Rittenhouse self defense argument looks better the more information we have...

Once again, the knee jerk reaction to something might just turn out to be entirely the wrong reaction.

It's funny how in a country that supposedly is rigged for the white person and against the minorities, the law enforcement leadership and high level prosecutors  have been quick to arrest and charge the white police officer or white boy with a gun, while pretty much ignoring all of the criminal looting, destruction, and violence that has been ironically justified in the name of social justice.

Either way, the video footage of what happened the other night does actually start to lend itself to Rittenhouse having a legitimate self defense case when it comes to the murder charges. Whether he can justify walking around with a loaded gun is an entirely different concept.

But the video footage now appears to show that Rittenhouse was being chased into a parking lot that there was another shot fired prior to Rittenhouse shooting anyone. Now that first gun shot may or may not have been intended for Rittenhouse, but how does he know one way or the other. He is being chased (apparently for being on the side of the cops or for trying to protect property) by an angry mob who likely wanted to cause him great physical harm if they caught him.

Oddly, after he shoots the person who first approaches him in the parking lot, the mob doubles down on their efforts to chase him down, making me seriously wonder about the mindset of these people. Do they really believe that they are not only above the law, but above normal obvious consequences? Only after Rittenhouse shoots two more of his pursuers do the appear to stop pursuing him.

This is a difficult situation legally. Should Rittenhouse had even been there? Were people chasing him because they wanted to "disarm" him or were they attempting to beat the living snot out of him. Why are we apparently "drawing lines" as to what crimes we are now allowing people to commit and what responsibility does this policy have in regards to this sort of inevitable escalation.

This may be another tough case for a prosecutor to convince 12 people to find this 17 year old guilty of murder. After all, there are more and more and more people everyday who now believe that these riots are well past the point of going too far, and there are more and more and more people everyday who are going to support people standing up to them, if not standing up themselves. If it becomes a crime to protect your property from criminals and murder to not allow an angry mob to beat you, well that is simply a society that many people will not want to live in.

but unlike a pants shitting, depends pissing pussy who would allow his own daughter to be beaten by BLM/Antifa in a violent attack on her property... as a parent and a proud member of my community I would rise up and fight criminals if they attempted to come into my town, destroy my property, and break the law in my city.

I would be in favor of virtual debates more like the Lincoln-Douglas debates in which each candidate gets to address the viewing audience directly for say, fifteen minutes and then the other.

No questions from reporters, just a back and forth between the two debaters with prepared scripts and statements being allowed.

Trump will not want that because in a debate that fair he would clearly lose.

American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. The event was the first major act of defiance to British rule over the colonists. About 15 minutes before the first shooting, police officers drive past Mr. Rittenhouse, and the other armed civilians who claim to be protecting the dealership, and offer water out of appreciation.

Mr. Rittenhouse walks up to a police vehicle carrying his rifle and talks with the officers.

He eventually leaves the dealership and is barred by the police from returning. Six minutes later footage shows Mr. Rittenhouse being chased by an unknown group of people into the parking lot of another dealership several blocks away.

While Mr. Rittenhouse is being pursued by the group, an unknown gunman fires into the air, though it’s unclear why. The weapon’s muzzle flash appears in footage filmed at the scene.

Mr. Rittenhouse turns toward the sound of gunfire as another pursuer lunges toward him from the same direction. Mr. Rittenhouse then fires four times, and appears to shoot the man in the head.

Mr. Rittenhouse seems to make a phone call and then flees the scene. Several people chase him, some shouting, “That’s the shooter!”

As Mr. Rittenhouse is running, he trips and falls to the ground. He fires four shots as three people rush toward him. One person appears to be hit in the chest and falls to the ground. Another, who is carrying a handgun, is hit in the arm and runs away.

Mr. Rittenhouse’s gunfire is mixed in with the sound of at least 16 other gunshots that ring out during this time.

As this happens, police vehicles just one block away remain stationary during the gunfire.

Mr. Rittenhouse walks with his hands up toward the police vehicles. Bystanders call out to the officers that he had just shot people.

The police drive by him without stopping, on their way to assist the victims.

