Obama falsely claims there is no Precedent for Generals getting off for lying to the FBI?

Hypocrisy is the bedrock of liberalism...

Retired Marine Gen. James E. Cartwright pleaded guilty in late 2016 to lying to the agency about his discussions with reporters about Iran’s nuclear program, specifically whether he had leaked classified information about a joint U.S.-Israel operation against it.
The Times reported in 2017 that Gen. Cartwright, a former vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, had “earned a reputation as the president’s favorite general” and was represented by longtime Democratic insider-lawyer Greg Craig.

This is a classic example of how our main stream media is either the most incompetent and lazy media actors in history or the most politically biased. The only question here is whether the media doesn't actually know such a situation took place (realistic) or that they know and simply refuse to report on it (just as realistic). Either way, this is part of the reason that there is simply no trust in the media and why almost everyone believes that the media is generally doing the bidding of political parties rather than cover the news.

Given that this guy did actually lie about multiple meetings he had with a NY Times reporter, there was a legitimate reason for the FBI to investigate, he had received a target letter notifying him that he officially under investigation when he lied to the FBI, the charges of lying to the FBI seemed more than legitimate. As far as I know, Obama provided no evidence that Cartwright was unjustly accused, unjustly set up, or that he believed himself to be innocent of the allegations of lying.

Cartwright's only real arguments were that he was interviewed without attorneys present and that the information he was giving to reporters was not classified. Of course not being guilty of the underlying charges is not quite as strong of an argument as not actually being under any real investigation (which is Flynn's argument).

Now perhaps Obama is suggesting that the unprecedented move is just the portion where the guilty plea is withdrawn (but that happens all the time). Because we certainly know that there is precedent for lying Generals to plead guilty of lying to the FBI, and then having those charges tossed before the Judge could sentence them.

When you claim getting off.....what the fuck do you mean?????? He plead guilty Did the DOJ change their mind like barr did and make up a bullshit excuse it did not matter????? Or did Obama do something nefarious before sentencing because he was a favorite???? I can't wait for your spinning and lies Lil Schitty as your straw man is exceptionally stupid today!!!!!!

Sorry Denny...

In this case everyone knew that the General was guilty of lying.

- There was an official FBI investigation.
- There was an actual target letter sent.
- There was no actual tangible evidence of any FBI set up.
- There was no changing of the 302 statement by people who were not there.
- There was no illegal DOJ threats to get this General to plea.

He lied to the FBI about his contacts with the media.
He was charged
He plead guilty
The judge was about to sentence him
President Obama pardoned him

Then Obama comes out and says there is no precedent for a person who plead guilty for lying to the FBI to not face the consequences.

We've already seen the examples of Eric Holder and his DOJ allowing multiple pleas to be withdrawn at similar points in time... something that we all know happens with a reasonable deal of frequency.

Now we have an actual General who plead guilty of lying to the FBI...

Who was let off by the Obama administration prior to sentencing.

after spending over 3 million saying you didn't lie and being forced to sell your house to cover legal bills defending yourself, after being told you lied though the original agents even with a transcript said you didn't and they still haven't provided their original documentation to the defense, when the agency itself was about to close the case with you innocent, when the government says they are next going to go after your son, when your lawyers who happen to include conflicted Eric Holder who actually inserted himself tell you that you better accept a plea and plead guilty and then you do...

You didn't lie

You were crushed by a corrupt deep state out to destroy you. And a complicit media

Flynn’s original FD-302 is so important, the Special Counsel had to leak a prosecution threat against Flynn’s son just to avoid turning it over to his original lawyers Covington

THREAD
---
Wed Nov 1, 2017: Flynn’s original lawyers Covington ask for a copy of his FD-302: “We don’t think he has committed a felony offense”

