to matter, ultimately... the GOP is in near agreement that the Bolton issue is not a game changer. Only those (like Romney and Collins) who have been pushing for witnesses since day one are using it to argue for witnesses today.

Because as I have stated from the beginning... and people like you keep forgetting, there is not an impeachable offense and their ultimately was no quid pro quo.

I guess if your story is correct, then they did the wrong thing by stopping Zelensky from "reluctantly giving into Trump's demand and announcing investigations". Because then everyone could actually accuse the President of quid pro quo and neither Trump or Zelensky could have argued.

But apparently the hero outsmarted him or her self. Because none of this protected the Bidens. Their behavior is as much in the spotlight today as it would have been had there been a Ukrainian investigation. But rather it just protected the President because he was "thwarted" at the end, and now Zelensky can "LIE" for him.

Pretty silly actions in retrospect, huh?

Well, CH Un-Truth,

I'm delighted to see that you are of the opinion that the Senators cannot know "all of the information" unless they read Bolton's book. I agree they will probably find a huge amount of first hand (and perhaps even corroborated) information in it that will make it clear that Trump DID say and do exactly what according to Bolton he said and did.

I am indeed quite interested in getting a first hand witness on the stand, since we've been told so many times that the witnesses thus far did not have access to the President's own direct words. I assume that cannot be said of Bolton, since he was so often with the President and in the circles of his counsel.

HUNH?
WHO* STOPPED Zelensky? Zelensky and his advisers never did want EITHER to acknowledge that they were being pressured OR to give in to it.
_______________
*Who is "they"?
(Is who on first, or third, or second, or playing shortstop?)

and now Zelensky can "LIE" for him.
?????????I guess there is logic in there somewhere, but it's too convoluted for me.

National Debt Will Rise to 98% of GDP by 2030

“Sustained federal budget deficits and debt will hit the highest levels since World War II over the next decade, according to a Congressional Budget Office report,” the Wall Street Journal reports.

“The government will spend $1 trillion more than it collects in 2020 and deficits will exceed that amount every year for the foreseeable future. As a share of gross domestic product, the deficit will be at least 4.3% every year through 2030. That would be the longest stretch of budget deficits exceeding 4% of GDP over the past century.

“Debt held by the public will be 81% of GDP this year and is projected to reach 98% by 2030.”
______________

Didn't someone campaign on reducing the national debt in record time? Didn't his name begin with T?

Trump’s Ex-Chief of Staff Believes John Bolton

When asked if former National Security Adviser John Bolton should testify at President Trump’s impeachment trial, former White House Chief of Staff John Kelly said that he supports calling witnesses, the Sarasota Herald Tribune reports.

Said Kelly:
“If John Bolton says that in the book I believe John Bolton… John’s an honest guy. He’s a man of integrity and great character, so we’ll see what happens.”

He added: “I think some of the conversations seem to me to be very inappropriate but I wasn’t there. But there are people that were there that ought to be heard from.”

Yep.
