(MINNEAPOLIS) A Minneapolis judge dismissed former police officer Derek Chauvin's " third-degree murder charge Thursday, according to KARE11.

Judge Peter Cahill kept the other eight of Chauvin's charges stemming from his role in the death of George Floyd in May 2020, including second-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter. Chauvin was shown in a video kneeling on Floyd's neck for about eight minutes before he died, prompting nationwide protests.

FIVE THINGS TO WATCH FOR IN THE FINAL TRUMP-BIDEN PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE
By Gregory Krieg, Eric Bradner and Dan Merica, CNN
Updated 6:02 AM ET, Thu October 22, 2020

(CNN)Time is running out on President Donald Trump.

He is trailing Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden in most national and battleground state polls, making Thursday night's debate the incumbent's last best chance to change the trajectory of a race that, with less than two weeks to run, appears to favor the challenger.

After an initial match up that quickly descended into a glorified shouting match, with Trump repeatedly interrupting Biden and running roughshod over the moderator, the second debate, scheduled for last week, was canceled after the President tested positive for the coronavirus and subsequently refused to take part in a virtual meeting.

This time, the Commission on Presidential Debates has given the green light to an in-person face-off, but with one unprecedented change: The candidates will have their microphones cut off while their opponents respond to the first question of each of the debate's six segments.

The topics slated for discussion over 90 uninterrupted minutes, beginning at 9 p.m. ET, include
"Fighting COVID-19,"
"American Families,"
"Race in America,"
"Climate Change,"
"National Security" and
"Leadership."

But that's just where the moderator, NBC's Kristen Welker, will begin. Where the candidates go from there, especially in Trump's case, is the wild card.

Here are five things to watch in the debate:
_____

1) Will Trump trample over the new rules?

In order to enforce the debate's rule, the commission has resorted to something familiar to a country operating by video conferences: The mute button.

But there are questions over how effective the new guardrails will really be.

Trump's campaign has suggested that length of time will provide Biden with a chance to talk himself into a corner. True or not, past performance suggests Trump lacks the self-control to stand quietly by and find out. If he does try to interrupt, his voice could be picked up by Biden's microphone.

The President's sense of grievance over the changes could also lead him to lash out at Welker. His campaign has already attacked the commission and the President has a history of launching sexist attacks against female debate moderators.

Trump and his allies have been teeing up his plans to attack Welker and the commission by flouting the rules wherever they can. How Trump executes that strategy could provide the voters who haven't already cast a ballot with their last memory of the President before they make a decision.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

2) Coronavirus on the rise

Trump wants to avoid the constant drumbeat of coronavirus news. Surging numbers across the country -- including swing states central to his victory -- make that impossible.

The national surge is significant: Johns Hopkins University found the United States reported over 60,000 new cases on Tuesday and 58,000 on Monday, leading public health experts to refer to this moment as a third surge in infections.

Politically, however, the numbers in swing states are even more dire. Both case and death numbers are on the rise in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa and Michigan, all swing states central to Trump's reelection. The surges are dominating local news coverage, too, meaning most voters are heading to the polls with frequent reminders of the ongoing pandemic.

That's a problem for Trump. The virus has dominated the 2020 election, forcing both candidates to rethink the way they campaign, especially after Trump himself contracted the virus. But Trump has shown recent signs of deep-seated anger at the focus on the virus, lambasting journalists for covering the pandemic and even abruptly ending an interview with 60 Minutes when many of the questions focused on the virus.

Coronavirus remains the most important issue in the minds of voters. How Trump handles questions about the issue will have significant implications in this election.

3) Biden tries to pass one more test

Thursday night's debate is effectively the last major hurdle that must be cleared by Biden, a candidate who -- despite his reputation for gaffes, and some minor stumbles along the way -- has largely stuck to the same message since launching his campaign in April 2019.

In the waning weeks of the 2020 race, that's required Biden to finesse his way around some questions about how he'd govern. The most persistent one he's ducked: Whether he would back some progressives' push to add seats to a Supreme Court that could soon see a 6-3 conservative majority.

He has moved those conversations onto safer political ground, focusing on policy questions such as the future of Obamacare's protections for those with pre-existing conditions instead of handing Trump's campaign ammunition to paint Biden as a tool of his party's progressive wing.

