Is Governor Walz going to change his tune in Minnesota?

There are rumors that the complete lock down issued by Governor Walz may end up relaxed starting next week. This after reports that several $1000 fines were actually issued for people who were caught out of their house for a non-essential purpose. The Governor has maintained that he is looking at models where upwards of 75,000 Minnesotans will die had we done nothing and that upwards of 50,000 will still die based on our best efforts. The Governor has been claiming that his order will save between 20,000 and 30,000  lives.

But the actual numbers coming out of Minnesota has been more in line (if not running under) the models that suggest that 70,000 is a more realistic "national" number than a number for Minnesotans. The number of Minnesotans dead has stubbornly remained low. No matter how you make a chart look like it is going up exponentially, the number 34 is still 34.

Moreover, the overriding factor in all of this still appears to be age, with the median age of person contracting the disease at 50, the median age of those being hospitalized being 63, and the median age of people dying is 86.

The state currently still has 240 people hospitalized and 64 people in intensive care. While this no doubt will unfortunately add to the 34 deaths, it seems woefully detached from the idea that were are still on our way to 50,000-70,000 deaths.

Certainly social distancing and the sorts of things that Minnesota retailers have been doing has helped with this situation. We have six foot markers to stand behind. Things are being sanitized after every customer, and there are barriers in many places separating the customer from the employee. Most of that will likely stay in place for the foreseeable future. But it seems unfair to many small businesses that have not been able to stay open under even the most careful of circumstances because of a blanket order. Certainly someone smart enough to create a successful small business can figure out a way to continue at least some of their core business activities within the guidelines of social distancing and maintaining proper sanitation.

This remains woefully unfair to many small businesses outside the metro area where there is either very limited or even no known cases.

Certainly if we see a rise in cases, then we can always go back into lock down mode. But at this pace, it seems like a drastic draconian measure to be fining people $1000 because they are out in public without a reason deemed essential by the Governor.

Intelligence Report Warned of Virus In November
April 8, 2020 at 9:34 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 0 Comments

“Concerns about what is now known to be the novel coronavirus pandemic were detailed in a November intelligence report by the military’s National Center for Medical Intelligence,” ABC News reports.

“The report was the result of analysis of wire and computer intercepts, coupled with satellite images. It raised alarms because an out-of-control disease would pose a serious threat to U.S. forces in Asia — forces that depend on the NCMI’s work. And it paints a picture of an American government that could have ramped up mitigation and containment efforts far earlier to prepare for a crisis poised to come home.”

Said one of the sources: “Analysts concluded it could be a cataclysmic event.”

Mail-In Voting ‘Doesn’t Work Out Well for Republicans’
April 8, 2020 at 9:36 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

President Trump tweeted what typically stays silent:

“Republicans should fight very hard when it comes to state wide mail-in voting. Democrats are clamoring for it. Tremendous potential for voter fraud, and for whatever reason, doesn’t work out well for Republicans.”

Watching Ballot Access In the Big Three Battlegrounds
April 8, 2020 at 9:30 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 4 Comments

First Read: “After what happened in Wisconsin’s election yesterday, it’s become clear that how this country conducts its elections will be the biggest political fight outside of the general election. And in particular, it might come all come down to ballot access in the three battlegrounds of Michigan, Pennsylvania and the aforementioned Wisconsin.”

“The good news for Democrats, as they’ve howled at the GOP efforts to proceed yesterday with Wisconsin’s election, is that all three states have expanded absentee and mail voting in recent years.”

“Indeed, these three states back in 2016 were mostly Election Day-voting states.”

*“Last October, Pennsylvania’s governor signed into law a measure that allows state voters to cast ballots by mail without needing an excuse.”

*“In Michigan now, all registered voters can request an absentee ballot without providing a reason.”

*“And in Wisconsin, despite all of the problems we saw yesterday, absentee voting was higher than ever before in the state.”

“Now none of these three states is Colorado or Washington state, which conduct their elections almost entirely by mail, but they’re also not the Election Day-only states they used to be, either.”

Quote of the Day

“Everybody is amazed at the job we’re doing. And the public is starting to find out. They’re starting — you know, one of the reasons I do these news conferences — because if I didn’t, they would believe fake news. And we can’t let them believe fake news.”
— President Trump, at his daily coronavirus briefing.

IT'S GETTING MORE AND MORE DIFFICULT FOR TRUMP TO PAPER OVER TRUTH WITH HIS IGNORANT BLATHER

it has become obvious that this entire shitshow has been wildly overblown.

it has also become obvious that the state, county, and local leaders that have been the most fascist, tyrannical, and draconian with their stay at home measure have been overwhelmingly democrat.

