Obviously one of the most controversial and idiotically emotional arguments over Covid has been whether or not to use hydroxychloroquine. As Americans, we had embraced it during our past Covid outbreaks, we had embraced it fairly early in the stages of our current Covid, and then it became political and all hell broke loose.
While there have been a million and one different studies, the most consistent thing we know about the drug is that it appears to work when provided very early in the process, and that most every country that has used it to this degree has had success.
Countries that used hydroxychloroquine as an early means of mitigation vs those who didn't |
On the flip side, countries more worried about their politics than their national health (such as the United States and European countries) have gone back and forth in regards to hydroxychloroquine, and most have (at one point in time) created some sort of ban on a drug that has proven to be safe for use with everyone, including pregnant and nursing women. More to the point, at one point WHO actually came out against the drug, only to step back later and change their mind
Chart by John Hopkins of what happened when the Swiss temporarily suspended the use of hydroxychloroquine |
What the drug doesn't do is apparently help much once a patient has been hospitalized. These are the studies that the American media has focused on, while ignoring those that suggest the the drug has been successfully used when given early on. But this runs counter to our own medical guidance by our own experts who demand that "isolation" is more important than any sort of treatment.
However, the NIH promoted a much different strategy for the United States. The “Fauci Strategy” was to keep early infected patients quarantined at home without treatment until they developed a shortness of breath and had to be admitted to a hospital. Then they would they be given hydroxychloroquine. The Food and Drug Administration cluelessly agreed to this doctrine and it stated in its hydroxychloroquine Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) that “hospitalized patients were likely to have a greater prospect of benefit (compared to ambulatory patients with mild illness).”
The reality is that there is little overall tangible empirical evidence to suggest that the countries using hydroxychloroquine are wrong to be doing so, but an incredible amount of empirical evidence that they are correct to do so. Just that that evidence isn't coming from the United States and we have been largely manipulated and gas-lighted by an anti-Trump American media who provide us with what they want us to know.
There are now 53 studies that show positive results of hydroxychloroquine in COVID infections. There are 14 global studies that show neutral or negative results -- and 10 of them were of patients in very late stages of COVID-19, where no antiviral drug can be expected to have much effect. Of the remaining four studies, two come from the same University of Minnesota author. The other two are from the faulty Brazil paper, which should be retracted, and the fake Lancet paper, which was.
So how many of those 53 studies have we heard about? Most all of them have been attacked, derided, misinterpreted, or just outright ignored by our American media... all the while we continue to have one of the highest rates of deaths in the entire world.
When this is all said and done, the determination will no doubt be that social distancing, lock down, mask wearing, and other politically woke popular responses will be shown objectively and statistically to have helped very little. Studies are already coming out showing this has been the case across the entire globe. What happens if the evidence is irrefutable that early use of hydroxychloroquine was actually the thing that separated successful from unsuccessful countries in their response to Covid?
Will anyone actually say they were sorry?

The whole point of HCQ is to give it on an outpatient basis to prevent hospitalization. And instead of designing double blind "randomized" test to actually determine HCQ's effectiveness they are actually design for failure.
For example in one "randomized" double blind study none of the participants were over the age of 50 and none of them had a medical complications that put them in the at risk category. So of course taking HCQ vs a placebo made no significant difference in healthy individuals who would have mild or no symptoms whatsoever and then they declared HCQ was a failure.
It's political BS.

Treatment with hydroxychloroquine cut the death rate significantly in sick patients hospitalized with COVID-19 – and without heart-related side-effects, according to a new study published by Henry Ford Health System.
In a large-scale retrospective analysis of 2,541 patients hospitalized between March 10 and May 2, 2020 across the system’s six hospitals, the study found 13% of those treated with hydroxychloroquine alone died compared to 26.4% not treated with hydroxychloroquine. None of the patients had documented serious heart abnormalities; however, patients were monitored for a heart condition routinely pointed to as a reason to avoid the drug as a treatment for COVID-19.
The study was published today in the International Journal of Infectious Diseases, the peer-reviewed, open-access online publication of the International Society of Infectious Diseases (ISID.org).

