Has polling demographics become politically correct?

I have been using a spreadsheet to track the popular vote Presidential race going back to the 2004 election. I have used a variety of weighing and demographics, but the number one demographic I have always relied on the most heavily is partisan breakdown. As in Republican, Democrat and Independents. The use of the partisan breakdown (among other things) along with a fairly traditional and basic manner of weighing the electorate has allowed me to come pretty damned close nearly every election. While the 2004, 2008, and 2012 elections were not necessarily surprises and didn't take much rocket science to get those close, not many people got the 2016 election popular vote as close as I did.

But lately I have found that many pollsters have been providing mainly demographics built almost entirely on your physical makeup. Gender. Age. Income. Race. Religion. There even tends to be an almost universal inclusion on what part of the country you are from, which seems bafflingly irrelevant. But there seems to be quite a few more pollsters who no longer appear to include any make up (or possibly don't even ask) about political affiliation. Even many of those who do, tend to micro-analyze down "leaners" which are then moved into the Republican or Democratic category, leaving an extremely low amount of independents to sample from which can lead to wildly different results. I saw one cross tab that appeared to show about a 50 point spread with Independents, at which point I was forced to throw it out since Independent make up about 30% of the electorate in every election. All of this shifting from a traditional polling demographic model to whatever we are seeing today seems puzzling at best and troublesome at worst.

I read a couple of articles over the past couple of months suggesting that the use of political affiliation was a poor manner in which to weigh a poll and that it should be eventually just left out completely. There was little logic or explanation implied other than it appeared that new wave of people running your polling want something more tangible and relevant to how people view themselves today. In other words, what sex you are, how old you are, what race you are, what part of the country you live are not subjective to anything but a static answer. It is who you are, while what political affiliation you are is being considered less relevant because you decide it rather than being born into it. Or possibly many people just take more pride in other characteristics and therefore political affiliation is unimportant.

I get that this is the year 2020 and everyone wants to be labeled and associated with some kind of group and I am pretty sure that the younger generation is not too much on political affiliation labels. They would rather be tied to their race, tied to a creed, or one of the 39 different genders that are currently out there. Being a Republican or Democrat is probably old school to them and yesterday's concept of what politics is made up from. But by deciding to totally ignore partisanship, at the expense that you get the proper amount of pansexual vs bisexuals vs agenders, that may well be missing the point. What a person wants to tell you about themselves isn't always what you "need" to know. Some things in life cannot just be what millennials want to make them to be.

It's not to say that I have not found enough pollsters to create a 2020 spreadsheet. It's just not as robust as what I had seen in the past. I might have 60% of what I used to work with, and almost no daily tracking polls (which provide daily feedback). Moreover, even within those pollsters that provide what I would generally need, I find some of it cryptic, unusually reported, and mathematically hard to associate with the top line numbers. I find myself plugging here and there and hoping to see something that makes sense, occasionally giving up and tossing the poll out for lack of any semblance of statistical consistency.

In 2016 I stated over and over that I did not believe the large state polling leads for Clinton or the multiple double digit lead polling for Clinton during the month of October. Obviously I was right. But right now I am having issues really "trusting" much of the polling at all, or at least to the degree that I feel comfortable making a hard call. That being said, I stand behind what I have for the most part. I still think Biden is up by around the figure I have. But I certainly wouldn't bet the mortgage on it.

Another trick pollsters are now doing is over weighting the never Trump gop voters, like suburban white women. That way, they don't get called out for the low top same % but still get the anti Trump results.

We Can Probably Stop Asking Trump If He’s a White Supremacist?

This was all before Trump chose to qualify the behavior of the vitriolic mob that marched on Charlottesville, and retweeted posts describing Kyle Rittenhouse, the teenaged militia affiliate who killed two protesters in Kenosha, as justified in his killing spree. None of this is changed or even complicated by inviting the president to formally denounce a weapon he has so enthusiastically wielded. It’s merely an opening for more dishonesty, in denial of one of the foundational ideals of his presidency. Trump has rarely erred in demonstrating where his sympathies lie. Much attention will no doubt be paid to its latest reaffirmation. But it’s worth asking why, almost four years into his presidency, his debt to white supremacy has yet to be accepted widely enough that people can stop offering him chances to pretend otherwise.

