Demographic update:

Based on CDC death certificates (which now total 21050) we are now looking at the following age breakdowns:

So as the actual death certificate start to catch up a little with overall reported deaths, the percentages are moving even further towards the elderly. At right around 10,000 death certificates the over 65 group accounted for 77.81%, at 15,000 they accounted for 78.05%, and now they account for 78.86% of the total deaths.

On the flip side, the under 45 group now accounts for less than 3% of the total deaths when they at one time represented 3.3% of total deaths.

While these changes are nominal, they confirm that these percentages are not going to change. There is no real hard empirical evidence to suggest that Covid-19 poses a grave threat to younger, healthy Americans.

It's starting to become very clear that those with most financial risk to being isolated are looking at very little medical risk. while those with the least financial risk to being isolated are at most medical risk.

It would seem like in an advance country like ours that these sort of overwhelmingly obvious numbers should allow us to work this out so the the people who need to work (and are not at medical risk) should be allowed to, whereas those with the most medical risk can continue to be isolated and protected (as they should).

But I guess that is just too complicated for our leaders to figure out.

‘Too soon,’ Trump says of Ga. plan to reopen economy;
Kemp disagrees

Governor insists on moving forward with some businesses resuming operations.

President Donald Trump said Wednesday he “totally” disagreed with Gov. Brian Kemp’s decision to roll back coronavirus restrictions and allow shuttered businesses such as nail salons and barber shops to reopen this week.

Refusing to reverse course, Kemp said he would still allow close-contact businesses to resume operations on Friday in order to “protect the lives — and livelihoods — of all Georgians.” The split between the two allies came as a surprise to Kemp’s administration, and just a day after the president praised the governor’s response to a pandemic that’s killed hundreds of Georgians and sickened more than 21,000.

Saying it was “just too soon” to let tattoo parlors, bowling alleys and other shuttered businesses reopen, Trump’s rebuke undermined Kemp’s aggressive strategy to restart Georgia’s struggling economy.
“They can wait a little bit longer. Safety has to predominate,” the president said.

“Would I do that? No,” he added. “I want to protect people’s lives. But I’m going to let him make his decision. But I told him I totally disagree.” The two men spoke late Tuesday in what aides to Kemp described as a productive conversation about Kemp’s approach, and top Georgia Republicans said they had no indication that Trump would undercut his strategy. Since announcing the plan on Monday, Kemp has called it a “measured” step even as many public health experts warn that the approach could trigger a new outbreak. Trump’s top health advisers have repeatedly criticized Kemp’s strategy.

“There is a danger of a rebound,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases at Trump’s press briefing on Wednesday.“Going ahead and leapfrogging into phases where you should not be, I would advise him, as a health official and a physician, not to do that.”

Georgia Democrats, who strongly opposed Kemp’s pandemic policies, quickly highlighted the rift between the president and the governor. “You know it’s a serious failure when Donald Trump, whose failed leadership is responsible for how badly this crisis is hitting America, distances himself from his crony Brian Kemp, who is endlessly determined to make this crisis as painful as possible for Georgians,” said Nikema Williams, chairwoman of the state Democratic Party.

In a series of tweets after Trump’s remarks, Kemp said he was “confident that business owners who decide to reopen” will adhere to a series of guidelines his administration established, including screening employees for symptoms of illness. And he signaled he would move forward with another part of his plan that would let restaurants resume dine-in service Monday so long as they adhere to yet-to-be released safety standards.

‘A different world’

The governor has come under increasing pressure from local leaders, particularly in dense urban areas, who are upset that his statewide order barred them from enacting more severe restrictions.

“We need to, as government leaders, step up and give people an incentive to stay home,” said Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms. “But there’s nothing essential about going to a bowling alley in the middle of a pandemic.”

The governor also faced criticism from members of the state coronavirus task force he formed to help guide his response strategy who are upset they were left in the dark by his decision to roll back restrictions.

Kemp defended his policy on a conference call Wednesday with U.S. Sen. Kelly Loeffler, one of his top allies, saying that efforts to contain the coronavirus were paying off. “I know this is a different world. But we have to continue living in it for a few more weeks, or possibly just a few more months,” he said. “There are a lot of people financially hurting, and we’ve got to do our best to help them out.”

It was a surprising turnaround for the president. A day earlier, Trump expressed confidence in Kemp’s response even as federal health officials took a different tack.

Dr. Deborah Birx, the federal coronavirus response coordinator, seemed to endorse calls by local Georgia officials who have urged residents to stay home despite Kemp’s directive.