By turning in solid performances in debates and interviews, Biden has also avoided any moments that could look -- to an audience of millions of people -- anything like the mental decline that Trump's campaign has baselessly claimed the 77-year-old former vice president faces.

The day-to-day grind of stump speeches and interactions with reporters on the campaign trail that'll follow Thursday night's debate won't be seen by anywhere near the audience that will tune in. If Biden emerges largely unscathed, he'll likely have successfully weathered every key moment with the potential to alter the dynamics of a presidential race polls show he is winning.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

4)How will Biden handle Trump's personal attacks?

In the alternate universe of right-wing media, Biden is currently embroiled in scandal -- most of it focusing on unproven allegations about his son Hunter Biden. There's also a bogus "Obamagate" conspiracy theory that Trump has promoted, despite its underpinnings all having been knocked down in the real world.

None of it seems to have moved voters who aren't already part of Trump's base, and attacking Biden's surviving son could also backfire.

But Trump is sure to try to use it all to attack Biden -- a candidate who has at times flashed a temper.

Will Biden respond aggressively, by pointing out this week's New York Times report that Trump maintains a bank account in China under a corporate name or that his own children and business have benefitted financially from his presidency? Or will he try not to be baited -- demonstrating to voters his eagerness to take the high road, though potentially leaving some of Trump's attacks unanswered?

5)Who do Trump and Biden direct their closing messages to?

With the beginning of early in-person voting and millions of American casting their ballots by mail, the number of undecided voters still up for grabs is likely much smaller than it was just a few weeks ago.

Even in more conventional circumstances, debates are as much about narrowcasting your message to potential supporters as they are about "winning" the argument on a given issue.

Trump in his recent speeches has made clear that he's perturbed by poll numbers suggesting his support among suburban voters and women is flagging. He'll likely address the dynamic on Thursday night, but his challenge will be to make a coherent and convincing case to those voters -- not, as he's done on the stump, simply complain about the trend or get lost in conspiracy theories.

Biden also has work to do, mainly with Black and Latino voters. They're supporting him by big margins, but not quite to the level that Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama enjoyed. If Biden can energize that traditional base of Democratic support, he will be better-positioned headed into Election Day.

If not, his margin for error becomes that much smaller.

Quinnipiac university poll just released.

The numbers indicate that Biden is doing better than Clinton in 2016.

With less than two weeks until Election Day, likely voters support former Vice President Joe Biden over President Donald Trump 51 - 41 percent in a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University national poll. This is the third national survey among likely voters since September that shows Biden with a 10-point lead, as Biden led Trump 52 - 42 percent on both September 2nd and September 23rd.

Among likely voters who say they will vote in person on Election Day, about two-thirds (65 percent) say they back Trump, while 28 percent support Biden. Among likely voters who have voted or plan on voting by mail or absentee ballot, roughly 7 in 10 (69 percent) say they are supporting Biden, while 21 percent support Trump. For likely voters who have or plan to cast their ballot at an early voting location, a majority (57 percent) support Biden and just over one-third (35 percent) support Trump.

"Three straight polls in the double-digit zone... For Biden-Harris, flush with cash and propelled by consistent support, it remains steady as she goes through the turbulent waters of a bitter, personal, and unsettling campaign," said Quinnipiac University Polling Analyst Tim Malloy.

VOTING IN 2020

Thirty-six percent of likely voters say have voted or plan to vote by mail or absentee ballot, while 33 percent say they plan to vote in person on Election Day and 28 percent say they have cast or plan to cast their ballot at an early voting location.

More than two-thirds (68 percent) of voters who chose a candidate in the presidential match up say they decided who to vote for in this year's presidential election more than six months ago, while 20 percent say they decided in the last six months. Seven percent say they decided in the last two months, and 4 percent say they decided in the last two weeks.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

In measuring just how motivated voters are in the 2020 presidential election, 68 percent of likely voters say they are more motivated to vote than in past presidential elections, 28 percent say their level of motivation is about the same as usual, and 3 percent say they are less motivated.