You people don't understand how science works
When it first appeared in January, the President said that it was not a big deal and later on he said that it is a "Democratic hoax "
When it first appeared, we didn't know much about it. The scientists and medical researchers studied the results of the infections and the side effects include lung problems.
The original investigation may have been incorrect, but it was not a partisan comment on the number of potential infections and death numbers.
As the time goes on, they figured out how to handle it and design ways to protect and maintain health for their patients
The State of New York was the first state to get so many cases that it overwhelmed the hospital and unfortunately the senior living community, got infected and died, because older people are more vulnerable.
They shutdown the state, and since then the infection rates stabilized and eventually declined.
But then the President, in order to get reelected, he encouraged governors in red states to open up the economy, including bars and restaurants, which led to an increase in inflation and deaths
On Sunday morning
In an interview on "Meet the Press," Giroir, the assistant secretary of health and human services for health, did not specifically mention the president, but he it made clear that the scientific consensus is that the drug does not help treat the disease.

Every single, non partisan experts say that masks and social distancing is very effective in reducing the risk of infection by the COVID-45 virus
Well first of all... there is no such thing as "non partisan experts" anymore, Roger. Even suggesting as much is "dumb".
Secondly, there are already studies and statistical analysis being gathered and studied that are showing that the impact of the virus is almost entirely controlled by the density of the population and factors beyond the control of shut downs, lock downs, etc...
Already... with the simple data we have... we can already point to many states and many countries that did not lock down that have done much better than other states and other countries that did.
eg: There isn't a reasonable explanation as to why Michigan (which locked everything down tight as a drum) has nearly double the amount of deaths as Ohio (that did not lock everything down) and they are right next to each other with almost identical demographic and geographic breakdowns.
Montana (which locked everything down) is now the biggest problem in that area while Wyoming and others are not struggling nearly as much.
Some people are now prone to believe that when everything is said and done and we go through second (or even third) waves, that places like Sweden will appear justified that their 5800 deaths was very acceptable in comparison to everyone else who destroyed their economies in the process of only performing marginally better.
There's this:
Doctors Rate Hydroxychloroquine Most Effective Therapy for Coronavirus Infection
A global survey found that anti-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine was the most highly-rated treatment against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
This new survey completed by Sermo on March 27, 2020, reported 6,227 physicians in 30 countries found that 37 percent of those treating COVID-19 patients rated hydroxychloroquine as the “most effective therapy” from a list of 15 options.
Experts in Sweden have been saying that others should not do what they did because their number of deaths were unnecessarily higher than those in other Scandinavian countries.
What do doctors know about Covid Commonsense?
they are not Democrats or the US media.

They all have a higher death rate than Sweden.
and I suspect that before all is said and done, that at least a few more states might end up with a higher death rate as well... considering their entire country had 331 and 1 death yesterday (only a few American states had fewer).

Delusional Donald
WASHINGTON (AP) — U.S. officials said Wednesday there is no indication the massive explosion in Lebanon that killed at least 100 people was an attack, contradicting President Donald Trump who said American generals told him it was likely caused by a bomb.
The officials, speaking only on condition of anonymity to discuss internal assessments, said that while it was not out of the realm of possibility that the blast was deliberately caused, the belief so far was that it was most likely an accident.
From the outset, U.S. officials have said that they did not know the cause of the initial fire and explosions that set off the larger blast. But they say they do believe the reports out of Lebanon claiming a large stockpile of ammonium nitrate left over from a seizure is what exploded.
On Tuesday, Trump said, “It looks like a terrible attack."
Trump was asked why he called it an attack and not an accident, especially since Lebanese officials said they had not determined the cause of the explosion. He told reporters at the White House: “It would seem like it based on the explosion. I met with some of our great generals and they just seem to feel that it was. This was not a — some kind of a manufacturing explosion type of a event. ... They seem to think it was an attack. It was a bomb of some kind, yes.”
The Obama administration did not defund standard testing.