“I believe people in Atlanta would understand if their cases are not going down, they need to continue to do everything we said: social distancing, washing your hands, wearing a mask in public,” said Birx.

“This is America,” said Dorsey Kuchler Rohrer, 63, of Chenango, outside Syracuse, said while holding a “LIVE FREE OR DIE” sign with photos of the Statue of Liberty and a bald eagle with stars and stripes.

A preschool teacher, Rohrer traveled to participate in Wednesday’s demonstration with her daughter, nieces and nephews.

“I was a Democratic Socialist for 63 years,” she said. “In one week, I became a libertarian and then a revolutionary.”

Hundreds of New Yorkers braved blustery winds for several hours Wednesday as vehicles of all sizes clogged Washington Avenue and State Street. Protesters were armed with American flags, Trump/Pence 2020 campaign flags and memorabilia and homemade signs insisting social-distancing measures are unconstitutional and encroach on civil liberties.

A former Cuomo supporter, Rohrer said she never believed the government would take Americans’ rights away.

“I didn’t think they could take our rights away — never,” Rohrer said. “I trusted the government. I thought they were benevolent. I never believed they would trample on the Bill of Rights.”

Rohrer previously attended four protests against Republican President Donald Trump.

“I never worried about being arrested,” she recalled. “But now, I worry about being arrested for going to the park with my family.”

Corey Ingram, a resident of Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, felt good about voting for Donald Trump in 2016 — but the president's handling of the coronavirus pandemic has already made his choice in November clear.

"How he's doing with this doesn't give me any confidence," Ingram, 42, an inspector at a military equipment manufacturer, told NBC News. "The rejection of science, the constant disagreeing with his experts."

“After this,” he added, “anyone but Trump.”

Like many voters across the United States, Ingram, a political independent who twice cast a ballot for Barack Obama, has seen the pandemic emerge as a main concern as the country slides quietly into a general election campaign eclipsed by the ongoing public health crisis.

How Trump has responded to the outbreak — from a public health and an economic standpoint, as well as a crisis management challenge — will pave a path to victory (or defeat) that largely goes through battleground states. And nowhere are his challenges clearer than in the swing state of Pennsylvania.

As of Wednesday night, the state had the fifth-most confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the fifth-most deaths from the virus in the U.S.

The economic toll has been even more striking. Since March 14, about 1.3 million Pennsylvanians (or nearly 1 in 5 workers in the state) have lost their jobs — the second-highest number during that period in the country, behind only California.

Usama bin Laden wanted to assassinate then-President Barack Obama so that the "totally unprepared" Joe Biden would take over as president and plunge the United States "into a crisis," according to documents seized from bin Laden's Pakistan compound when he was killed in May 2011.

The secretive documents, first reported in 2012 by The Washington Post, outlined a plan to take out Obama and top U.S. military commander David Petraeus as they traveled by plane.

“The reason for concentrating on them is that Obama is the head of infidelity and killing him automatically will make [Vice President] Biden take over the presidency," bin Laden wrote to a top deputy. "Biden is totally unprepared for that post, which will lead the U.S. into a crisis. As for Petraeus, he is the man of the hour ... and killing him would alter the war's path" in Afghanistan.

The letter was heartbreaking as it recounted the death of an 88-year-old woman in a New York nursing home. But it was also angry and accurate about a strange New York policy that is fatally wrongheaded.

“I am wondering who will hold Gov. Cuomo accountable for the deaths of so many older people due to his reckless decision to place covid19 patients in nursing and rehabilitation homes,” the letter began. “I am writing as a daughter who lost her beautiful 88 year old mother who was receiving physical therapy at one such facility.”

The writer, Arlene Mullin, went on to recount examples of the governor promising to protect the elderly because of their known vulnerability. She noted that he named his stay-at-home order after his own mother, Matilda Cuomo, and talked several times about protecting her.

“My mother is not expendable and your mother is not expendable and our brothers and sisters are not expendable,” Cuomo said a month ago.

Mullin had another complaint, too — that the media never asked the governor about an order mandating that nursing homes admit and readmit patients who tested positive for the coronavirus, despite the extraordinary number of deaths among the elderly.

That drought ended Monday when The Post’s Bernadette Hogan asked about the policy at Cuomo’s daily briefing. His answer was stunning.

“That’s a good question. I don’t know,” the governor said.

He turned to Howard Zucker, the state health commissioner, who confirmed the policy, saying “if you are positive, you should be admitted back to a nursing home. The necessary precautions will be taken to protect the other residents there.”

The second part of Zucker’s answer is debatable, the first part is not. The disastrous results speak for themselves.

