One of the many election problems with Covid lock downs

Politico: GOP voter registrations outpace Dems
Late last month, the Democratic data firm TargetSmart found that while new voter registrations had plummeted amid the coronavirus pandemic, those who were registering in competitive states tended to be whiter, older and less Democratic than before.

When he saw the numbers, Ben Wessel, executive director of NextGen America, said he "got nervous," and other Democratic-leaning groups felt the same.
The report seemed to confirm what state elections officials and voter registration groups had been seeing in the field for weeks: Neither Democrats nor Republicans had been registering many voters during the pandemic. But Democrats were suffering disproportionately from the slowdown.

So how many of us have been stopped in previous election years on the street by some teenager environmentalist asking us to register to vote? How many of us have been stopped on the street by some teenage pro-choicer asking us to register to vote?

I am stopped in downtown St Paul an average of once or twice every time I leave the building during an election year. Generally by someone associated with Greenpeace, Planned Parenthood, or some other liberal advocacy group. Don't recall the last time (or if I ever was) stopped on the street by a conservative asking me to register.

The reality is that Democrats are much more tied to and engaged in this sort of personal attempts to register people, either standing on pedestrian busy street corners or going door to door. This won't happen and will severely dampen new voter registration for 2020.

You know what else will suffer? The new California laws regarding ballot harvesting, not to mention the illegal ballot harvesting that is known to be done by liberals in pretty much all fifty states. No more liberal activists showing up a nursing home and asking to "help" people fill out their ballots and make sure they get turned in. No more packing a bunch of people into buses and bringing them down to vote.

So this is a new election situation in 2020. While some are attempting to make it easier to vote by mail, nobody knows how much that will help (if much at all).  You are still looking at a two step process for many, having to first register, then vote in a separate filing. So many things to go wrong, and so many people who will not get it done. The fact is that if we are still in a Covid scare come November it will be harder to vote pretty much in all 50 states, and for the first time in a long time, we could actually see a decrease in turnout.

More to the point, those most fearful and less likely to brave the lines are lining up to be the timid and scared liberals. Conservatives (not liberals) are the ones wanting to go out in public, not caring much about social distancing or wearing masks. It won't be a hassle or a problem for them to go to the polls on election day.

"On October 7, 2016, after WikiLeaks released its first set of then-Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta's emails, prosecutors say Stone received a text message from 'an associate of the high-ranking Trump campaign official' that said 'well done,' signaling that the Trump campaign was looped in on Stone's quest for dirt on Democrats.
"The associate and the high-ranking campaign official are not named in the complaint, though the indictment describes how Stone told a reporter that what Assange had in the unreleased emails was good for the Trump campaign. Stone responded at the time, 'I'd tell [the high-ranking Trump Campaign official] but he doesn't call me back'."
"An email matching that wording that was published by The New York Times shows that the official Stone referred to was Steve Bannon.
"After the October 7 releases, Stone boasted to 'senior Trump Campaign officials' that he had correctly predicted the data dump, prosecutors say."
Stone repeatedly insisted publicly, and in testimony to Congress, that he had not attempted to contact to WikiLeaks and had not tried to serve as any sort of intermediary between the Trump campaign and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange during the release of the emails, which were aimed at harming Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign.
Then there is the fact that Stone was convicted of attempting to tamper with a witness -- radio talk show host Randy Credico -- in the Mueller investigation, urging Credico, who Stone claimed was his backchannel to WikiLeaks, to lie to congressional investigators. Stone also threatened Credico if he did not, suggesting he would take Credico's therapy dog -- Bianca -- and texting Credico "prepare to die [expletive]

These are not small crimes. Let's be very clear what Stone did: He lied to Congress about his efforts to find out what WikiLeaks had in terms of hacked emails that were designed to damage Clinton. He also threatened someone -- with death -- unless that person lied to Congress about the nature of his role in the backchanneling of WikiLeaks information.

It not a politically motivated investigation into the Wikileaks and perhaps Russian involvement.

Stone said that he has something else including the President

AUSTIN — Former Vice President Joe Biden has built a five-point lead over President Donald Trump in Texas as unease over Trump’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic mounts, a new Dallas Morning News/University of Texas at Tyler poll has found.

