Is Governor Kemp murdering people by reopening Georgia "too soon"?

'Experiment in human sacrifice' fails to materialize as GOP governor reopens Georgia
But since May 1, the daily count of confirmed cases and deaths have dropped markedly. As of Wednesday, the seven-day moving average of new cases was 242, down from 773 on April 29. The seven-day moving average of deaths was 12, down sharply from 34 on April 29, according to the state health department. Hospitalizations in the state stood at 1,125 on Wednesday, a decline from the 1,500 figure on May 1, according to the Georgia Emergency Management Agency.
Some public health experts caution that it is too soon to gauge the outcome of relaxed stay-at-home orders. “It’s too early to tell much,” said Andreas Handel, a biologist at the University of Georgia. “The lags involved from new infection to symptoms to testing to having a case notification are so long that I think we need another one or two weeks of data before we can get a good picture of the potential impact.”

Technically I believe that the seven day moving averages are a bit deceptive, but the truth remains that the numbers have leveled, if not dropped. Yesterday they reported approximately 500 cases and 27 deaths according to Worldometer. This is down from where it has been, but not as much as the seven day averages would suggest.

What we do know is that Georgia is not seeing the sort of massive increase in cases or deaths that some were expecting. While I appreciate that it may be another week or two before we know for sure, there has been no real suggestion that Governor Kemp was sacrificing people (any more than Governors from places like South Dakota and Iowa were attempting to sacrifice people).

The odd dynamic to all of this is that there are those who are likely rooting for Georgia to fail. Not because they want people to die, but because they want to validate their own beliefs that shutting everyone in and destroying the economy was and still is the only option. The fact that the states with looser restrictions have not seen the widespread problems that many locked down states runs counterintuitive to their beliefs, and likely provides them with a twinge of guilt over the situation.

What if it is eventually determined that there was not much medical downside to the actions of South Dakota, Sweden or other places that did not shut down? Wouldn't that call into question the absolutely economically crushing policies we put into place in most of the country?

At one point in time, the idea was to get everyone into quarantine for that 10-15 day period where these things would be contagious, and that was supposed to slow down the spread exponentially. In fact, it seemed to do the opposite in many countries and states. But yet, we have continued to push for that same containment that in theory should have taken 10-15 days to isolate, but still hasn't effectively put anything to a halt several weeks later.

That seems to be the definition of insanity, especially when every day we waited or are still waiting, someone else loses a business, a job, depletes their life's savings, hits a limit on a credit card, or misses a bill, rent, or mortgage.

Maybe things will go back down hill in Georgia over the next couple of weeks or maybe not. Maybe they will have to reevaluate or maybe not. But it would be more patriotic, more Christian, or more positive to root for success, rather than failure. Your own ego is not that important in all of this.

James: Which is what the medical experts have been saying, with emphasis on the possibility that an increase in infections and a loss of lives may force such an evaluation.

Large Scale Vaccine Testing to Begin Soon

“At least four or five possible vaccines ‘look pretty promising’ and one or two will be ready to begin large-scale testing by July with others to follow soon.”

Medical Journal Calls for Trump to Be Replaced
May 15, 2020 at 7:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Lancet, one of the world’s oldest and best-known medical journals, accused President Trump of injecting partisan politics into his response to the coronavirus pandemic and suggests that a change is in order in the White House.

“Americans must put a president in the White House come January, 2021, who will understand that public health should not be guided by partisan politics.”

James: Why wouldn't it be more "patriotic, more Christian, and more positive" to root for the TRUTH to come out regarding this so that our leaders and our people will better know what we should do?

I guess it depends on your definition of the truth...

If that truth is based entirely on the empirical data and what can be proven through actual factual happenings... then we should be "accepting" that truth, rather than still "looking for it". Because there is enough empirical data today to start to make many, many determinations. Those factual determinations should be our "truth".

If, on the other hand, we demand that the facts as we see them today are not the "truth" because those facts don't jive with certain political conventional wisdom or because those facts don't validate what it is that we want to be believe...

Then I will offer that the "truth" is not the truth at all... but rather an opinion unsupported by facts.

and I will choose to stick to the facts.

C.H. Truth said...

It's all an experiment involving human lives...

In my state we are experimenting with how we will deal with 15-20 percent unemployment and how that will affect the human lives of nearly a million out of work Minnesotans while still having more deaths than everyone else around us...

It's going to be very difficult for anyone not associated with the Metro area who saw almost no virus, but saw devastating financial impacts... while their neighbors got to keep working and supporting their families...

all because a ton of elderly in our metro nursing homes were dying.

That is not a pretty experiment with human lives.

But our Governor chose to perform the experiment all the same.

