Other news outlets, including CNN and the Washington Post, confirmed the story. Trump also spent much of Sunday attacking news outlets, including the New York Times and Fox News, for their coverage of his presidency.
So when did it become so common place for our media to be driven by clandestine tips, anonymous sources, and rumors that cannot be publicly confirmed by anyone with the actual ability to do so? How is it that there seems to be nobody holding anyone in the media responsible for getting rumor after rumor after rumor after rumor dead wrong?
Today, we read rumor after rumor after rumor about things that never actually take place, much less take place within any specific time period. To be clear, when something reported doesn't come true... then that report is wrong, regardless of how many media outlets report it. This basic concept seems to have become lost on an entire generation of American who treat the news as if it's a giant game of he said she said rather than something that it tangible and real.
To be clear. There is no reason why anyone from the White House would deny that someone being fired is going to be fired. There is also no reason why the White House would suddenly change their minds about firing someone, simply to spite the reports. If the media reports that someone is getting fired, and that person is not fired, then they got it wrong.
Why is that so hard to understand?

I think Birx made it perfectly clear this weekend that she doesn't believe that the briefings are necessarily accomplishing their goals of providing information to the public, largely (as she sees it) because the media is too concerned about keeping the wrong things in the news cycle.
She sounded as if she feels that the daily briefings providing information is important... but that the information is being ignored in favor of other peripheral things.
Perhaps the briefings will continue so many times a week, rather than every day. We may never get back to any sort of Question and Answer sessions because they really turn out to be red herring and non sequitur.

Locally, our Governor has not listened to anyone at the Federal level, instead is choosing to rely on his own medical experts he found locally at the University of Minnesota.
These experts are still in bed with the concept that at least two thirds of Minnesotans will get Covid-19 and that tens of thousands will die. It's just a matter of when.
The problem for Walz is that these numbers do not appear to be generally realistic at all, especially considering we happen to be surrounded by States that are not locked down and doing just as well as we are (if not better).
Meanwhile, the idea of "flattening the curve" to not overwhelm our medical community has lead to huge staff furloughing and reduction of hours throughout the local medical community with is running at 35% capacity.
There no longer remains a logical reason to keep flattening the curve when we are in a position to take on whatever negative affects of the INEVITABLE Covid-19 cases and deaths that Walz and HIS EXPERTS demand we will experience.
So he is caught in a logical problem area. His original assertion for flattening the curve is no longer a valid reason to keep us locked down, and we do not have the sort of negative numbers (outside of the nursing home and medical care facilities) that justifies his lock down (when we are literally surrounded on most of our border by states not in lock down.
So what's a Governor to do?
The only reason left for him to remain in lock down is political.

Nobody wants anyone to act "hasty" in either direction here. It is both possible to "overreact" as well as "underreact" and either case of bad judgement will have devastating consequences.
