To put this in perspective, during this same general time period there has been 84,916 US deaths from the flu and pneumonia. The numbers suggest that the average American is only about 2.3 times more likely to die from Covid than they are from the flu or pneumonia. An interesting statistic considering we have vaccines to supposedly protect against the flu and pneumonia.
But a quick look at this suggest that we are still barely over 400 deaths with Americans under the age of 25, under 2000 for Americans under the age of 35, and just over 6000 for those under the age of 45. We certainly would not be (under any normal medical circumstances) locking down every American under the age of 45, not allowing them to work, or even making them wear masks day in and day out (which creates it's own medical issues), in order to mitigate a virus that takes 6000 lives over the course of several months.
As has been pointed out however is that when you have a lock down or mask mandate that does not appear to stop the spread, the knee jerk reaction is to intensify the efforts with more stringent conditions. If the amount of fatalities or new cases begin to drop, then the lock downs and mandates are said to be the reason and the justification to continue them. So no matter what happens, those who favor lock downs and other mandates will always see themselves as correct and justified. In their minds it is literally impossible for them to be wrong.

President Trump’s campaign is calling into question public opinion surveys that show Democratic nominee Joe Biden with a big lead heading into the final weeks before Election Day, accusing pollsters of hiding their methodologies in an effort to make it seem like the president is headed for a big defeat.
Speaking on a conference call with reporters, Trump campaign senior adviser Corey Lewandowski said a campaign analysis found that nearly two-thirds of polls released in recent weeks did not provide partisan make-up or crosstabs giving insight into how the polls were conducted.
“This is how some pollsters are skewing the results,” Lewandowski said. “They don’t want their polls to face scrutiny, so they won’t give us the crosstabs or the partisan makeup of the polls, thereby skewing the results.”
Lewandowski said the Trump campaign’s internal polls show a far different race than the one reflected in public polls.