Because he is a white supremacist.

I still don't understand why you keep supporting him.

i CAN win the lottery if i buy a ticket. the question is - WILL he win?

i have yet to see anyone give a compelling reason TO vote for Biden that doesn't mention or reference Trump.

what i am seeing is the volume, frequency and outrageousness of the lies that are being told about Trump are increasing as we close in on election day.

regarding the polling that shows Biden in the lead from sea to shining sea...

i'm beginning to wonder if the pollsters aren't predicting a Biden win by virtue of the left STEALING the election. we've been told straight up that's the intent. we've seen the hissy fits and tantrums surrounding the USPS, we know that Biden has at least 600 lawyers locked, loaded and ready to steal, err sue. we know for a fact that states like MI and PA don't require signatures OR postmarks on mail in ballots, and i guaran-fucking-tee you that there are box trailers around the country packed full of mail in ballots poised to miraculously materialize just like they did on a smaller scale for Al Franken.

Biden can't fill a handicapped restroom stall with supporters at an event, but i'm supposed to believe that he leads by double-digits nationwide.

no sane person is taking that at face value for all the reasons i've listed.

so go ahead... give a reason to vote FOR Biden. without naming or referencing Trump.

Fox News' John Roberts tears into Trump defenders over white supremacy comments
Axios
Axios

Fox News reporter John Roberts criticized White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany on Thursday for refusing to provide a "definitive and unambiguous" statement condemning white supremacist groups on behalf of President Trump, arguing that she deflected by only pointing to his past statements. the same shit rrb said

Why it matters: Roberts pointed out that despite McEnany's insinuation that the media is over-exaggerating the controversy over President Trump telling the far-right Proud Boys to "stand back and stand by" at Tuesday's debate, a number of Trump's Republican allies have urged the president to clarify and unequivocally denounce white supremacy.

What he's saying: "If the president didn't know who Proud Boys were, and Joe Biden just threw out the name — if he didn't know who they were, why did he denounce them?" asked a visibly frustrated Roberts.

"Why didn't he say, 'I don't know who they are. Can you give me a little bit more information about them,' and then make a decision about it? So this all remains very puzzling."
"And for all of you on Twitter who are hammering me for asking that question, I don't care. Because it's a question that needs to be asked, and clearly the president's Republican colleagues a mile away from here are looking for an answer for it too. So stop deflecting. Stop blaming the media. I'm tired of it."

1,600 former Justice Department attorneys accuse Justice Department Barr of helping Trump in election
TOPICS:PoliticsUSA

POSTED BY: NEWSUS OCTOBER 1, 2020

WASHINGTON – Former Justice Department attorneys expressed their fear Thursday that Attorney General William Barr will be the agency’s strength to help President Donald Trump win re-election, and mentioned Barr’s statements about the ballots by mail and the tense political investigation into the Russia investigation.

“We are involved in the attorney general barr intending to use the broad law enforcement powers of the DOJ to undermine our maximum basic democratic value: free and fair elections,” according to an open letter signed through some 1,600 former Department of Justice employees.

Barr echoed the president’s attacks on ballots by mail, as more and more states allowed the coronavirus pandemic to vote by mail.

“People are looking to replace regulations for this, so that this method, which, logically, is very exposed to fraud and coertion, is reckless and harmful and other people are playing with fire,” the attorney general said in an interview. CNN last month.

Trump Focuses On Violence In Cities: Is His “Law Enforcement” Working?

Last week, the Justice Department announced an investigation into nine rejected ballots allegedly recovered from a polling place in northeastern Pennsylvania County. Seven of the nine ballots had been submitted to the president, who stated continuously, without evidence, than a major mail-related fraud. The announcement, which did not recommend the kind of “uncontrollable” fraud that the president claimed, “premature and inappropriate” and gave the White House and Trump’s crusade a topic of discussion to discredit voting by mail, the letter told me.

The Department of Justice responded to a request for comment.