The state concedes that 3,448 residents of nursing homes or adult-care facilities are known to have died from the coronavirus, or nearly 25 percent of all deaths in New York. More than 2,000 of the total are in the five boroughs, and officials acknowledge that the real numbers are almost certainly higher.

It bans so-called “assault weapons,” includes more onerous background checks on all gun sales and transfers, seeks to destroy gun manufacturers and dealers by making them responsible for crimes committed with their guns, restricts the number of firearms someone can buy in a month, “safe storage” and so many regulations that bearing arms will become a heavily-regulated privilege, Ammoland reports.

Biden never says these are his aspirations. He makes it clear this will be his mandate via fiat.

Well James first of all he's THE PRESIDENT not your president and second of all I actually watch the daily briefing and I know what was said. No one discounted the possibility of the virus returning in the fall and they even made the point that having it along with the flu would complicate the tracking of the virus.

But as the head of the CDC said at the briefing, the Washington Post misconstrue what he said for a sensationalistic, hysterical headline and rather deceptive story.

They close by saying everyone should get a flu vaccine this fall, this will not only protect you from the flu, it will also help the CDC separate flu cases from non-flu (coronavirus) cases.

Here's one that's a bit less objective:

DAILY MAIL
Furious Donald Trump throws tantrum after CDC boss directly contradicts him at White House press conference
- after President claimed second wave danger was 'fake news' and that coronavirus 'might not come back at all'

President Donald Trump brought CDC Director Robert Redfield to the White House podium to repudiate an interview he gave to The Washington Post

Trump blasted media reports on what Redfield said, calling them 'inaccurate'

He brought CDC director up but Redfield essentially confirmed words
'I'm accurately quoted in The Washington Post as difficult, but the headline was inappropriate,' Redfield said

President Trump said Redfield would put out a statement clarifyimg what he said.

There has been no statement thus far/

Redfield warned a second wave of coronavirus this winter could potentially be 'even more difficult than the one we just went
through'

He said it could combine with the regular flu season and overwhelm hospitals

The farce took place at the daily White House press briefing on the coronavirus and was sparked by Redfield telling The Washington Post that a second wave of the coronavirus this winter, combined with flu season, 'will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through.'

The newspaper ran the interview under the headline: 'CDC director warns second wave of coronavirus is likely to be even more devastating.'

Trump was furious at the coverage of Redfield's comments - several news outlets, including DailyMail.com, wrote stories on the CDC director's warning - calling the articles 'inaccurate.' He snapped at reporters who asked about the warning and whether Redfield was accurately quoted.

The president brought Redfield before the White House press corp to explain what he said in the interview, only for the CDC director to confirm he was accurately quoted. Redfield did say the headline on the Post's story was 'inappropriate.'

'I think it's really important to emphasize what I didn't say,' Redfield said. 'I didn't say this was going to be worse, I said it was going to be more difficult and potentially complicated because we'll have flu and coronavirus circulating at the same time.'

Trump then jumped in to complain his CDC director was misquoted.

'He was totally misquoted. He said they could come together, they didn't talk about that and his whole purpose in making the statement was to get a flu shot so that next fall, we don't have such a big season of flu and we possibly won't,' the president said.

Redfield went on to clarify what he said in his interview with The Post, which was also essentially what he told the newspaper.

'Next fall and winter, we are going to have two viruses circulating and we are going to have to distinguish between which is flu and which is coronavirus - the spirit of the comment that I made is more difficult. It doesn't mean it's impossible, it doesn't mean it's going to be worse, it's just going to be more difficult because we have to distinguish between the two,' he said.

Redfield's warning in the interview with The Post was clear and essentially what he said in the briefing.

'There's a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,' he told the newspaper. 'And when I've said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don't understand what I mean.'

'We're going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,' is what he told The Post.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

ABC's Jonathan Karl asked Redfield at the White House briefing if he was accurately quoted.

'I'm accurately quoted in The Washington Post as difficult, but the headline was inappropriate,' Redfield said.

Karl read the headline: 'The headline says CDC director warned second wave of coronavirus is likely to be even more devastating.'

President Trump stepped in to say: 'That's not what he said.'

Another reporter asked Redfield why he retweeted The Washington Post article.

'You weren't called on,' Trump told the reporter.

The president then took the podium back to declare the coronavirus may not come back this winter.

'It might not come back at all. He's talking about a worst-case scenario where you have a big flu and you have some Corona,' Trump said.

He added if it did return 'it's not going to be like it was. We have much better containment now, before nobody knew about it. Now if we have a little pocket here, we're going to have it put out, we're going to put it out fast. It's also possible it doesn't come back at all.'