Regarding the decision of the Department of Justice to dismiss charges against General Flynn, in your recent call with your alumni, you expressed great concern: “there is no precedent that anybody can find for someone who has been charged with perjury just getting off scot-free. That’s the kind of stuff where you begin to get worried that basic — not just institutional norms — but our basic understanding of rule of law is at risk.”

Now, a potential fact:

From this morning's Politco especially for you James.

Florida just doesn’t look nearly as bad as the national news media and sky-is-falling critics have been predicting for about two months now. But then, the national news media is mostly based in New York and loves to love its Democratic governor, Andrew Cuomo, about as much as it loves to hate on Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis.

First, let’s just come out and say it: DeSantis looks more right than those who criticized the Sunshine State’s coronavirus response. According to the latest Florida figures, fewer than 2,000 have died, and around 43,000 have been infected. That’s a fraction of the dire predictions made for Florida when spring breakers swarmed the beaches…

Cuomo also has something else DeSantis doesn’t: a press that defers to him, one that preferred to cover “Florida Morons” at the beach (where it’s relatively hard to get infected) over New Yorkers riding cramped subway cars (where it’s easy to get infected). In fact, people can still ride the subways for most hours of the day in New York, but Miami Beach’s sands remain closed. Maybe things would be different if DeSantis had a brother who worked in cable news and interviewed him for a “sweet moment” in primetime.

Neurosurgeon Says Face Masks Pose Serious Risk to Healthy People

Every Karen on Facebook is shaming her neighbors for not wearing a face mask. We are being told by governors that if we don’t wear them we are selfish, horrible human beings with no souls who want Grandma to die a horrible death. Police are tackling people who don’t wear them properly in the subway. Grocery stores are throwing maskless people out and denying them service. But now, there’s another doctor weighing in—besides Dr. Fauci, bonafide sex god and ruler of us all, who also said face masks are largely security theater and of no use to the healthy. Dr. Russell Blaylock, a neurosurgeon, has written an editorial addressing healthy people wearing masks to protect themselves from COVID-19 and his advice is: don’t.

Now that we have established that there is no scientific evidence necessitating the wearing of a face mask for prevention, are there dangers to wearing a face mask, especially for long periods? Several studies have indeed found significant problems with wearing such a mask. This can vary from headaches, to increased airway resistance, carbon dioxide accumulation, to hypoxia, all the way to serious life-threatening complications.

The importance of these findings is that a drop in oxygen levels (hypoxia) is associated with an impairment in immunity. Studies have shown that hypoxia can inhibit the type of main immune cells used to fight viral infections called the CD4+ T-lymphocyte. This occurs because the hypoxia increases the level of a compound called hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1), which inhibits T-lymphocytes and stimulates a powerful immune inhibitor cell called the Tregs. . This sets the stage for contracting any infection, including COVID-19 and making the consequences of that infection much graver. In essence, your mask may very well put you at an increased risk of infections and if so, having a much worse outcome.5,6,7

Trump’s Attacks on Mail Voting May Backfire

Reuters:
“With less than three weeks to go before the primary, 1,178,475 Pennsylvania voters have applied for absentee ballots, a 14-fold increase from 2016. Nearly 70% of those requests have come from registered Democrats, state data as of May 13 show. That margin is far wider than the 55% to 45% registration advantage held by Democrats in the state.

“That’s a worrisome harbinger for Republicans looking ahead to the general election, if coronavirus remains a health threat and Democrats continue their mail-in advantage.”

We need to listen to this scientist:

‘We could open up again and forget the whole thing’

Governments around the world say they are following ‘The Science’ with their draconian measures to stem the spread of the virus. But the science around Covid-19 is bitterly contested. Many experts have serious doubts about the effectiveness of the measures, and argue that our outside fears of Covid-19 are not justified. Knut Wittkowski is one such expert who has long argued for a change of course. For 20 years, Wittkowski was the head of Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design at The Rockefeller University’s Center for Clinical and Translational Science. spiked spoke to him to find out more about the pandemic.

...

spiked: Governments say they are following the science. Is that really true?

Wittkowski: They have the scientists on their side that depend on government funding. One scientist in Germany just got $500million from the government, because he always says what the government wants to hear.

Scientists are in a very strange situation. They now depend on government funding, which is a trend that has developed over the past 40 years. Before that, when you were a professor at a university, you had your salary and you had your freedom. Now, the university gives you a desk and access to the library. And then you have to ask for government money and write grant applications. If you are known to criticise the government, what does that do to your chance of getting funded? It creates a huge conflict of interest. The people who are speaking out in Germany and Switzerland are all independent of government money because they are retired.

spiked: Did the Swedish scientists get it right?

Wittkowski: Sweden did the right thing. And they had to take a lot of heat for it. Now compare Sweden and the UK. The only difference is that Sweden did fine. They did have a problem. They had a relatively high number of deaths among the nursing homes. They decided to keep society open and they forgot to close nursing homes. Remarkably, the politicians acknowledged that it was a mistake to extend that open concept to nursing homes. The nursing homes should have been isolated to protect the elderly who are at high risk. But I think the Swedish government is doing well to even acknowledge that mistake.