Intelligence officials said they had “seen” no coordinated effort to manipulate the vote by mail. FBI Director Chris Wray also told a Senate panel that “he has never seen, historically, any kind of coordinated national voter fraud in a primary election, either by mail or otherwise. “

The letter also accused Barr of the Justice Department of discrediting the Russia investigation, which threw a black cloud over much of Trump’s presidency and led to the indictment of a dozen former crusader affiliates and aides. Barr called a federal prosecutor to investigate the origins The investigation through Connecticut Federal Prosecutor John Durham has led to a crime rate opposite a former Justice Department attorney who pleaded guilty to falsifying an email used through investigators to justify continued surveillance of Trump’s former crusader , Carter Page.

JAMES COMEY: Defend Russia’s investigation, conceded on Carter Page

Barr in the past told Fox News that there would be more vital advances before the November presidential election.

The letter said there is no justification for publishing the effects before the election.

“This brazen politicization and abuse of federal law enforcement can cause immense and lasting damage to our democracy and the integrity and reputation of the Department of Justice,” the letter says. “Given Attorney General Barr’s transparent willingness to use the Department to give a political hand President Trump, the media and the public see any Justice Department election activity, adding any announcements or location similar to the Durham investigation, with proper skepticism. “

The attorney general publicly attacked the Russia investigation and told Fox News that he un baselessly introduced the “sabotage of the presidency. “Barr did not provide evidence to support his assertion.

The Justice Department inspector general discovered that the FBI had a valid basis for opening an investigation into Russia and the Trump Crusade in the summer of 2016, especially suggesting that Robert Mueller took over the investigation in 2017. his own russia investigation reaffirmed Mueller’s team’s findings that Russia participated in the 2016 presidential race and that members of the Trump crusade were eager to capitalize on the effort.

The letter also called Barr about his recent comments calling the justice branch’s career lawyers “headhunters” who are too competitive in prosecuting criminal cases.

”Criminalization of politics”: AG Barr says prosecutors are headhunters

Career lawyers, or Justice Decomposer lawyers who have no political name, “are sometimes components of permanent bureaucracy,” Barr said in a recent speech at Hillsdale College in which he protected his involvement in criminal cases. “They don’t have the political legitimacy”. to be the public side of difficult decisions and they don’t have the policy to publicly protect those decisions. “

Over the following year, Barr overpinned the lawsuits by recommending a milder ruling for Trump’s political adviser, Roger Stone, and also lowered the rates opposed to Trump’s former national security adviser, Michael Flynn.

“Attorney General Barr’s comments show a false basic impression of the role of career prosecutors and why many of them have brazenly resisted their interventions on behalf of President Trump,” the letter says. their political leaders, when these leaders violate their oath to faithfully enforce the law, their career is forced by their own oaths of work to respect the precept of equivalent justice before the law. “

Sedition charges protesters?: Attorney General Barr suggests accusing protesters of sedition in appeal to federal prosecutors

Patrick Cotter, a former federal prosecutor and one of the signatories to the letter, said Barr’s movements were “very serious violations” of the Justice Department’s classic role as an apolitical institution.

“But I’m involved in the risk of an investigation in Durham. The fact that the Attorney General has done everything imaginable to appoint a carefully elected prosecutor to embark on a strangely rare investigation that results in his objective and even more. at its obvious moment, deliberately designed to have an effect on a national presidential election, it is impressive for its impass of its ungodliness,” Cotter said.

More than 50 additional former GOP national security officials have officially endorsed Democratic nominee Joe Biden for president.

The group, called Former Republican National Security Officials for Biden, first endorsed Biden in August, with 70 members backing the Democrat. On Wednesday an additional 56 people joined the group, bringing their total membership to about 130 individuals.

Those officials join several other GOP groups and political figures who have thrown their support behind Biden. Separately, a bipartisan group of 489 former national security officials also endorsed Biden last week.

The new group of former officials throwing their support for Biden reportedly include: Greg Brower, a former FBI assistant director; Larry Pfeiffer, a former CIA chief of staff; and Alden Munson, former deputy director of national intelligence.

The group is reportedly launching ads in several key swing states, such as Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, Florida, Arizona, North Carolina and Texas.