Fri Nov 3, 2017: Covington ask for the FD-302 AGAIN: “We don’t think there’s a FARA violation. We don’t think he made false statements”
---
The Special Counsel refused to turn over Flynn’s original FD-302 both those times. Instead, they schedule a follow up conference call with Covington for the following week and subtly threaten Covington that they might be a fact witness against Flynn for preparing his FARA filings
---
Flynn hasnt pled guilty to anything at this point. His lawyers are adamant he’s *innocent*. And the SCO won’t even turn over the edited FD-302, never mind the original one, for them to look at
---
The SCO claimed they couldn’t turn over the FD-302 because it would “reveal” parts of their overall Russia interference investigation. But even the edited version of the Jan 24, 2017 interview shows Flynn wasn’t asked about Russian interference or anything remotely like Collusion
---
And we now know that the FBI itself wanted to close its Crossfire Razor investigation of Flynn for potential links to Russian interference long before that Jan 24, 2017 interview
---
And that investigation of Flynn should never have been opened in the first place, given its laughably weak predicate lacking any articulable factual basis for believing he could have been colluding or conspiring with Russia
---
We also now know that the Dec 29 Flynn-Kislyak call changed nothing with regards to any Collusion. And the FBI never opened a Logan Act criminal probe (which would also have been ridiculous)
---
And in the Mueller report, the SCO itself admits Flynn merely asked Russia not to “escalate” in response to Obama’s sanctions or only respond “reciprocally”. There’s nothing wrong with that.
What should he have said, go ahead nuclear armed Russia, please escalate?
---
So the SCO wouldn’t be “revealing” anything legitimate about its Russian interference investigation by turning over Flynn’s FD-302 - any of them, even the heavily edited versions filed weeks after the interview
---
Of course, what turning over the 302 would have really revealed is likely a document stating that the agents didn’t believe Flynn was lying, and metadata proving that it went through weeks of editing and polishing in violation of FBI policies
---
If even Covington (never mind @SidneyPowell1) got their hands on any version of the 302, given their adamant position that Flynn was “innocent”, Flynn almost certainly would have fought the charges vigorously
---
And if the SCO tried to indict Flynn anyway, that would have meant discovery, pre-trial depositions etc. Given what we now know 2.5 years later, that would have blown a gaping hole in the SCO’s case
---
So back to Fri Nov 3, 2017. The SCO has been asked for the 302, twice. White shoe Covington say their guy is “innocent” of all charges. How do the SCO change the dynamic? They leak to the press that they’re going to charge his son with a felony unless he gives in and plead guilty

---

continues

Sun Nov 5, 2017: “Three sources” close to the Flynn investigation leak this to NBC news:

“If the elder Flynn is willing to co-operate with investigators in order to help his son, two of sources said, it could also change his own fate, potentially limiting any legal consequences”
---
In case
@GenFlynn
didn’t get this “message”, look at the photo ABC news use to highlight the story. Flynn with his son. “Three” sources “close to the investigation” leaked this, to Collusion/Fusion GPS friendly reporters. An investigation that at the time almost nobody knew about
https://twitter.com/JohnWHuber/status/1261447308979384321
---
By the time Covington follow up with the SCO after this weekend of light reading of veiled threats for the Flynn family, they’ve already agreed to bring Flynn in for a “proffer” - a prelude to pleading guilty to the false statements offense
---
This is despite Covington circulating in internal memos at the time talking points that “We are firmly of the view that he did not commit any felony offenses. There are no circumstances under which he would plea to a felony offense”

---
Remember: Covington - not @SidneyPowell1 - are on record here REPEATEDLY saying their guy is *innocent*. They are “firmly” of this belief. And they’ve been representing him for months. This isn’t something they dreamed up after 5 minutes talking to the General
---
The SCO turned over zero documents to Covington that would make them change their assessment of Flynn’s innocence. In fact, had the SCO turned *anything* over, it would have strengthened the view that Flynn could mount a strong defense against any false statement charge
---
Examples:

—Comey’s testimony that both agents didn’t think Flynn lied

—302 - likely says the same thing

—Closing EC for “Razor”, showing the FBI wanted to close its own case

—Kislyak transcript

—That no Logan Act EC existed opening a new case

—Strzok/Page texts showing bias
---
Any or all of those would blow a hole in *both* mandatory elements of the 1001 false statements charge - that any lie was “knowing” and “willful” (Flynn lied, deliberately) and “material” - i.e. could influence a genuine predicated FBI investigation

---
The only thing that changed - the only thing - is that the SCO leaked to the press that they were deadly serious about going after Flynn’s son. And after the elder Flynn had racked up millions in legal bills himself, who can blame him for wanting to avoid that for his family too?
---
So Flynn ended up pleading guilty, and he’s been on the hook ever since

And the media once again played a crucial role in making it happen.

That’s why much of the media can’t cover the Flynn case properly. They were willing and eager participants in his prosecution

Well Roger...

at the time, the President and Vice President didn't have much reason to doubt the WaPo story or ever dreamed that the FBI would actually do what they did to General Flynn.

They mistakenly believed that our Federal law enforcement could be trusted to tell the truth... when it is clear that they were lying all along.

But believing WaPo stories and trusting the FBI is something whose ship has long sailed. Tells you how things were different back in 2016, 2017, huh?

the FBI should never be trusted again.

ever.

not for any reason.

if we were smart, and we're not, the FBI would be disbanded immediately. it's a criminal enterprise.

The Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) will give the 2020 presidential candidates intelligence-based threat briefings instead of the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) going forward, a statement from the ODNI said.

The statement said:

Today, the ODNI announced that the U.S. Intelligence Community (IC) will lead all intelligence-based threat briefings to candidates, campaigns, and political organizations under the U.S. Government’s notification framework. Bill Evanina, the Director of the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, will serve as the IC’s leader to this critical effort.

