The attorney who is representing Covington Catholic teen Nick Sandmann has offered to represent the Kenosha gunman Kyle Rittenhouse pro bono.

Rittenhouse, a 17-year-old Illinois resident, was arrested by police on Wednesday for first-degree murder after he allegedly fatally shot two rioters, and wounded another in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Tuesday evening.

The shooting took place around 11:45 p.m. near a car dealership as antifa/BLM rioters rampaged through town for the third night in a row following the police shooting of 29-year-old Jacob Blake.

According to independent journalists reporting from the scene, Rittenhouse was part of an armed group that was there to protect local businesses. He was also spotted cleaning graffiti the day of the shooting.

L. Lin Wood announced on Twitter Thursday morning that his colleague John Pierce had assembled a legal team to defend Rittenhouse, and they were ready to fly out to Wisconsin to meet with the family as soon as tonight. He and his team are currently trying to make contact with the Rittenhouse family.

Good, he doesn't deserve to be in jail for defending himself. On the other hand his assailants do.

After five young, Black people allegedly stole about $5,000 of clothing, sped away from police and then crashed into a teenage driver in 2018, Kenosha County Sheriff David Beth had a harsh message. Although no one was seriously injured, the maximum sentences the suspects could face were not long enough for the sheriff, the Kenosha News reported.
“These people have to be warehoused,” Beth, who is White, said at a news conference. The three men involved in the crime should be removed from society so that they could not father children, he suggested, adding that all five suspects, whose ages ranged from 16 to 23, should go to prison for life.
“We put them away for the rest of their lives so the rest of us can be better,” Beth said.
Although Beth swiftly apologized, his inflammatory comments resurfaced on Thursday as the American Civil Liberties Union of Wisconsin called for his resignation. The group also charged that his officers offered support to armed militias at a Tuesday protest in Kenosha, before a 17-year-old allegedly shot and killed two protesters.

And republicans give another round of applause to the killing of people on the street by white vigilantes!!!! What america needs are more armed 17 year kids protecting property!!!!!

So far, if I'm not mistaken, impeachment has been mentioned more at the RNC than at the DNC. A sign that the politics of impeachment did not go as the Democrats planned.

Jobless Americans say they won’t forget that Congress let benefits lapse
Millions of desperate Americans, some facing evictions or having trouble paying bills, are livid that Congress left them in the lurch when the $600-a-week benefit expired.

Trump’s Convention Was ‘Clearly Illegal’
August 28, 2020 at 6:34 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

“The South Lawn speech was the final demolition of the boundaries between governance and campaigning in a week full of such eroding,” the New York Times reports.

Playbook: “It’s really shocking that the president used America’s monuments — Fort McHenry, the Washington Monument and the White House — for nakedly partisan political purposes. It’s clearly illegal.”

Trump’s Speech Widely Panned
August 28, 2020 at 6:17 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 53 Comments

The Washington Post called President Trump’s acceptance speech “a tidal wave of tall tales, false claims and revisionist history.”

Politico: “It wasn’t a terribly effective address. The speech lacked structure and thematic discipline. The president swerved between topics, some of which felt beneath the occasion, and appeared so drained by the marathon effort that he failed to punch through what should have been the most impactful moments.”

CNN: “His delivery — particularly in the first 30 minutes or so of this way-too-long speech — was without emotion and decidedly flat.”

Trump Pretends Pandemic Is Over
August 28, 2020 at 6:09 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 18 Comments

Washington Post: “A pandemic is raging, preventing Americans from traveling freely, shuttering schools and keeping businesses closed. But not at Trump’s White House. The perfectly manicured lawn was filled with little white chairs that were spaced inches apart and most of the 1,500 or so people in attendance were maskless.”

“Cabinet members, Trump family members, supporters and a beatific Vice President Pence were all nestled up next to one another. It wasn’t so much a cult of denial, but a cult of personality.”

Playbook: “His election pitch is: Pretend this calamity never happened. Transport yourself to six months ago. And, if you looked at the White House lawn Thursday night and saw the maskless masses, it’s clear that the GOP wants to pretend that this public-health nightmare is over.”

CNN: “Combined with the repeated references to the coronavirus pandemic in the past tense, the images projected a post-pandemic world, even as deaths mount.”

Trump Casts Election as Crusade for Law and Order
August 28, 2020 at 6:07 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 26 Comments

“President Trump accepted the Republican Party’s nomination for a second term on Thursday, joining a general-election contest against Joe Biden that he and his party cast this week as a crusade against left-wing ideology and violent social disorder, fought against the backdrop of a virus that Republicans largely described as a temporary handicap on the economy,” the New York Times reports.

“In a 70-minute speech on the South Lawn of the White House, Mr. Trump repeatedly misrepresented his own record on the coronavirus, part of a broader attempt to minimize his lapses in office and turn a harsh light toward his opponent, Mr. Biden, a moderate Democrat.”

