Two police officers were shot and killed in McAllen, Texas, on Saturday night, according to officials. The shooting took place as the officers were responding to a call at a home and came under fire.
"What I’m trying to tell you is the officers never had a chance to suspect a deadly assault on them," McAllen Police Chief Victor Rodriguez said at a press conference.
The suspect, identified as Aldon Caramillo, 23, had a history of arrests. His previous charges included driving under the influence, fleeing from officers, assault and marijuana possession, Rodriguez said.
"These are difficult moments, Rodriguez said. "The officers came here to maintain peace. Instead, they were taken down by gunfire. The next few days for us will be very, very difficult," he added.
The issue at hand is that once again someone was shot (this time two police officers) by someone with a long criminal record who probably never did any real time. Over the past week, we have had multiple murders involving children, and in one case both the shooters involved were out on bail awaiting trial for gun charges.
But in nearly every case, the shooter had a past record that would appear (on the surface) that if everything everyone on the left says about the unfair treatment of blacks in the justice system, that they should have been in jail considering their long history.
Assuming we no longer go along with three strikes and your out rule, does that mean that there isn't a time and place where the 10th 12th or 20th time someone is arrested or charged that you can put them away for more than a couple of weeks?
But this was just a couple of cops responding to a call like they do every day. Of course any day in the life of a cop could end up like this.