Such as...
I would like a list of things that Obama did?
After all 60 fucking million Americans caught the disease
60 million
that is a six with seven zeroes behind it?
Oh and 375,000 people were hospitalized?
Did he order masks to be worn?
Did he ask people to social distance?
Did he tell Americans to stay home?
Did he suggest that non-essential businesses close?
A "flu" Pandemic is different from a Covid pandemic, since Covid is pretty much you get almost no symptoms or you are hospitalized with a good chance of death. Covid is something you mitigate to prevent death.
Swine Flu is something you mitigate to stop the spread from hitting 60 million Americans.
So what made Obama such a big hero in your eyes Reverend?
If 60 million Americans caught the flu while Trump was President and he did virtually nothing (but tell schools that they couldn't close) - you would want his head on a stick!
She said that if the Obama administration had never told Comey to investigate the Trump campaign!

“The numbers reported mark a significant departure from the roughly 1 million jobs that some economists had predicted and a sharp falloff from hiring gains reported just a month prior, with virtually no sector of the U.S. economy untouched by the new slowdown.”

Today, Wednesday, marks 90 days before the presidential election, a date in the calendar that is supposed to be of special note to the Justice Department. That’s because of two department guidelines, one a written policy that no action be influenced in any way by politics. Another, unwritten norm urges officials to defer publicly charging or taking any other overt investigative steps or disclosures that could affect a coming election.
Attorney General William Barr appears poised to trample on both. At least two developing investigations could be fodder for pre-election political machinations. The first is an apparently sprawling investigation by John Durham, the U.S. attorney in Connecticut, that began as an examination of the origins of the F.B.I. investigation into Russia’s interference in the 2016 election. The other, led by John Bash, the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas, is about the so-called unmasking of Trump associates by Obama administration officials. Mr. Barr personally unleashed both investigations and handpicked the attorneys to run them.
But Justice Department employees, in meeting their ethical and legal obligations, should be well advised not to participate in any such effort.
The genesis of the department’s admirable practice of creating a protective shell surrounding an election recognizes that unelected officials at the Justice Department should not take action that could distort an election and influence the electorate. If someone is charged immediately before an election, for instance, that person has no time to offer a defense to counter the charges. The closer the election, the greater the risk that the department is impermissibly acting based on political considerations, which is always prohibited.
He's weaponizing the Department of Justice to influence the election
https://nyti.ms/2PnlKpP
It is not mere conjecture that Mr. Barr could weaponize these investigations for political purposes. In both cases, he has already run roughshod over another related longstanding department practice. It holds that department officials should refrain from making public allegations of wrongdoing before prosecutors decide to bring charges, particularly since no charges may emanate from the investigation.
Mr. Barr and President Trump have shown no compunction in publicly discussing these investigations, suggesting wrongdoing by Democrats and deep staters. Mr. Barr promised on Fox News that “there will be public disclosure in some form” in the Durham probe. It should be no surprise that Mr. Barr has followed the lead of his boss; after all, Mr. Trump urged Ukraine to announce an investigation into Mr. Biden, an action that was at the center of his impeachment.
Not so long ago, Mr. Barr and Mr. Trump denounced Jim Comey’s negative public commentary in the 2016 election on Hillary Clinton. Indeed, the president claimed that Mr. Comey’s violation of these bedrock policies contributed to his being fired. During his nomination hearing, Mr. Barr told a Senate committee that he would adhere to these policies.
“If you are not going to indict someone, then you do not stand up there and unload negative information about the person,” he testified. “That is not the way the Department of Justice does business.” He also “completely” agreed with Rod Rosenstein when Mr. Rosenstein wrote in a memo that Mr. Comey’s transgressions during an election season were “a textbook example of what federal prosecutors and agents are taught not to do.”
Indeed, in his nomination testimony, Mr. Barr captured the risk of an attorney general acting for political purposes. Members of the incumbent party, he said, “have their hands on the levers of the law enforcement apparatus of the country, and you do not want it used against the opposing political party.”
He was correct then and is wrong now.
Nevertheless, Mr. Barr may claim that an extraordinary public justification exists for releasing a report, citing the Mueller report as precedent. But there is a very clear difference: The Mueller report was not issued in the run-up to any election.
Mr. Barr has another move to try to justify his actions. He recently told a conservative radio host that the policy on interference with an election applies only to indictments of “candidates or perhaps someone that’s sufficiently close to a candidate, that it’s essentially the same.”
That’s an invention. The policy itself refers to actions that give “an advantage or disadvantage to any candidate or political party.”
Mr. Barr himself recognizes the political effect of department actions beyond those against a candidate. In February, in response to the Justice Department inspector general’s recommendation for a clear policy to open or take actions in significant political investigations, Mr. Barr issued a directive that centralized his control over such investigations. The new Barr requirements covered investigations that “may have unintended effects on our elections” and notably included candidates, senior campaign staff members, advisers, members of official campaign advisory committees or groups, and foreign-national donors.
Take an example from the Mueller investigation. The special counsel’s office knew it could not indict Russian military intelligence officials for the 2016 hacking operation in the run-up to the 2018 midterm elections. That’s right: The office could not indict the Russians — not only political candidates or aides. Such matters were so politically fraught that such an action by the special counsel might affect the election.
A key consideration should not be lost: There’s no urgency for the department to take any overt investigative steps or make disclosures until after the election. Even if there has been criminal wrongdoing — which is by no means clear — charges can still be brought in November after the election.
What can be done if Mr. Barr seeks to take actions in service of the president’s political ambitions? There are a variety of ways for Justice Department employees in the Trump era to deal with improper requests. Employees who witness or are asked to participate in such political actions — who all swore an oath to the Constitution and must obey department policies — can refuse, report and, if necessary, resign. Other models include speaking with Congress under subpoena or resigning and then communicating directly to the public. Reputable organizations are at the ready to advise whistle-blowers about the risks and benefits of pursuing these paths.
Above all, with the election around the corner, it’s critical to ensure its integrity and that the Justice Department steer clear of political interference.

