Are some people just stupid?

So this is the quote:
The president has said, unmistakably, that he wants schools to open. And I was just in the [Oval Office] talking to him about that. And when he says “open,” he means, “open in full” – kids being able to attend each and every day at their school.

The science should not stand in the way of this. And as Dr. Scott Atlas, and I thought this was a good quote, [said], “Of course we can do it. Everyone else in the western world, our peer nations, are doing it. We are the outlier here.” The science is very clear on this that, for instance, you look at the [Journal of the American Medical Association] pediatric study of 46 pediatric hospitals in North America that said the risk of critical illness from COVID is far less for children than that of seasonal flu.

The science is on our side here. We encourage for localities and states to just simply follow the science. Open our schools.

So clearly McEnany is not only suggesting that science is on the side of reopening schools, she was providing evidence of such an argument. Pediatricians throughout the country have reached a consensus that reopening schools (as everyone else has) is not only safe, but a necessity. The type of online learning we had at the end of last year was simply not acceptable. To make next years students (especially high school students) miss another year of learning due to overzealous and medically unnecessary restrictions is simply idiotic.

It's a sad day when Jake Tapper has to be the liberal media voice of reason

Based on the logic being used to close the schools next year, schools should never reopen. At least not until we have completely eradicated the seasonal flu, which is much more prevalent, dangerous, and deadly to children than Covid-19.

But that is NOT how the media is reporting on this. They are completely reversing what McEnany stated and are basically redefining the statement that science should not stand in the way of reopening schools as if she was arguing that the science is in favor of keeping them closed. But very obviously the argument being made by the White House (and most of the medical community) is that the science favors opening up the schools.

This is just reckless and dishonest journalism folks.

Yet, there are many who favor such dishonesty, even when it involves the best interests of our children. I wonder out loud if these people are stupid, dishonest, or just simply bad people?

BUSINESS INSIDER from nine days ago:

Trump is forcing the CDC to ease school reopening guidelines despite experts' warnings that kids will be super-spreaders

The Trump administration is waging an aggressive campaign to reopen America's schools and the president has pressured the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to issue new, less restrictive guidelines.

Public health experts say it is dangerous for schools to reopen while the virus is continuing to spread within communities at high levels. The US reported 60,000 new cases on Tuesday, the highest US single day total so far in the pandemic.

While children are at a lower risk of suffering serious health consequences from Covid-19, experts warn they could act as asymptomatic super-spreaders.

"The highest risks are in settings with large groups of people, in enclosed spaces, for prolonged periods, in close proximity, with a lot of vocalizing. Much like a classroom, school bus, or cafeteria," one public health expert tweeted.

Children are less likely to get very ill, studies have shown
What we don’t know is how often they transmit the virus

As fall approaches in the U.S. and school districts debate whether to resume in-person classes, the issue is complicated by a dearth of knowledge about how Covid-19 is transmitted to and from children.

Other nations have sent children back to school — or never shuttered schools to begin with — but none has done so with the virus surging as it is in the U.S. On Monday, cases in the U.S. rose by 64,605 from a day earlier to 3.34 million.

It is now broadly recognized that the virus that causes Covid-19 can be airborne in crowded, indoor spaces like schools. And children are commonly known to be spreaders of other respiratory viruses, like the seasonal flu. But while there’s significant data showing children aren’t likely to become very ill from Covid-19, there’s less information on how likely they are to transmit it to others.

Well Reverend...

Empirical evidence has suggested that schools that have remained open (even through the original spread) did not have issues. Right now the pediatric consensus is that there is simply isn't much risk to children.

The RAW DATA is so overwhelmingly obvious to this point that arguing the opposite is approaching insanity.

Sounds to me like liberals are no longer arguing that we should FOLLOW THE SCIENCE - but rather we should ignore the consensus because it doesn't satisfy a political end.