Compared to the 2016 presidential election, there is a 15-point increase in those who say they are more motivated to vote. On October 19th, 2016, 53 percent of likely voters said they were more motivated, 29 percent said their motivation to vote was about the same as usual, and 17 percent said they were less motivated.

Among likely voters who chose a candidate in the presidential match up, nearly half (48 percent) say if their candidate loses in November, they would think the outcome was legitimate, while 31 percent say they would think the outcome was rigged and 22 percent say they don't know.

A little more than half of likely voters (54 percent) say they expect that the election will be close, while 37 percent think one of the candidates will win in a landslide, and 9 percent don't know.

Forty-four percent of likely voters believe Biden will win the presidential election, while 42 percent believe Trump will win and 14 percent don't know.

BIDEN VS. TRUMP: PERSONAL TRAITS

Just under half (49 percent) of likely voters say they have a favorable opinion of Biden, while 44 percent have an unfavorable opinion.

More than half of likely voters (55 percent) have an unfavorable opinion of Trump, while 40 percent have a favorable opinion.

Likely voters say 64 - 30 percent that Biden has a sense of decency, but say 60 - 37 percent that Trump does not have a sense of decency.

The same question was asked in 2016 about Trump and then-presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. In an October 19, 2016 poll, 55 percent said Clinton had a sense of decency, while 42 percent said she did not. In that same 2016 survey, 59 percent of voters said Trump did not have a sense of decency and 36 percent said he did.

BIDEN VS. TRUMP: THE ISSUES

Likely voters were asked who would do a better job handling four issues.
On handling the economy, they said Trump 48 percent, Biden 47 percent;
On handling health care, they said Biden 55 percent, Trump 39 percent;
On handling the response to the coronavirus, they said Biden 55 percent, Trump 38 percent;
On handling Supreme Court nominations, they said Biden 49 percent, Trump 43 percent.
"Americans vote from their wallets... but character also counts. The president may still engender some confidence when it comes to handling the economy, but on decency, voters see a yawning void between Trump and Biden," added Malloy.

Most of all, this underscores the fact that everyone should wear a damn mask.

We keep hearing this advice for a reason: Face masks are essential. Data has repeatedly shown that wearing one can significantly reduce the spread of COVID-19, and their use is applicable to this new guidance as well.

“If you’re wearing a face covering, that’s not really considered a significant exposure,” Adalja said. In other words, if you’re around someone who is sick and you’re both wearing masks, it’s less of a risk ― the 15-minute mark aside.

“This emphasizes social distancing and face coverings and the need to do that,” along with avoiding larger crowds and practicing good hand hygeine, Adalja added.

New J Street poll of Jewish voters in key battlegrounds
Ben Shnider, J Street (info@jstreet.org)
To:you Details
J Street
Last year, President Trump tweeted: “Jewish people are fleeing the Democratic Party.” He -- and the hawkish right-wing groups that back him -- predicted 2020 would be the year of a major “jexodus,” leading to a surge in Jewish support for Trump and the GOP.

Our new polls of Jewish likely voters in Florida and Pennsylvania show there is, indeed, a movement of voters since 2016. But it’s in the opposite direction.

In both states, Biden leads Trump by a
50+ point margin.
The 73-22 spread in Florida marks a five-point drop in Trump’s Jewish support since he faced off against Hillary Clinton.

Trump and his allies on the right have long claimed that the administration’s giveaways to the Israeli settlement movement and symbolic gestures like moving the US embassy would be keys to wooing Jewish support.

But as J Street polling has shown year after year (and as some pundits still fail to grasp)
American Jews simply do not vote based on Israel.
Like other Americans, we prioritize health care, the economy and in 2020, pandemic response.
Our new survey shows that only six percent of Jewish likely voters in Florida include Israel in their top two voting issues.

And guess what? Even if we did vote based on Israel, our surveys show Jewish voters in these swing states prefer Biden to Trump on the issue
(56%-35% in Florida).

In fact, our polls show a striking rejection of Trump’s foreign policy by Jewish voters and a strong preference for Biden’s leadership and policies.

In Florida:
63% place greater trust in Biden to handle Iran and
64% agree with Biden that the US should reenter the Iran deal;
64% support a two-state agreement with Israeli and Palestinian capitals in Jerusalem.
And the margins were even higher when it came to issues of domestic security:

75% to 20% say Biden would do a better job tackling white nationalism and antisemitism;

67% to 25% trust Biden over Trump to keep American Jews safe.