The left wants it to be black vs. white, immigrant vs. native, etc. Trump’s making clear that it’s about people who are constructive, productive, and generally happy, vs. people who are destructive, parasitic, and generally miserable, and that that difference transcends things like race. This is a huge, underappreciated — and very traditionally American — message. By promoting it at this crucial time, Trump may very well be saving America.

Marxist activist Angela Davis is warning that the street demonstrations currently rocking cities around the country are just the early stages of a larger “revolution” that is needed to bring about lasting radical social and economic change.

“Sometimes we assume the most important work is the dramatic work—the street demonstrations. I like the term that [Marxist cultural critic] John Berger used: Demonstrations are ‘rehearsals for revolution,'” Davis told filmmaker Ava DuVernay in a wide-ranging interview in Vanity Fair.

gee alky, that sounds familiar...

At least two houses of worship were tagged by protesters.

Townhall's Julio Rosas caught video of someone in the Black Lives Matter crowd spray-painting "Free Palestine" in the driveway of Kenosha's Beth Hillel Temple.

The synagogue, which sits about a block from where Rittenhouse reportedly shot and killed two people Tuesday night, had escaped damage until Wednesday night, the Wisconsin Jewish Chronicle reported.

Rabbi Dean Feingold told the Chronicle on Tuesday, "All around us, damage has happened. Fires have been started. Windows have been broken. Things have been written on walls. We've been spared so far, except for our power has been out."

The synagogue has not been in use during the coronavirus pandemic. The one person who had been in the building, a retiree and former caretaker who lived there, had already been moved out for safety reasons.

The rabbi also told the outlet that she was far more worried about the loss of life and the causes the protesters are marching for than any damage that could happen to the facility.

"I'm a lot more concerned about the loss of life that the Black community experiences on a regular basis because of systemic racism, because of the violence directed at them, than I am about whatever damage or costs are incurred for us because of it," Feingold told the Chronicle.

The other religious location that was graffitied by rioters was Christ the King Church.

Rosas captured a photo of "BLM" spray-painted on the church sign after protesters passed by.

MINNEAPOLIS — New documents filed in the George Floyd case give new information about the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's findings in Floyd's autopsy.

Handwritten notes of a law enforcement interview with Dr. Andrew Baker, the Hennepin County Medical Examiner, say Floyd had 11 ng/mL of fentanyl in his system.

"If he were found dead at home alone and no other apparent causes, this could be acceptable to call an OD. Deaths have been certified with levels of 3," Baker told investigators.

In another new document, Baker said, "That is a fatal level of fentanyl under normal circumstances."

But then Baker added, "I am not saying this killed him."

As soon as it happened, social media had video of the attack on Rittenhouse. He fell to the ground as violent criminals attacked him and he opened fire on them. There can be no narrative in which he is the villain. He may have been naive, but he was simply following the civic nationalist code and doing what he thought was his duty.

This is Jim Snow America. A white kid following the rules is guilty, no matter what the facts say, so he sits in prison. His family started a defense fund on Go Fund Me, but it was immediately taken down. Again, in Jim Snow America, whites are not allowed to avail themselves of the resources for self-defense. The system will now wage war on this kid’s family in order to prevent them from defending their son. In Jim Snow America, white people just have to take it.

It is an infuriating reality, for sure. In a better world, the mayor of Kenosha would already be swinging from a tree. The good people of that city would have remembered the words of Jefferson and fertilized their tree of liberty. Of course, in a sane society, it would never have come to this. There would be no riots sponsored by the ruling class, so Kyle Rittenhouse would not have felt the need to go out in the streets. The reason all of this happened is the rulers made it happen…

Ultimately, that is now the significance of the Kenosha riots. White people are faced with the reality of their sons being sent to prison for the crime of being white. They face having their businesses destroyed because non-whites are ungrateful. They are being harassed at restaurants and in their home by mobs sponsored by the ruling class who have embraced anti-whiteness as a revolutionary cause. It’s no longer an abstract political argument. It’s daily reality.

Dan Rather

Chilling.

That is the sentiment that sticks with me this morning as I reflect on day 2 of the Republican National Convention. Even to call it a convention is to miss the point. This was propaganda, the pageantry, power, and symbolism of our federal government - OUR government, we the people - exploited by a president who feels unbound by the constitution in his desperate desire to hold on to power.