HERE'S SOMETHING THAT IS BECOMING OBVIOUS

Does Trump Realize Michigan Is a Battleground?
April 8, 2020 at 9:56 am EDT By Taegan Goddard Leave a Comment

Daniel McGraw:
“Trump’s insults to Michigan governor Gretchen Whitmer go beyond his usual craziness. When Whitmer, a Democrat who won the 2018 governor’s race by more than 400,000 votes, began asking the feds for more masks, ventilators, test kits, and other aid, Trump insulted her at press conferences and on Twitter.

“Trump’s behavior toward Michigan is strange enough that it makes you wonder whether he fully understands that he needs to win the state to secure a second term."

Michigan is no longer a Toss Up on the consensus electoral map.

Draconian measures seem to be the only things that are working in other parts of the country and the world, Ch.
And even that is not entirely certain.

President Donald Trump’s feeling confident that the ventilator shortage crisis amid the COVID-19 pandemic is fixed. After all, that’s what Fox News host Sean Hannity is saying!

During an interview with the conservative anchor on Tuesday night, Trump claimed that hospitals battling the coronavirus outbreak are “not needing nearly as many” beds and ventilators “as they thought.”

“In fact, I just saw on your show–and a couple of other people just reported back to me–that everyone is in great shape from the standpoint of ventilators,” he told Hannity. “Which is very hard because they’re very expensive and they’re big and they’re very high-tech.”

But contrary to Trump’s claim on Tuesday and his previous complaints that ungrateful governors are overstating how many ventilators they need, the crucial machines are still very much in short supply.

Projection Shows Death Toll Falling Again
April 8, 2020 at 10:23 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 99 Comments

Reuters: “The University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation model is one of several that the White House task force has cited.

“It now projects U.S. deaths at more than 60,000 by Aug. 4, down from the nearly 82,000 fatalities it had forecast on Tuesday.”
____________
Let us HOPE that reflects reality.
Although 60,000 deaths by Aug. 4 still seems a lot, it would be almost 22,000 less deaths than previously predicted.

But who really knows?

C.H. Truth said...

Yes Rog... this was addressed yesterday. Based on new modeling the state of New York should at most need 5664 ventilators. We would need only 16,524 ventilators country wide.

That is from Covid19.healthdata.org

That is an official modeling statistic... not something made up by Hannity.

Hannity probably "reported on it" on his show. But just because he reported it, doesn't change the fact that it's a modeling statistic (not a Hannity deal).

But contrary to Trump’s claim on Tuesday and his previous complaints that ungrateful governors are overstating how many ventilators they need, the crucial machines are still very much in short supply.

Although the governor on Monday said that New York hospitals and health care facilities had enough ventilators and protective equipment for the current caseload, he followed through with a pledge he made last week to issue an executive order allowing the state Department of Health to seize unused ventilators and other medical equipment from upstate hospitals and transfer the devices to hard-hit areas, including New York City, that may run short.

"DOH may shift any such items not currently needed, or needed in the short-term future by a health care facility, to be transferred to a facility in urgent need of such inventory, for purposes of ensuring New York hospitals, facilities and health care workers have the resources necessary to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, and distribute them where there is an immediate need," the order, signed Tuesday by Cuomo, states.

"We don't need any additional ventilators right now," Cuomo had said Monday, noting that California and other states, including Oregon, had returned hundreds of ventilators they received from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to a federal stockpile for redistribution to other states.

Our rat the fucking loser making shit up again.....so sad and predictable for a trump fellator......BWAAAAAAAA!!!!

so we probably won't even hit our average annual flu totals. A little research and the fucking NY idiot would have found the real answer instead of the R erroneous talking point!!!

More than 200,000 people are hospitalized each year in the United States for the flu illness and its complications and between 3,000 and 49,000 people die each year from the flu. The number of flu deaths every year varies.
For example,
The average number of flu deaths during the 1990s was 36,000.
Average number over a longer time frame from 1976 to 2007 was 23,607 deaths.
If you take the number of deaths year wise, you will find a vast variation with a low of 3,349 deaths during the flu season of 1986-87 to a high of 48,614 in 2003-04.

So how do the flu and coronavirus compare? Just a few weeks ago, the flu appeared to be the more menacing concern. The death rate from influenza is generally just a fraction of 1%.
How things have changed.
During a March 11 hearing of the House Oversight and Reform Committee on coronavirus preparedness, Anthony Fauci, MD, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease, put it plainly: "The seasonal flu that we deal with every year has a mortality of 0.1%,” he told the congressional panel, whereas coronavirus is "10 times more lethal than the seasonal flu," per STAT news.