The polling has made headlines in the Sun Sentinel, Philadelphia Inquirer and throughout Jewish media. But most of the findings will hardly be news to J Street supporters, who’ve been at the forefront of the fight to defend Jewish values and push back on this administration’s dangerous, bigoted agenda.

Still, as we continue that fight over the final weeks of this election, I hope the results do provide some inspiration and encouragement, as they highlight what a large community we have around us. We’re not just in the majority -- we’re in the overwhelming majority. We can’t allow the loudest voices on the right-wing of our community to distract us from that fundamental truth.

And, if all our hard work helps to secure new leadership in the White House and Senate this November -- as I believe it will -- I hope these results give you a sense of just how much we can accomplish by continuing to organize and mobilize this majority over the next four years.

Onward,
Ben Shnider

A little refresher history for the Soviet/Democrats today

In late June 1950, it became apparent that the Soviet action had backfired when the issue of North Korea’s invasion of South Korea was brought before the Security Council. By June 27, the Security Council voted to invoke military action by the United Nations for the first time in the organization’s history. The Soviets could have blocked the action in the Security Council, since the United States, Soviet Union, China, Britain, and France each had absolute veto power, but no Russian delegate was present. In just a short time, a multinational U.N. force arrived in South Korea and the grueling three-year Korean War was underway.

From time to time Cali accuses me of never having a thought of my own.
The following, to appear in our local paper tomorrow, is nothing but thoughts of my own.

So refute me, dullards.

From the Pulpit
James Boswell

In ancient Israel, the prophet Amos strongly condemned the wealthy who took advantage of the poor.

In our own time, political leaders beholden to wealthy backers are trying to distract us from the great robbery being committed against us all. They do this by trying to make us think our worst enemies are terrorists, illegal immigrants, people of other races and ethnicities, and even the poor. They say, “Just look at all those terrible people! See how they cause violence and sow disharmony among you by destroying your inner cities, endangering your suburbs, and taking advantage of the welfare system. They are your greatest enemies, a threat to you and your families.”

In saying this, they attempt to divert attention from our true enemies, the wealthier classes who are committing a far greater, if more subtle, act of violence against us all. By adding to the enormous wealth disparity of our nation, they deprive us of what government was intended to provide, the common welfare. They want us to consider a few instances of violence and looting as worse than the far greater looting perpetrated by the multinational corporate executors, investors, and board members who cynically exploit and steal from all of us.

While encouraging us to regard the poor, non-whites, and immigrants as our greatest enemies, these large-scale looters use government to protect their own selfish economic interests. By appealing to society’s discomfort with different races, immigration statuses, and sexual preferences, they hope to keep us from uniting against our far worse enemies, the outrageously privileged few who not only threaten but cynically exploit and rob our entire society by keeping the economy humming along in ways that are good for Wall Street but not for our streets, and by passing laws and appointing judiciaries intended to support tax cuts for the wealthy, deregulation of corporations, and elimination of environmental protections.

In doing this, they hope to prevent us from demanding government that really is “of, by, and for the people,” government that works for the good of all by providing upward mobility through progressive taxes, protection of pro-labor laws, and better health and economic possibilities for everyone.

All this, perhaps, a modern Amos might say to us today.

“They’re hoping to spring this on Biden, the way he brought Bill Clinton accusers in 2016.”

A 2017 email from a top official with a Chinese energy firm, provided by a whistleblower to U.S. Senate investigators, demonstrates the terms of an agreement included officials with the firm giving a $5 million non-secured, forgivable loan to the Biden “family.”

The email, sent to SinoHawk Holdings CEO Tony Bobulinski, shows how a top official with CEFC Energy — a now bankrupt and defunct energy company based in China — offered to wire $10 million into an account to begin operations, $5 million worth of which would be a non-secured forgivable loan to the “BD Family,” which means the Biden family."