BUT DR. ANTHONY FAUCI repudiated what Trump said, saying he was 'convinced' the coronavirus would come back this fall.

'What Dr. Redfield was saying, first of all, is that we will have coronavirus in the fall. I am convinced of that,' he said during his turn at the podium.

'What happens with that will depend on how we are able to contain it when it occurs. What we are saying is that in the fall, we will be much, much better prepared to do the kind of containment compared to what happened to us this winter,' he noted.

He added that 'it's going to get complicated by the influenza season. I believe that's what Dr. Redfield was saying. It's going to be complicated. So whether or not it's going to be big or small is going to depend on our response. And that's what I think people sometimes have misunderstanding. Nobody can predict what is going to happen within outbreak, but you can predict how you're going to respond to it.'

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Redfield told The Washington Post in an interview on Tuesday that a second wave of the coronavirus, combined with the regular flu season, could be devastating for the country.

CNN and other news outlets wrote up his comments given their high news value and interest to the public.

The White House, however, has pushed back at what he said.

President Donald Trump also claimed Redfield's quote was taken out of context.

'CDC Director was totally misquoted by Fake News @CNN on Covid 19. He will be putting out a statement,' the president tweeted.

Redfield ended up coming to the daily press briefing at the White House instead of putting out a statement.

His warning in the interview with the Post was clear.

'There's a possibility that the assault of the virus on our nation next winter will actually be even more difficult than the one we just went through,' he said. 'And when I've said this to others, they kind of put their head back, they don't understand what I mean.'

'We're going to have the flu epidemic and the coronavirus epidemic at the same time,' he said.

Redfield also retweeted the Washington Post's tweet on his interview, which contained the headline: 'CDC director warns second wave of coronavirus this winter will be worse.'

In the interview, he warned the dual trenches of illness could overwhelm the healthcare system. The United States has more than 850,000 cases of the coronavirus and more than 48,000 deaths.

And Redfield reiterated 'the enormous impact' social distancing has 'had on this outbreak in our nation'.

He said guidance for reopening states 'will be in the public domain shortly.'

The CDC is looking to hire more staff, Redfield said, as 'contact tracers'.

But Redfield also urged Americans to get the flu vaccination which 'may allow there to be a hospital bed available for your mother or grandmother that may get coronavirus.'

He said that if flu and corona had peaked at same time 'it could have been really, really, really, really difficult in terms of health capacity.'

OH SO NOW WE KNOW===

Deborah Birx Convinced Trump to Denounce Kemp

“Members of the coronavirus task force had to convince President Trump to change his view on Georgia’s Republican governor’s decision to reopen businesses in his state later this week,” CNN reports.

Said Dr. Anthony Fauci: “I cannot defend this publicly.”

“They then asked Dr. Deborah Birx, the panel’s coordinator, to try to convince Trump to oppose Kemp’s move. She had a private meeting with the president just prior to the news conference and successfully convinced him to denounce Kemp’s decision.”

__________
SO THAT'S WHY TRUMP CHANGED HIS TUNE. HE'S NOT READY TO FIRE HIS MEDICAL ADVISERS YET. BUT STAY TUNED.

OF COURSE, HE HAD TO LIE, PRETENDING THAT HE HAD ALWAYS OPPOSED KEMP FOR OPENING UP THE STATE, WHEN AT FIRST HE AND PENCE PRAISED HIM.

So here is what Trump said:

'it's not going to be like it was. We have much better containment now, before nobody knew about it. Now if we have a little pocket here, we're going to have it put out, we're going to put it out fast. It's also possible it doesn't come back at all.'

Here is what Fauci said:

'What happens with that will depend on how we are able to contain it when it occurs. What we are saying is that in the fall, we will be much, much better prepared to do the kind of containment compared to what happened to us this winter,' he noted.

He added that 'it's going to get complicated by the influenza season. I believe that's what Dr. Redfield was saying. It's going to be complicated. So whether or not it's going to be big or small is going to depend on our response. And that's what I think people sometimes have misunderstanding. Nobody can predict what is going to happen within outbreak, but you can predict how you're going to respond to it.'

Sounds an awful lot like Trump was repeating something he heard from Fauci and Birx (with the hopeful unlikely idea that it might not come back). It also looks like Fauci is less impressed with Redfield than the authors of this article suggests.

No, Balls. The liberal media, along with Trump's own medical advisers, are only saying that the shutdown must continue until we have good reason to believe we can better control the virus' spread and thereby hope that we can eventually eliminate it.

It was just another one of those interpreted things that the left keeps coming up with.