Elizabeth Neumann, Trump's former assistant secretary for threat prevention in the Department of Homeland Security, told Reuters that many officials finalized their endorsement for Biden after President Trump refused to denounce white supremacy at the presidential debate Tuesday night.

"He has an inability to clearly condemn white supremacists," Neumann told the wire service. "He either likes the ambiguity or he's intentionally endorsing these people. He's unfit, and I think he's extremely dangerous."

and/or foreign policy positions in Republican Administrations, from
Richard Nixon to George W. Bush. We have worked directly on
national security issues with these Republican Presidents and/or their
principal advisers during wartime and other periods of crisis, through
successes and failures. We know the personal qualities required of a
President of the United States.
None of us will vote for Donald Trump.
From a foreign policy perspective, Donald Trump is not qualified to be
President and Commander-in-Chief. Indeed, we are convinced that he
would be a dangerous President and would put at risk our country’s
national security and well-being.
Most fundamentally, Mr. Trump lacks the character, values, and
experience to be President. He weakens U.S. moral authority as the
leader of the free world. He appears to lack basic knowledge about and
belief in the U.S. Constitution, U.S. laws, and U.S. institutions,
including religious tolerance, freedom of the press, and an independent
judiciary.
In addition, Mr. Trump has demonstrated repeatedly that he has little
understanding of America’s vital national interests, its complex
diplomatic challenges, its indispensable alliances, and the democratic
values on which U.S. foreign policy must be based. At the same time,
he persistently compliments our adversaries and threatens our allies and
friends. Unlike previous Presidents who had limited experience in
foreign affairs, Mr. Trump has shown no interest in educating
himself. He continues to display an alarming ignorance of basic facts of
contemporary international politics. Despite his lack of knowledge, Mr.
Trump claims that he understands foreign affairs and “knows more
about ISIS than the generals do.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

Mr. Trump lacks the temperament to be President. In our experience, a
President must be willing to listen to his advisers and department heads;
must encourage consideration of conflicting views; and must
acknowledge errors and learn from them. A President must be
disciplined, control emotions, and act only after reflection and careful
deliberation. A President must maintain cordial relationships with
leaders of countries of different backgrounds and must have their respect
and trust.
In our judgment, Mr. Trump has none of these critical qualities. He is
unable or unwilling to separate truth from falsehood. He does not
encourage conflicting views. He lacks self-control and acts
impetuously. He cannot tolerate personal criticism. He has alarmed our
closest allies with his erratic behavior. All of these are dangerous
qualities in an individual who aspires to be President and Commander-
in-Chief, with command of the U.S. nuclear arsenal.
We understand that many Americans are profoundly frustrated with the
federal government and its inability to solve pressing domestic and
international problems. We also know that many have doubts about
Hillary Clinton, as do many of us. But Donald Trump is not the answer
to America’s daunting challenges and to this crucial election. We are
convinced that in the Oval Office, he would be the most reckless
President in American history.

Joe Biden Is Not a Good Guy
He IS the Democrat Party.

Joe Biden is not a good guy. He is everything the media projects that Trump is — serial fabulist, stupid, ungracious, entitled, corrupt, a grifter, a no-talent with a big mouth, on-the-take kids, in bed with the Russia, Ukraine, and China. Name a topic, and what is alleged about Donald J. Trump is actually true about Joe Biden.

How enraged would it make you to have to stand across the stage from this corrupt, aging politician who personally was involved in illegally attempting to interfere with your election and then your first term in office with nonstop bogus investigations? Joe Biden is the guy who suggested the Logan Act to tie up Michael Flynn. Biden’s personal actions against Donald Trump and, more importantly, the 52 million people who voted for him, were evil and un-American. Biden has no business being in American politics, never mind on the stage as the Democratic candidate for president, but this is 2020 and life is not fair.

Chris Wallace didn’t note this obvious issue. Rather, he made clear who the villain in the diorama would be. (Hint: It wasn’t Joe Biden.)

This above-it-all, basement-dwelling, lawn-chair-distanced, masked former vice president is a pretender, a charlatan who is most definitely not a good guy.