A secretary of state from foreign soil pledges sycophantic fealty to his boss with hopes of bolstering his own standing in a political party that has become a personality cult. Immigrants are used as props in the White House by a president who has demonized, restricted, and mistreated even legal immigrants and asylum seekers. Uniformed military personnel are employed in this charade. A first lady, who is an unrepentant birther, mouths teleprompter platitudes in front of an unmasked crowd of true believers during a deadly mismanaged pandemic in a re-imagined rose garden and is heralded by some for her tone.

Meanwhile, in the real America, there is death, desperation, depression, hunger, and heartbreak. Once again a Black family is thrust into the national spotlight by a police shooting. And scenes of violent protests and counterprotests sweep across our national discourse, encouraged by a president who sees personal gain in racial division.

The polls tighten, or do they? What is hitting with the public and what isn't? How are these speeches playing? These are questions for the mechanics of the horse race. They are the comfortable grooves into which campaign reporting usually falls. They are hard to resist. But they do not accurately see the full scope of the moment.

A line of attack on Joe Biden is that he would be a captive of the far left, that he is somehow a socialist. Nevermind that many of the policies of even the more liberal members of the Democratic Party would be considered mainstream center left in most European democracies. But what one doesn't hear enough in our media coverage is the term "far right." Racist and antisemtic authoritarian conspiracy theories are waved off by Republican politicians who know very well what they are about and how they are fueling support for Donald Trump. The trappings of the state are used for naked power politics. Corruption reigns. Foreign dictators are coddled. The rule of law is undermined. Voting is suppressed. This all isn't theoretical. This is happening now. All of it. And in plain sight.

With all of this power, it is rather amazing that Donald Trump isn't assured re-election. It is a testimony to the strength and durability of the majority of Americans, across a diverse political spectrum, who see the threat for what it is. Yes, this is a fight for democracy. But do not underestimate the strength and power of those who stand in opposition. Time and again, America has withstood threats - external and internal - in its uneven march to a more perfect union. And time and time again, courageous and energetic mass movements have signed up for service to this nation's higher ideals. This is a moment of testing, to be sure. It is, as I said, chilling. But it cannot be defeated unless it is clearly seen for what it is.

Know how to get your vote in, and make sure it is counted. See how you can help others have their voices heard at the ballot box. There is so much to despair about, but despair and demoralization is being weaponized by those who seek to cynically hold on to their power. Instead, try to be inspired by a movement of tens of millions across this nation who are determined that this shall not be the definition of America.

Joe Biden will build us back together.

AXIOS:
Kamala Harris: The RNC is designed "to soothe Donald Trump's ego"

Sen. Kamala Harris excoriated President Trump in a speech pre-butting the final night of the GOP convention, accusing him and his Republican allies of ignoring "the reality" of an America facing crises of racial injustice, public health and economic despair.

Why it matters:
Harris said throughout her presidential run — and again during her Democratic National Convention speech — that her goal is to "prosecute" the case against the Trump presidency.

She made that case on Thursday by relentlessly attacking Trump and the Republicans for spending little time during their convention on the coronavirus pandemic.

What she's saying:

"Unlike the Democratic convention, which was very clear-eyed about the challenges we are facing and how we will tackle them, the Republican convention is designed for one purpose: to soothe Donald Trump's ego," Harris said.

"We know the truth: Donald Trump has failed at the most basic and important job of a president of the United States. He failed to protect the American people. Plain and simple.

"Here's what you have to understand about the nature of a pandemic, it's relentless. You can't stop it with a tweet. You can't create a distraction and hope it will go away. It doesn't go away.

"By its nature, a pandemic is unforgiving. If you get it wrong at the beginning, the consequences are catastrophic. It's very hard to catch up. You don't get a second chance at getting it right.

"Well, President Trump, he got it wrong from the beginning and then he got it wrong again and again."

The bottom line:
"Donald Trump stood idly by and, folks, it was a deadly decision," Harris said. "Instead of rising to meet the most difficult moment of his presidency, Donald Trump froze. He was scared and he was petty and vindictive."