READ WHOLE ARTICLE AND OPEN UP: https://www.spiked-online.com/2020/05/15/we-could-open-up-again-and-forget-the-whole-thing/

Criticizing the government response here now gets you censored from Facebook and Twitter for spreading "untrue" information, the same as the Nazi's used to do.

Unless you are criticizing republicans.

Historian: New evidence shows FDR’s bigotry derailed many Holocaust rescue plans

On June 22 of 1982, Menachem Begin testified before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

During that committee hearing, at the height of the Lebanon War, Sen. John Biden (Delaware) had attacked Israeli settlements in Judea and Samaria and threatened that if Israel did not immediately cease this activity, the US would have to cut economic aid to Israel.

“Don’t threaten us with cutting off your aid. It will not work. I am not a Jew with trembling knees. I am a proud Jew with 3,700 years of civilized history. Nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens. Nobody came to our aid when we were striving to create our country. We paid for it. We fought for it. We died for it. We will stand by our principles. We will defend them. And, when necessary, we will die for them again, with or without your aid.”

Note: When Begin said, “Nobody came to our aid when we were dying in the gas chambers and ovens.” He wasn’t talking about the American heroes and those of our allies who put their lives on the line or lost their lives fighting Hitler. He was talking about the fact that FDR could have saved up to 200,000 of Hitler’s victims but didn’t want more Jews in the US. Churchill could have saved tens of thousands also but lacked the courage.

Not learning his lesson, Senator Biden Senator raised his voice at Begin and banged twice on the table. Begin responded.

“This desk is designed for writing, not for fists. Don’t threaten us with slashing aid. Do you think that because the US lends us money it is entitled to impose on us what we must do? We are grateful for the assistance we have received, but we are not to be threatened. I am a proud Jew. Three thousand years of culture are behind me, and you will not frighten me with threats. Take note: we do not want a single soldier of yours to die for us.”

May 15, 2020 at 2:07 pm EDT By Taegan Goddard

Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said that the campaign views Arizona, Texas and Georgia as battleground states they intend to contest and win, The Hill reports.

The campaign says Arizona is at the top of their list of red states that could turn blue for the first time in decades this November.

Said O’Malley Dillon: “This is something we are very, very focused on. We believe there will be an expanded map in 2020. We believe there will be battleground states that have never been battleground states before.”
__________

Well, that seems a bit over optimistic, but if Biden COULD win AZ, TX, and GA, he would win with 297 elect. votes, and that without winning a single one of the now recognized five battlegrounds states: WI, MI, PA, NC, FL.

Coronavirus in Illinois updates:
Here’s what’s happening Friday with COVID-19 in the Chicago area

By CHICAGO TRIBUNE STAFF
MAY 15, 2020 | 12:38 PM

While there’s no guarantee, Gov. J.B. Pritzker said Thursday the Chicago region is now on track to move to the next phase of his reopening plan on May 29.

The seven-day average of positive coronavirus tests dipped below 20% as of Monday, setting up Cook County and eight surrounding counties to move to phase three of the five-phase “Restore Illinois" plan.

The news came as Illinois Public Health Director Dr. Ngozi Ezike announced 3,239 new known cases of COVID-19 and 138 additional confirmed deaths.

That brings the overall number of known cases to 87,937 and the statewide death toll to 3,928 since the pandemic began.

But as you can see, about 54 million (60 million actually) international passengers pass through those other airports (16 plus million through New York alone) compared to the 6 plus million through Atlanta.

Seems pretty significant to me. The larger problems are centered around those airports, particularly in the Northeast and out West, with larger numbers of international passengers passing through.

If you do test them they will still be at some risk, there is no guarantee the test will be 100% accurate or if they are are there's no guarantee that you won't get infected after you tested negative. Testing <> immunity.

The only to be 100% risk free is the hide in a hermetically sealed germ-free environment and stop living (literally since you'll suffocate).

All life is about managing risk and about the lowest risk thing we can do is open schools since children are uniquely immune to this virus and are not spreaders.

A Study in Leadership
Anne Applebaum, staff writer
THE ATLANTIC

One knows, of course, that Donald Trump behaves differently from the leaders of other countries,
especially the leaders of other Western democracies.
One knows that he disdains facts;
that he does not read briefing papers;
that he has no organizational talents;
that he does not know how to make use of militaries, bureaucracies, or diplomatic services;
that he has no basic knowledge of history or science, let alone government.