But my understanding of liberals is that a scientific "consensus" is the sae thing as "settled science" or so they have been arguing for the past couple of decades on other issues.

Now we are supposed to ignore Pediatricians, empirical data, scientific studies... and listen to politicians and teachers unions instead.

Perhaps if liberals (such as yourself) just admitted that the science is not on your side, but that you want to follow politics... I could respect it. I wouldn't agree, but I would at least respect it.

Under pressure, CDC started reporting that data with 3 week lag.

So HHS took over data reporting from CDC.

numbers don't lie, but liars can count -

ORLANDO, Fla. - A person who died in a motorcycle accident was added to Florida’s COVID-19 death count, according to a state health official.

FOX 35 News found this out after asking Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino whether two coronavirus victims who were in their 20s had any underlying conditions. One of his answers surprised us.

“The first one didn’t have any. He died in a motorcycle accident,” Pino said.

Dr. Pino was asked if the man’s data was removed.

“I don’t think so. I have to double-check,” Pino said. “We were arguing, discussing, or trying to argue with the state. Not because of the numbers -- it’s 100…it doesn’t make any difference if it's 99 -- but the fact that the individual didn’t die from COVID-19…died in the crash. But you could actually argue that it could have been the COVID-19 that caused him to crash. I don’t know the conclusion of that one.”

There are still two people in their 20s on Orange County’s data list for coronavirus deaths.

Defense secretary effectively bans Confederate flags from military bases while rejecting ‘divisive symbols’
July 17, 10:19 a.m. CDT

Defense Secretary Mark T. Esper effectively banned the display of the Confederate battle flag on U.S. military installations on Friday, saying in a memo that the “flags we fly must accord with the military imperatives of good order and discipline, treating all our people with dignity and respect, and rejecting divisive symbols.”

The memo does not explicitly mention Confederate banners, but states that the American flag is the “principal flag we are authorized and encouraged to display.”

“Flags are powerful symbols, particularly in the military community for whom flags embody common mission, common histories, and the special, timeless bond of warriors,” Esper wrote in his memo, obtained by The Washington Post. “As Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens, a veteran of the Second World War, once wrote about the United States flag: 'It is a symbol of freedom, of equal opportunity, of religious tolerance, and of good will for other peoples who share our aspirations.”

The decision comes amid a nationwide conversation about race and racism that was spawned in May by the killing of a black man, George Floyd, in police custody. But the discussion in the Pentagon began before that, after the Marine Corps commandant, Gen. David Berger, announced in April that he was banning the public display of the Confederate battle flag from Marine bases.

Esper said in his memo that in addition to the American flag, several other flags are authorized, including those of U.S. states, territories and the District of Columbia, military services, general officers, Senate-confirmed presidential appointees, the POW/MIA flag, U.S. allies and partners, and organizations like NATO in which the United States is a member.

Confederate flags are absent from that list.

England is figuring out it’s bullshit as well

Matt Hancock has called for an urgent review into England’s coronavirus death toll, having only just realised that anyone who has ever tested positive counts in Covid statistics, regardless of the cause of their death.

In contrast to Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, where daily deaths are often zero, daily Covid deaths in England remain high, and are falling slowly. Yesterday 66 were recorded.

Now, statisticians have analysed Public Health England (PHE)’s methodology and found that at least some of this is because of a counting method that means that even if someone is run over and killed, if they previously tested positive for Covid they would add to the statistics.

“No one with Covid in England is allowed to ever recover from their illness,”

From yesterday:
Despite Trump's Pressure, Most Americans Think It Is Unsafe to Reopen Schools: Reuters/Ipsos Poll

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Only one in four Americans think it is safe for public schools to reopen this fall as U.S. coronavirus cases climb, and four in 10 parents said they would likely keep their children home if classes resume, a new Reuters/Ipsos opinion poll shows.