Sad even ardent supporters of trump can only say he is doing the best he can with his leadership!!!!! Most people think his word is as credible as Lil Schitty's is here!!!!! BWAAAAAAPAAAAAA!!!!!

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump has made himself the daily spokesman for the nation’s coronavirus response. Yet few Americans regularly look to or trust Trump as a source of information on the pandemic, according to a new survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research.

Just 28% of Americans say they’re regularly getting information from Trump about the coronavirus and only 23% say they have high levels of trust in what the president is telling the public. Another 21% trust him a moderate amount.

Confidence in Trump is higher among his supporters, though only about half of Republicans say they have a lot of trust in Trump’s information on the pandemic — and just 22% say they have little or no trust in what he says about the COVID-19 outbreak.

But even as many Republicans question Trump’s credibility during the pandemic, the overwhelming majority — 82% — say they still approve of how he's doing. That’s helped keep the president’s overall approval rating steady at 42%, about where it’s been for the past few months.

Lynn Sanchez of Jacksonville, Texas, is among those who backs Trump despite reservations about his credibility. Sanchez, who identifies as a political independent, said she trusts “only a little” of what the president says about the crisis, but believes he’s “doing the best he can.”

“He’s contradicted his own health experts a couple of times. I believe he gets carried away and doesn’t sit down and think things through,” said Sanchez, a 66-year-old retired truck stop manager.

that's exactly what it was. it was a lack of context wrapped around a lie of omission. i watched the whole fucking thing - live.

the wapo did not provide the context that redfield said that covid COMBINED with the standard influenza that we expect each year could pose a challenge.

the karl and the rest of the dnc stenographers in the briefing room ran with that. redfield and trump shoved it down karl's throat and karl STILL dug his heels in on the lie.

Dayum another amusing interpretation by our wonderful host!!!!!!! BWAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! Keep digging.....you and trump are having another shitty day!!!!!

You mean like all the guano you post here Lil Schitty?????? You really are naive thinking trump didn't ream the good doctor and the scowl on his face when he said he was quoted correctly was most amusing to us never trumpers!!!!!!!

Brit Hume: "It's Time to Consider the Possibility That the Coronvirus Lockdown Was a Colossal Public Policy Calamity"

—Ace

He distinguishes the "draconian lockdown" from more sensible social distancing rules, frequent hand-washing, etc.

Video here.

When asked about why so many people are so adamant the country remain locked down nigh-forever, Brit Hume says that if you "drill down" into who those people are, you'll find they are almost all inveterate haters of Donald Trump. He sort of says, "Do the math in your own head."

I'm sure it's all just a coincidence that the most Trump Deranged people are also the most fervidly pro-economic depression. It just worked out that way!

i have a good friend about 40 miles north of here who raises 250 acres corn, beans, and hay. i do some tillage for him on the weekends in the spring, and round bale for him in the summer if he needs the extra help. he raises several belted galloways for beef each year; i barter for some and buy the rest. there's nothing like knowing exactly where your food comes from.

By a physician without any political affiliation that I'm aware of.

The data is in — stop the panic and end the total isolation

Fact 1: The overwhelming majority of people do not have any significant risk of dying from COVID-19.

Fact 2: Protecting older, at-risk people eliminates hospital overcrowding.

Fact 3: Vital population immunity is prevented by total isolation policies, prolonging the problem.

Fact 4: People are dying because other medical care is not getting done due to hypothetical projections.

Fact 5: We have a clearly defined population at risk who can be protected with targeted measures.

You can follow the link to read the details.

Well Denny; Fact 1 it looks like the death rate will wind up being somewhere between 0.01 percent and 0.05 percent. As tragic as a single death is, is it anymore tragic than dying by suicide or a drug overdose (two of the most common morbidity results from the lock down).

For Fact 2 I find it amusing that you are mocking the very people whose deaths outrage you in fact 1.

For Fact 3, shutting everybody up while preventing the spread of the disease at great economic cost, also slows the process of herd immunity and thus prolongs the crisis. The only other option is to hope for a vaccine by fall. Much better to allow young healthy people to go about their business since their infection results in mild symptoms or no symptoms at all.

Fact 4 is not bullshit, as part of the lockdown all elective procedures have been ban at hospitals and outpatient clinics. At some point those "elective procedures" become critical life-saving procedures. We're not talking about plastic surgery but cancer surgery, cardiac procedures, chemotherapy etc.

Not only are you killing patients, you're killing hospitals financially as hospital beds go unused.

Fact 5 We know who is high risk, people who are obese (like you) diabetic (like you) and has a history of cardiac problems (like you).

Obviously you didn't read the material before you mouthed off.