According to the Danish newspaper @berlingske three scientific journals have refused to publish the results of the first major scientific investigation the effect of use of masks during the Covid-19 pandemic. Apparently because the results might not show what is politically correct

Henrik Ullum
@henrik_ullum

As one of the co-authors I can inform you that we are very unhappy about the delay of our study. We never anticipated this delay. The peer review process is important to secure correct scientific conclusions for this sensitive research question.

Alex Berenson
@AlexBerenson

To be clear: The Danish study is the most important research on masks. If it shows they don’t work, we need to know, so we can try other solutions. If it shows they’re harmful, we need to know, SO WE DON’T TELL PEOPLE TO WEAR THEM.

POLITICS CANNOT HOLD HEALTH HOSTAGE. PUBLISH.

Starting to look like "unpopular" results may be holding this highly touted study up. It used the "gold standard" but may conflict with Bidens apparent push for a US national mask mandate.

Even if not supported by science.

Biden Ready for Attacks on His Family at Debate
7:00 pm

Joe Biden is ready for Donald Trump to unleash a torrent of attacks on Biden’s family Thursday night at the final presidential debate, CNBC reports.

Said deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield: “We expect that Trump will attack Vice President Biden and his family. Every time he does that, all he’s doing is reinforcing what we have said all along: He is acknowledging that he has no case for a second term.”

At least 47.1 million have voted nationwide,
and there are still 12 days until Election Day

The high turnout in 2018 resulted in the Democratic got 41 seats in The House of Representatives.

If the President reads this before the debate, he will go crazy and attack the Biden family and demand: Lock Them Up!

This story, originally published at 2:21 p.m., has been updated with Nielsen’s final ratings count.

Nearly 700,000 more viewers on Thursday watched former vice president Joe Biden’s town hall live on television than those who watched President Trump’s, according to data released Friday afternoon by measurement company Nielsen.

Biden’s town hall on ABC averaged 14.1 million viewers, compared to about 13.5 million for Trump’s NBC town hall. The higher figure for Biden’s event is particularly surprising given that he appeared just on one network, compared to Trump, whose town hall was simulcast on MSNBC and CNBC.

According to ABC, “The Vice President and the People” is the network’s most-watched prime-time telecast since the Oscars in February.

These figures from Nielsen includes streaming services such as Roku or Apple TV viewed on television sets. While both town halls began at 8 p.m., Trump’s NBC event lasted one hour, whereas Biden’s went on for an additional 30 minutes, spilling into the 9 o’clock hour.

A real name fact witness.

"Bobulinski later addressed reporters at the J.W. Marriott in Nashville, Tennessee, two hours prior to the presidential debate, confirming a story first broken by Breitbart News on Wednesday — namely, that he had personally witnessed former Vice President Joe Biden discussing business interests with Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, and his brother, James Biden."

The President is going to put Biden in jail!

Tony Bobulinski, the CEO of Sinohawk Holdings, which was part of a partnership between the Chinese firm CEFC China Energy and the Biden family, went public with a statement about Hunter Biden’s corruption on Thursday morning. He claimed that then-Vice President Joe Biden had indeed coordinated with his son Hunter in notorious foreign business deals, contrary to Biden’s claims. On Thursday afternoon, Bobulinski announced he would turn over electronic devices and records of business dealings to the FBI.

“Tony Bobulinski will announce that he will turn his electronic devices and records of business dealings with Hunter and Jim Biden over to the FBI,” Fox News Chief White House Correspondent John Roberts announced on Twitter.

In a bombshell statement to The New York Post, Bobulinski confirmed that Joe Biden really is “the Big Guy” mentioned in numerous emails detailing Biden corruption.

Thanks to the painstaking work of Peter Schweizer (and the Democrats’ impeachment push), Hunter Biden’s notorious business deals with companies like the notoriously corrupt Ukrainian gas firm Burisma have become public knowledge. Yet Hunter Biden also made lucrative deals in other countries as well, most notably China.

Biden made no fatal errors – although his comments about “I would transition from the oil industry, yes” will soon appear in Trump ads in Pennsylvania.

I somewhat disagree. It may have put the final nail in the coffin on Biden's chances in Pennsylvania and if Biden loses Pennsylvania, North Carolina and Florida become must wins. For sure any hope of turning Texas blue went out the window.

If Biden does win, he'll cross the finish line out of gas and leaking oil.