But seeing him in this video [LINKED ABOVE],
produced by my colleagues in Atlantic Studios,
juxtaposed with other world leaders during this coronavirus pandemic comes, nevertheless, as a shock.
Chancellor Angela Merkel, President Emmanuel Macron, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, and President Moon Jae-in all speak
of evidence-based policy,
of the need to take the disease seriously,
of empathy and solidarity.

Trump speaks of hoaxes,
of a disease no different from the flu,
of a “germ that has gotten so brilliant that we can’t keep up with it,”
of disinfectant as a miracle cure.
Even now, even in the worst public-health crisis in a century,
he divides people instead of unifying them,
creating precisely the kind of distrust that makes the disease harder to defeat.
He cannot demonstrate empathy,
because he is incapable of feeling any.
He cannot demonstrate solidarity,
because he has only disdain for his fellow citizens.

Senator Richard Burr resigned his chairmanship of the Senate Intelligence Committee after being served a warrant by the FBI. Burr is being investigated for what appears to be insider trading in stocks after receiving a classified briefing on the dangers of Covid-19.

Burr was also the chair of a bipartisan committee that had endorsed the findings of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation, concluding that Russians did, in fact, attack America in 2016. The committee went beyond Mueller’s conclusions to suggest that members of the Trump campaign welcomed that intervention.

The committee was due to issue its final report soon. Now, with Burr out of the chairmanship, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell will appoint a successor, and rumors are that it will be Marco Rubio. You remember "Little Marco" don't you?

It seems likely that whoever takes the committee chairmanship will change the report so it falls in line with Der Fuhrer's narrative that the Russian investigation was illegitimate, and feeds into Miss Lindsey Graham's upcoming farce of a "fact finding committee" into "Obamagate".

Trump Riles the Nation During a Crisis

New York Times:
“Far from a one-day onslaught, it was a climactic moment in a weeklong lurch by Mr. Trump back to the darkest tactics that defined his rise to political power. Even those who have grown used to Mr. Trump’s conduct in office may have found themselves newly alarmed by the grim spectacle of a sitting president deliberately stoking the country’s divisions and pursuing personal vendettas in the midst of a crisis that has Americans fearing for their lives and livelihoods.

“Since well before he became president, Mr. Trump’s appetite for conflict has defined him as a public figure. But in recent days he has practiced that approach with new intensity, signaling both the depths of his election-year distress and his determination to blast open a path to a second term, even at the cost of further riling a country in deep anguish.

“His electoral path has narrowed rapidly since the onset of the pandemic, as the growth-and-prosperity theme of his campaign disintegrated. In private, Mr. Trump has been plainly aggrieved at the loss of his central argument for re-election.”

Newly reopened Fla. area seen as an emerging virus hotspot
Yahoo News May 15th 2020 8:14PM

WASHINGTON — Federal officials responding to the coronavirus pandemic are concerned about the rapidly rising number of cases in Palm Beach County, Fla., according to an internal Trump administration document reviewed by Yahoo News.

The document, a May 15 daily interagency update on the nation’s coronavirus response circulated by the Department of Homeland Security, notes new areas of concern for coronavirus. It was provided to Yahoo News by one of its recipients under the condition that that recipient not be identified.

“As most states have begun phased re-opening, several COVID-19 hotspots continue to emerge,” the notice says. Three counties are then listed: Palm Beach; San Bernardino County, Calif.; and Marshall County, Ala.

“Palm Beach County, FL reported a 71% increase in new cases the last 7 days compared to the previous 7 days,” the document explains. “The state authorized Palm Beach County to begin Phase 1 of reopening on 11 May, which includes the reopening of barbershops, salons, restaurants, and other businesses.”

President Trump recently changed his primary residence from Manhattan to his Mar-a-Lago golf resort, which is located in Palm Beach County.

The information in the document is attributed to the Federal Emergency Management Agency and was collected on May 12, which means cases were rising even before the county began to reopen on May 11. Other parts of the state had begun to reopen earlier, on May 4.

Neither FEMA nor the DHS responded immediately to a request for comment.

The DHS document says that San Bernardino County in California “reported an increase of 782 cases in the last 7 days, nearly doubling new cases reported in the previous 7 days. County officials recently began Phase II of the county’s reopening plan, lifting requirements for mask use on 8 May.”

Marshall County, Ala., the document says, “reported 217 cases in the last 7 days, a 517% increase over the previous 7 days. Marshall County is home to several poultry plants and the meat packing industry accounts for 8% of the county’s employment. On 11 May, additional businesses were reopened.”

Public health officials have warned that lifting stay-at-home orders would lead to more infections and, inevitably, more deaths. Some governors have either discounted or dismissed such warnings, as has President Trump.

Reality Reverend gullible...

Florida (as a state) is running flat in cases (likely due to an increase in testing) and deaths are down considerably. There are going to be some counties that will run above the curve and some that will run below the curve.

If cases are up in Palm beach, then cases are down in other parts of the state (that's how averages work).