Trump was asked whether he’d denounce white supremacists, again, as though he’s a white supremacist. Wallace framed Trump as a racist. Biden called him one on the debate stage. Joe Biden, the man who made the term “super-predators” popular and engineered a generation of mass incarceration, had the gonads to call Trump racist. Trump was rightly outraged by it all, but his responses left much to be desired. He could have mentioned the the First Step Act and the people who have benefitted. He could have mentioned Opportunity Zones. Instead, the impression was a president sputtering in outrage.

Joe Biden is not a good guy. A good guy doesn’t scream, “Racist!” or say, “Shut up, man!” or call the president of the United States “clown” on the debate stage in front of the country and world. He must display at least some decorum. And maybe that was Donald J. Trump’s point last night: to reveal the truth of the character of Joe Biden. This above-it-all, basement-dwelling, lawn-chair-distanced, masked former vice president is a pretender, a charlatan who is most definitely not a good guy.

President Trump actually answered questions. Joe Biden refused to answer a question about court-packing.

Alky I closed my eyes and randomly selected a name

Paul Haenle

Please show me where he was a prosecutor

Trained as a China foreign area officer in the U.S. Army, Haenle was twice assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Beijing. He served as a U.S. Army company commander during a two-year tour to the Republic of Korea. Early assignments in the U.S. Army included postings in Germany, Desert Storm, Korea, and Kuwait. He retired from active duty as a lieutenant colonel in October 2009.
Haenle received an M.A in Asian studies from Harvard University, and a B.S. from Clarkson University.

A prosecutor without a JD??

Do you understand how easily you are manipulated?

This is a reason why we have a demolish the Republicans!!!!!

Oh and Alky JD means Doctor of Jurisprudence

Which I think a prosecutor needs to have

And where does Haenel’s come from?

Caliphate4vr said...

Government attorneys need a law degree, known as a Juris Doctor. They must also pass a bar exam and admission to a state bar association is usually required. Admission to practice in federal court may be required to work as a federal government attorney.

How is Haenle, without a JD considered a federal prosecutor?

Should I close my eyes and select another Federal Prosecutor

LMAO

James I’ve come to the realization of why I don’t respect you and it may or may not be your fault.

You don’t have critical thinking skills.

It’s your education, Seminary and English degrees only require, faith and rote thought

It’s why you so heavily rely on others to come up with anything....

MY REPLY:

Cali, I never claimed to be an expert in the field of politics. I only first got really interested in politics when Obama started running and, because I didn't think he stood a snowball's chance in hell against Hillary, I didn't pay much attention to him until he started winning primaries and I saw he did have a chance. Intrigued, I read both his books, learned about him and became an admirer, and even more so with his "A More Perfect Union" speech.

So I don't claim to be a whiz at political analysis. I respect and rely on the many sources adduced by Goddard, but I use other sources as well, from many places, Real Clear Politics, ABC, CBS, MSNBC, WSJ, and others.

But there are times when I personally defend some thoughts of my own pretty darn well, and I have sometimes made some of you squirm a bit.

But you yourself seldom challenge me in a non sarcastic, non down putting way that I feel a need to answer seriously.

Now, since you did not call me pedo above, I will respond like this:

You were very astute in questioning "where does it say former prosecutors other than on political liar web site?" and in pointing out that the letter Goddard linked is titled, "DOJ Alumni Open Letter..."etc.

I admiringly grant that you were astute and had every right to ask, 'Where does it say "prosecutors."'

Well, I can only say that Goddard may have lied, but I think not. When I googled his headline, “More than 1,600 former prosecutors call out Bill Bar” I found headlines from several sources, including the reputable Hill, some of which call them “former Justice Dept. prosecutors,” others call them former Justice Department “lawyers,” others “attorneys,” and one source that called them, "More than 1,100 former prosecutors and other DOJ officials.”

So I don’t know whether Goddard got careless, but if he did, he was not alone.

And that’s the best answer I can give you. I don't think Goddard intentionally lied.

At any rate, a VERY large number of former Justice Department "officials" or employees, or whatever they are, sure do think that Barr has behaved toward and with the Justice Department in ways that NO Attorney General EVER should behave, and have said so.

That much is factual.

I welcome further civil discourse anytime you want to pursue it.
