Covid Update

Maybe it's time we consider that actual people dying is more important than what rhetoric is thrown around by politicians?
  • Illinois - 11,378 new cases & 178 reported deaths
  • Sweden - 4747 new cases & 2 reported deaths
While some want to continue to argue (for whatever reasons) that Sweden "got it wrong" while the Democratic Governors in the United States have "gotten it right", perhaps it would be better to look at the facts as they show up in black and white.

Meanwhile, some things stay the same even as they change
  • States with Democratic Governors 834 deaths per million
  • States with Republican Governors 769 deaths per million

Only a matter of time for New York and Governor Emmy

The facts that show up in black and white are that earlier there were three times as many deaths per million in states with Democratic governors as opposed with states with Republican governors.

Then, later, it was only two times as many.

Then, later, it was only a difference of a few hundred.

Now, as we see above, it is a difference of only 70. Only seventy!

And if Ch will keep posting the daily deaths per hundred we will probably see that gap narrow even more.

Why did Ch in cowardly fashion stop posting the daily rates?

Isn't it because he fears that ultimately the rate in states with Republican governors will surpass the rate in Dem governed states?

Be brave and truthful, Ch, and start posting those rates again.

Unless you are afraid to.

Honest, decent, truthful Rev. said...

One more point: The reason the rates were early on so high in states with Dem governors was because those states have larger cities with large airports impacted by a greater number of international travelers bringing the virus into our country, while the Repub governed states are more rural with no such large influx of foreign travelers.

And yet the rates for the Republican states, especially those that have resisted mask wearing, lock downs, and social distancing, have now been steadily increasing, as we were reminded daily until Ch stopped posting the daily figures.

I agree, pedo, it’s a virus eventually it should equal regardless. The issue is whom is harming their economies more

UPDATED with latest: The United States on Wednesday reported the biggest one-day jump in Covid-19 related deaths since the height of the spring surge. According to Johns Hopkins University, 2,146 new American deaths due to the virus were reported on Wednesday. That works out to a grisly one death every 40 seconds.

Covid deaths have been on the rise for about a month, swinging up and down but climbing ever higher with each upswing. The number of deaths reported Tuesday was a relatively low 889. Wednesday’s tally was over twice that.

To compare one state vs Sweden is a manipulation of the facts to make the lame duck President is competent.

The United States witnessed its deadliest day since early May on Tuesday, recording nearly 2,100 covid-19 deaths, with daily highs set in nine states.

Nearly 88,000 people were in hospitals with the virus at the last count — another all-time high — setting up a historically bleak and dangerous Thanksgiving holiday.

The U.S. outbreak just keeps accelerating, in contrast to Europe and Southeast Asia, where the World Health Organization announced that new cases have finally begun to slow.

On Tuesday, leaders in France and Britain tentatively announced plans to ease lockdown restrictions in advance of the Christmas season, a move that worries many scientists who warn reopening too quickly could backfire.

Again.

With exploding infections rates and relatively lax restrictions, Arizona is luring in out-of-state youth sports teams who can’t play in their home towns.

One America News was suspended from YouTube, which accused the right-wing cable channel of spreading misinformation about a “guaranteed cure” for covid-19.

The Florida grocery chain Publix is being sued by the family of a 70-year-old worker, who claim he died of covid-19 after being denied permission to wear a mask at work.

Trump Says He’ll Leave If Electoral College Seats Biden
9:26 pm
“President Trump said Thursday that he will leave the White House if the Electoral College formalizes President-Elect Joe Biden’s victory — even as he insisted such a decision would be a ‘mistake’ — as he spent his Thanksgiving renewing baseless claims that ‘massive fraud’ and crooked officials in battleground states caused his election defeat,” the AP reports.

“The fact that a sitting American president even had to address whether or not he would leave office after losing reelection underscores the extent to which Trump has smashed one convention after another over the last three weeks.”

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The lame duck President could have told the public about the covid-19 and had worked with the scientists and medical expert and issued federal guidelines on masking, social distancing after consulting with the state government and issuing guidelines for the states to implement guidelines related to the conditions in each state.

I'm completely recovered from the transplant and I'm fully functional, but unlike you, I am not a drunkard with a doubt digit IQ

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

I suspect that he will issue a wave of pardons.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

The lame duck President may have done permanent damage.