Clear Majority Think Schools Reopenings This Fall Would Be ‘Risky’

The July 14-15 national online poll was conducted as the country's 13,000 school districts grapple with how to safely resume instruction after closing in the spring as infections spread. The results suggest President Donald Trump’s demand to fully reopen schools is at odds with how most Americans feel.

Just 26% of American adults said they thought it was safe for schools in their community to bring students back. Another 55% felt they were not safe, and 19% were not sure.

The response was split along party lines: Half of Republicans said they thought schools were safe, compared with only one in 10 Democrats.

Among respondents with school-age children, about four in 10 said it was unlikely that they would send them to school if in-person teaching resumes. Another five in 10 said they would send their kids to school, and the rest said they were unsure.

"I’ve had a migraine every day for the past month, just with the stress and fear of all of this," said Tameka Dumas, 47, a mother of two from Grenada, Mississippi.

Dumas will keep her 16-year-old son home to take online classes when his school reopens in August, deciding that it is better to protect him from a virus that already has infected her uncle and killed one of her friends.

"I told him that I hate to keep him from his friends, but at the rate of infection, it’s just for the best," she said.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

Trump recently has made reopening public schools a focus of his re-election campaign, in part to court suburban voters, especially women, who are increasingly unhappy with him.

The Republican president has said school districts must offer a full schedule of classes, and he threatened to cut funding from schools that do not follow through.

"Medical and education experts agree that children learn best through in-person education, and it’s also true that parents need the certainty of schools reopening so they can return to work," Trump campaign spokesman Tim Murtaugh said. "We must reopen schools and the economy and do it safely."

The poll found that only three in 10 white women, including only two in 10 suburban white women, felt schools are safe to reopen. More than eight out of 10 white women said they are still concerned about the spread of the coronavirus, which has claimed more than 138,000 lives in the United States and has continued a rapid spread throughout much of the country.

White women are key for Trump's re-election bid. He won that demographic by 13 percentage points in the 2016 election, and they are also one of the most likely subgroups to vote.

Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden, who for months has led Trump in national polls, including a 10-point advantage among registered voters in the latest Reuters/Ipsos poll, has called for a more cautious approach to re-opening schools.

HEEDING THE EXPERTS
Away from the campaign trail, Americans say they are largely relying on guidance from public health experts on when and how schools should open, the Reuters/Ipsos survey found.

Asked who should determine when schools reopen in their community, 40% said they would leave the decision to public health experts, while 17% said it should be up to the school districts and 13% said their state’s governor should decide. Only 5% said they would leave it to the federal government.

When classes resume, only 20% said students should return for the full school calendar. Another 37% felt students should begin an online-only curriculum, and 43% said students should follow a hybrid schedule that includes some time in the classroom and some instruction online....

The Reuters/Ipsos poll was conducted online, in English, throughout the United States. It gathered responses from 1,114 American adults and has a credibility interval, a measure of precision, of three percentage points.

Facts not Emotions
"The National Association of Home Builders’ survey showed Thursday that interest in buying single-family homes has soared in the wake of lockdowns, working from home, urban riots and looting, school closings, a national movement to defund police, and a rise in violent crime in many cities. Living in an apartment in a city center strikes many families as less attractive than it has in recent years."

While the president frequently ties his allegations of fraud to Democrats, on Thursday, White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany did not indicate that the president was aware a member of his own party, Rep. Steve Watkins of Kansas, is facing new criminal charges in a voter fraud case. Watkins was endorsed by Trump in 2018 and was a speaker at a Trump rally in the lead up to the midterm election.

Noting that the president "does have very real concerns about voter fraud," McEnany proceeded to give "information" that aimed to support those concerns. Her list included "about 1% of absentee ballots nationwide" having been "thrown out" in 2016; a Postal Service truck "that may have been carrying mail-in ballots" having caught fire; and an incident in which Republicans received Democratic ballots in New Jersey. She added that the ballots "had been voided and then reissued."