complete and utter bullshit.
if it was such a big deal "so politically fraught that such an action by the special counsel might affect the election," then rosenstein wouldn't have held a press conference and made such a big deal out of the indictments.
the honest answer is that were they serious, the indictments would've been secret and sealed, and team mueller could've ambushed these guys as they re-entered the country. by making it a big deal it scared them off and guaranteed they'd never return to the US.

To a media unrelentingly hostile to Donald Trump, this meant that the president could be portrayed as recklessly promoting the use of a “dangerous” drug. Ignoring the refutation of the VA study in its May 15 article, the Washington Post cited a Brazil study published on April 24 in which a COVID trial using chloroquine (a related but different drug than hydroxychloroquine) was stopped because 11 patients treated with it died. The reporters never mentioned another problem with that study: The Brazilian doctors were giving their patients lethal cumulative doses of the drug.

Thanks to a marked shift among Republican voters since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, just 13 percent of Americans surveyed now say they are satisfied with “the way things are going in the United States.”
A poll by Gallup released Wednesday shows that the percentage of Republicans who say they are “satisfied” with the direction the country is heading has fallen by 60 points since February, when the coronavirus pandemic began spreading rapidly across the U.S.
“The plunge in the U.S. mood, both in the past month and since February, is mostly occurring among Republicans. Republicans’ satisfaction today (20%) is about half what it was a month ago (39%) and down 60 points since February, after the Senate acquitted President Donald Trump in his impeachment trial. The current figure is easily the lowest for Republicans during the Trump administration, with their prior low being 38% in October 2017,” Gallup said on its website.
Just 7 percent of Democrats say they are satisfied with how things are going in the country, while 12 percent of independents agree with that assessment.

How about the tracing plan????
Hey fatty it’s on your phone...well maybe not yours, pederast or the liver’s clamshell phone, but that because you’re so fucking old you don’t understand tech
One of the most effective techniques that public health officials have used during outbreaks is called contact tracing. Through this approach, public health officials contact, test, treat and advise people who may have been exposed to an affected person. One new element of contact tracing is Exposure Notifications: using privacy-preserving digital technology to tell someone they may have been exposed to the virus. Exposure Notification has the specific goal of rapid notification, which is especially important to slowing the spread of the disease with a virus that can be spread asymptomatically.
To help, Apple and Google cooperated to build Exposure Notifications technology that will enable apps created by public health agencies to work more accurately, reliably and effectively across both Android phones and iPhones. Over the last several weeks, our two companies have worked together, reaching out to public health officials, scientists, privacy groups and government leaders all over the world to get their input and guidance.
Starting today, our Exposure Notifications technology is available to public health agencies on both iOS and Android. What we’ve built is not an app—rather public health agencies will incorporate the API into their own apps that people install. Our technology is designed to make these apps work better. Each user gets to decide whether or not to opt-in to Exposure Notifications; the system does not collect or use location from the device; and if a person is diagnosed with COVID-19, it is up to them whether or not to report that in the public health app. User adoption is key to success and we believe that these strong privacy protections are also the best way to encourage use of these apps.
Today, this technology is in the hands of public health agencies across the world who will take the lead and we will continue to support their efforts.