Biden had 46% support to Trump’s 41%. If the general election were held today, the outcome could depend on the 14% of voters who were undecided or named someone else.

Biden’s lead, which comes after he and Trump were tied 43%-43% in The News and UT-Tyler’s April survey, is significant, if barely: The poll, conducted June 29 through July 7, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.24 percentage points.

The story behind Biden’s slight bulge is the softening of the Republican incumbent’s support among independents and “weak partisans,” said Kenneth Bryant Jr., a UT-Tyler political scientist who helped design the poll.

“While President Trump has and still enjoys near universal approval from Republicans, and overwhelming disfavor from Democrats, he has lost considerable ground among the folks in the middle, who may ultimately decide who wins Texas in November,” Bryant said.

well alky, i always knew that you are a fucking bigot, but it's nice that you lift the veil every now and then to confirm what we already know.

being a minority, a member of a certain "ethnic group" or low income is not an impediment to either registering to vote or voting itself.

if a section 8 housing dweller on welfare with an EBT card and a bus pass can make it to their local library they can go here:

https://www.usa.gov/register-to-vote

all that's required is the ambition to get it done.

and ambition is freely available to everyone. always has been.

the soft bigotry of low expectations is endemic among the left, and has been since LBJ devised his plan to "have those ni@@ers voting democrat for the next 200 years."

Zogby: Biden’s ‘dismal’ support from blacks threatens his election

Former Vice President Joe Biden’s “dismal” support from black voters, now confirmed in two polls, is likely to force his campaign to choose a black woman as his running mate to shore up the key group, according to a Democratic pollster.

In the latest John Zogby Strategies and EMI Research Solutions poll, Biden has the support of 77% of black voters while 14% back President Trump.

Bad news for Biden. Just a wild guess, but refund the police may be backfiring with the black community.

If you want to understand the rhetorical roots of Trump's Independence Day speech at Mount Rushmore, go back and watch Tucker Carlson's monologues for the past six weeks.

Between the lines: Trump — or rather his speechwriter Stephen Miller — framed the president's opposition to the Black Lives Matter protest movement using the same imagery Carlson has been laying out night after night on Fox.

Trump vs. Carlson: Below are grabs from Carlson monologues over the past month, followed by quotes from Trump's July 3 speech.

Carlson: "For more than a month, mobs of violent crazy people have roamed this country, terrorizing citizens and destroying things."
Trump: "Angry mobs are trying to tear down statues of our Founders, deface our most sacred memorials, and unleash a wave of violent crime in our cities."
Carlson: "The education cartel, enforced on your children, enforces their demands."
Trump: "In our schools, our newsrooms, even our corporate boardrooms, there is a new far-left fascism that demands absolute allegiance."
Carlson: "Few people ever could have imagined that Teddy Roosevelt would be canceled. Roosevelt was the most popular president in American history."
Trump: "One of their political weapons is 'Cancel Culture.'" And in a separate part of the speech, "Theodore Roosevelt exemplified the unbridled confidence of our national culture and identity. ... The American people will never relinquish the bold, beautiful, and untamed spirit of Theodore Roosevelt."
Carlson: "For weeks we've asked, 'Who will stand up for this country?' And the answer we're learning is Americans. Americans will. It's up to them. Small groups of citizens are beginning to come forward to defend their laws, defend their history and their culture."
Trump: "They think the American people are weak and soft and submissive. But no, the American people are strong and proud, and they will not allow our country, and all of its values, history, and culture, to be taken from them."
Carlson: "The Cultural Revolution has come to the West."
Trump: "Make no mistake: This left-wing cultural revolution is designed to overthrow the American Revolution."
Why it matters: Trump's Independence Day speech lays a marker for how he's going to campaign through to November, according to campaign advisers. Perhaps no TV host has ever had such an influential role — whether Trump's team admits it or not — in defining a president's re-election message.

Flashback: Trump has told people in recent days that he regrets following some of son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner's political advice — including supporting criminal justice reform — and will stick closer to his own instincts, three people with direct knowledge of the president's thinking tell Axios.
Carlson has become cable news' most-watched host ever, according to Nielsen data. He's also its most controversial. His show has lost numerous major advertisers in the wake of boycotts over his rhetoric about the Black Lives Matter movement.