“The president also accused his rival and Democrats of failing to take on rioters, though Mr. Biden has condemned recent acts of violence, and of harboring designs to restructure the American economic system along socialist lines.”

Washington Post: “Trump cast himself as an insurgent rather than the incumbent he is, railing against Biden as eminence of ‘the failed political class.'”

No Bushes, Reagans, Cheneys or McCains
August 28, 2020 at 6:03 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 5 Comments

New York Times: “There were no Bushes, Cheneys, Bakers or Doles. There were no former Republican presidents or vice presidents, or prominent former cabinet members like Condoleezza Rice, who were part of Republican White Houses over the decades leading to Mr. Trump’s election. Indeed, two names were barely mentioned over roughly 10 hours of convention speeches and video: Bush and Reagan. (And never mind anyone named McCain.)”

“Their absence seems to be the final signature on the divorce between the old guard and Mr. Trump, as well as proof, if it were still needed, of how much he has taken over the party. And the feeling is mutual. The old guard — the elected officials, cabinet members and political operatives — has shown little interest in being part of the Trump pageant, and Mr. Trump has had little interest in having it join his show.”

Betsy DeVos Out of Sight
August 28, 2020 at 6:00 am EDT By Taegan Goddard 5 Comments

“School choice is finally getting prime-time attention as President Donald Trump makes the issue a focal point of his reelection bid, appealing to parents clamoring for an alternative to neighborhood public schools during the pandemic,” Politico reports.

“But the policy issue’s biggest cheerleader, his Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, has been kept out of that spotlight.”

If all the media has to do is complain about their ignorant interpretation of the Hatch Act then you know Trump and the Republications had a good night.

And no one was happier than the Secret Service that Trump gave his acceptance speech at the White House. If they had their way, Trump would do all his campaigning from the White House.

Alice Johnson, the grandmother freed by President Trump on the advice of Kim Kardashian, was sentenced to life in prison by a crime bill that Joe Biden co-sponsored, wrote and championed, The Post can reveal.

As a single mom of five in 1996, Johnson, now 65, was slapped with five concurrent life sentences without the chance of parole on a first-time non-violent drug charge for her involvement in a million-dollar cocaine ring.

Trump commuted her sentence in June 2018 following lobbying from reality TV star and lawyer-in-training Kardashian, and Johnson will speak at Thursday’s 2020 Republican National Convention finale.

But Johnson would never have been sentenced to life in prison if not for a 1986 drug abuse act written by then-Sen. Joe Biden that stiffened penalties for drug offenses and disproportionately targeted black people.

THE NY TIMES HITS THE PANIC BUTTON

I’m guessing the Democrats’ internal polling on the current rioting and protesting is looking really bad, because the New York Times this morning declares a five-alarm fire with this new story

ALL FROM TAEGAN GODDARD:

Trump Wields Fear In Pitch for 4 More Years

“As he laid out his case for reelection, President Trump deployed a powerful, and familiar, political tactic: fear,” the AP reports.

“In a tradition-defying convention address delivered from the White House, Trump painted a grim portrait of violence in American cities run by Democrats and populated by voters who largely oppose him. Though his depictions were at odds with the full reality on the ground in those cities, Trump held himself up as the last best hope for keeping lawlessness from reaching suburban communities — the same communities where he needs to stem the tide of voters turning against the Republican Party.”

“Fear has long been wielded by politicians, in part because it works.”

BUT FEAR AIN'T WORKING THIS TIME. SEE THE FOLLOWING:

Republicans Were Not Focused on Top Issues

As a backdrop to the just-ended Republican convention, Gallup routinely asks an open-ended question about what’s the most important problem facing the country today.

In August, 35% said something about the coronavirus pandemic, 12% named the economy, and 10% said race relations.

Only 4% thought crime was most important.

MY, MY. Fancy that.
FEAR AIN'T WORKING THIS TIME.

— President Trump, in an interview with the New York Times, when asked about his second term agenda if re-elected.

I THINK TRUMP SHOULD HAVE TURNED OFF THE CAMERA. SEE THE FOLLOWING:

Scott Walker Turned Off Camera During Interview
August 28, 2020 at 7:38 am EDT By Taegan Goddard

Former Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R) turned off his video camera and cut short a CNN interview as Anderson Cooper pressed him on the absurdity of President Trump trying to blame Joe Biden for civil unrest in the country.

LOL. WHEN THE QUESTIONING GOT TOUGH, HE JUST SWITCHED OFF THE CAMERA.

LOL.

leave it to the AP to completely misread the situation.

Trump's not running on fear for one simple reason - we're not afraid.

we're a lot of things. pissed, fed up, aggravated, annoyed, and for those whose business was destroyed by scumbags - furious.

we're not afraid of the BLM scumbags, pederast. not by a long shot. but the BLM scumbags should fear US. oh yes, they should be mortally afraid of US.

I literally have zero sympathy for these people. They came to Kenosha for the sake of violence, destruction, and overall chaos.