Former deputy attorney general Sally Yates told lawmakers Wednesday that neither President Barack Obama nor Vice President Joe Biden attempted to influence the FBI’s investigation of incoming national security adviser Michael Flynn during a January 2016 Oval Office meeting with top national security officials.
“During the meeting, the president, the vice president, the national security adviser did not attempt to any way to direct or influence any investigation,” Yates said during sworn testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee.
The testimony counters repeated insinuations by President Donald Trump and his top allies that Obama and Biden took a leading role in steering an investigation into the incoming administration, a charge that Trump has used to claim he was the victim of an unspecified crime he has dubbed “Obamagate.”
Trump has provided no evidence to support the claim, and Yates said under oath that Obama’s only interest in Flynn was to ensure that it was safe to share sensitive national security information with the incoming administration while the FBI was probing concerns that Flynn was attempting to undermine sanctions leveled by Obama in response to Russia’s interference in the 2016 election.
“General Flynn had essentially neutered the U.S. government’s message of deterrence,” Yates said.
Flynn pleaded guilty in 2017 to lying to the FBI about those efforts, which he made during a series of phone calls, weeks before Trump’s inauguration, with Russia’s then-U.S. ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Transcripts of those calls show that Flynn urged Russia not to escalate in response to the Obama administration sanctions, and that Kislyak later told him Vladimir Putin refrained from retaliation because of his request.

If you wonder why Bill Barr is whoring himself to serve Trump, this may be his prime motive. His net worth is about $20 million, but his law firm represents Alfa Bank, a Russian criminal cartel controlled bank. The head of Alfa is Mikahil Fridman, who has ties to Manafort, and others..Alfa Bank was furious about the Steele Dossier, which exposed their many ties to the Putin cartel. Barr also personally received dividends from Vector Group. Which means he held stock in that criminally compromised company. The Vector Group is a huge holding firm with big investments in New York real estate. Barr's firm also represented a giant holding company, the Ligget Group. (Formely the big tobacco holding operation of LIgget-Myers) The Vector Group was heavily invested in the New York real estate market and through that, the Trump Organization where a lot of Russian kleptocrats laundered their money. The president of Vector Group, Howard Lorber, introduced Trump to the Moscow real estate market in the 1990s. Why the #%@* weren't these Alfa Bank connections investigated during Barr's confirmation process?