This change represents an important improvement and simplification to the threat notification process. The IC will continue to work in partnership with FBI and DHS to identify and integrate threat information, and Evanina and the elections team will act swiftly to deliver the timely and thorough assessments to those affected by potential malicious influence.

Evanina said, “US elections are the foundation of our nation’s democracy. We are committed to supporting this Administration’s whole-of-government effort to secure the 2020 election.”

IN THE 2016 presidential race, then-candidate Donald Trump often deflected questions about his shortcomings by hyping those of his opponent, Hillary Clinton. The point was to make his behavior seem no more abhorrent than his rival’s.
Mr. Trump is trying the same tactic against presumptive Democratic nominee Joe Biden, latching onto a new diversion: “Obamagate.” This one is totally untethered from reality, despite the credulous or cynical efforts of senior Republicans and conservative media to advance it.
Mr. Trump’s precise allegation is hazy. But the apparent accusation is that, following Mr. Trump’s 2016 victory, Obama officials plotted to ensnare the incoming Trump administration in a Russia scandal.
Shortly before Mr. Trump’s inauguration, top Obama officials were told about phone conversations between Michael Flynn, a senior Trump national security aide, and Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. In one, Mr. Flynn discussed sanctions the Obama administration had placed on Russia in response to Kremlin election interference. Mr. Flynn counseled Mr. Kislyak to refrain from retaliating, telling him that “we’ll review everything,” according to Mr. Flynn’s own account.
Obama aides asked that Mr. Flynn’s name be “unmasked” — that is, revealed to those seeing the intelligence reports, as it was redacted in the initial versions. That is not unusual; Trump administration officials have unmasked names thousands of times. Meanwhile, FBI officials kept open their investigation into Mr. Flynn, and he subsequently lied to them about his conversations with Mr. Kislyak — a federal crime to which he pleaded guilty.
Mr. Trump and his allies connect these dots in absurd ways, in an attempt to excuse Mr. Flynn and slime the Obama administration, including Mr. Biden, who was one of the officials who asked for Mr. Flynn’s unmasking. “Americans have a right to know the depth of Biden’s involvement in the setup of Gen. Flynn to further the Russia collusion hoax,” Brad Parscale, Mr. Trump’s campaign manager, said Wednesday. Attorney General William P. Barr did his part, moving on May 7 to drop charges against Mr. Flynn, despite his guilty plea.
Yet unmasking is a common and legal practice for those who have the proper clearance, as Mr. Biden and other Obama officials did. There is no evidence that Mr. Obama, let alone Mr. Biden, ordered any “setup” of Mr. Flynn. Indeed, one of the documents Obamagate conspiracists point to indicates that Mr. Obama wanted all matters relating to the Russia probe handled “by the book.”
AD

Obamagate theorizers also have no good explanation for why Mr. Flynn lied to the FBI and to other Trump officials about his discussions with Mr. Kislyak. If there had been an Obama plot to set up Mr. Flynn, it could have been thwarted if Mr. Flynn had not broken the law. His crime was serious: He endangered national security, opening himself to Kremlin blackmail when he lied.
Mr. Trump would like to rewrite history, making it seem as though the Russia investigation lacked firm grounding and that a sinister Obama administration plot explains the misdeeds that his own people committed.

As for the airport matter, just make a list of all the states with the highest cases of the Covid-19 virus. List them in descending order.

Then ask yourself, which of these states have the largest airports with the largest numbers of international passengers passing through?

See how closely the two track:
Large airports = large numbers of cases.

No thanks Reverend..

Unlike you, I can gather facts on my own without relying on "articles" or Taegan Goddard to guide my opinions.

One of them lied to the FBI during an actual criminal investigation started over something he may actually have done.

The other didn't actually lie to the FBI and wasn't even under investigation when the FBI came and talked to him.

Of the two, the man who DID lie while ACTUALLY under investigation is way more guilty than the guy who DID NOT lie while NOT under investigation.

C.H. Truth said...

Dubai - not much going on there.
London - not anywhere near New York
Hong Kong - not much of an outbreak
Amsterdam - doing quite well thank you
Seoul - no problems there
Paris - about a 20% of New Yor
Singapore - Yeah... no
Frankfurt - Germany has reopened.
Banhgkok - again, not much of an outbreak.

How many busy international passenger airports do you want me to list before we get to New York to prove that there is no correlation between international travel and deaths.

Hell, Chicago doesn't even make the top 20 world wide list.

Try again, Reverend.

Unless you are making an argument that Covid-19 has a U.S. international airport bias that doesn't exist in the rest of the world?

And explain to me exactly how airport traffic and deaths in Nursing Homes and assisted living communities is associated? Do you believe that most international airport traffic are people coming to visit people in old folks homes?