1. Convince your voters that the election has been stolen from them.

Mission accomplished. Somewhere between a majority and a large majority of Republicans believe Trump was robbed of a second term. How could they not, given that the president has been saying literally for years that he could only lose if the contest was rigged?

2. Make sure local and state officials are loyal.

A thought exercise: Replay the events of the past week with a different cast.

Americans have long had the luxury of taking the machinery of democracy for granted—but suddenly we know all too well that the votes are counted and certified by specific individuals, with names and phone numbers and, in some cases, strong political loyalties. Imagine the state canvassing board in Michigan if both Republican members had been committed Trumpists. Imagine, next time, a Georgia secretary of state and governor who owe their political careers to a Donald Trump actively seeking the 2024 GOP nomination, or to a candidate with the full-throated support of his followers. Imagine the same officials in Arizona or Wisconsin, where Biden won by far slimmer margins. The capacity to gum up the machinery of counting and validating votes, maybe even nudge it the other direction, would increase dramatically. If nothing else, Republicans—who control a majority of statehouses in the U.S.—now know precisely where to exert political muscle to ensure that loyalists hold those jobs.

Georgia’s secretary of state and governor are already in the crosshairs; Trump himself has threatened to support primary challengers against Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski and Ohio Governor Mike Dewine for such heresies. It will come as no surprise if the GOP legislative leaders in Pennsylvania and Michigan are targets of primary campaigns in 2022.

If the conviction of GOP voters that the 2020 election was stolen remains firm, these “heretics” could find themselves out of office come 2024—and that election machinery could be in the hands of far more pliable public officials.

CH bragged about this earlier on

The Scotus Shelby decision gutted the civil rights act. Gerrymander and voter suppression is running wild again.

The people have spoken and they fired him. But he has polluted the swamp. Unless Biden can get us back to normal,.

Coldheartedtruth Teller said...

He finally got over it!

Taking questions from reporters for the first time since Election Day, Mr. Trump also threw himself into the battle for Senate control, saying he would soon travel to Georgia to support Republican candidates in two runoff elections scheduled there on Jan. 5.

When asked whether he would leave office in January after the Electoral College cast its votes for Mr. Biden on Dec. 14 as expected, Mr. Trump replied: “Certainly I will. Certainly I will.”

Speaking in the Diplomatic Room of the White House after a Thanksgiving video conference with members of the American military, the president insisted that “shocking” new evidence about voting problems would surface before Inauguration Day. “It’s going to be a very hard thing to concede,” he said, “because we know that there was massive fraud.”

GRIFFIN, Ga. — Sen. David Perdue was encouraging a crowd at a gun club south of Atlanta to support him and fellow Republican Kelly Loeffler in their bids for Georgia's Senate seats, which he called the only thing standing between America and "a radical socialist agenda."
But five minutes into the senator's speech, a man interrupted.
“What are you doing to help Donald Trump and this fraud case?” the man screamed, as one woman said “Amen” and the crowd applauded. “What are you doing to stop what’s been going on here and this election fraud?”
The Republican candidates in Georgia’s dual Senate runoff campaign are navigating a highly unusual political labyrinth — caught in the middle of an intraparty war that has erupted since President Trump narrowly lost the state to President-elect Joe Biden and has turned his fire on the Republican leadership there.

More of the above

The infighting now threatens to turn off the very Republican voters Perdue and Loeffler need to stave off challenges from their Democratic rivals, Jon Ossoff and the Rev. Raphael Warnock.
Trump and his allies have repeatedly, and falsely, accused Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger and Gov. Brian Kemp, both Republicans, of presiding over a fraudulent election. Trump has pushed the baseless claim that the Dominion Voting Systems machines used in Georgia were rigged as part of a global conspiracy, and Perdue and Loeffler have called for Raffensperger’s resignation.
But therein lies the conundrum: Perdue and Loeffler are traveling the state pleading with Republican voters to turn out on Jan. 5 — effectively asking Trump supporters to put their faith in the same voting system their president claims was manipulated to engineer his defeat.

Keep up the fighting trump.....drive away the people that you need.....Like Alfred E Neuman.....what me worry?????? BWAAAAAAPAAAAAA!!!!