Fact check:
Did the Obama administration ignore swine flu?
“Take a look at the swine flu. It was a disaster, 17,000 people died, the other administration ... it’s like they didn’t even know it was here.”
--President Donald Trump said this during a press briefing.
Fact check:
Swine flu killed an estimated 12,469 people in the U.S. during the Obama administration. The first case was detected on April 15, 2009. Within two weeks, according to archived CDC records, the federal government had declared a public health emergency, begun work on a vaccine, started releasing PPE from the federal stockpile and purchasing antivirals, and had rolled out a test.
__________
Cali, do feel free to show us how Trump got the 17,000 deaths number for Obama's swine flu response, assuming he was not lying. Also feel free to tell us exactly how many total swine flu deaths or other flu deaths you find for the entire eight years of Obama's administration.
I do not mind being corrected.
Then we can add it all up and see how total swine flu deaths or other flu deaths under Obama's eight years compare with total covid 19 deaths under Trump's last few months.
So is hydroxychloroquine a miracle drug, or is it worthless snake oil? Researchers have tried hard to demonstrate its value, but the largest and best-designed trials have repeatedly failed to show benefits. Still, so many studies have been published with such variable results that both sides of the political aisle can claim they have science on their side. And therein lies the problem.
An early trial by the iconoclastic microbiologist Didier Raoult reported astonishing success, but his claims crumpled under closer examination. A major U.S. study also indicated benefits, but it wasn't a randomized controlled trial; critics, including Dr. Anthony Fauci, have highlighted its serious methodological flaws. Other large high-profile trials have failed to find evidence that the drug helps. These findings were conclusive enough that the National Institutes of Health halted a clinical trial and the Food and Drug Administration revoked emergency use authorization for hydroxychloroquine.
Tragically, another major study reported that hydroxychloroquine actually harms patients, and it led researches to halt trials for safety reasons. The study appears to have been deeply flawed, and it was ultimately retracted amid allegations of serious data irregularities.
Research misconduct is rare, and a mixture of positive and negative results is common in clinical research. Rarely, if ever, does a single study prove conclusively that a treatment works. This is how science works. A new result isn't a decisive final answer; it is a pebble on the scale in favor of one hypothesis or another. But pundits cherry-pick results and mislead their audiences by telling only half the story.
And the phenomenon certainly isn't isolated to studies about coronavirus.
Last winter, shortly before the pandemic began, we finished writing a book, "Calling Bullshit: The Art of Skepticism in a Data-Driven World." In the book, we acknowledge that we inhabit a world of fake news and hyperpartisan reporting but argue that readers can make sense of their information environments with just a bit of training in critical thinking and quantitative reasoning. While BS increasingly appears clad in the trappings of numbers, statistics, data graphics and mathematical models, one doesn't need an advanced degree in science or mathematics to see through it. What one does need is a willingness to change one's mind in the presence of empirical evidence and a commitment to let science rather than partisan politics serve as the arbiter of truth.

Will Democrats accept election loss? New report says no.
Big name, bipartisan anti-Trump group war-games 2020 scenario: What if Trump loses popular vote, wins Electoral College? In other words, what if Trump wins? In run-through, Biden refuses to recognize Trump victory...
In scenario, Biden pushes Democratic governors of states Trump won to overrule results, send Biden electors to Washington. House Democrats refuse to recognize Trump electoral victory.
Then Biden makes outrageous demands in exchange for recognizing Trump victory: DC, Puerto Rico statehood, abolition of Electoral College, divide California into 5 states for more Democratic senators.
Democrats in group explained that election is just too important for Democrats to concede even clear Trump victory. Second Trump term would lead to 'decline into authoritarianism and unbridled nativism.
Therefore, according to group Democrats, Trump victory must be stopped even at cost of defying constitutional order and process. Remember that next time you hear someone alleging Trump will not accept the election results.
This would undoubtedly be treason.
The President removed a bullshit post on Facebook. He actually agreed with Scott A**hole
Facebook took down a post from President Trump's personal page of a Fox News interview in which he said that children are “almost immune” from COVID-19.
"This video includes false claims that a group of people is immune from COVID-19 which is a violation of our policies around harmful COVID misinformation,” Facebook said in a statement.
It was the first time Facebook has removed a post by the president for violating its policies on COVID-19 misinformation.
In the interview with Fox & Friends, which aired Wednesday morning, Trump said that children should return to school because they are “almost immune" or “virtually immune” from the disease.
Doctors say children can catch – and pass on – the coronavirus, which has claimed more than 150,000 lives.

It is not that the president has his head in the sand; it is that he has it fixed on his twitter account. Last week, Trump said that he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin but did not bring up the issue of bounties to kill our troops. “That was a phone call to discuss other things, and frankly that’s an issue that many people said was fake news.” The president only embraces “don’t ask, don’t tell” when it applies to Russian attacks on our elections and our troops.
No, it is not fake news. You can legitimately claim that there were dissenting views within your administration as to the “certainty” of the assessments made by, among others, U.S. Special Operations Command, CIA, and the Defense Intelligence Agency. But rather than getting to the bottom of things, you demurred.
In March, when the National Security Council finally met and drafted a menu of options, you were preoccupied with another security issue: “It was reported that Harry and Meghan, who left the Kingdom, would reside permanently in Canada. Now they have left Canada for the U.S. however, the U.S. will not pay for their security protection. They must pay!” Even when news of the bounties became public, around June 26, you were too busy tweeting. The next day, June 27, you were focused like a laser beam on this national urgency: “…Oklahoma speech had the highest Saturday television ratings in @FoxNews history.”