Mary K Kamrath Probably. Donald may also meet some of the criteria for dependent personality disorder, the hallmarks of which include an inability to make decisions or take responsibility, discomfort with being alone, and going to excessive lengths to obtain support from others. Are there other factors that should be considered? Absolutely. He may have a long undiagnosed learning disability that for decades has interfered with his ability to process information. Also, he is alleged to drink upward of twelve Diet Cokes a day and sleep very little. Does he suffer from a substance- (in this case caffeine-) induced sleep disorder? He has a horrible diet and does not exercise, which may contribute to or exacerbate his other possible disorders. The fact is, Donald’s pathologies are so complex and his behaviors so often inexplicable that coming up with an accurate and comprehensive diagnosis would require a full battery of psychological and neuropsychological tests that he’ll never sit for. At this point, we can’t evaluate his day-to-day functioning because he is, in the West Wing, essentially institutionalized. Donald has been institutionalized for most of his adult life, so there is no way to know how he would thrive, or even survive, on his own in the real world.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Just after midnight March 13, three Louisville police officers fired more than 20 bullets into Breonna Taylor's apartment, striking her five times.

But she didn't die — not right away.

For at least five minutes, she struggled, coughing for breath, according to her boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, who told investigators she was alive as he called her mom and yelled for help.

"(Police are) yelling like, 'Come out, come out,' and I'm on the phone with her (mom). I'm still yelling help because she's over here coughing and, like, I'm just freaking out," Walker said in a recorded police interview 3 hours after the shooting.

The Jefferson County coroner has disputed that account, telling the New York Times that Taylor likely died within a minute of being shot and couldn't have been saved.

The 2/2017 outlandish NYT story that the Trump team had "repeated contacts with senior Russian intelligence officials" was a transparently dishonest attempt to fuel the Russiagate narrative in its early stages (https://twitter.com/aaronjmate/status/1120086029224964096?s=20).

Now the FBI's own docs confirm it:
Techno Fog
@Techno_Fog
New docs - 2/2017 Peter Strzok notes on NYT Trump/Russia reporting.

NYT claimed that Trump campaign had repeated contacts w/ senior Russian intelligence officials before election.

Strzok: "misleading and inaccurate... no evidence [of this]."

Full doc:
https://scribd.com/document/469507412/Annotated-New-York-Times-Article
---
NYT: Manafort was on the calls w/ the Russian intelligence officials.

FBI: "We are unaware of any calls with any Russian govt official in which Manafort was a party."
---
NYT: Roger Stone was part of the FBI's inquiry into Russian ties.

FBI: "We have not investigated Roger Stone"
---
Fascinating to see real-time FBI assessment of inaccurate reporting.

Comey also disputed the story in June 2017.

Despite Comey denial, NYT stood by their sources: the "current and former" US officials leaking false info.
---
THREAD: https://twitter.com/Techno_Fog/status/1284204488073633792

So either the NYT was lying or they were being fed false intelligence... Either way they should come clean or we should assume they are the FAKE NEWS.

NYT: Let’s Face It — The Mail-In State Primary Was A Disaster

More than three weeks after the New York primaries, election officials have not yet counted an untold number of mail-in absentee ballots, leaving numerous closely watched races unresolved, including three key Democratic congressional contests.

The absentee ballot count — greatly inflated this year because the state expanded the vote-by-mail option because of the coronavirus pandemic — has been painstakingly slow, and hard to track, with no running account of the vote totals available.

In some cases, the tiny number of ballots counted has bordered on the absurd: In the 12th Congressional District, where Representative Carolyn B. Maloney is fighting for her political life against her challenger, Suraj Patel, only 800 of some 65,000 absentee ballots had been tabulated as of Wednesday, according to Mr. Patel, though thousands had been disqualified. …

The delays in New York’s primaries raise huge concerns about how the state will handle the general election in November, and may offer a cautionary note for other states as they weigh whether to embrace, and how to implement, a vote-by-mail system because of the pandemic.

maybe we will have 2020 election results in 2024 with mail-in voting. Ridiculously slow and fraud prone. And nobody is going to believe the results either way if they continue on this path...