"This may be a lot of things, this moment we are living through," Carlson said last month of the protests. "But it is definitely not about Black lives, and remember that when they come for you. And at this rate, they will."
At the time, Fox News clarified that Carlson's comments were referencing Democratic leaders.
The bottom line: If you want to know what Trump's going to say next, keep an eye on Carlson's monologues.

A few questions:

If a liberal tests positive for TDS are they required to quarantine for 2-3 weeks? Is their sick leave covered, paid?

• If that liberal has 5 TDS seizures a day lasting 30 minutes each, for a total of 150 minutes, do they then need to stay home and quarantine for 14 days?

• What if someone who lives in the same house as a liberal tests positive for TDS? Does that liberal now need to take 14 days off from Burning, Looting and Murder to quarantine? Is that time off covered? Welfare paid?

• Where is the district going to find a substitute liberal who will work in a protest full of exposed, possibly infected other liberals for substitute pay?

• Liberals protest in multiple cities. What if they are diagnosed with TDS? Do all the liberals in each city now have to quarantine and get tested? Who is going to pay for that?

I didn't cheat on my SAT test.

back when you COULD HAVE taken the SAT it wasn't scored as a percentile, alky.

the max score for verbal was 800. the max score for math was 800.

so you would have us believe your combined score was 1492. (800 + 800 = 1600 X .92 = 1492. a "95% score" would have given you a 1520.)

and btw alky, outside of a stand-in there's really no way to cheat on the SAT.

does anyone else want to join me in calling bullshit on this claim?

oh, and alky, you know what else is a lie? that Trump had a stand-in take his SAT for him to get into Penn.

you know why?

trump didn't need an SAT to get into Penn. his Fordham transcript was sufficient because he TRANSFERRED.

Add to list
United Airlines announced plans to lay off more than one-third of its 95,000 workers. Brooks Brothers, which first opened for business in 1818, filed for bankruptcy. And Bed Bath and Beyond said it will close 200 stores.
Welcome to the recovery.
If there were still hopes of a “V-shaped” comeback from the novel coronavirus shutdown, this past week should have put an end to them. The pandemic shock, which economists once assumed would be only a temporary business interruption, appears instead to be settling into a traditional, self-perpetuating recession.
When states and cities began closing most businesses in March, the idea was to smother the virus and buy time for the medical system to adapt. Jared Kushner, the president’s son-in-law and a senior White House adviser, spoke of hopes “that by July the country’s really rocking again.”
Trump touts June jobs report

President Trump on July 2 said the June employment data “proves that our economy is roaring back” as coronavirus cases continued to rise in the United States. (The Washington Post)
But without a uniform federal strategy, many governors rushed to reopen their economies before bringing the virus under control. Now states such as Florida, California, Texas and Arizona are setting daily records for coronavirus cases and more than 70 percent of the country has either paused or reversed reopening plans, according to Goldman Sachs.

After two surprisingly strong months, the economy could begin shedding jobs again this month and in August, Morgan Stanley warned Friday. Many small businesses that received forgivable government loans have exhausted their funds while some larger companies are starting to thin their payrolls in preparation for a longer-than-expected downturn.
Fresh labor market weakness would represent a profound disappointment for millions of American workers and President Trump, who is eager to highlight economic progress with only a few months remaining before the November election.
“ ‘Stalling’ is the word I’m using,” said Jim O’Sullivan, chief U.S. macro strategist for TD Securities. “But the risk there is that the numbers start turning negative again.”
Reopening efforts stall in Houston as covid-19 cases spike
Texactivity “is starting to level off.” Thomas Barkin, who heads the Richmond Fed, cited “air pockets” in new business orders.

At the White House on Friday, however, the president insisted that his plans were on track.
“I created the greatest economy we’ve ever had. And now we’re creating it again,” he said before leaving for Florida.
A day earlier, he told a group of Hispanic leaders he had launched “the fastest economic comeback in history.”
The economy did regain a total of 7.5 million jobs in May and June, faster than many economists anticipated. But that was just one-third of the number lost to the pandemic.
In a worrisome sign, more than two months after states like Georgia lifted their shelter-in-place orders, layoffs are spreading beyond companies that provide services requiring direct human contact. As disruption from the pandemic lingers, this could mean that the job loss is starting to feed on itself in a classic recessionary spiral, economists said.
