He was boasting about the recent positive uptick in the economy, as measured by indicators including improvements in the stock market.
“Nasdaq hit 10,000 for the first time, an all-time record,” Trump said. “Nasdaq, that was three, four days ago. In the middle of the pandemic, not in the middle, toward the end of the pandemic.”
That’s where Trump would like to think the country is: at the tail end of the pandemic. This isn’t really a new impulse for Trump, who has consistently played down the scale of the spread of the novel coronavirus in the United States.
In February and March, such efforts were mostly in service of not spooking the markets, which got spooked anyway. It seems quite possible that Trump’s motivation now is the same, that he seeks to maintain the sense that the country is ready to see a return to normal economic activity to make the outcome self-fulfilling. He’s pinned his reelection hopes on fixing some of the damage wrought by the pandemic and clearly hopes that the rickety mix of limited reopening and smaller increases in new confirmed cases will serve as the lattice necessary to do so.

Florida has shattered its previous record for the number of new coronavirus infections recorded in a day, roughly two weeks after the state transitioned into the second phase of its reopening plan.
The Florida Health Department reported 3,207 new cases on Thursday, marking the largest daily increase since early March. The previous record occurred on Tuesday, with the announcement of 2,782 new cases.
As of Thursday, Florida has recorded over 85,000 cases and at least 3,061 deaths. The recent spike in infections has some experts worried the state could become the next major hotspot for the virus.
“Florida has all the makings of the next large epicenter,” scientists at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s PolicyLab wrote in a blog post Wednesday. “The risk there is the worst it has ever been in our projections.”

In less than 24 hours, five shootings have taken place in Albany leaving one dead and a dozen people injured.
The fatal shooting happened on Third Street Thursday afternoon. A 34-year-old man was taken to the hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
The latest shooting happened last night near Second Street and Judson Street. Police say they got a call from Albany Medical Center around 9:30 last night notifying them a man went to the emergency room with a gunshot wound to the foot. Police say the victim was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Around 2:15 Thursday afternoon, police responded to Westerlo Street and found a 21-year-old man shot in the leg. He was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Early Thursday morning, seven people on Albany Street were taken to the hospital for treatment after shots were fired just before 2AM.
Two guns have been recovered from that scene.
Officers also responded to a shooting on Second Street around 12:30 overnight on Thursday where they found two men with non-life threatening injuries.

Second, they use the proportionality method, which is based on registered voters by state. This over samples very liberal CA and NY and I,set samples the top heartland.