Lindsey Graham
@LindseyGrahamSC

It is clear to me that the memo regarding the FBI interview of the primary sub-source in January 2017 should have required the system to stop and reevaluate the case against Mr. Page.

Most importantly after this interview of the sub-source and the subsequent memo detailing the contents of the interview, it was a miscarriage of justice for the FBI and the Department of Justice to continue to seek a FISA warrant against Carter Page in April and June of 2017.

The dossier was a critical document to justify a FISA warrant against Mr. Page and this DOJ memo clearly indicates that the reliability of the dossier was completely destroyed after the interview with the primary sub-source in January 2017.

Those who knew or should have known of this development and continued to pursue a FISA warrant against Mr. Page anyway are in deep legal jeopardy in my view

Secondly, the comments of Peter Strzok regarding the February 14 New York Times article are devastating in that they are an admission that there was no reliable evidence that anyone from the Trump Campaign was working with Russian Intelligence Agencies in any form.

The statements by Mr. Strzok question the entire premise of the FBI’s investigation of the Trump Campaign and make it even more outrageous that the Mueller team continued this investigation for almost two and a half years.
Moreover, the statements by Strzok raise troubling questions as to whether the FBI was impermissibly unmasking and analyzing intelligence gathered on U.S. persons.

These documents, which I have long sought, tell a damning story for anyone who’s interested in trying to find the truth behind the corrupt nature of the FBI’s investigation into the Trump campaign in 2016 and beyond.

Trump Fact Checked In Real Time

President Trump interrupted a Fox News interview so his staff could show proof that Joe Biden had proposed defunding the police.

Fox host Chris Wallace later told his audience that Trump “couldn’t find any indication, because there isn’t any, that Joe Biden has sought to defund and abolish the police.”
____________

Correct. Trump sent some of his staff off to find the document that would support his claim, but when they brought it, he searched and searched but couldn't find it, because, as Wallace says, "there isn't any" such proposal in any of Biden's proposals.

Judiciary Committee Releases Declassified Documents that Substantially Undercut Steele Dossier, Page FISA Warrants
WASHINGTON – Today, as part of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s ongoing investigation into the Crossfire Hurricane investigation and related FISA abuses, Chairman Lindsey Graham (R- South Carolina) released two recently declassified documents that significantly undercut the reliability of the Steele dossier and the accuracy and reliability of many of the factual assertions in the Carter Page FISA applications.

“I’m very pleased the investigation in the Senate Judiciary Committee has been able to secure the declassification of these important documents,” said Chairman Graham. “I want to thank Attorney General Barr for releasing these documents and allowing the American People to judge for themselves.

“What have we learned from the release of these two documents by the Department of Justice? Number one, it is clear to me that the memo regarding the FBI interview of the primary sub-source in January 2017 should have required the system to stop and reevaluate the case against Mr. Page.

“Most importantly after this interview of the sub-source and the subsequent memo detailing the contents of the interview, it was a miscarriage of justice for the FBI and the Department of Justice to continue to seek a FISA warrant against Carter Page in April and June of 2017.

Trump has a secret police presence

Federal customs officials said Friday that their agents had detained a demonstrator in Portland, Ore., in a widely seen video circulating online that showed two men in apparent military garb taking a young man wearing all black into custody, defending the apprehension by describing the man as being suspected of attacking federal agents and property.

This defense came as federal authorities were under criticism for their tactics from elected officials, civil-rights activists and demonstrators, including one in Portland who described being “terrified” during a similar encounter.

In a statement on Friday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection said its agents had taken the action in the video and that they “had information indicating the person in the video was suspected of assaults against federal agents or destruction of federal property.”

They were in unmarked cars and no identification badges