WASHINGTON — When David Priess was a CIA officer, he traveled to Houston, he recalls, to brief former President George H.W. Bush on classified developments in the Middle East.

It was part of a long tradition of former presidents being consulted about, and granted access to, some of the nation's secrets.

Priess and other former intelligence officials say Joe Biden would be wise not to let that tradition continue in the case of Donald Trump.

They argue soon-to-be-former President Trump already poses a danger because of the secrets he currently possesses, and they say it would be foolish to trust him with more sensitive information. With Trump's real estate empire under financial pressure and his brand suffering, they worry he will see American secrets as a profit center.

"This is not something that one could have ever imagined with other presidents, but it's easy to imagine with this one," said Jack Goldsmith, who worked as a senior Justice Department official in the George W. Bush administration.

"He's shown as president that he doesn't take secret-keeping terribly seriously," Goldsmith said in an interview. "He has a known tendency to disrespect rules related to national security. And he has a known tendency to like to sell things that are valuable to him."

Goldsmith and other experts noted that Trump has a history of carelessly revealing classified information. He told the Russian foreign minister and ambassador in 2017 about extremely sensitive terrorism threat information the U.S. had received from an ally. Last year he tweeted what experts said was a secret satellite photo of an Iranian nuclear installation.

The United States allied with Syrian Kurds against Turkey’s wishes
The most recent dispute between Turkey and its NATO allies centers on Ankara’s opposition to the Kurdish groups that became key partners of the United States and its allies in the fight against the Islamic State militant group in Syria and Iraq.
The Kurds are a primarily Muslim ethnic group spread throughout Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran, though they have long pushed for their own independent state. About 30 million Kurds live in the region, half of them in Turkey, where they have waged a decades-long campaign for greater autonomy. Groups such as the Kurdistan Workers’ Party, or PKK, have resorted to armed conflict and terrorism in that campaign.
AD

In 2015, the United States turned to Syrian Kurds for assistance in the fight against the Islamic State, urging forces of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units, or YPG, to partner with Arab groups under the banner of the newly created Syrian Democratic Forces, or SDF. The group was armed by the United States and its allies and soon grew to control significant swaths of land along Syria’s border with Turkey.

and the alky is demonstrably wrong yet again -

Trump didn’t sell out his supporters. In fact, his presidency saw something extraordinary, even if it was all but invisible from the country’s globalized cities: the first egalitarian boom since well back into the twentieth century. In 2019, the last non-Covid year, he presided over an average 3.7 percent unemployment rate and 4.7 percent wage growth among the lowest quartile of earners. All income brackets increased their take. That had happened in the last three Obama years, too. The difference is that in the Obama part of the boom, the income of the top decile rose by 20 percent, with tiny gains for other groups. In the Trump economy, the distribution was different. Net worth of the top 10 percent rose only marginally, while that of all other groups vaulted ahead. In 2019, the share of overall earnings going to the bottom 90 percent of earners rose for the first time in a decade.

Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) are foreign organizations that are designated by the Secretary of State in accordance with section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), as amended. FTO designations play a critical role in our fight against terrorism and are an effective means of curtailing support for terrorist activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business.

I did not remember this but it sure shows trumps true colors as we go forward!!!!

In the now-distant Republican presidential primaries of 2016, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas handily won the Iowa caucuses. This was determined by a method that has lately come under attack but at the time was considered standard: elementary math.

One of the losers in Iowa, developer and television personality Donald Trump, soon accused Cruz of electoral theft. He fired off several inflammatory tweets, including this foreshadowing of our current democracy-testing moment: “Based on the fraud committed by Senator Ted Cruz during the Iowa Caucus, either a new election should take place or Cruz results nullified.”

The episode vanished in the tsunami of political vitriol to come during the Trump presidency. Still, it reflects what those who have worked with Trump say is his modus operandi when trying to slip the humiliating epithet he has so readily applied to others.

Loser.

“The first thing he calls someone who has wronged him is a loser,” said Jack O’Donnell, who ran an Atlantic City casino for Trump in the 1980s. “That’s his main attack word. The worst thing in his world would be to be a loser. To avoid being called a loser, he will do or say anything.”
